Bloodshot should have blown the cartridge version out of the water given how much more horse power the Mega CD was packing. The 12Mhz M68000 was completely under used.
Absolutely. The Sega CD could have taken the sprite manipulation role off the main Mega Drive CPU at the very least for improved performance. It's basically the same engine behind the cartridge release, which means the Mega Drive is doing everything itself besides playing the soundtrack.
Awesome video bro. You are crushing it with the great content. You are one of my favorite channels on youtube. I read in a comment below you are working on a shmup cd video. Looking forward to that
I would like to add one thing about the Sega CD that no one has mentioned It was tough and would take a beating none could withstand. Case in point..... I was younger and played the hell out of the system every chance I could. My games were limited but I played them several times over to a point I could master them all. One night I spilled my coke and in turn dropped my food on it... I shut it off immediately and unplugged it but i KNEW IT WAS A GONER FOR SURE. Anyway, being young and doing dumb things I had to try something. I took the add-on and washed it off in the sink. I didn't completely drown it, but it was waterlogged.... definitely. I was like completely bummed out and figured if maybe I could get it dried out= just maybe I could save it. So I got like 5 big towels and wrapped it up in them and tied it up in string so it wouldn't hurt it too bad bouncing around. Yes, I did... I put it in the dryer for while. Now, any other system or peripheral would have long caved in.... and you won't believe this. It came out dry and worked. I kid you not. I realize that it should never have worked ever again, but it did. For a little while at least. That's going to extremes but it really happened.
It's honestly disgusting that Konami never re-released Snatcher in English or made it accessible in some form like an extra on a Metal Gear Solid disc. So sad.
I think Konami may fear the modern climate of easy litigation for Snatcher. It borrows heavily from other media. They could see it as a possible lawsuit.
I actually heard that there was a saturn version of policenauts { the sequel } that was in english but never released. True or not, there are however- fan translations.
@MultiTarded wtf are you talking about? There's more nudity in today's games than ever before. Lol I hate SJWs too but let's not pretend that's the reason Snatcher wasn't localized. It's because it's straight up plagiarism. They never localized it because douchebag Kojima lifted everything in it from American movies. Just download the translation and play it on your PC like everyone else. Imo the game is highly overrated.
I forgot all about Night Striker. I loved that in the arcade! Seems like Galaxy Force 2 would have been perfect with the extra sprite scalers. Or would that just have been too intense for the Sega CD?
As much as I wanted a home version of Final Fight.. The mega CD version is good.. But it’s slow AF and it has this programming error of the last frame transistioning into the walk..
Im in the proces of playing 'space adventure' on sega cd lately. A game which has been unknown to me untill recently. Playing it using emulator on my psvita. Used to own a sega cd but sold it after awhile.
I think part of the problem with Night Striker was the screen size. The bandwidth between the CD addon and the Genesis was not sufficient as I understand it, there was a lot of crosstalk and competition going on similar to getting good performance from the many chips of the Jaguar. If you look at the games for CD with good detail sprite scaling line Batman or Soul Star, they aren't full screen, there's typically a big HUD. Sonic CD's mode 7 style bonus stages ran well but had very few scaled sprites in each level, whereas basically everything in Night Striker is scaled sprites save for the raster effects used for the "floors" and occasional "ceilings".
You just keep nailing it SLX! Much appreciate all the content! As for the M/S: CD games themselves, always loved Ninja Warriors and, only downside to it was You only got 1/3 of the total image in the home port. That OST though was something else! And since you mentioned it in your notes. I agree with your recommendation of SNES Ninja Warriors. It may be my favorite game for the SNES. I love that one.
As a Genesis owner when I was a kid, reading EGM, Gamepro, Nintendo Power etc... The Sega CD never gave me the "I NEED THAT" feeling. I remember the only things that looked slightly better to me at the time for Sega CD was MK and Sonic CD but I already had all the Sonic games out for the Genesis at the time and MK... even 32X tricked me into getting it for Virtua Fighter, Virtua Racing and Star Wars...

So basically the port of Sengoku Basara on Mega CD was that of the equivalent of Final Fight on the SNES?! yeah, no thanks, loved the video by the way :)
Great vid! Yeah, I was guilty of scoffing the Mega CD version if Ninja Warriors; because I was expecting the SNES version (which was when I was aware of the series). Looking back it really was a great port a a good arcade game. I was sad about Anette Again; as the game had potential, with the visuals, music and cutscenes (also connected to a universe of my fav games at the time). The game could have been great if they fixed the game play. Again, great vid!
