- Pine pellet litter has become my favorite type of cat litter. My cats have been using it for a few years and I wanted to share my experience of it's pros and cons to help you decide if it's a litter alternative that you'd like to try with your cats.

I used it for a large older black fluffly cat with huge paws that had no problem with the pellets and took to it immediately. My experience with Tractor Supply Pine Pellets is the easiest, most biodegradable, least odorific thing I have ever used for cat litter and I don't scoop the pee, just the turds, but I used dolomitic lime in litter: it mostly sinks to the bottom of the pan. Tractor Supply also sells Barnlime for cheap and some pelleted Lawn lime which has no dust at least. For your garden you might want to buy a garden grade of dolomitic lime or oyster shell lime. I dump the used litter on my roses for mulch. Good on the landscaping. The pine pellets EXPAND a lot, so don't overfill the litter box. I find you don't need the sifting litter box, just the dolomitic lime and leave the pee until you notice an odor and then scoop off the good pellets on top and dump the soggy bottom. Easypeasy.
Recently I went to Tractor Supply for more of the pelletized bedding, but they were all out, they did have Olympus Douglas Fir pellets however. I reached out to the manufacturer about whether these pellets were safe to use for cat litter, and they said absolutely as they dry their pellets at 800°. And a couple of benefits is that it was $1.20 cheaper a bag, and I didn't see any broken, leaking bags, which is pretty common with the pelletized bedding.
I was going to go this route but decided not to because of saw dust. It bad for the cats and humans to inhale and even states on the bag that it can cause cancer. So we decided on grass litter and walnut litter.
@@arlenesusanarivera7809 the pellets only turn to sawdust when urinated upon, and the moisture from the urine will help keep the dust contained. And once the pellets have turned to sawdust, the sawdust should be removed as it can't adequately absorb any more urine. In my opinion, the pine pellets are certainly safer, and more environmentally friendly than clumping clay.
The bedding for horses does have a chemical smell that I find unpleasant. I use Feline Pine instead and have had good luck with it for over 20 years.
Much less dust than clay litter, I use an old collander from the thrift store to sift the dust out from the pellets. If there is a smell, I shake a little Arm & Hammer litter deodorant into the pellets.
@@rhyta5042 chemicals and harmful additives aren't allowed in animal bedding, so I don't know how you're smelling something that doesn't exist. And as they're kiln or rotary dried at high temperature, there is very little odor period.
@@dh2392 Thanks for telling me I am imagining things. The brand I tried did have some type of moisture guard sprayed on it, that was over 6 years ago and I don't remember the brand name. But it did have a funky smell.
Pine pellets and sifting letter box setup works great. Near ZERO mess. Much easier and far less expensive too. Near zero odor as well.
I absolutely love pine pellet cat litter!! I’ve been using it for over 20 years for my cats now and they love it too - at least they don’t have any objections to it! :). The odor control is amazing and generally much less tracking than clay litter… Certainly it is much easier to clean up if they do track it because of the size of the pallets.
The only issue I have ever had with my cat using his litter box with pine pellets was with my elderly cat several years ago who had developed some serious health issues. I imagine there were parts of his body that were experiencing aches and pains which had not been the case previously - at that point, I did notice that he pooped outside of the box a couple of times. I realize that possibly the pine pellets were a little rough on his paws with his elderly and unwell state of being at that point. Instead of trying to switch the litter entirely I was able to mix the pine litter with cobble paper litter which is much softer… This solution worked perfectly and he used his box as normal again.
I highly recommend pine pallet litter to everyone!. As with any changes in litter… Be sure to change the litter slowly as described in this video… Combining a small amount of the new litter with a much larger portion of the old litter in the beginning - than over time increasing the amount of new litter and proportion to the old litter until you were able to switch entirely - I have never experienced serious rejection by my cats but I have heard of others experiencing significant issues with their cats rejecting new litter when they tried to switch the litter all at once… instead of building up to it gradually.
The price of pine pellets at tractor supply is great no I found the bag to be extremely heavy and unwieldy to carry so I have only purchased it at tractor supply once so far - I may try it again in the future or see if they have a smaller bag such as a 20 pound bag!
Switching over now. We have four cats and OMG the litter is soooo expensive for the "good" clumping litter and it stinks all the time. I can't keep up. It's all over the floor constantly and most of the stuff in my vacuum is litter. Fingers crossed my kitties will make the switch.

