- Join us this week @aboard as we spend a good amount of time untangling our boat from the mooring in Port Washington, NY. Have no fear though, we are boat people, which means we are resourceful and able to figure out most problems that are thrown our way. Once we untangle this ship we set off down through Hells gate, New York City and on to anchor in Sandy Hook, NJ. I hope you enjoy the views of the city on this beautiful Christmas Eve day. I remember the first time we motored through New York and how incredibly stressful it was. Luckily it gets easier every time. Tangled mooring lines happen all too often when winds are light and you just drift around the ball. Moorings with pennants are better but the only way is to unravel them like you are doing. The worst is when the winds come up and your loose ball becomes a constrictor knot. While long lines are prone to entanglement, short lines often cause the mooring ball to bang on the hull in a chop. The joys of boating. Captain Lon on the sv Watoosh currently at anchor in St Martin.

Well you where in my neck of the woods in this episode. My marina was about a mile from where you dropped the hook. We ran boat trips with 6 or 7 boats in the off fishing season or during a break from fishing. Manly up the Hudson or to Atlantic City. It was pretty neat to see that you stopped here.

Yeah, I enjoy trying to figure these things out and looking on Google earth to see just where you were. I do that with all the channels I watch. And yes, before I retired I was a detective. But that was a lot of years ago.
