Re-visiting that 2006 room brings back memories of watching those episodes for the first time. That's how long you've been around now, you're giving people nostalgia.
Hell dude thank you for inspiring tons of people on youtube to even wanna get up, smash in the record button on a camera, and make video game related shit on here. Been a fan since early 2007 and still watch the fuck outta everything you make man, keep it goin \m/
Thanks for sharing this James. I personally am 24 years old, I'm working a job that is sucking me dry, and I can only afford to pay my bills and my free time is spent gaming. It's comforting to know that even at 26 it was possible to turn your situation around and find your calling. Now I just hope I can find mine!
Not too many people really would take the time to do a thank you episode to their fans but James does it and done well. Thank you James for countless laughs and for keeping me entertained on those insomniatic nights. Not a word but whatever.
Mike is such a motherfucking boss for lending/giving james his stuff to put in the episodes. He's done SOO much for James and in return so has james. beautiful bromance if there ever was one
Nerd, you came from such humble beginnings. That's the mark of any true star, not a celebrity (those vampiric bloodsucking parasites) a true star. You've also been true to yourself over the years, haven't changed your principles or ideology, you've always been about the fans. Most importantly though, you have an incredible wife for sticking with you, even through the hard times. You deserve it all though Nerd, I will probably continue to be reduced to hysterical tears from laughing at your content, and I hope (should you choose to) for years to come, you will carry on entertaining us all.
Hearing you talk about how it was for you before you hit it big describes exactly where I'm at in my life right now. I'm working to build my channel but i'm still at that stage with the job and stuff, making videos in my free time. You have given myself and many other the inspiration to do what we really want to in our lives, just have to remain passionate about what we do. Thank you James.
Wow. This is pretty powerful. It kinda gives a new feeling to the older Nerd episodes, knowing that you were balancing a job and everything on top of it, and still knowing you had the time and patience to make those episodes. Now I'm not saying I'll stop watching the old episodes, but it just gives them a new weight. Also, I just want to thank you, because you've changed my life in a way. You've introduced me to the joys of video games, new and old. I bought a Sega Genesis off of eBay a week ago. I'll be getting a 3DS on Christmas. I'm starting to look into video games and enjoy/appreciate them more than I used to. Your videos have also had me laughing when times were tough. Thank you.
***** God you guys, acdeportivo2 is right.. it hasn't made life better, but it sure has been interesting to watch. Sad you gang up on someone being honest. Fun to watch? Yes! Make life better? fuck no.

I remember every day after school during grade 7, I'd go to my friends house and we'd watch your new episode before doing any homework. If there wasn't a new episode, then we'd just watch an old one again. I haven't realized how much the room has progressed but I did realize how much better the videos got. And to be honest, if you continued making videos till this day in standard definition. It wouldn't have mattered to me. You still would have 1.4 million subs and a huge fan base. Keep it up James. You're one UA-camr I'm proud to always be subscribed too and will always support. You were the reason I started my gaming channel, and the reason I don't give up when I feel like my channel is going no where. Thanks a lot James, thanks a lot. Hope the wife and kid are well. :)
Huh, I had no idea that James had so many issues going on at that time. And yet he still managed to make these episodes on a regular basis AND kept getting better. THAT'S being dedicated to something you love. Too bad so many jobs drain you to the point where your free time at home is mostly spent just recharging for more drudgework at an unfulfilling workplace. Pursuing your hobbies or interests? Not enough time or you lack the needed energy.
Depending on someones current life situation for some people looking into the past will depict memories of an easier time in their lives or something/someone that has gone and they miss that feeling. I miss lots especially having more enjoyment out.of video games at the age of 6 than I do now at 21. I believe what you are feeling is fairly common.
xWHEETO123x Yeah true, the older you get, the more responsibilities you're supposed to have. Though I still enjoy video games, they aren't as memorable as in the past. The 'magic' has gone.
I have to say,as far as nerd fans go,I'm pretty new!! I just started watching the nerd videos on UA-cam about 6 months ago. But I've come to appreciate your dedication and hard work as well as your devotion to what you love and your fans very quickly!! Your a talented and funny dude. You've had me laughing my ass off many nights now. You've made start to appreciate all those by gone games, systems and years I spent playing them alot more than I ever used to!! Thanks for what u do man!! I truly appreciate it and wish you happiness and success in the future!!
