Sometimes I get asked why I still buy physical media instead of just downloading everything. Well, this is why. Nobody can walk into a hard drive, look around, and say "what a cool collection!"
+Jackson DeStefano Actually, it's more of a mixed bag. Yes, physical copies often cost more, but they also often cost less, especially if you buy used (which I often do).
depends where you look. buying a game off the xbox live marketplace might be 60 bucks but i can get it at gamestop pre owned or something for say 40 bucks. all about looking for those deals. found a nice copy of Soul Blade on PS1 for 2 bucks when online its usually a lot more
If James ever had to move it would be a nightmare. He has so much games, game systems, movies out the ass. I hope for his sake he never has to move
He probably has enough money doing these videos to get a good moving company
Nothing compared to the Last Gamer! You should really check out his setup it's ridiculous
I’m surprised he doesn’t have a storage unit and just uses that to film in.
We need a 2019 tour, it's been almost ten years
@@YuzoKoshiroSan Yes, it does. However, I think they have some walls at Screenwave that recreates part of it.
I fully expect to see James' collection in a museum one day.
@@ThaYowza All of the games and movies have been meticulously soaked in tiger urine to ward off other animals.
And I like the smell.
"If you look here, you will see the of pre COVID society, excellently preserved by one James Rolfe, these are believed to be 'Video Games', physically stored in their cases, course, back in those days, streaming services were only starting to become commonplace in society.
This... This is my fucking dream room.
+Thebman772 Go follow your dream boy! And buy some shitty games to start with!!
Thebman772 but also balanced the atmosphere of the room with modern consoles
Thebman772 I love these old style finished basements. I'm going to build a room that looks like this, but all the stuff I like. Definitely not going to buy all the games. A couple futons and a fridge. Fluorescent lights and linoleum!!
I love how his collection is arranged. It just has that homey, humble, nostalgic feel to it. I would love to see an update since this was over 10 years ago.
It's a set now, and I'm almost certain he won't do nothing like this again.
@@TritnewNG Nope. It‘s definitely still in his house. I think he moved houses in 2015/2016 or he just changed where each room is, since he also has a video store room.
I love casual James. He's the best and most frank guy ever.
"...Yeah, 'cause they don't have any end labels... fuckin' bastards!"
I'm glad that part was straight from his honest opinions. :)
lol I remember James sweating like fuck in his original AVGN videos... that must be why
I love how organized it is, he was able to pick out the Jurassic park games in seconds
Is hope this room is insured.
@@Her_Imperious_Condescension Is hope jamz insured hiz gayme librery
EDIT: Can You even insure a collection like that?
@@115spt2 ya for most people itd probably be included in their home owners insurance but with James he might have a different policy since its a very high value collection and its for his business. I mean not only all those games and systems but he's got games like Nintendo world championship that are worth tens of thousands of dollars each so the entire collection must be worth a pretty penny. And since it's documented pretty well through videos like this you can pretty easily
Funny but true story: I grew up in the early 90's (born late 80's) and had the SNES.. but to play Sega MS/Megadrive (Europe...) I went to... my Granny's house! :D Seriously! She had them both! Even played Sonic and stuff but as we grew older she only played puzzle games like Mahjongg, which btw she STILL does (being 85) but now on a PS One. :D
My grandma was the same way. She had every Disney game and puzzle game for SNES
I am jealous of his collection
James you have to type RUN when the game loaded after "LOAD"*",8,1:
So funny when James repeats what was said last by the other person when he's excited lol.
"If this room was full of DVDs, it would all be DVDs, I guess" James Rolfe
Everytime I see that damn Commador 64 load screen it reminds me of the GTA Vice City opening
Cliff Reeser For one its Commordore 64, like the band the Commodores. How old are you?
Cliff Reeser That’s literally what they were referring to in the intro lmao
Please oh please do a 2018/2019 update of this video
Every video game kid's dream come true. I'm coming over to play!
