They seem to have stopped during lockdowns for understandable reasons, guess they realized it was too inefficient and took too long? Or Chris didn't like doing it, but that seems less likely.
@@koolguy728no, that’s literally just how Chris is lol. He does it all the time. He doesn’t mean any harm by it, he just has his own instinct and thoughts on how to do things. Being told it's a double fry and then dismissing it immediately after, then claiming "It's fussy" when confronted. Why ??? 😂 I love these videos but Chris can be so needlessly pedantic sometimes lol
he did the same thing with the compost cookie episode...well he wasn't given that hint but he mentioned it himself and then dismissed it b/c it was too much effort. That kind of seems counter to his otherwise precise and fastidious nature
Agreed. I have 7 types of Soy Sauce in my pantry (most of them are admittedly Japanese variants not Chinese) plus 2 Tamari styles and other Asian sauces.
it's interesting how Chris is always so hard and demanding on himself, yet he tried to get away with totally ignoring Hanah's literally telling him to double fry the chicken!

@@Arch3r666 your note doesn't make any sense to me. The thing is, Chris had 7-10 different soy sauces presented to him. I miss when recipes had a specific chef attached. A lot of times the ingredients would reflect that chef’s POV, it was a lot more fun than making a more general version of a type of dish.
Disappointed in Chris when he equated helpful advice to "lets just double fry everything now". Extremely dismissive and felt a bit defensive that he could be wrong about something.
Not surprising that he didn't catch the hint Hana gave him, and the way he tried to talk his way out of it by way of the cooking in the wok being the second fry..! So pompous. SO typical! I cracked up at the new credits during the outro having Morocco labeled simply as 'Talent'. Pretty funny!! I bet he loves it.
I’m glad to hear people pronounce it the same as me because I’ve had people not know what I was saying because they’ve only heard it pronounced another way
It's actually a pretty standard stir fry with a few minor tweaks to get more in the spicy, sweet direction. I think he just doesn't know much about Chinese techniques and common ingredients.
Speaking of General Tso's Chicken let me put ya'll on: Jane G's Dim Sum House in University City West Philadelphia makes quite literally the best General Tso's Chicken you will ever have. It's a tad bit expensive but it's so unique and delicious it's worth every penny.
Chris is truly a cooking savant - even when he doesn't get it 100% I am always so impressed by him just identifying so many major ingredients. Maybe some day he can come visit us at our test mill and bakery in Lynn, MA and do a taste test with our stone-milled whole wheat organic bread versus the industrial roller milled competitor 👀
I’m really annoyed with his attitude about the double fry. First, he asked the token Asian for help then proceeded to ignore it. And then determines it’s a fussy step. Chinese cooks have developed this technique for centuries and there’s a reason those techniques are still used today.
He made an objectively worse dish as a result all because he "thought he knew better" than generations of talented Chinese chefs. He consistently whines about techniques that are even moderately involved, and I think he makes worse food because of it.
@@nutritionalyeast704You mean most recipes on food blogs written by non Chinese people? Of course they would be wrong. It'd be like if I tried to create an in and out smash burger using a Japanese hamburger steak recipe and saying the smashing part is fussy
I'm baffled that Chris asks for a clue/hint, literally gets told what to do and then decides not to do it....who does that? I'm always so on the fence on how I feel about him, that streak of arrogance oy
I can't believe Chris disregarded Hannah's advice, how arrogant can you be? I think he needs to sit down with some Made with Lau videos and learn some basic Chinese cooking techniques.
Golden Mountain is a Thai soy sauce, which is quite different than the standard Chinese soy sauce. If you're wondering why your homemade Thai food is not hitting it, try replacing the soy sauce with GM.
haha I do love very typical Chris not listening to instructions and going with his way. But yeah it seems like this is not Chris' specialty and if Chris wants I'd love to watch him try recreating more Chinese food to see if there's a learning curve :D
There is a dish at the Chinese restaurants in the south that have "Imperial Chicken" It is similar to General Tso's. I can't find the recipe anywhere and I have looked everywhere I can think of even under rocks lol. Anyone know where I can find it?
I've had at least 15-20 versions of General Tso’s Chicken and they were all similar but, all different as well. Trying to replicate *one* version seems a useless effort.

When she knew he didn't listen about the double fry I laughed soooo hard! The looks she gave the camera was hilarious! lolol

It's so like Chris to be literally told what to do and still think his way is better. LOL

because red chillies are the most suitable to be dried. not green