Update: I went. O M G. LIFE CHANGING. NO mess, NO smell. Sphynx used it willingly and we are all happy now!!! Wish I would’ve known sooner but so glad I know now!!

I'm thinking about switching to pine soon. So sick of the dust and heavy clumps of pee and the ammonia smell is terrible.

I have a sifting litter box which sucks with clumping litter and pee mix. Definitely going to try this!
I made the switch 2 months ago. There are definite pitfalls, but no complaints. i used to use clumping kitty litter from a major retailer, and spending 13.00 for 40lbs of kitty litter for 2 cats, adds up.
Been using for a good 2-3 years. Big savings and FOR ME it has a great smell ofc you got keep that maintenance up with any type of litter.🌲
We’ve been using the pine pellets for several years and I never want to go back to other cat litters. These 40lb bags are so much less expensive, much better at odor control, and much more environmentally friendly.
A sifting litter box is a must to simplify the process. I do not recommend the Breeze litter system, though. Of all the things we tried, that was the worst. Didn’t like the pee pads, the sliding tray, or the cost of the box and Breeze pellets. We ended up donating everything except the one pee pad that we used while testing it out.
We made several of our own but what we liked best was the Petmate Arm & Hammer Large Sifting Litter Box. Less expensive and works very well. It isn’t designed for use with pine pellets so we needed to make a modification so the sifting tray sat higher above the lower trays. We cut a pool noodle in half, wrapped it around the sifting tray just under the rim and duck taped it closed. Works very well. We’ve been using the same trays for about 5 years. Just added another row of pool noodle because the sifting tray had stretches a little bit and was a little closer to the sawdust that had fallen through to the lower tray than I liked a day or two before garbage day.
Much less fussy than the Breeze. They are quick and easy to clean by just moving the sifting tray to the third tray that comes with the set, dumping out the sawdust from the second tray, washing it, then putting it at the bottom of the stack. Sounds more complicated than it actually is.

This is more eco friendly! I work in the forestry industry and these are from pine chips that are bi product from saw mills. Instead of using the pine chips or pellets to burn to make power for the processing plant, they reuse it and sell it on the market as pet bedding.

I tried using sifting litter boxes with this type of litter. Most of the ones at pet stores had holes that were too big, so I made one myself (lots of videos on UA-cam on how to do this). It was definitely quicker to do the daily cleaning that way but because I use big storage boxes (bigger than any litter box I've ever seen) with high sides, they got heavy and were awkward to empty into garbage bags. It was always messy.
I ended up just sifting with a scoop daily. I scoop out the solids, tip the box so that everything is against the end without the opening, scoop up a bit and shake it over a garbage can designated for this purpose. Then I dump the remaining pellets at the empty end of the box. If the box is dirty, I just wipe off the empty end with a wet cloth and dry it off before sifting and then do the same with the other half once the sifting is done. It takes longer than if you have a sifting box but I find this way much easier and simpler in the long run.
A tip for when you're shopping for a litter scoop and/or sifting box. Take some clean pellets with you to the store so that you can check if the slots are too big or too small. Too big and you can't separate the dust from the pellets. Too small and the sawdust won't easily fall through the holes. You want something just a bit smaller than the pellet width. I also suggest a big scoop to make it faster if you decide to sift with a scoop instead of using a sifting box.

We literally just switched to pine litter a few days ago. Instead of getting tractor supply brand we got it from our local feed store. It has a LOT of sawdust in it right out of the bag. Does this happen to also be the case with the tractor supply brand? My brother is the one who does the cat litter and he said that the amount of sawdust in the bag from the feed store raises as much dust as the clay litter and really irritated his asthma.
If anyone could answer that question I'd be really grateful. Basically wanting to know if the tractor supply brand also has a ton of sawdust in it right out of the bag.
I've been using this for a few years Wyeth the large breeze boxes, but I recently got an Arm and Hammer sifting box and I like that even more. I ended up replacing all of my breeze boxes with the arm and hammer. (They were due to be replaced anyway.)
Going to try this. I've tried paper pellets but wasn't happy. I have 8 rescues. Planned on stopping at three rescues but one was pregnant. Had five kittens. All are scheduled for spay or neuter next week. My house doesn't smell real fresh at the moment but all are litter trained. Loved the Tidy Cats lightweight but sooo expensive with 8 of them!! Plus it doesn't break down and compost as I'd like for it to. Hoping this pine will take care of smells and break down naturally. I live in the woods and hope it's better than clay, which goes NO WHERE!! Have started taking it to the Incinerator locally to dispose of . Thank you for the review. I needed help in disposing of the waste for these incredible creatures. Will go to Tractor Supply tomorrow. It's out of the way, but if it helps keep these beautiful little ones here, I'm willing to go the extra mile for them❤️❤️❤️

The pine ones meant for cats spefically has a weird smell and we didn't like it, also costs more.