No James! Thank you for the entertainment! Youre my favorite youtuber on here as of yet, the nostalgia you bring to me is immense, whatever you do from now up until whatever years you shall live (which i hope is an assload) that you love doing what you doing and keep pushing on! Good luck on your movie release and much love.
From one James to another. You are humble and appreciate all that you have. You deserve all the success you have, because of all the hard work you have put into AVGN and Cinemassacre. Much more success to come... AVGN MOVIE!
although my youtube career is mostly over (at least for series and other video game runthroughs) you were the one who inspired me to do what I did. I created a humble but a fairly good sized fanbase. Had loads of fun and played games I would have never tried before, and had a blast. so I wanna say thank you right back, still gotta get an autograph from you at some point.
That's the power of classic UA-cam. I feel like we've all been one big family or group of friends since 06. I never met the nerd and I never met any of you, but we all still gained from one another. For all the days that I needed an escape and a good laugh, the nerd was there. Through all the hardships, we were there for him too. That's how the internet should work. Thanks, James, for all the years of hard work and hilarious videos. Keep it up and never quit.
I remember watching my first episode of AVGN when I started TAFE (college) in 2008 on GameTrailers. The first one I saw the Atari Jaguar Part 1, having heard of the console, but never having seen what it could do. I then continued to watch, and even to this day, I believe I have watched every single episode at least 5 times. You are doing a phenomenal job, and I hope to see more episodes in the future!
I started watching you when I was a junior in high school (back in 2009-2010), and your videos always cracked me up to the point of tears, and they were an awesome distraction from the humdrum of my life. You deserve all that you've achieved with your life and your videos. You even have your own full length movie now that I believe will be better than a lot of the movies we have today! You've gotten very far, James, and you're gonna go even farther. Thank you for all of this awesome content, and I look forward to much more.
True thing, I had to fight those pesky tears back because we all know that struggle. That doesn't get born in to rich family's or things just handed to us. We go out and get it. Some times it takes our whole lives or a short time in years. Depends on how bad you want it and how you treat those around you. Good day to you sir.
Blown away with this. Well done James! And I think that it is great that you take to thank your fans. There are SO SO SO many UA-camrs that don't say thank you enough! Well done mate.
The pleasure is ours, James. His story just proves that, no matter how dire a situation may get, there's almost always an outlet and a way to get back on your feet.
This was my second youtube channel I subscribed to, when I first got internet back in 2008, albeit it was a different account. It was AVGN that got me interested in nintendo, and understanding nintendo for all its glory, as well as look at other game systems. To this day, i've been doing my bet to become an avid game nerd...
Truly happy for you & your family James , don't think anyone can imagine how hard must be to balance between work, family, your passion for making videos. You put a lot of effort & enjoy especially the videos you're explaining about editing commentary & your personal shows AVGN Board James. Hope you know how much we respect all this hard work thank you so much!
Love you James we will always support you. Your talent should not be wasted. Your videos inspired me to collect again, and now my life is so much richer. I get to go to the Portland Retro Gaming Expo with a press pass, and I owe it all to you. Hope you will be there, that would be so crazy I would lose my head.
Cool insight. It's kind of weird to see how small the game collection was back then relative to how it is now. I always just assumed it was always massive.
Thumbs up; I'm an engineering student that wanted to do LPs for fun, but I can't even edit the videos any more because I'm too tired / demotivated to work on them because of my work/study responsibilities. Your resolve is inspirational; I think we're all glad that you're doing so well now.
I've watched for many years now, never typed a comment or said thank you.......so a sincere THANK YOU James! Keep up the great, creative work and do it as long as it makes you money and makes you happy, you've made me happy for long enough now. From a UK fan.
Actually, James inspired me to NOT do reviews, since I realized I could never do such great work as he does, but he do give me lots of joy and happiness through his and Mike´s amazing videos, which I love to watch. I have my own calling and career in other area, but I do love Jame´s work.
