The first big restoration I did (15 yrs ago, now) was on a late 40’s LG-2. Neck reset and refret - left all the beautiful natural relicing alone - turned out beautiful! The repairs cost aprox 1/2 the post restoration value, but the owner, an Englishman, was thrilled! It was his first guitar, bought used in London in the 1960’s. My friend, and fellow Canadian - a real guitar wizard, Colin Linden, has an affection for the CF-100’s. I had never even seen one until Colin came home from Nashville for a visit. He discovered this model while consulting for TV’s “Nashville” with Buddy Miller. Love your podcasts, Steve! ( I once watched an entire performance of yours from the stage wings, in London Ontario at a blues fest. I was drooling over an octave mando you had at the time, about 15 yrs ago) Peace
Thanks Steve, love old Gibsons....just bought a '50 CF-100 from a descendent of Emmett W. Lundy - great granddaughter who's mom was the first owner in 1949...
I'm a Dylan nut actually seen you open for him in 89 at Jones Beach what a treat I went to see Bob not knowing my all time favourite singer besides Bob was on the show. Anyway I have seen a picture of Dylan playing a CF100 he must have a collection like yours Steve cause he's played some guitars over the years and kept a lot of them.
Enjoying today after 2 years divorced. "her hand was in my pocket and her foot was on my neck"...I'm free! Beautiful reminder of the truth of that 12 years of my life.
I love Steve Earle, I love the LG-2, I love the CF-100 and I love the song, so I think it's safe to say I love the fact that I just found and saw this video. A video I love! ❤️
I love this series and I don't even own a guitar. Having Steve sing to us each week is sooo cool! He's been keeping time with that left leg since at least 'Heartworn Highways'! I love that, too. ☺
Steve, just watched the memorial tribute to Townes that you were part of. Loved the song you did that you wrote in Ireland about him. Great writing. Great performance. Really enjoy your guitar town videos. Sorry to say that I’ve only recently become a fan but better late than never.
I bought my 1946 Gibson LG-2 in 1966 when I was a 19 year old college student. It's the guitar that I learned to strum chords on and that's all I do today with 10 acoustics including 2 Martins and 6 Taylors. My 2600 covers on UA-cam continue to be my job in retirement.
Hadn't got all of Steve's albums but I bought Terraplane off the back of these videos, great album, and this is my favourite track, thanks Steve, keep em coming.
For me, it doesn't get any better than his Jerusalem album. It takes a certain degree of courage to release that kind of honesty into the world, particularly shorty after 9-11.
We are sorta entitled. Ha Ha Steve, that cracked me up... Was just thinking how the time flies Steve. July 2015 was at your camp. Over 5 years since my dad past Ann's they camp. Maybe I'll be back next year. Been a difficult 5 years. Keep on keeping on...Peace
A good source told me once that it was the an LG-2 was finest guitar he had ever heard. Knowing what he had go through his hands, I was shocked to hear that, but believed him immediately. That CF maybe the driest I’ve ever heard....those notes leapt through my little headphones. “A few burgers in it...”
Lovely! I’d been hoping like crazy you’d play that song at some point in the series. I’m from Australia but I lived in New York a year or so, that and down on the lower east side by Justin were my constant soundtrack.
Cool! I knew you had to have a Banner LG in there somewhere! Man, I’d love to get my hands on a Banner...even to just play it once! So cool! They were made by the Calamazoo Gals at Gibson! Great book! Check it out guys!
I have a wonderful CF-100E (looks just like the one in this video--except with a single coil pickup and gold knobs.) I can definitely be talked out of it if you're interested.

Love these videos and share a love for a fine, old Gibbo.

I'm not a guitar guy but I enjoy listening to your discriptions of these guitars. Thank you and God bless you.

Steve, I'm glad to see you're re-embracing Gibsons again. I always loved you on a Gibson.
I always learn something, when this man talks. :D
That cutaway design is wild man. Les Paul neck stuck on it
Thanks for all of the great guitar history, and the great tunes. It's good to see ya.
Thank you Steve. All the very best to you and yours.
Love the bargain offered by Steve’s grandmother. Ingenuity. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

That’s a great song. Fine performance.
Very cool! I have a ‘42 LG-2 that my Grandpa recently handed down to me. And next time I visit, I’ll be bringing home his ‘51 CF-100.

Love it when you leave the sound on lol

Thank you for all of this. Great.
[The boogers add to the magic, Maestro. Thanks for the music!]

This isn't the place for promotion

Very nice indeed, Steve Earle.

Love that song, please keep these videos coming!

LG stands for "Littler Guitar" 🤣
Great stuff. Thanks Steve.
More killer stuff, Steve, thanks!
I have a '53 LG2- it's a great little guitar.
Always great. Do you want to post a link to the charity you recorded for? I'm sure the theaters are still hurting.

Thanks Steve ⚓️
nice song
I heard LG stand for Lady and Girl model.
belly bridges came in '49
Cushty! I think he's going out in the garden to shoot a few tins with a catapult and dream up another song.
Cushty! Proper Tyneside word there.
❤️
That is a five piece neck.
What tuning is this song in? Sounds like open G?
I think it's for L-(size) Gut strings ..
1st
“L.G” stands for ladies guitar.
Steve, if those Martins are so goddamn superior to Martins why do you record so much with them
Boy dang me . . . I mean to Gibsons
I think it's because each has it's own personality that he feels suits the song hes working on
He said Martin was made better , but each have their own voice
Totally different sound between the 2 both have there own unique characteristics.
Wouldn't mind the ££s Steve spends on guitar strings!!