Sifting boxes are usually designed for clay litter, not wood pellets, so they work less than ideal. The Tidy Cats Breeze Boxes are probably the best, but urine soaked litter collects on the bottom raised edge, and the slots aren't edge to edge, meaning you have to stir the pellets around to get all the sawdust thru the slots, and good lord are they expensive, especially for a litter box that isn't very large. I use medium mixing tubs from Home Depot, less than $8 each that are larger than pretty much any litter box, along with a 1/4" mesh gold classifier pan on top of a 5 gallon bucket with compostable bag inside. I just scoop the sawdust into the classifier pan, stir and even shake it until the sawdust has fallen thru into the bucket, and toss the pellets left in the classifier pan back into the litter box. The poop, I use a Litter Lifter Pellet Scoop, scoop and flush down the toilet. Where I live, the city leaves out compost recycling bins, and I just toss the compostable bag full of sawdust into the bins. Certainly a lot better for the environment than clumping clay.

This allows pellets, or pieces of pellets to fall thru, which is wasteful.

My elder cat stopped wheezing and snoring when he slept. Dust. Finally identified it. Going all pine after 1 wk of left over clay mixed. No stench. !!! the clay we used was good clumping, but
the formula changed to something clogging into the paws. Yuk..clogged and hard caked on the paws. that did it!!! no more clay.
Started my new cat (first time owning one!) on pine litter after watching a tik tok about it- haven’t dealt with ANY pee smell!!! And BARELY any tracking when he jumps.
Those were 2 things i was dreading when I knew I was bringing a cat home, and thankfully I don’t have to deal with pee smell, or stepping on dust everywhere. In my opinion as a new cat owner it makes it soooo easy and tidy.

I don’t like the smell of clay litter either honestly, especially the scented kinds, but only after they use it. Before that I love the smell. It doesn’t really mask it to me it just mixes with the smell of their waste, I recently started using paper pellets but they’re kind of expensive, I’m probably going to try this. I’m not really sensitive to smell or anything but if I can prevent myself from smelling something bad I will lol
I just changed from silica cristals to this litter and my cata loved it, there was no slow transition.

"I've read a lot on line from different places that pine is great ~as long as it's been treated especially for a cats used, where they treat it by burning off the toxic oils. I read that we should not use pine made for horse bedding or for wood burners, because they aren't treated and can cause our cats liver damage from the oils inn the wood that are toxic specifically to cats.
I had already bought a large bag from tractor supply company. Now that I know, I'm giving these pellets to a friend who has a horse. Liver damage is too final.

We have been using method for over 3 years. We put craft paper in the lower pan under the sifter and put baking soda onto the paper. We remove the paper with urine soaked saw dust once a week. I find it smells if we don't do this and it is very easy to clean up and maintain.
I use the clumping non scented but I really do dislike all the dust and the chemical smell even on non scented
I've been using TS bedding pellets for many years, it is the best. I try other litters, but always return to the pine pellets. No smell and easy clean up because it turns to a sawdust type of product, but without the dust. If you have sifter type boxes it also works in those too. IMO a win, win situation.
What kind of sifter box do you have?
This literally solves the litter problem. No mess, either. No litter spewed all over no tracking no dust; it never comes out of the box at all and no smell.
I get my pine pellets from Canadian Tire, about 7$.... love it..
We just switched to spruce pellets litter. This is the same pellets that you would use In a pellet stove. 7 bucks for 40 lbs (Canadian).
We switched our cats 'cold turkey' and they seem to have adopted it ok.
We also use a sifting litter box which is MUCH easier than using a handheld sifter.
I've switched 🎉 and it's amazing just threw out the last of clay 🙌

Although not as inexpensive as the pellets, I use Okocat. It's like fine wood shavings and smells like wood. No cat smell at all. Plus, no having to sift or bag the clumps,no dust and it's flushable. My two kitty boxes are in one of my bathrooms I scoop and toss in toilet. Easy!
I have to bag all mine since we have a city sewage system due to possible toxo contamination. Where do you buy the Okocat? I’d love to give it a test run
I use , (EASY BEDDING PELLETS) PREMIUM PINE ,white bag that the horse race tracks use and it lasts 4 times longer than the tractor supply green bag bedding AND, all you gotta do is take out the poop and mix around the remains till you smell a slight ammonia smell which will be several weeks ( 10 cats in one room ) in a 32" x 15" tub.I have 2 tubs in one room and this system works well.The pine smell is activated real well with this name brand .That way your not throwing away good lets call it saw dust .