This place is like a legit library... but for games instead of books.
The James Rolfe Classical Gaming Library
This would be the perfect time to do all the Jurrasic Park games!
Buc Whovian I think he did a bug chunk of those already and probably is planing so release with the movie
I bought all these movies and music to share with people but nobody ever comes over …
that wood paneling REALLY sets the mood for some retro gaming.. he really knows how to take you to the past
At first I thought the nerd room as a game room, then as a library of games , but now I think of it as a archive room. It's amazing seeing all the things that is kept in that room.
not only does he have a lot of this cool stuff, he's knowledgeable about it, the sign of a true collector.
Of all those games that he doesn't have a lot to say of, he could do some basic "Let's play" episodes that would just show them without any further need for AVGN or such.
Don't know about you, but I would be delighted to see those not-so-popular old games being played just for some shits and giggles.
Impressive collection.
A lot of people have said James isn't that into gaming but he clearly knows his stuff
They also think he doesn’t play video games. He maybe doesn’t have as much knowledge as Mike NOW has, but he was always more into the filming aspect. And he has beaten some very hard games. People who claim that only Mike is playing the games for the AVGN episodes are talking nonsense.
@@CedricsSpecialLP Yeah, I think James actually does some of the playing himself too. James and Mike together have some great knowledge and skill between the two of them
Love these vids where they just hang out and go through random shit James has..
I always come back to this video and I idk why. Maybe because it’s pure nostalgia.
Please, James or Mike or James, please make another one of these videos. People love these videos! You don't even have to prepare, just talk to us like you're talking to your buddy
I would pay a ticket just to visit this room. It is a piece of history.
RollingRockClock
IM DRINKIN ROLLING ROCK... ON A ROLL AND ROCKER! (While checking my rolling rock clock)
The same thing happened to me with the Nintendo 64. We just called it Nintendo, so when I heard about the Super Nintendo I was so hyped.
James has to be one of the most passionate game collector I have ever seen. He seems to get quite a bit of joy just from maintaining the history of videogaming.
The new videos surely have higher video quality, but i love the ones you guys shot with the older camera. They feel like an episode from an 80s documentary series... they take us back to the past ;)
Mikes like a manager. He knows what project and items are worth pushing forth.
Its about time we got an update
This room is like actually priceless, I can't imagine having a collection like this. I'd be proud.
The blunt rotations would be MIND-BOGGLING in here.
Its literally my dream to be in that room getting a tour by James himself.
I've seen this video several times, but I just like watching it. I love seeing big collections, and I also like hearing people talk about nostalgia.
The Simpsons arcade game actually got an IBM PC release, in addition to the Commodore 64. That version was actually pretty faithful to the arcade, and by far the best option when it came to playing it at home for many years too, save for those who may have had the actual arcade machine/PCB back in the day.
From 2017, I love you and your work JAMES!
Grew up on the Commodore 64 with cassettes and floppy discs. It was such a chore loading the games. Great video!
When I die I want to spend eternity in the Nerd Room
I love these videos. They look like the beginning of some found-footage movie, like it's going to morph into The Blair With Project later on. They really captured the atmosphere of that genre.
Big Trouble in Little China the Game on Cassette on Commodore 64. :)
The fact that it's the only game made for that wonderful movie saddens me.
Yup ..theirs a review by spoony of the game ..its one of his best videos every geek should watch it ..
James Frain Me too. But it's sad that they are going to remake it with Dwayne Johnson.
This was SIX years ago! Over half a decade!
The nerd looks so young it's crazy to think that he's been doing this for over 10 years
Wow James collection is amazing. Every type of content James and Mike produce is great I love it all!
Do a new room/basement tour for 2019!
Your collection to this day is priceless
Upload more of these, Mike. I love these.
these are my favorite cinemassacre videos
What a truely amazing collection. I'm so jealous
Man moving all that must suck.
