Damon and Stefan went through much more harder things. Especially Damon having to face his abusive father who beat him and spending 150 searching for her. She played with them, made them vampires and did such horrible things to Damon. I honestly couldn't pity her. So I'm just curious where you're coming from. She's iconic but I never pity her. She was such a bitch. Stefan has faced so much pain but he's still a decent person. So why does she get the free pass to be a pain in the ass all the time.

I’m a Damon / Klaus / Enzo fan through and through. I appreciated Stefan’s character, it had depth and great character arc but I’m more for the others. Stefan I cared for because he cared about freedom. At his best he was a peaceful person trying to protect his loved ones and leave everyone to live in peace. He had his own demons regarding who he was and what he’s done and he’s made more than his fair share of mistakes and by all means was an addict regarding his vampirism. He was, in the end, a man of honor and always tried to right his wrongs long after they happened. Klaus, while an emotionally manipulative psychopath who would kill anyone in his way, when in love - he will do anything necessary to protect the ones he loves and his strategic mind is always 10 steps ahead everyone else and had he not had Hope he would’ve continued living and would have found a way to exorcise himself and all his siblings from the demon inside them. Then he would’ve gone to Caroline and finally taken his rightful place. But since he died for his daughter he will forever be her, “one that got away” and she will always be the one who truly loved “the big bad wolf”. (Regardless of Stefan, losing Klaus broke her). Enzo was incarcerated for so long yet he kept his humanity, his kindness and his loving ways while still being deadly and mischievous, but when he fell for Bonnie she brought him a peace he had never known that was worth dying for. When he wiped Caroline’s tears in the car over Stefan and then went inside and killed Stefan’s “new girlfriend” because Stefan was being spineless and horrible to her and she didn’t deserve it. He values his women, especially the ones he considers to be family. Damon, while cunning and deathly handsome, would and has killed for Elena and made the choice to die a human by her side because SHE wanted it. Damon wins over everyone because he reformed for her, protected her, loved her and cherished what she wanted above all else. He wanted her to have everything despite the cost, who he had to hurt or who he had to kill. When I imagine living back in the day before this modern era of false safety and think these men would have been exemplary husbands, willing to do whatever was necessary to give their loved ones a chance at a good and happy life. That’s the one thing people forget about the “villainous” characters. Like Caroline, most aren’t the villain of our stories. Some of us will love them anyways