I love pine litter. I started my kitten on it, and it was great. However I went on vacation and left her and her litter box with friends. Their cat was using clay. My kitten decided she liked that better. I have tried every trick in the book for 5 years to switch her back. She simply will not use it! Sigh! My advice is start with it young. If starting with an older cat, I wish you the best!

Hi, I just read an article about the tractor supply brand and they said since it did not state anywhere on the bag that it was kiln treated that they contacted the company manufacturer and they confirmed that it was treated. You would think that they would put that on the bag though.
I've seen comments that the TSC pellets seem to have changed (darker, dustier, less effective). I recently bought our first bag, and it did seem rather dusty. Have you experienced this? Is it just a certain lot and maybe a temporary thing, I wonder?
I'll be adopting a cat next week. I've not had a cat in about 40 years, so I'm refreshing myself on everything that I need. The rescue says that they currently used the clumping clay litter. My coworker who adopted through the same rescue mentioned that she uses the pine pellets, so I'm doing my due diligence and finding out about it. I will start out the new baby on the clay but will try to switch him to the pellets.
So with using the breeze litter box system, and going with your pellet system, bypass the pee pad in the bottom tray? And then that would just be the "sawdust tray" for emptying?
So we are new to the pine pellets litter. We have 2 4 mos kittens. One of our kittens has some issues peeing on the floor. We decided to try the pellets hoping it attracts her in. We'll after the 2nd day of using the pellets she has been using the pellet box for peeing...yay, but she does still pee where ever she wants. The only thing so far we don't like about the pellets is when they poo is they can't cover it up. They try and in that process they get poo on their paws. So, well use what we have left and see.
2 things: 1) I’m concerned on the abrasiveness of the pellets on the cat’s paws. If they are too abrasive, it could damage the cat’s paws and cause an infection. 2) I’m concerned about the potential pine oil of the product and the controversy of the health side of the pellets. With wood dust being a potential cause of cancer, I’m worried how that could affect a small animal like a cat. Can anyone add any perspective on this?
The sifting pans are the better alternative to this scoop method.
Sifting littler box either bought or home made work well for getting the sawdust out.
So does a 1/4" mesh gold classifier pan on top of a 5 gallon bucket with a 13 gallon trash bag inside. The city puts out compost recycling bins where I live, so I use compostable bags, and just toss the full bags of sawdust into the bins.

H, I am going to try the pellets, but for a 40 lb. bag, i will be paying 20.00$ plus shipping from some places i have looked at. So as these Pellets are really starting years ago are now the companies seem to be price gouging like every other company we need to buy from like groceries, utilities and etc. Like your video . Can I use any other Wood Litter? Like Pit Boss brand? I can't find pine wood litter in Puerto Rico.
I use it because it doesn't get stuck to the bottom of the litter box which I find annoying. I am sure anyone who used a clay litter will tell you that eventually. Even the alleged non stick clay litters stick. It can put someone at their wits end trying to find a way to solve that problem. The pine litter does turn into dust as it is used but it does not stick so much once hydrated. Also the pine neutralizes odors. There may be a subscription brand for a litter like this but chances are your pet store has it with no pesky subscription. BTW you may have noticed how subscription fees are starting to creep into everything.
I just bought some. Its $10 now! Still cheaper! Wish me luck!
Use a double pan, with top pan scored with holes to let dissolved pellet bits drop to bottom pan with a good top shake. Scoop poop and carry on with your day. At the end of the week, just remove bottom pan's contents.
Is this pine brand sharp? I got some and just realized it's sharp!

