It's heartbreaking that a game this well crafted is being hated on by people with miniscule attention spans for good storytelling.

Obsidagrim Um not really, more gameplay than cutscenes in this game and even at that the cutscenes were very enthralling. Just wondering, what exactly is a good movie to you?

***** And point and click games are just point and click, and a lot of others games can be broken down to just a handful of activities that are repetitive in nature. Just because you didn't find the story very good doesn't mean it isn't, because I can literally write an essay dissecting the story and what makes it engaging.
Notice most of the people complaining aren't commenting on the quality of the story, but that they're 'bored.' That is their attention span.

This game is mediocre. At best. I just finished the game and am actually here because after fighting the same guys for 10min I wasn't sure if the game did bug the fuck out again. But hey, this really IS supposed to happen. You can argue that this waaaaaaaay too long fight just represents her will to fight and never stop trying. But damn, I sat through enough boring puzzles, boring fights and overkill effects.
Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying it's a shitty game. It had it's moments (2 of the 4 Odin trials were really well made and interesting), the fight with the beast (Darkness) had some real Dark Souls feeling to it (which I liked) and the section before it when you desperately try to move from lightspot to lightspot had me thinking about my childhood, when I ran from bed to the light switch cuz I thought there were monsters in the dark (I'm sure that was the intended effect on the player during this sections).
But all that doesn't make this game good. Or a masterpiece like a lot of people claim it to be. The combat suffers from really bad FoV, a even more bad 'lock on enemy' system which will kill you one time or another cuz you can't switch fast enough, and don't get me started on gameflow, cuz you casually get thrown out of your immersion everytime you find a rune-shrine.
IN MY OPINION this game is a 5/10, at best. Great soundtrack, great visuals (even if the effect-gore is big in some situations), good acting, okayish story, but the rest just doesn't add up.

“A life without loss, is a life without love”
    I love that quote.
I- lost my boyfriend from a fluke adverse drug reaction in the aftermath of the disintegration of our relationship were he told me that I hadn’t heard from him in weeks because he had moved on and held no respect for anymore. That would be his last sentiment to me. I had even begun planning on proposing to him prior to the sudden end of communication.
He was the cause of the happiest moments of my life ...before... well... I had to decide if meeting him was even worth it in the end and- yes it was, because “a life without loss, is a life without love. “

i love how now when in combat there's only one soft, but clear voice. before it's a cacophony of various different voices ranging from scare, to angry, to frightened. now those it's just one voice that genuinely cares for senua's well being and wants to end the pain she's going through.

I hated the gameplay, felt clunky, the combat system was horrid and tiring, but I continued it because I wanted to see the ending of this story, and...

  • @ThePetuna2

This is brilliant! The root of Senua's traumatic experiences was her own father, a Druid priest who killed her mother and inflicted years of torment and suffering. And because Senua was struggling with psychosis since childhood, she was stigmatized and isolated by her own people. Dillion was the love of her life and losing him to the Vikings pushed her over the edge. The heart of her journey was to save Dillion's soul from the gods of the Vikings. The story is powerful and deep, the graphics are phenomenal, the voice acting is fantastic, and Senua herself is gritty and captivating to watch in action. I don't care what anyone else says, I want to play the game and find out for myself!

It tackles and puts onto the forefront a taboo subject such as psychosis, while exploring the merger of two historically different cultures...
This game is a gem for those who enjoy dark plot lines, Norse mythology or those who have had experience or wish to know more about what appears to be a very challenging and thought revoking illness.

To people who say they didn't realize you were "supposed to die," that's by design. I suppose some people were good enough at the fighting mechanics to fight the shadows indefinitely, but the entire point of the end what that it was supposed to drag you out until you just couldn't continue fighting either out of frustration or the shadows overpowering you. You were supposed to feel invested and full of that "HOW THE FUCK DO I WIN?" feeling because that's what Senua is experiencing.