But on the other hand, James was the one who inspired me to make the few videos I have on my channel now. He was like, the first thing I ran into when I first found youtube and although my content is completely different, it was watching him that made me want to join youtube and do my own stuff.
I'm just one of these guys that honestly arrived late, like really late to the party. The first time I watched you was your episode of Ghosts and Goblins in 2012. I didn't help any way back then, but I'm glad I support you now, and I'm glad I can count on you to keep me happy with these videos! I also can't wait to watch the movie, I hope it gets shipped to my country and we can watch it in the cinema as well. Thanks for everything James and Mike, and everyone else (supporters/viewers/producers/actors/etc) who made the AVGN happen until this far. Thank you all.
It's a privilege to have you James entertaining us whenever you had the time to do it. Your dedication is rewarding to us for each subscriber you get. Although I started noticing your stuff October/November 2008 (the Dracula, Frankenstein, and CDi reviews), thanks for being there earlier!
Personally id like to think that the angry video game nerd was the cornerstone of youtubing video games especially video game reviews the people i watch on youtube had been inspired by you. All in all we should thank you more for helping to make the internet a much more fun, hilarious and overall entertaining experience
This week i was having a big cold... I was sooo! SOOOOOOOOOO! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! sick... so i thought... Being happy may make me healthy again... I watched your videos again... I even got AVGN adventures and now i'm getting better... Thank you James! Thank you AVGN!!! My life wouldn't be full without you guys...
It's kinda hard for me to grasp the idea that internet people have very real and occupationally consuming lives that we seem to ignore because of our demand for production and entertainment which I feel I take for granted. I had no idea James even had a girlfriend ( I mean, c'mon. he plays a nerdy online ego, what could I have assumed? ) and I've been watching him since I was eight. I'm now fifteen and come to appreciate James' videos much more than I used to. his contributions and devotion to his fans is outstanding, and I think he definitely sets a benchmark for achievement and entertainment value. thank you for the hard work all these years, mr.nerd. you don't go by unappreciated.
thank you from all of us that have been watching since the beginning. many things seem to have changed in your life and many have in mine over the course of the nerd's lifespan but they have always provided us with entertainment and im glad we could contribute to making your life better and that you could do the same to ours a little with your entertaining videos. all the best now and in the future
I don't think anyone else realizes it, but the day that this video was uploaded was the 10th year anniversary of the AVGN. The first episode Castlevania 2 was uploaded on April 8 2004 on screw attack and cinemassacre... HAPPY 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY NERD !!!!!!!!!!
Man i started watching your videos when i was 12 and recovering from surgery, and im still watching and enjoying them today at 19, youre the best man, thanks for all the good times and please keep making more videos, you turned me into a retro gamer and the nerd always cheers me up!!!
Thank you James, Misses Nerd and Mike. All of you did put a lot of work into this project and your still going on. Thanks to all of your guys and all the guys in the background as well.
Thank you James! You really have influenced my life! Your nerd episodes brought my creative side back out. My boyfriend and I have started building our collection. When we get to spend time together we are always playing Nintendo, or Sega or whatever else we can get our hands on. It's my favorite part of every week. We watch your videos over and over and over, and quote them constantly. We even started buying our favorite shitty games from the nerd episodes. Thank you so much, I really mean that.
Makes things make a whole lot more sense. My wife and I had a slightly smaller apartment, the same crap jobs, some of the stress, and about as many games between us. Kind of like you, we sold a lot of our stuff, tried to make things work, got married, and moved on slowly. Hyperbole aside, you've helped me remember which games I rented in the 80s and 90s that sucked, and which ones I liked enough to buy, now that my family is starting out and we're looking to rebuild out lost hobbies. Thanks, Nerd. May hundreds of E.T. cartridges spontaneously combust in your honor.
James you're my fucking hero. I've been watching you since I was 16 back in 2007. Now I'm 23 and I can't believe you've made this far. Even if today you decided to retire forever from making videos, you would still be leaving a huge legacy behind. Thanks for everything you've ever done. Hopefully one day I can meet James Jr and tell him "Your dad is a hero and a legend, be proud of him!"
