@@brendanrichardson3743 hockey players will bring the trophy back to their home towns a lot of the time and have a public presentation of it. I got to see the cup in person when the capitals won it, a player on the team was born where my dad was born in a small town
Only one Stanley Cup. When you hold it, you're holding the very same trophy that previous champions held and drank out of. There is no other....

@@jessallen7756 do you mean the dates on the cup? Because each time one of the rings of team names is filled, it’s retired and sent to the NHL HOF. I know for a fact the cup on the top dates back well beyond the 1970s.

The Cup no longer gets taller, when the bottom ring fills up with the names of the players/coaches of the most recent 13 championships, the oldest ring is removed and enshrined in the hall of fame. There are 5 primary rings each with 13 teams on them.
The history and traditions that go along with the Cup, are awesome.
And the retired rings are flattened out and displayed in the Hockey Hall of Fame
And it is not just NHL players, the whole tradition is flat out throughout hockey.
I did not know that, but then I've never actually watched a hockey game.

Literally my only problem with it. NBA is too predictable and NFL is a good balance. Stanley cup the best trophy without a doubt tho 💪🏼

Without a doubt. Not only is it huge and carries with it generations of legends on it, but it also the hardest to earn. Both from competition perspective, but also from physical and mental toll required.
A trophy where your name gets engraved onto it. Forever. Traditions that entitle a lap around the ice rink parading and kissing the cup before giving another teammate a turn. Getting a team picture with the cup moments after parading it around. On top of a day with the cup to yourself to do whatever you want with it anywhere in the world. Why is this even a debate?!

I agree. The only time I watched the Stanley Cup Finals when the Dallas Stars won and has watched the Super Bowl my whole life. I got away from the NBA for years at a time, the same with baseball. But I've always loved the fact that in hockey the players that win the Stanley Cup each get to keep the Cup for a few days.

They make new trophies every year for every sport, except the Stanley cup. When you win, you are touching the same trophy as every person who’s name is on it.
Technically there is 3 cups. The current one is from the 70’s.
Here’s how you know it’s the Stanley Cup.
Ask a regular person what the Stanley Cup is and then ask them what the Lombardi Trophy is. My bet is that they’re a lot more likely to know what the Stanley Cup is. As far as Trophies go, it’s just about as iconic as can get.

World Cup is easily the best, this is coming from an American
UCL trophy, a close second behind the FA Cup because of the history and the memories, and the Lombardi carries 3rd place for me.

World Cup. Takes place every 4 years so you only have around 4 or 5 (if you’re lucky) chances to win it.
4 if you’re great at the sport and 5 super lucky but players on average only can make it to 3 max before they get replaced or are a super sub

Listen, i was only football all my life until like 5 or 6 years ago. I love Lombardi, but that Stanley Cup is on another level. Not only is it massive, but there is only one and it gets passed on to the next champion. And if it had every champion on it since it started, it would be like 2 stories tall
Exactly, lifting the same trophy as every other champion is just on another level as lifting a brand new trophy that will end up belonging to your team owner or in a trophy case somewhere.
It does have every name, they just only keep 5 rings at a time because of the shear size issue. Older rings go to the Hall of Fame once a new one is needed.

The Stanley Cup is generally considered the hardest trophy to win. Compound the extremely physical play, many games, and the immense skill required to do well. Also be aware of the history and age of the cup as well. Every recent team to win is engraved into its silver columns. Every season there is a new trophy for football, baseball, and basketball. There is no new Stanley Cup every season, so when you win you can really feel the history in your hands. Hands down the Stanley Cup is better than the Lombardi Trophy!

KBO League in Korea has a LITERAL GIANT SWORD as their trophy. So that wins.

That's not the actual trophy. The sword was given to the team by the owner. The real trophy looks like the MLB piece of metal, but the sword is still dope af since it's a replica of a sword from Lineage - the video game
The Stanley cup is the exact same piece of metal that has been lifted by champions since the 1890s. If another trophy can match that then I will consider it.

No, it's not at all. Cup dwarfs every trophy in every category. Stanley cup actually doubles as a cup. Most soccer players would get injured just lifting it. Any hockey player can play soccer (and very well) don't even think 1% of pro soccer players could even go 3 feet on the ice. Hockey players have blades on their feet, get smashed into the boards, legal to fight, take slapshots to the ankle and still play and so on. Soccer players roll around like babies if someone breaths near them. Cup wins hands down.

Stanley cup stopped growing years ago....they drop a ring when they have to add a new one.....Stanley cup would be way bigger if all the rings from the 19th century were added.
The original Stanley Cup that was created in the 19th century is in the Hockey Hall of Fame now. It stopped getting presented in 1963

Out of all trophies in professional sports, I have to say that the Stanley Cup is the best. It shows its history on the body of the trophy, teams that won the Stanley Cup recently or in the past are etched on the trophy itself. Plus, every player on the Stanley Cup winning team gets to spend individual time with a trophy to celebrate with their families.

You can go to any team stadium who's won the Lombardi trophy and see it right there They make another one every year, when you left Lord Stanley's cup You're touching the same piece of glorious metal that every other hockey champion has held up to that point.

Not true rings come off. The height is capped. The original rings always stay and the current t rings stay.

@@travisfarrell5428 while true, the rings do get displayed at the hockey hall of fame. So even if you were a one year 4th line left winger that has no chance of being inducted, YOU are still immortalized in the hockey hall of fame technically. I think that's pretty cool.