Night Striker looks that way for one reason, performance, largely it tries to replicate the frame rate and sense of speed the arcade title had while retaining the same amount of sprite content the arcade hardware operated with. Not saying it looks good but I've seen 2X graphics done better on Sega Genesis so the art conversion could have been improved. One novel comparison is Steel Gun Nyan on PC98 which has an even larger pixel upscale, like 80x60(4X) rather than 160x120(2X).
Gosh I miss my Sega CD. It died on me a few years ago. I still have it but been selling my games... but I was a big Night Stalker fan and remember hearing that the game was coming to Sega CD...I saw pictures... and could have sworn I saw some gameplay and really wanted it... and it never was released here... ugh.
Greetings: The Sega CD version of bloodshot was released in the States... as Battle Frenzy by Good Deal Games. You can still purchase it from their website. They have other games available for the platform like Force Strikers and Bug Blasters. They also release Citizen X. Check their page.
I noted that in the description of the episode but didn’t want to advertise it. That version isn’t officially licensed nor is it backed by the original makers of the software.
I gave up with Sega CD a few years ago. Model 1 cd failed then my CDX took a shit. Couldn't get anyone to work on them. Play some CD on Odroid now. Robo Aleste is my go to.
I’ve been there man. Of all my Sega systems over the years, the Sega CD has been the most trouble. Model 1, Model 2, CDX, they all have failed on me. Only the XEYE remained working long term.
Sengoku on the Mega CD/Sega CD is an excellent port of a Neo Geo game. There's also a port of Earnest Evans on that the Mega CD/Sega CD that has some excellent music and voice acting which is only in Japanese.
Always thought that the player character animations of Ninja Warriors look sooo ridiculous. Truly looks like the ninjas take a nice sunny springtime walk in the park instead of fiercly fighting huge numbers of baddies. Look at Ninja Gaiden, THAT'S how a ninja has to move (and be animated).
If you haven't yet, you should check out Urusei Yatsura: Dear My Friends for the Japanese Mega-CD; it's an excellent point-and-click adventure game based on the classic anime series. While, yes, knowledge of the anime and Japanese would heighten the experience it isn't totally unplayable.
Cyborg 009 is actually a fairly good game, if you are a fan of the original anime. In fact I daresay it is spot on in every way, but I can nderstand it is not for everyone, as the source material stems from the 60’s
Huh. I'd thought Annet looked interesting before but SLX's opinion on it has me wary now. Devastator looks like a lot of fun though, was that released in NA?
Imagine a World where SEGA, forgot about the Mega CD and 32X and just released the Saturn a year earlier, perfecting the tools for developers, to get the best out of the machine and releasing the CD & 32X titles on the Saturn. Snather would be fucking incredible EVEN more so!!! .............................. And the Dreamcast probably wouldn't of died so early.
I think it's a real shame that the second game you talked about isn't that good after you reviewed it because Annet actually looks quite sexy in the game compared to how she did in "El Veinto". ;3
I worked in the games industry running several indie stores back then and told my Sega rep if they wanted the Mega DD to succeed then release cartridge games on CD for £10 less. Still to this day think Sega's arrogance was it's downfall, I called out the 32x's failure to one of their senior sales guys in the UK even before it was launched simply because they were being far too greedy with their launch price and refused to stock it in our stores. I did pretty well in the games industry until I left in the early 2000's simply because the magic of the 16bit era had gone by then, left shortly after the PS2 launched.
Sega CD was way over hyped in magazines at the time and ads. It had 3 awesome games for me. Sonic CD, Dark Wizard and Shining Force CD. They werent great because of the tech of the add on though. They were just great games. None of the visuals were far beyond the genesis, especially since two of those were turn based grid like strategy games. The soundtrack was of course better sound quality but that was about it. There was full motion video but when it came to gameplay they were just great games. There were many other games that I did enjoy on the add on. I actually liked Sewer Shark at the time, Road Avenger and Time Gal. Mainly the first two of those. Still these were not worth the full price of a game back then, with super limited funds. I got Night Trap and the pack in discs with the original sega cd. So I mostly enjoyed the sega classics disc with some genesis games I didnt own. Sol Feace was fun briefly. Night Trap sucked but it was still somewhat of a novelty to see video running and being able to interact with it so I cant say I despised it. It is a bad game though. Wonder Dog was an early game that I really liked, even though gameplay wise it was nothing special. I enjoyed the level design, art style and the music was very good. Out Of This World, Heart Of The Alien compilation was great, but the first game was already on genesis. Even Wonder Dog was a port of an Amiga game. Didnt know it back then. The Sega CD version of Earthworm Jim was alot of fun, but not that much of an improvement over the genesis game. Lords Of Thunder I got used way later and really enjoyed it, but its another port of a game. It definately failed to deliver overall but I had some awesome moments with a few of the games I mentioned. Back then you also made the best out of what you had available and didnt focus on how bad a game was, unless it really stood out. I tried batman returns on Sega CD, the driving only mode and that seemed very good too and impressive use of the tech. Thats one I want to work on. 32X was a real fuck up. I enjoyed space harrier on the 32x but that was about it.