Off all the people to thank, I have to thank you a million times for your work James. I didn't hear of you until 2018 until I accidentally stumbled upon the Big Rigs episode. I immediately fell in love with the videos and I kept watching more and more. During that time, I also suffered from extreme depression due to family stress and stuffs like that. Your videos made me happy and made me laugh. Thank you for doing these vids man, keep it up.
James is the fuckin man. That's real talk he just preached. When he spoke about coming straight from work and going right to doing an episode, I said "amen, bro". I make videos as a hobby too and it really can drain the life outta you. I don't make shit as great as he does, since my videos are much more random, but I understand the time it takes and the energy it demands.
I still remember the first time I saw an AVGN episode back in 2006, It was also the first time I had ever laughed so hard watching something. I was hooked from then on and of course I knew the nerd would be a success, one of my roommates at the time watched an episode I left open on UA-cam, when I got back he asked me about the AVGN, who was this guy and why didn't I show him before how funny the series was, and long story short, he was hooked from that day on too.
I remember that as well when I first discovered the AVGN (which was then known as the "Angry Nintendo Nerd" as a pilot in the first few episodes). This first run of videos was filmed in the apartment. His collection was a pack rat back then before moving in to another location. I did a lot of mess since I was young when my parents told me to clean it up and got mad when I wasn't paying attention.
Thanks to you! I'm also a freelance filmmaker and it's hard, really hard not been able to get a job or to have one but been paid a misery. I'm 27 and I have to live with my parents because I don't have any money to do it by my own with my girl. But you're and inspiration man!!, not only with the AVGN, but with all Cinemassacre stuff. I love you're movie reviews, they show how passionate you're about cinema. I want to star my own channel and make more short films by my own (I always work for someone else), and it's thanks to you that I keep on working and don't lose my passion. Thanks!!
i can't belive its been 7 years now that i watched my first AVGN Episode, it truly has changed my life. Not just because of games but more that James is an example of true passion for what you are doing.
I hope you have many more years to come, doing what you love, you'll always be one of the bigger youtube personalities in my eyes and the eyes of many. There aren't many who can do a thank you vid and sound humble and honest, but you do, keep up the good work, I'll be continuing to support where I can.
James I’ve been watching your videos for about as long as they’ve been around and I can’t tell you how much I love them and appreciate the effort you’ve put into all this. It’s great to see your success and I am happy that things have been this successful for you. Your legacy is amazing! AVGN forever!
Wow hearing your story made me cry . I know for a fact you will grow and grow in anything you do. You have no idea what your videos have inspired me to be what I want to be. Plus all the bad things that have happened in my life , just coming home and watching the nerd made all the crap disappear . I hope one day it can have a chance to meet you:) ps last halloween I dressed up like the nerd and everyone knew who I was lol:) God speed Nerd! Much love Movie Junky
Words can not describe what an important part of my life your (and NCs) videos became. I watch your show since 2006 an now i realize what a long time we've been through. Its nice to see that you're still there, just to entertain us, week by week, video by video. They're just make me laugh like back than. Even when you just sitting with mike on your couch and play some games and have this conversations. It's like good old friends which sitting next to me. Thanks for all that and whats coming in the future. Thanks James and of course Mike. Greetings from Germany!
We love you James. I've been through some horrible things in the past 4 years. But as silly as it sounds (I dont think it sounds silly at all) your videos helped me to relax every single day and night and were the only thing that made me smile and laugh. I really hope you will read this comment. Thank you James, Mike and everyone else who made this possible :)

Thanks for everything, James. Been watching your videos since 2007, and I can't get enough of them.
Thanks for everything James!
The pleasure is ours, James. His story just proves that, no matter how dire a situation may get, there's almost always an outlet and a way to get back on your feet.
Youre videos are the best on UA-cam. Thanks for all the laughs Nerd.
that moment when 2006 was 8 years ago.
Damn. Time flies.
9 years ago now.
Damian Stachelski 12 years ago now.
actually it is 11 years as of now
JeehoonOh 17 years now. I am from the future
Your Quite Welcome.
