I legit thought this was one of their S1 uploads, until I noticed that the cityscape background behind John was the latest one.
I'm non-American so I sometimes just forget when they air their shows.
I actually have Max, but episodes of Last Week Tonight take like a full week to show up maybe because they need to subtitle them or something. Either way, I love getting to see these in full, just as they come out and LEGALLY.
Ain't your friend, pal
Never HBO max!!!
The finnish song didn't win, we placed 19th out of 25 finalists. But we'd rather be legends than winners anyway. Also the short haired singer is a voice actor in finnish version of paw patrol and originally agreed to only do a demo, they were supposed to find another singer by the time of our national selection. It takes giant balls to go from "I'll just do the demo" to "I'll sing live in front of a giant audience in the biggest music festival of Europe" in a matter of months.

Microsoft better be paying Widows 95 Man to appear in their ads. LOL
They couldn't, at least before (it is banned in Eurovision), also Windows95 isn't a MS trademark anymore. That being said, Microsoft has given its ok and full support on their official channel to him, ever since the UMK (first qualification) started. Too bad the dum-dums at Eurovision forced the Windows95Man to censor the windows95 logo, even though it is a discontinued product and has no copyright/trademark issues anymore
people were actually asking if its even ok for them to use microsofts name like that before they qualified but then microsoft finland came with the statement basically saying "go ahead". Like its literally free advertising =D
@@Rosterized Not only that, but EBU doesn't allow trade marks. So it wasn't only about if Windows would be allowing it, but also if he could even use the name in the contest. EBU decided the name can stay since he's been performing as a DJ with the artist name for years. But the branding had to be removed, so the logos were printed with a blurr to the final state clothing and such.
Microsoft Finland has had parties for their staff where Windows95Man had done DJ gigs.
they'll do that to try make people forget about the hideous layouts they can't stop doing
Win95man didn’t actually win in the traditional sense, but in the "they won our hearts" sense they definitely did. Definitely had the most fun on stage. Made me proud to be a Finn.
I looked it up and was disappointed to see how much he "didn't win" 😭😭

@@SongfugelShe may have not even made it into the final. Good song but boring and way too similar to like half the other entries.
@@Songfugel I think the show has evolved into something where winning actually doesn't really matter, it's all about embracing the silliness. USA tried to replicate Eurovision a few years ago but they didn't understand that the geniusness of it all is on how stupid it all is. It's three hours of barely listenable songs each country is forcing the rest to listen. Full of local quirks. And in the end someone wins and gets to host this spectacle next year.
Once in a blue moon someone comes there with a song that survives past the event. Usually they don't, not even if they win.

As a former heroin addict, I can assure you that I would almost certainly be dead if I didn't have easy access to clean needles and other parts of my "kit" regularly thanks to a harm-reduction center. I have also personally saved the lives of two people who had overdosed and stopped breathing since I was given Narcan at that same facility, so that's at least two and likely three lives I can say were save *_directly_* as a result of harm-reduction facilities.
Also, the idea that one would be less-likely to still use without access to clean gear is so absurd to anyone with an ounce of experience being an addict.

I have HBO. But I want to support them to keep posting the full episodes here. That's how important this show is for informing the public about important issues.
Comedians, not journalists, are the heart and soul of our society.
I know what you mean-comedians such as Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, etc. certainly bolster your point-and the context in which you made your statement. But as fun as it is to mock the so-called "journalists" in the mold of Piers Morgan, Tucker Carlson, or any of the talking heads/panelists at Fox (a propaganda network, tbh), it's important to make a distinction and remember the many who've made the ultimate sacrifice trying to bring truth to light with their reporting: Anna Politkovskaya, Jamal Khashoggi, Dalia Marko, etc. Putin infamously has murdered Russian journalists who dare investigate his actions. Add to that list the many more who have died covering war zones. You might not consider them "the heart and soul of our society" because, hey, I'll admit they don't bring as much joy as the entertainers, whom I truly appreciate for what their wit and humor brings into my life, but I cherish a dry but straight, incorruptible, brave journalist doing their job well, too.
Finland has a remarkable talent to find artists with wonderful sarcastic songs and stage shows. Their Eurovision is a gold mine.
As a Swede I always appreciate Finland adding a bit of spice to Eurovision.
Win95Man is nicely balancing the Suomi brand of silent shy introverts. Greetings from Finland. "torille"
This is what hides behind the shell of an introvert.
just like with Käärijä last year! it seems that Finland is finally hatching out of its (denim) shell and showing that being a Finn is not just brooding around and having depression. while a Finn might be reserved and introverted at first, once you get to know them, you'll have a good time :D

Here in Australia, the Liberal party (equivalent to the British Tories) had a policy of turning away asylum seekers arriving by boat and sending them to Nauru for offshore detention. It was cruel and very expensive, costing hundreds of millions of dollars. However, it stopped the boats.

