It is obvious that the makers of this move have no understanding of the source material. They simply acquired some IP, and decided to slap the "marvel formula" onto it... some producer said "To hell with the story, give me some quippy oneliners and explosions"
Directed by Eli Roth... until they brought in David Leitch to re-shoot all the action scenes.

By the looks of it, they literally got the world, the guns, the creatures, heck, even claptraps design on point, but when it came down to the characters they were just like "Find me the most 'how do you do fellow teens' actors imaginable for these iconic character roles...

Yeah, it feels like they're really trying to go after the visuals and pull people in... and have zero understanding of, or value for, what truly makes Borderlands Borderlands. The trailer felt "normal", kind of unremarkable. It didn't feel mildly insane or deranged or odd or off the wall. It wasn't smart or nuanced enough. It looks like at its core it's going to be forgettable and boring.

I might need to replay the game... I don't remember Roland being shorter than claptrap and Tiny Tina.
As a fan of the game since 2009, I probably would have done everything completely differently.
Why even make an adaptation in the first place? The games are just fine the way they are. Just like Uncharted and The Last Of Us, there is absolutely no need for a live action adaptation.
It's pg 13 so don't expect anything related to the games, it's a kids movie.

So Roland is like 6 Feet tall and a very serious character. So the casting director thought it would be a great idea to cast a pint size comedian? The casting in this flick is completely jacked.

I played the living hell out of the first game. Still the best to this day in my opinion, though 2 was amazing as well.

Who in their right mind thought that Kevin Hart was a good idea to play Roland? "Yeah, we have a mostly serious no-nonsense soldier character, let's get a comedian to play him!"
In the first game Roland was actually much more of a comedian than in the second game.
Kevin hart's publicist needs to tell him that he can't play any role he wants

Borderlands was my childhood. And this... Is just sad...
They could save this movie with one small tweak:
Pov shot: an unknown traveler approaches a table in a worn down saloon. They approach a table occupied by a clearly drunk Marcus and sit down across from him.
Marcus: ah another traveler looking to hear a story about Vault Hunters, huh? Well, im fresh out! But since you have come such a long way. *Marcus reaches for a bottle of liquor and downs the whole thing at once* ill make one up for you. Dont expect me to get all... most... any of the details right."
From there, have Marcus cut into the story every once in a while with comments about how wrong or off some of the characters seem.
Still can't get over the fact that this movie took so long Lilith aged 30 years later.
And Tannis! There are some weird casting choices.

I came to make this exact comment. I can forgive the bad choices they made for actors playing people. But Clap Trap didn’t need to be voiced by Jack black. Love the guy, but they missed by a wide margin with this.

You've got a 54 year old woman playing a woman in her mid 20s, a short comedian playing an absolute unit of a soldier, and jack black playing a character he doesn't fit at all. Jamie lee curtis as tannis is also silly. This reeks of a "guardians of the galaxy" ripoff that trades on big name star power rather than talent or good writing.

It's the Lord of the Rings thing, man. Peter Jackson and the casting crew of Lord of the Rings intentionally sought out less well known actors who would play "the character" instead of "the actor playing the character". This is just hollywood big-wig shenanigans - getting bankable roles as a safety blanket for their investment.
