This video takes place on the Ohio Turnpike not far from Toledo, Ohio. The tire exploding sounded like a bomb went off, which scared the living crap out of me. I hope the trucker was safe and able to continue his or her journey.

Just happened to me a week ago as I passed a semi- on FL Turnpike north of Yeehaw Junction. Indeed sounded like a bomb went off. Luckily the tire dislodged right behind me. I was hit with some small debris but was fortunate overall.

I had one like that but was worse. I got behind a refuse/bin truck to exit into the local lanes on my way to work one morning, I was maybe 100 feet behind him going 45-50 mph when apparently its tire blew, for a moment I could hardly see anything as I drove through the debris cloud! I looked in my rear view mirror and traffic behind me was swerving all over to miss running into the carnage.
I convinced myself all was fine and continued to work, where I found damage to by front end when I checked my car. I called the state police to see if they had an incident report so I could track down the truck to make a claim but they were no help. Fortunately my insurance comprehensive coverage ended up taking care of it, with my $100 deductible instead of collision which I had a higher deductible. Still I was stupid not to stop and get my damage covered by the trucks insurance!

I had one happen to me as well, however the blown tire came out almost whole and went right over the car and did not hit me as I floored it due to it going up (split second decision).

And that's exactly why (among other reasons) you should never hang close to the big trucks...keep the safe distance behind or pass as fast as you can. Preferably on the left side when ever possible.
Many times these tire "gators" would fly in the air and hit the cars driving next to it...next time it could be your windshield which may cause you to crash.
My advice is just stay away from semis when ever and as far as possible.
