Over the course of this video we’re going to make a couple allusions to the BMW X5 since this iX is very similar in terms of dimensions
Which is why it’s alittle strange that the trunk is smaller in the iX
Usually EVs are able to maximize space inside HOWEVER, they have done with the rear seat and we’ll talk about that more later
Also, there’s no frunk…at all so you’re lookin at all the storage

1:23 - Looks
This may not be the best looking EV on sale, but it’s better looking than all the eggs Mercedes is passing off as EVs…but now let’s talk about all the awesome stuff going on with the iX

GOOD:
3:02 - The drive
You get dual motor AWD as standard
You also get air suspension as an option
And you get a rear steer module to make this feel more athletic
And for the size of this thing BMW has really focused on keeping the weight down and balance up
Loads of light aluminium and you can SEE all the CFRP when you open the doors or trunk
And the result is the balance on this car is exquisite
In basic terms, it still feels like a BMW
It’s really smooth
Shockingly refined and quiet
AND it’s still plenty quick, even the non M60 version
516 hp and 564 lbft which means you get to 60 in 4.4 according to BMW, but it’s more like 4 seconds
If that’s not quick enough for you, you can get the M60 version which will get to 60 in just over 3 seconds
4:25 - EV stuff
This is BMW’s 5th generation battery chemistry, which is a fancy way of saying 400V architecture
They are currently working on their 6th gen battery which will reduce charging times BUT even still this thing will charge 10-80% in 35 min
Which is pretty quick for the 105kWh battery
The max range with the 20 in wheels is 324 miles which is VERY solid and pretty accurate
5:08 - Interior details
First the materials - of course there was a push for sustainable and recycled materials, but they took it VERY seriously here
door cards made almost entirely of recycled materials
seats made with 50% recycled polyester
floor mats and coverings 100% recycled nylon
(including fishing nets recovered from the sea)
leather tanned with olive leaves
And then there’s the gold and crystal accents
6:01 - Rear seats
Remember when I said the trunk here is smaller than the X5 but that’s because a lot fo the space goes to the rear seats? Well look at how much room I have!

6:31 - Technology
This is something we don’t usually talk about when we discuss tech, but we HAVE to talk about the Bowers and Wilkins 4D audio
Headrest speakers for 4D audio
there’s speakers in the back and butt (feel)
Bowers speaker covers are cool and lighted
Oh, and it sounds awesome
And then of course the other tech stuff
This was the first BMW to get iDrive 8 which we’ve covered a number of times, but here are the highlights
Wireless ACP
360 cameras
Reverse assist
Integrated drive recorder
And the graphics are insane for your huge screens for your cluster and center screen
It’s not relly a surprise that you’ve got loads of great tech here on your electric BMW
7:28 - Price
The BMW iX is NOT the cheapest option you can buy, but I think it doesnt bring the most VALUE for the money…let me tell you what I mean
The BMW iX starts at about 87k for the 2024 model year…what’s on the website currently
That’s 2500 LESS than the Mercedes EQE SUV
And then there’s the new Audi Q8 eTron we just tested, and while the new Q8 eTron is a lot better than last year and every single one starts cheaper than the iX, you get less range, less performance, and it just doesnt feel as special…but it is better looking
And then there’s the model X, which brings another row and like 24 more miles of range BUT it also comes at another 11,000 premium
8:25 - Luxuries
This iX is also packed with cool luxury stuff like
Heated and cooled seats
Massage seat…just for the driver though
And a pano roof that’s tinted with electricity…fitting
You also get a clever little pocket in the passenger door for your phone
AND there’s a thoughtful phone pocket in the center console with ahole in it
Plus the car makes cool noises when you start it up
Sometimes, luxury comes in the form of simply making the driver feel more special than they otherwise would

I love how everyone's afraid to say the iX is a good looking car. I think it looks great.
me too however....the grill is iffy
Drove the iX M60 for a week and this was my first electric drive, big mistake. ICE cars dont feel the same anymore.
we own both etron and ix and the driving dynamics of the ix is waaaaay better than the etron. Also the infotainment of the etron is boring and personally dont like the haptic feedback, feels slow. The seats are more comfortable in the ix, e tron feels like a car with a better design on the outside but still people are more interested in the IX. One thing i would love to see in the next gen, that the 360 camera would activate when you are in narrow spaces just like volvo and other companies do.
nice dash better than a huge I- pad glued to the dash or 2nd screen that takes up space
Good video. One small note that now that there are more computer chips worldwide, at least the M60 version of the iX has the passenger massage function. SUBSCRIBED.
I took a test drive of the xd50 last week. I concur with all of your points, based on that experience. I was also pleasantly surprised that wireless Android Auto was also supported (from my Samsung Note 20). Loved the drive!!
Good review. One point to mention is that My IX 40 (which is not the top model) has both driver and passenger seas with massage funciton. Not sure which version you have been testing that has only driver seat with this funciton. Additionally, a mobile phone holder exactly the same size the one you showed in centre console, exist on the passenger door for passenger mobile.
Just bought the ix and I love it!!! I agree about the cup holder placement; if should stick out farther than the overhang otherwise, it’s awesome!

I own an Ix 50 2023, and the from passenger seat has a massage option.
You should try an iX with the optional wood panel for the middle console. Big improvement over the fingerprint glossy black. The wood has a subtle texture that lets you push the controls (Nav, media, activate manual drive recording) without looking down.
I spec’d ‘clear & bold application’ in my iX and it makes a big difference.

Beats glossy black with a bunch of fingerprints. The same glossy black you can find on a Hyundai or Kia.
After 12.000 KM in my iX40 I can confirm nearly everything you’ve said. Except the massage seats which comes for both seats now.
Is this Sport or Shadowline Trim? Wheels 21 or 20 inch?
Nice vehicle but the lack of sunroof is a killer
Why do ppl desire these sun roofs when what you really want is less light to come into the cabin while driving. I like it dark what can you say.

@@dwnshft 3 months! My commute is 80 miles round trip so my gas (18 mpg) is $600-$700 per month! For me it is too much and BMW iX has a $10k incentive for lease

I've got one, but the worst are the frameless windows. The sound when you close the car seems... cheap material.

Well I am not really a BMW fanboy, imo the Hyundai brand including Kia and Genesis is the leading EV maker today.
But this BMW, a "Legacy Auto brand" shows who is the boss in this price segment.
And put everything from Tesla at least two years behind.
I agree, with that…the Hyundai is doing great with producing EV’s and at reasonable prices as well