I could've kept fighting them forever, but I was confused why I didn't win, so I had to look up that you had to die to win. They should've made it that after 15+ minutes, the game spawns so many enemies around you with a lot of health that they'll just overrun you, unless you just use invincibility and insta-kill cheats. Pretty much like the final level in Halo: Reach.

Also, this is the final boss battle where she basically went super saiyan so the enemies can't block any of your attacks and there's no point for you to use the parrying, which I'll say looks super dope when pulled off. I'll be posting gameplay soon from my playthrough. Feel free to peep. Ninja Theory did an amazing job with this game. A team of 20 people made a game that a team of 150-200 struggles to pull of. This is great for the indie devs and the future of gaming. Half the price. AAA quality.

In a game that is so deeply rooted in audio, this last battle is a hack on the player. I think the design (particularly the score) elicit strong emotion in the player and help drive the combat.

No game has ever hit me like this game has. Such raw emotion, and kick ass music to match the rage Senua is feeling. Everytime she fell, I screamed, “GET UP”! when the voices said, “give up” i screamed “NO”! This was one of the best games i ever played, and I don’t think I ever held my breath through combat sequences like i have in this game. I’m so happy I found it.

A genius move, in order to defeat the darkness, you have to lose and accept it as your ongoing companien. I remember, that I was blown away by this after the fact, I was fighting like half an hour, refusing, to give up. This awesome music too. Getting goosebumps all over again. After all this years I remembered and wanted to look that scene up again. Still awesome.. 😁👍

God damn dude, this game. I had some doubts of Senua’s mental state but I forgot about it after the first chapter. But this ending... it tore my heart out. So much heartache and pain for Senua. Wasn’t the most thrilling but the storytelling with it was enthralling. I haven’t seen such amazing writing since Spec Ops: the Line.

3:57 that scream that she does sounds so real because we evolved each that point where it's so hard to continue everything you've done to get to this point has been so rough so much pain and loss that it feels like it's impossible the odds being so overwhelming they literally black out the sky of Hope but for a moment there's a glimmer small one but it's enough to turn the dark tide when you feel that feeling of Hope coming back you have to take it with both hands and declare your intentions and seize the moment because it's All or Nothing because if you're standing through it all after everything that has happened then you can keep walking and if you could keep walking you can complete your goal

This scene made me kinda sad. Senua came all that way just to let go. She fought so much, went through so much, only to not be able to get what she first wanted. Was seriously the best culminating scene I’ve ever played in a game though. I’m already halfway through my second play through.

And because of this, I saw myself for what I really was. A 30-something man-child, victim. And I evolved into a good, responsible, grown man.

This game literally has me in tears every time I see it or play it because it's such a beautiful story it took me almost 45 minutes to realize in the final boss fight that the whole point of the fight is to just let it go when I drop that controller playing this game it felt so rewarding knowing that I won the fight before I even had to swing I won the fight the whole time because the goal was going to a place that was told to be unreachable a goal that was unattainable and like all the voices it was just a lie

One of the best games I've ever had the pleasure of playing.
My only complaint would be that the father is painted as objectively evil and Senua implied to be an objective victim. This story is one of the most nuanced takes on mental illness and self hatred that I've ever seen, yet the climax simultaneously tries to say 'there is no evil darkness or gods that Senua can destroy, Senua needs to accept that these voices in her head are just a part of who she is and learn to live with it' while also saying 'everything bad that ever happened to her happened because her father is an evil sack of shit'. One statement argues for black and white good/evil while the other acknowledges that the world isn't so simple.

    • @joeberger3441
      @joeberger3441 3 роки тому +4

When they mean there's no darkness, they're saying she isn't plagued by some dark entity. People can still be evil, but she isn't the one cursed by some supernatural darkness. It's her fathers abuse that exasperated her condition and made her think she is cursed. She needs to accept that she isn't cursed, there is no "darkness", and she can't rescue Dillions soul. Her fathers evil is to blame (and arguably at least some of the vikings) not the supernatural.