Awesome tour video
I miss that room
I would so like to sit back and read all his nintendo power magazines.
What a huge collection you guy. I've been collecting games for the NES, PS2 and PS3 for many years. Now I'm collecting cartoons on 8mm and Super 8 from Castle Films, Disney, AAP and more.
Passion is key. Never lose it.
that room setup is just Genious
I love the vids where we just look at your stuff.
I would loved to have hang out in James' old nerd room
Yeah, Myst was pretty popular.
Fun fact: Until The Sims came along, Myst was the best selling PC game.
And to think the mainstream game industry pretty much considers adventure games a dead/niche genre.
Evidently it wasn't, back then! I wonder what changed...
Oh right. The mainstream game industry happened. =_=
Indie gaming for life, or something.
Believe it or not, there's a port of MYST for the DS. Its apparently terrible.
Awesome room. I would stay there for a long time
"They don't have any end labels, fucking bastards" haha, James always on about that one.
Back in the glory days! :D
Everyone has a pain in the ass friend like Mike
The reason Simpsons arcade was never ported to home consoles back then is because Activision had exclusive rights to develop Simpsons games for home consoles, not Konami.
Seeing this footage these days makes me miss the fact that Mike was a part of AVGN and other Cinemassacre productions.
James should have some sort of contest where the winner gets to hang out with him, Mike, Bootsy, and the rest of the Cinemassacre crew for a day and review some shitty video games with them for an episode of AVGN, all while downing bottles of Rolling Rock and Yeungling.
MrGamerman001 You never know. They might just like you enough to make you a regular on set. Then you could become a fan favorite to rival even the great Bad Luck Bootsy.
Cinestar Productions
Is Rolling Rock Canadian or USA? I've never come across it before (I'm in the UK)
this has been online before- just not officially. the crazy castle bloopers were also posted unofficially, but are now gone. so can those get posted officially soon because those are some of the best bloopers I've ever seen.
Imagine if people got a list of every single game and console that James has and saw how much it’s worth, cos wow that would definitely be over a million dollars. Easily.
Big trouble in little China always was/is my favorite movie! I wanna see this gameplay!
On the C64, after the initial LOAD "*" ,8,1 It will say "Loading" for a while, then when it comes back with "READY" type RUN and hit enter. C64 was how I initially learned my craft.
considering how huge his collection got, he's set the day he retires from filming, this man's never gonna be bored.
You have to play Myst James!!!
its amazing how many games that are on those shelves
it must have took them like awhile to build that entire collection
That is a genuine gaming museum in the works there.
I like his basement better as the movie room 🎥
Cinemassacre Did you know that in Poland radio stations used to transmit Commodore games? So you can save them on your own casette and then play on your C64... It was very popular system here.
chers!
you have such a cool lil basement, looks so cozy :)
Should open a restaurant with all this stuff on display, fans from all over would be coming to AVGN Food n Games. :)
Damn dude, you're freaking organized!
Epic collection James!
sega master system and neo geo were especially popular here in brazil.
I want him to a video talking about those mini coleco tabletop arcade games
Such a great video. So cool to see all the unmade videos/ideas here before they came to fruition
His house in Haverton.... I wish like hell I had the money to buy this place.
I have been a fan since 2006 we in Iceland me and my friends say greetings and look forward to James and Mike Mondays, Board James, Boosty beat and of course the Avgn videos we wish you great success
Anyone else wish they had a room like this dedicated solely for gaming?
"If this room was full of DVDs it would all be DVDs."
- James Rolfe, 2009
Yeah, ad libbing is f%$king hard, but even then, they aren't embarassed by it. You get like a ton of such priceless quotes from non scripted cinemassacre videos.
He wasn't wrong! 😛
Every 60 seconds in Africa, a minute passed
James Rolfe's own "Press the jump button to jump" moment.
@@ShiroiLuke I think we know by now James isn't the best at speaking impromptu lol, we still love him though :P