I've always enjoyed watching your Nerd Episodes when ever they come out.
Years later. This is still brings happiness to me
My friend showed me about AVGN. So far, I'm enjoying his entertainment. Thanks so much, James. :)
Been watching your videos since late 2006. Never stop it, my friend.
Thank you James, for all your videos - it's very awesome. You are the best!
Same here.
Thumbs up; I'm an engineering student that wanted to do LPs for fun, but I can't even edit the videos any more because I'm too tired / demotivated to work on them because of my work/study responsibilities. Your resolve is inspirational; I think we're all glad that you're doing so well now.
I can recall discovering the angry nerd back in 2007-08. I was in college and was always great to see a new video had gone up.
I've watched for many years now, never typed a comment or said thank you.......so a sincere THANK YOU James! Keep up the great, creative work and do it as long as it makes you money and makes you happy, you've made me happy for long enough now. From a UK fan.
Thanks to you James =)
And thank you! For making these awesome videos.
I'd love to be in that room for even 5 minutes
It's gamer heaven...
...but also hell.
what to try first..
Casey Dunbar Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, of course!
Pause
Best of luck on future episodes, James. :)
AVGN is one of the most inspirational UA-camrs out there.
Now we need a complete Nerd Room Tour 2014
You came a long way. Hard work definitely pays off in the end.
It's kinda hard for me to grasp the idea that internet people have very real
and occupationally consuming lives that we seem to ignore because
of our demand for production and entertainment which I feel I take for granted.
I had no idea James even had a girlfriend ( I mean, c'mon. he plays a nerdy online
ego, what could I have assumed? ) and I've been watching him since I was eight.
I'm now fifteen and come to appreciate James' videos much more than I used to.
his contributions and devotion to his fans is outstanding, and I think
he definitely sets a benchmark for achievement and entertainment value.
thank you for the hard work all these years, mr.nerd. you don't go by unappreciated.
*wife
and he has a daughter now too :D.
yeah, I know, but a girlfriend at the time
Two daughters. Time moves fast.
That girlfriend is a keeper!
thank you from all of us that have been watching since the beginning. many things seem to have changed in your life and many have in mine over the course of the nerd's lifespan but they have always provided us with entertainment and im glad we could contribute to making your life better and that you could do the same to ours a little with your entertaining videos. all the best now and in the future
I had no idea the collection was that small. If I paid close enough attention, I could have figured it out too.
Thank you James, Misses Nerd and Mike. All of you did put a lot of work into this project and your still going on. Thanks to all of your guys and all the guys in the background as well.
So glad you decided to do this. You are the reason why I got back into the old games. Now I am also doing youtube videos on retro games.
Thank you, James. I appreciate your vids, man. Been watching you as the Nerd since 2007.
Lets hope he makes another movie, and i dont mean another AVGN movie.
***** I want Board James Movie .. or just more eps
I remember in one video he said he wants to make a movie about the mysterious neighbor hood watch guy in a trenchcoat
Thank you James . . . Thank you!
I don't make shit as great as he does, since my videos are much more random, but I understand the time it takes and the energy it demands.
the Nerd room from 2007-2008 was the golden age of the series.
Kudos James, it's nice to see people that pursue their passions succeed...
This was 8 years ago?! Holy fuck I feel old....
Nah man, 11 years ago.
Thanks!!
Your videos are really fun to watch, sometimes i even put them on before going to bed.
i can't belive its been 7 years now that i watched my first AVGN Episode, it truly has changed my life. Not just because of games but more that James is an example of true passion for what you are doing.
Thank you too James
I hope you have many more years to come, doing what you love, you'll always be one of the bigger youtube personalities in my eyes and the eyes of many. There aren't many who can do a thank you vid and sound humble and honest, but you do, keep up the good work, I'll be continuing to support where I can.
"But that added to some of the charm of the early episodes."
Yeah, a charm that the newer episodes haven't been able to match.
You're such a GOOD person, and that is what matters after all. That's why we, all the fans, love you.
Thank you James. And you're welcome for being a fan since 2007 til now. You've come so far. Don't stop now.
Great startup and great video.