I haven’t found any sharp bits with this brand. It certainly is chunkier than other litters so cats may or may not take issue with that
The pellets have been cured to burn off the caustic oils. They are safe for cats. Always buy kiln-cured pellets!
I've tried wood pellets marketed as cat litter (most expensive), farm animal bedding (less expensive), and kiln-dried pellets with no chemicals added for wood-burning stoves (least expensive). They all have somewhat jagged edges due to the way they're produced. The Exquisicat wood pellet litter had the smoothest edges but none were completely smooth unfortunately. I think this is one reason some cats don't like this type of litter. Having said that, in 3 years of use, it has not injured my cats in any way and it's the only kind of pellet litter that doesn't set off my one cat's allergies (and doesn't smell strongly and isn't prohibitively expensive).
I use pine with TSC pellets works great . The pine for smell , the TSC is cheap .
My fiance' and I just adopted a new kitten a couple wks ago, and we got the pine pellet litter. It is better for the environment and smells alot better for bathroom usage for our kitty. We got the brand "Equsicat", works good.
I really loved that brand! No complaints. I wasn’t a fan of the smell of Feline Pine. Congrats on the new kitty ❤️❤️
I’ve been using pine litter for 4 years now. I prefer America’s choice animal bedding, I order it online and it arrives at my local Ace Hardware 40 lbs for under $10 and it smells great once the cats use it. Just in case you want to try another brand out 😊 the nearest tractor supply to me is about 40 miles out so I did some research and gave this brand a chance and it happens to smell way bette than any other brand I’ve used.
Update, I went and bought a bag of the pine pellet at a feed store. Much more affordable for a 40lb bag! 👍👍
We just brought home 4 kittens that were abandoned at the lake and starving I haven't had a cat in over 35 years....mostly because I hate litter boxes. After a week with these kittens I remember how much I hate litter boxes. The smell is horrendous and there is litter all over that my eobot vacuum and regular vacuum won't pick up.
I am heading to tractor supply now. I wonder about using a plastic bag and dumping the pellets into a noodle strainer to remove the used dust? I don't have a sifter box currently. This video was extremely helpful.
@@hereslynna noodle would work, too, if I have a spare one. The only concern is that it may be too small and will take longer to sift out the litter. I had a nice sifting litter box, the Arm and Hammer kind, and to think l threw it away because I switched to another type with higher sides. 🤦♀️Would've been great to sift the pine litter.

what do you do about the pellets that dissolve? the bottom of my cats litter box is already full of powder from the pellets dissolving from urine. also, the ammonia smell is very strong only after a couple of days, and i have no idea how to stop it
I sift the litter over a trash bin or bag and keep the pellets. I do this daily or every other day to keep the powder to a minimum. I have 2 cats and 2 boxes
I have used it for years. Only difference is I rehydrate it with 2 pts water prior to putting it in the litterbox. And I never scoop. I simply dump when needed. I have 1 pan per cat so that's 1x a week for me
May I ask why you rehydrate it first? I just got my first kitten and am trying to find a better alternative to clay litter, but I'm not sure on the pellets yet
@kbrown6635 the pellets are larger and do not do a good job of surrounding and covering the poop. For litterboxes used for both poo and pee, I put a thin layer of regular non-rehydrated pellets on the bottom, then cover with 2 to 3 inches of the rehydrated pellets

I need to go back to plain pine pellets. I use a clumping pine and love it but it is not cost effective!!
I have three cats all over the age of 9 and has used clay litter all their lives. A little over a year ago I switched over to the wood pellets. Two of my cats have no problem with it. But my one cat seems to not like it. I occasionally find poop on our carpet and he occasionally pees outside the litter box. I have four big bags of these wood pellets and hate to change because it is so much cheaper and my other two cats don't mind it. Has anyone experienced their cat rebelling using this litter substitute? Has anyone tried making the pellets wet with water to soften them so their cat will perhaps take to the pellets better?
This is all I will ever use. I mean, the cats are going to use it, not me lol.
The sifter saves the good pellets and the poop.
Switched over, the only issue I have is, my cat buries his poop and it’s hard to sift the pellets from the 💩
im a week in transitioning my cat from clay litter to these pellets. so far she shows no interest but im hoping she changes her mind
My biggest concern, having two long haired cats, is that the poo doesn't cover well with this method and they will have poo stuck to their backend/fur trying to navigate around the box before we sift it. Has anyone using this method found this to be a huge issue?
I have been using this for 3 years now. I really don't like the smell of the pine pellets. Does yours smell as well?
This brand I use has a barely there scent of wood. Other pine brands I’ve used have a more noticeable pine scent

Yeah- I just set up a new one in here with that-- and so far they've done NOTHING but stand and LOOK at it!! ha. (I'll give it a day or two- then add a little to the clay and then gradually work them into it--- but so far-- it's just been STARED AT!! ha.

