    Love Steve Earle, he's one of the best America has to offer. Good to see he seems to be doing well with his weight, he looks healthy.

    I love your Guitar Town series, Steve, and particularly the ones about early Gibsons. I have a Roy Smeck Stage De Luxe from 1934. I finally had the Smeck converted by Alan Perlman (San Francisco) a couple years ago, after buying it back in 2006. Alan has done more than thirty Smeck conversions, and did an absolutely marvelous job on my Stage De Luxe. I'm looking forward to more of your postings, and thanks for all the wonderful information and music!

    Hi Steve, I was in the Blue Bird Cafe the night you sang this amazing song. It was September 13, 1995 and you performed in a benefit, raising money for dental care for homeless and uninsured.
    A memorable night.

    Fantastic series by Steve. That version of Ellis Unit One is the best I've heard.

    One my favorites is my 1938’ Carson Robison’ Recording king Model K. I performed the X-Braced conversion on it 10 years ago. I also installed a Graphite square Truss rod and profiled the neck like a 40s LG-2. It’s a gem to play.

    Resonant sound of that guitar matches the pensive mood of the song. Almost like they were made for each other. You have a brave and tender heart. Thank you.

    That song exemplifies the highest use of your talent. Steve you really illustrate so many facets of the human experience to those that have and have not had to experience that particular horrific, human attempt at justice. I feel blessed and torn after hearing this song.

    Thanks Steve...most impressed. I have to say, of the episodes I've seen of Guitar Town, this is by far the most resonant of all guitars shown. Sustain just goes on forever! The one I had the pleasure of playing was a 1938 Stage Deluxe, a gorgeous instrument as they all obviously are. It had also been reconverted from Hawaiian, though I wasn't aware the neck had to be sanded down. In any case, when I grow up, I want one (at the going price it'll take a mortgage or a lottery!). Thanks again!

  • @GIBKEL
    @GIBKEL 3 роки тому +1

    You have rounded out my dream collection. You already know this.....I missed the one I had a chance at as the e, b and g string missed the bridge plate and I had to take a pass. It was installed on a slant, like an accident or a Friday afternoon guitar. That and some broken braces with an unrealistic price tag - it begins to make no sense. It’s a miracle that it hadn’t cracked the top. Lighter tension Hawaiian tunings I figure. But man it was a monster of a guitar. Huge sounding, and rumbled through your chest. Almost frighteningly good. Alan Pearlman is another luthier that converts. That’s Brilliant! 🙏

    Thanks to Jackson Brown, and now you, I have been dying to have one of these! Of all Gibson flat tops, this is the one I want! (I’m a total Martin guy, too). I’m happy to hear your report on the re-issues. I got to play one, and was disappointed. My desire was then, watered down. Now it’s back. I’m just afraid of how many of my guitars it would take to get a Crandall retrofitted original!
    Peace

    Hey Steve,
    REALLY impressed by your knowledge and interest about vintage guitars, enjoying these videos.
    I don't have one for sale or anything, but you might like to look at some of the better non-Gibson branded Gibson-made stuff, like a Ray Whitley Jumbo. These are basically AJ's in disguise sold by Ward's and they come in Mahogany and Rosewood.

    Hey Steve I know you got better things to do but, I found a reissue of the Gibson Roy Smeck Deluxe with the headstock "Roy Smeck Deluxe" lettering and that stupid puckguard overlap on the rosette. Even though it's not period correct, do you recommend it? Or if anyone else reading would you recommend it? I can't afford an original

Hey Steve, in spite of the person trying to scam me by pretending to be you, the fly fishing offer still stands. Let me know by contacting me through my website or UA-cam channel. Your anonymity will be foremost if that’s your wish. A drift boat on the North Platte is soothing for the soul. Take care!