The difference between Night Striker on Sega CD and Saturn aren’t as large as you’re making it seem. That said as a person who played it on the Saturn only a month ago I’m genuinely impressed with the MCD version. The sprites are a little undefined and chunky in spots but it looks like an almost direct port.

Hey Sega Lord X, do you have more information regarding Shenmue 1 on Saturn? And Virtua Fighter 3? I would love to see a video of these games..
You keep hitting it out of the park cheers
Gosh I miss my Sega CD. It died on me a few years ago. I still have it but been selling my games... but I was a big Night Stalker fan and remember hearing that the game was coming to Sega CD...I saw pictures... and could have sworn I saw some gameplay and really wanted it... and it never was released here... ugh.
3:18 - Green Soldier: Eeeiiyaaa...Oh Never mind Fuck it!!!
Greetings:
The Sega CD version of bloodshot was released in the States... as Battle Frenzy by Good Deal Games.
1:38 slowest ninja ever :D I like the hair animation tho.
Good video dude. I dont agree Devastator being an easy game. It kicked my ass multiple times. I cant beat the end stage with the bosses.
Just to be clear, I said it’s easy to get into :)
@@SegaLordX haha ok i must have heard it wrong. Keep up the good work. Im enjoying your content
Sengoku on the Mega CD/Sega CD is an excellent port of a Neo Geo game. There's also a port of Earnest Evans on that the Mega CD/Sega CD that has some excellent music and voice acting which is only in Japanese.
I'm left to wonder if you plan to make an North American SEGA CD counterpart of this.
i really enjoy your videos thank you so much!
You should make a video showing all the sega cd games that used all the hardware features.
Nice vid, keep it up 👍🏼
If you haven't yet, you should check out Urusei Yatsura: Dear My Friends for the Japanese Mega-CD; it's an excellent point-and-click adventure game based on the classic anime series. While, yes, knowledge of the anime and Japanese would heighten the experience it isn't totally unplayable.
I love this channel!
excellent games that the Sega cd has, I only played the ninja Warriors others did not even know it.
Cyborg 009 is actually a fairly good game, if you are a fan of the original anime. In fact I daresay it is spot on in every way, but I can nderstand it is not for everyone, as the source material stems from the 60’s
night striker looks like an awesome lynx game
Huh. I'd thought Annet looked interesting before but SLX's opinion on it has me wary now. Devastator looks like a lot of fun though, was that released in NA?
No. Devastator was a Japan exclusive.
I always wanted a Sega CD. We used to rent one all l the time back then
Imagine a World where SEGA, forgot about the Mega CD and 32X and just released the Saturn a year earlier, perfecting the tools for developers, to get the best out of the machine and releasing the CD & 32X titles on the Saturn. Snather would be fucking incredible EVEN more so!!! .............................. And the Dreamcast probably wouldn't of died so early.
Great video as always,,,
I think it's a real shame that the second game you talked about isn't that good after you reviewed it because Annet actually looks quite sexy in the game compared to how she did in "El Veinto". ;3
Which reminds me Night Trap is on the Switch now for $1.50!
3:14 now that's what I call "bottomless"! XD
6:50 MY EYES
That Ninja Warrior game looks kinda like Rush n Attack from Konami but in a ninja version.
Sega really dropped the ball on this machine Sega CD could have been so much more
I worked in the games industry running several indie stores back then and told my Sega rep if they wanted the Mega DD to succeed then release cartridge games on CD for £10 less.
The Earnest Evans/el Viento series is excellent. Such great music in all 3 games.
cut the foods.....
"Nat as bad as you'd think" was that their marketing slogan?
No. It was “You’re gonna love this FMV shit whether you want it or not!”.
@MultiTarded There was one anime game that did get a game like that. Space Cobra, and it's got a fan translation now as well i believe.
Can Sega Lord be anymore unbiased? Sega CD is my DNA ❤️
Oh yeah, give me that sweet Daddy Mulk.
@2:30 o m g........BONESTORM !
4:54 Such anime, it hurts
I encourage you to take another look. The differences are massive.
What are the best Japanese Mega CD games that have been english patched?
Haven't played many English patched Mega CD games. Most of the better games came to the US.
great vid thank you :-)
Whats next genesis i missed ?
i know where most of the secrets in bloodshot a great multiplayer
I am sad that I sold my Mega CD. I loved it. But geeze, that walking speed in Ninja Warriors looks bloody awful. 😅
You forgot Captain Tsubasa on Mega-CD 😭