We literally just switched to pine litter a few days ago. Instead of getting tractor supply brand we got it from our local feed store. It has a LOT of sawdust in it right out of the bag. Does this happen to also be the case with the tractor supply brand? My brother is the one who does the cat litter and he said that the amount of sawdust in the bag from the feed store raises as much dust as the clay litter and really irritated his asthma.
If anyone could answer that question I'd be really grateful. Basically wanting to know if the tractor supply brand also has a ton of sawdust in it right out of the bag.
I wonder if the bag was roughly handled in shipping or went through humid conditions causing it to start breaking down. I see bags with dust but minimal overall
You need to make sure it's KILN DRIED PINE PELLETS! Pine oil is deadly for cats/kittens. Kiln dried has cooked all the toxic oil out.
@@badcatfamily yes that's possible. We bought more from the feed store and it was much better than the first bags.
So it might just kind of be luck of the draw when getting it from the feed store lol.

you can try misting the top with water. I have used this litter for horses, and we always gave it a shot with the hose. this will fluff up the pellets, but not soil them.
I never really felt my clumping litter smells or anything

If you have spent lots of money on Modkats boxes,ect…don’t try drilling them…too hard! I also had some really big sifting boxes.the ones with two regular and one sifting. The holes on the sifter are too big,the pine pellets fall through. BUT..I stole an idea I found on u tube..buy a piece of hardware cloth..I needed a 24 by 12 inch piece..and tape it into the bottom of the sifter. Use one of the other boxes for the catch box…scoop out the poop, flush or discard however..and then pour the remaining pellets and sawdust into the sifter. Shake it until all the sawdust is collected in the bottom tray,then pour the good pellets back in the litter box. If needed wipe out the litter box first. I have 16 rescues,the cost of clumping stuff was ridiculous…the pine pellets are 6 dollars for forty pounds as compared to 27 dollars! Plus, the weight of the dirty litter was killing me,and disposing of it ..well…the pine pellets are light, there is no odor, and most of my crew are using it just fine( a couple of old prima donnas are hold outs) . 😻😻
Use winco perforared stean pans. The holes are just right so they dont fall through in my experience

Yes, I scoop out poop as soon as possible and the dissolved pellets I try to sift out once a day
That’s the part turn me off-pick up poop!
So online that says pine is toxic to cats so I guess they somehow treat this. Is it the pine oil that is toxic and somehow they treat the pine? So then it's like safe for cats because pine is toxic to cats and can cause liver damage and death. So I just have to clarify the treatment they do here because I'm avoiding pine altogether unless I know otherwise.
You’re correct about pine oil, but this pellet is kiln dried and safe. Even has a cat on the package. I’ve been using for about 4 years with no issues

I love the pine pellets. It took a little time for me to get used to the new system of cleaning the pans. I have two kitties and three pans. One pan is a sifter pan. I remove any solids with a doggie poop bag throughout the day then once a day I sift the three pans by pouring them one at a time into the sifting pan and rocking back and forth a few times. It only takes three minutes to clean all of the pans. Sometimes I’ll do this twice a day as it is actually fun. I was using Worlds Best litter for years but suspected that my cat developed Mega Colon from licking the clumping dust from his paws.
Why did I not know about this stuff decades ago. It’s the best! It’s cheap. There is no smell and it’s compostable.
You shouldn't use pine pellets. They have a chemical makeup that could be toxic or irritative to cats. Use hardwood pellets from now on!
I wish I knew this a year ago when I switched. Both of my cats now have tumors on the backs of their legs. Waiting to find out if they are malignant. Only ever used the brand she's using in this video. I'm heartbroken 💔😞

It's the pine oil that's toxic to cats. You have to buy the pine pellets that are KILN DRIED. It cooks the pine oil out making it safe for cats.
there is a difference between wood pellets for heating and wood pellets for bedding.
I’ve been using this bedding for years now but unfortunately I’ve noticed recently it has not been concealing the smell anymore. :(
I've noticed over time, the plastic tub (litterbox itself) absorbs the smell - same with plastic cat dishes and wet catfood. I switched to metal feed bowls no more bowls smelling bad just out of the dish rack. Picture what tomato sauce does to Tupperware in the microwave...stains it... except this is with smells. Try a liner or a new litterbox?
When I have issues with this I wash one (I have multiple) and when it's wet rub baking soda everywhere in side it and let it sit. I usually forget about it all day. It doesn't smell like anything afterwards
