If you don’t have problems, mishaps, and accidents while boating, it means your boat is at the dock. I was always learning. Just learn from those things. Love the channel, Brook you’re smart as well as cute. The kids and dog are so much a part of why I watch also. Braden is not to proud to admit problems. This channel is real life and I LOVE it.
As a telco employee and a boater. If you call NOAA with your GPs location they will connect you to the utility that owns the cable you are snagged on. Many times they will collect your info, ask you how much your ground tackle cost. Then ask you to ditch it. They will mail you a check for replacement gear. It’s a lot cheaper to buy someone a new anchor then get a cable repair ship dispatched and fix a damaged undersea cable. We actually had a container ship snag one of our this summer. They chose to yank it back up rather than ditch it. It cost us several million dollars to repair the fiber optic cable.
From instagram it looks like the finger is not slowing you down. Glad it’s not worse than it was. You all rock. And thanks for show the bad with the good, the pain with the pleasure. If you only showed the perfect stuff, us land locked people would start looking for cliffs to jump off of. Keep up the great videos. Penn is my spirit animal. I love his attitude!
Chef Penn is back! Mishaps are common on land around my place. I tore my rotator cuff which required surgery and a minimum 6 month rehab. (Don't do that!) I would love to say I had a spectacular mountain biking accident, but in reality I fell over the floor jack working on my car ! You guys are doing great running your boat and raising your family. What memories you have to cherish. Thanks for sharing them.
Good thinking Brook, great job! I for one am grateful you decided to share this. Our boating experience is primarily was in the California Delta, where the channels are pretty narrow. When there is an underwater hazards it is posted with giant signs on each side of the levy. We are now embarking on #BoatLife on the east coast, so thank you for sharing another thing to look out for while anchoring. Captain sneaking kisses is so cute.
Schematic’s is the word you were searching for, I think… for the papers telling you where all the wires, etc. go. Honestly, you guy’s are the only channel that I consistently watch, besides a few sailing ones, but I would imagine that most of the people just beginning to start cruising around with a motorboat have your channel as their main go-to place for “solutions”, like how to get a cable off the anchor!! 🍀
Mom toughing it out for the family!! 👍👍Family better be taking good care of her! Hope your finger heals well!! 👍👍👊👊 Penn is practicing his best blind monk disguise!! 😂😂🤣🤣👍👍
Brilliant solution to remove cable from anchor. I will remember that next time we are anchoring. Always good to learn from others experiences. Thanks for sharing.
I had a very similar dumb experience in Nelson’s Dockyard in Antigua years ago. We usually would Med-moor on the front dock but was completely full as was the outside anchorage. So I pulled around to the right side of the dockyard where more boats including a sailboat fleet were also Med-moored. There was sufficient depth so I dropped our anchor. Every thing was fine until the morning when I tried to haul up the anchor. As it came up the was strain on the windlass and my 100k pound sailboat was pulled bow down. I went foreword to investigate as my chain counter said the anchor had surfaced. It had as well as an ancient chain. Like you I passed a line under the chain and tied it off, the redeployed the anchor, and dropped the chain and retrieved the anchor. As I found out later this entire area was covered with a nest of chains which has been used a century before for keel hauling their ships to clean and re-copper the bottoms. Was shown on the harbor chart. :
Any time you anchor in an area with a long history of boat anchoring, it’s best to picture dropping the anchor into a junk pile. Our anchor got fouled in Grenada in around 20 feet of water that was murky at best. I got in my dive gear and felt my way down the chain. At the bottom I found our anchor had slid under a loop of chain that was attached to a large engine block. You are lucky the cable didn’t break, that can be an expensive repair bill to pay. Capt Lon from the S/V Watoosh.
We hooked a similar sized old WWII cable in Newport RI anchorage. Did the same maneuver to free Untethered. Good trick to know. Great speed on that trip. It seems we always get the current against us.
Brook you should have epsom salts, too. You can use it to treat infection, ease swelling, and clean wounds. Just dilute with warm water and soak till water is cool. Repeat if necessary.
I wonder how many hours, and hours, it takes to produce a video like this. It's hard enough to be at the helm at 4:30 in the morning but to start filming adds to the busyness. I love your videos and I know it is a tremendous amount of work to capture your days and then to edit and upload a video with music and visual comments added.
I think everyone is due a full day in bed with the sheets pulled over their head. Hopefully y'all worked through all of the grimilins and will have weeks of pleasant cruising. As I said before, some days you're the windshield and some days you're the bug. Have fun with Bradens parents.
21:10 Oooh I had a similar cut with my chefs' knife, on my left index finger (totally my fault). It cut about 3/4 of the way around and through the finger. I went into an urgent care place and got stitches, but after a few years, I still don't have full sensation :-/ You seemed to handle it well; I came close to passing out when the doctor was putting the stitches in... pretty typical according to him.
We were about a week behind you going south. We saw a boat anchored in that cable area at Sandy Hook and almost anchored there. Eric saw the cable area just in time. I could see how you missed it. Good to hear your method of getting loose. We do something similar with our Rocna. For our future knowledge…. How did you know it wasn’t a live electrical line? Glad you didn’t have to ditch your anchor!
Glad you missed it because it was annoyingggg getting unstuck. We don’t know for certain that it wasn’t a live wire but honestly it just didn’t look like it. I know that doesn’t sound scientific at all haha
Hey, you are not perfect, perfection died 2024 yo on the cross. lol Great job coming up with the solution. I will keep it in my brain ram memory, never know. 🤷🏼 I guess, when they say “cable area no anchorage”, one is taking a big gamble. You are fortunate to have a buddy boat. Good luck and safe travels. 🎉
And anchor release device should have allowed you to pull the anchor from the other end of the shank. That device allows you to back the anchor out from under rocks. Just my 2 cents.
Hahaha yes! And I promise it’s great after this! It was a funny few days. You have to keep in mind these few episodes are broken up within just a few days but spread out over a few months. We will actually be real time in 2 weeks! And soooo much happy exciting things to share 🎉❤❤❤ going to copy and paste this for others to read because we are getting this comment a lot hahaha
Well there’s the kids, the vast traveling experiences they’ve had and continue on, the friends they’ve made, and let’s not forget, the sharing of their experiences with us. 😊
Wow, you guys have had some really bad luck lately. Hoping it turns around pretty quickly. I definitely would not have posted the pictures of the cable in your anchor- he’ll I would not have posted anything about that incident. It was probably a cable carrying all the internet traffic for Wall Street! 😂😂
Confused a bit. In your drawing, why was there a arrow pointing out the 🐪 toe? If you need to delete, that is okay, but I hope you are laughing while you're deleting.😂😂❤❤ Love your channel. Good content and editing is superb.
Best keep quiet about the heavy cable snagging otherwise you could get a bill for repairs , see no evil hear no evel dont admit no evil and lastly dont record the bloody evil .
@lordabhiking.. 10-years of seeing UA-cam videos of charters, professional navies, coast guard and very experienced sailors (sail & mv) make mistakes. It’s part of the 3-d world of boating. You don’t give up or stop when you make a mistake in their world, you learn from it and become a better sailor. Watched a young couple, with no experience, hire an experienced yachtsman(licensed ships master) whom then took their newly purchased sail boat into a lowering bridge gate in Florida. This ended their sailing experience before it could even began as it took down the main and caused structural damage to the boat. Now that was a mistake by a 30-year sailing veteran. I see nothing but caution, care and learning from this couple as they live their life on the water.
I watch a lot of boating channels some have had a lifetime of ocean experience and every episode has mishaps very similar to the ones you have. Chalk it up to lessos learned and keep enjoying the journey!
@@xcgatesikr😂. Like starting to change out the shower knob… totally forgetting to turn off the house water 🙄. Forget what the wife was thinking, how do you explain that to your dad 😮😂😂

