    Great video!!!!! I recently transitioned my 5 month old kitten to pine because I literally got exhausted cleaning the clay litter every minute! However I have a regular litter box and now will have to purchase the shifting litter box from them since I’ve been contemplating on getting that exact one, so glad I found you’re video🙌🏽

    I bought this same sifter combo at Walmart for just under 17.00, and same price on Amazon. BUT I continue to use my same old boxes! I just scoop poop (into a litter genie I bought used on Marketplace), then pour rest of pellets into the sifter pan that sits on one of the pans that came with it. I just shake the pellets until dust free and pour the remaining pellets back in the litter pan that was used. Add more pellets if needed. Because I’m sifting in the garage, I just leave sifted dust until I need to empty, which I dump under my bushes outside (just like the outside cats do). I no longer smell cat urine from 4 cats all over my house like I did with regular litter. I only scoop poop one a day and sift when I think it needs it. LIFE CHANGING!!

    Hi thanks for the video. I am just wondering did you notice more of a poop smell when you used wood pellots vs clay and lets say you didn't strain the pellots would that help mask the poop smell by covering it in sawdust?

  • @francispham9384
    @francispham9384 4 місяці тому

    Late on this, how often do you replace the whole litter? I sift daily for the saw dust while scooping the poop out and I also dump out the whole litter box and clean it once a week. I have a regular nonsifting litter box but will switch to a sifting one soon, so will it be any different? I know you said you only sifting and throw out the saw dust one once or twice a week, but what about replacing the litter or cleaning the litter box?

    Thanks for the update! I use the hardwood pellets at Menards 4.99 I also use a double pan system, the bottom has a puppy pad to catch the urine. The cat pans are Lasercut by A Vet I know in Port Huron. These pans allow the sawdust to fall through and pellets to stay on top. Its easy to clean.We have a Cat Rescue #ASecondChanceFelineRescue and this system is great. We asked the Veteran to cut the pans a certain way with Laser. We use a bin to dispose of the poop. Great tip on the scooper!! Thanks for Sharing

    i’ve had my cat for about 3 weeks and she used the pine litter pretty good, she would go right up to it and do her business and bury her poop, but after the second week she started to not bury her poop, idk if it’s litter related or something else. but if she does not bury it, it reeks the house FAST! i’m not sure if pee stinks, but with this litter i’ve never had to worry about a pee smell, i guess that litter absorbs it perfectly

    What does your litter box smell like? My main concern is the smell (i hate the smell of traditional clay litter). I’ve heard it smells like pine but is it bad? Also, do you get an ammonia smell from the pee? Thanks for your video!

    • @SvenandRobbie
      @SvenandRobbie  3 роки тому +1

      It sometimes has a strong pine smell depending on the pine batch. The pine smell isn't bad; it smells like a forest. For my three cats, we use two litter boxes to this day and we empty the dust once a week. By the end of the week there is a pine smell and a hint of "tart" or "acidic" smell (hard to describe), which I think may be from the urine. Keep in mind though I should probably be emptying it out at least twice a week with the amount of dust I get, but you know how life gets and you can't get to it right away 🤷‍♀️. Honestly, the smell isn't too bothersome, and the cleanup is very easy. The dust transfer from litter box to trash very smoothly (no sticking). Hope this helps!

    Hi, I gotta say I'm using the same system you are using and is great, I use it with normal pellets though. I wanted to use pine pellets as well but I read that pine and pine oil is harmful to cats (it seems that affects their liver), do you know anything about that?

    • @SvenandRobbie
      @SvenandRobbie  4 роки тому +1

      They sell pine pellets that are dried to certain specifications to remove pine oil. Feline pine is good. Tractor supply, I feel as a scientist, also should minimal pine oil based on temperatures they use, but they don’t disclaim that. So to stay safe, you can try feline pine or brands marketed for cats

    • @SvenandRobbie

      The sawdust sits under in a different pan so it doesn’t get tracked. The pellets do get tracked but I would say less than clay since they are bigger. Also my litter boxes are in an enclosure so it helps reduce tracking.

    I dont understand how people claim this is low dust. I've been using it for about 4 years and it creates a lot of dust and sawdust that gets everywhere. Sifting process puts it in the air, so does pouring new litter in. I've given up constantly wiping the white baseboards and doors. Not good for anyone but especially asthmatic people/cats. The litter pellets themselves track very minimally, and it is cheap.

    You can use extra large puppy pads as liners, but just note that my cats tear and chew at the overhang so I have to fold/tuck them under. In Canada, Canadian Tire sells 40 lb bags of hardwood pellets that is sold as pet litter for cats and horses. Also, I found this litter box works great with wood pellets (www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0002ASCO4/), but I am looking for a way to elevate the shifting pan a bit more from the under pan so there's room for more sawdust - maybe foam or wood doweling set under the lip would work.