Thank you for the laughs, windows95man is a legend.
How surreal to have a British Prime Minister of Indian ancestry whose way of thinking echoes Reginald Dyer's.
(The character Edward Fox played in "Gandhi," a.k.a. The Butcher of Amritsar.)
They've got great researchers on Last Week Tonight, but all the key criticisms of the Sunak policy don't hold up.
* That it won't work (9:30) - In Australia, it did work. The conservative Liberal party there had a sudden surge of migrants in boats in the 00s, so they made a deal to deport them to another country. The numbers dropped to almost 0 within weeks.
The more left leaning Labor party then dropped the deal, and immediately the boat arrivals returned. Thousands again. Many dead by drowning.
The old policy returned and immediately numbers back to near 0 and hasn't been a significant issue for over a decade as it became bipartisan. (source: BBC "How Australia wrote the 'stop the boats' playbook")
* That it's too expensive - Based on the above, the reply here (8:30) was valid. While per person its expensive, if like Australia the deterrent works, it should go down to near 0 and save millions of dollars and lives from drowning. Additionally, for every refugee that arrives, on average it takes 3 generations for them to not be an economic burden to their new nations (Economic Assimilation of the “Third Generation”: An Intergenerational Mobility Perspective, Sage Journals). So there is a cost to taking refugees (although personally I feel it's more humane to take them, that is the economic reality and the politicians arguing that are not wrong)
* Rwanda not being safe (5:43) - It's actually ranked one of the safest countries in the world.
- 37th safest in the world (one place HIGHER than the UK in 38th) (source: Global Finance Magazine "The aftermath of a global pandemic re-shuffles Global Finance’s ranking of the world’s safest countries.")
- 6th safest for solo travellers (source: "Rwanda the 6th safest country for solo travellers, new survey finds" Euro News)
- Safest country in Africa (source: Statista "Safest countries in Africa 2024")
* Lastly, that they are desperate and fleeing to the UK 'out of necessity' (9:30) - the vast majority come from the middle east and Africa. To get tot he UK, they are passing through many safe nations and regions they could take shelter and file the same refugee claim. But they choose to go to the UK. If they were desperate they would stop off at any one of those other european nations - in fact the UK would be one of the furthest options from both those regions, which is why the UK government are right to have some suspicion.
I'm very much pro-refugees, but Last Week Tonight mislead the facts here.
How surreal to think that the people of the UK should be all cheery and happy with illegals coming to their shores and using their country as an ATM...
@@AZ2PM Wonder why you don't go into details on the criticism of Australia's human rights abuses concerning 'boats'. Or why you suddenly say 'refugees' instead of 'migrants' when you talk about the economic productivity. Or why you insinuate this is the only possible way to prevent people from drowning in the Channel. Or why you simple just leave out the fact that the UK themselves didn't consider Rwanda safe until it got convenient - and funnily enough will force people to stay in Rwanda WHETHER their asylum claim gets accepted or not.
After all someone 'very much pro-refugees' would never deliberately manipulate facts like that right?
Afraid I can't call you out without the comment being banned :(
@@AZ2PM There is literally no way you can say you are pro-refugee and write what you wrote. The Australian policy you reference in its first iteration sent refugees and folks seeking asylum to detention centers they built in other countries like Papua New Guinea and the island of Nauru, detention centers that have since faced international condemnation for their harsh treatment of detainees, many of whom were/are children, and for violations of international law. Furthermore, there have been decreases in boats more recently because of how the Australian navy has intervened and threatened violence against boats coming in or even cases of the government paying boats to turn around - both pieces illegal under international law regarding asylum seekers. Is this what you call “success?” People seeking safety being imprisoned, threatened, or paid off?
There are also flaws with your argument against the show. You name that the show claimed that Rwanda was not safe. The show said that the UK government declared it unsafe and then Sunak’s admin pushed a new policy to declare it a safe haven. How is that the show claiming anything about Rwanda’s level of safety?
Despite you claiming to be pro-refugee, this really feels like you critiquing the show’s research to justify anti-asylee and anti-refugee viewpoints. I’m truly not sure what you are trying to do here with this argument.
If people had listened back then to people asking to stop indian immigration, he wouldn't be in power. Strong argument in favour of stopping islamic refugees entering your lands