If it wasn't for bad days , we wouldn't have good days Brooke 😊 you all did Great ❤️ love watching your travels 😊😊
It seems like Brooke is always playing the part of the hard working dutiful deckhand.😊
Another great episode, thank you. It was interesting to see Atlantic City lights from the water. Best wishes for the new year!

Bonjour à toute la famille de France 🇫🇷
Je vous souhaite une bonne et heureuse année 2024.
Well, you had good luck this trip with the currents, at least.
And ya didn't even bite down on a stick, you go girl. There are many cables in that area due to the ammo pier and old Fort Handcock

Oh man that sounds awful! Stitch’s on a finger seems horrible
You should gave just cut the cable…lol…kidding…Watch out for the large cable crossing area - probably not a good place to drop the anchor.

Container ship is riding high should not be too bad of a wake.. How was it?
I enjoyed your video!
We already know the captain is non't dealing with a full deck...
Braden’s never really had a full deck. If he did the entire family would be living in a house with a nice job with a matching 401k plan.
FYI, on a wound like you had soap and water will be good, no need to inflict pain on yourself by using alcohol.
Fair! I didn’t have a way to get soap down in here.
Mistakes?
Never make them.
Never, never, never ever.
Ask me how I know!! 😳😳😳🤣
So anyone living in Sandy Hook who wondered why their cable and internet got all squirrelly for a short while now knows why 🙂

How would you know it "wasn't a live wire cable or anything"?....
No mention of the cable on the chart?
Not specific for that cable is that what you are asking :)
The chart just shows an area not to anchor, not a specific cable line.
