I will take Gretzky, Bure and Matthews. Those guys were/are not relying on someone putting a pass into their wheelhouse. Ovi and Hull are pretty similar, big clapper from the backdoor and not much of an idea who the guys on their team that play defense are.
@@therapist6328eh, Gretzky whole thing is if you took away every single one of his goals he would still lead the all time scoring record with JUST assists. Which is insane.

You want to see a hard hockey player? look up Gilchrist. He played through a groin injury, in which he had to get needles in his groin every period down the hall, his fellow red wings could hear him screaming 5 locker rooms away. And he played until the meat / muscle seperated from bone in his groin mid play. Thats a hard man.
Don't get me wrong, I hate me some Detroit. But they are not to be underestimated. Yzerman has done this to me my entire life as a Maple Leafs fan. I only love him because he was a big part of the 2002 Olympic Gold team.
As an Oilers fan, I legit can't wait for the regular season to start October 14th and not a literal second sooner! Cannot wait!

When I was a kid, we would use those little plastic sticks to play indoor... floor hockey I guess it would be called. We'd made a ball out of hockey tape and use laundry baskets for nets and play on carpet. WE got pretty crazy with it😂 You could really shoot that tape ball hard, it hurt. Hard to believe that was 30 years ago already

Top 10 things about hockey in no particular order:
1. The hits are unlike any sport. The size and speed at which you make contact is insane.
2. The acoustics. The horn when a goal is scored and the fans going nuts is second to none. And the thunderous sound when a player gets checked into the boards is epic.
3. After committing a penalty you literally get put in time out.
4. The refs for the most part let the players play the game. They allow the players to get physical, talk smack, and throw a fist every now and then with nothing more than a verbal warning thrown their way.
5. Players will get injured such that blood is pouring from their face, they’ll get stitched up, and head right back out on the ice.
6. The rivalries go back a 100 years.
7. The refs literally will let the players fight it out until one of them hits the ice because they’re letting them “get it all out.” And it’s safer to approach them once one of them is on the ice.
8. Center ice brawls between each teams goalie.
9. Lord Stanley’s Cup is the greatest trophy in all of sports.
10. Playoff beards and players playing with unbelievable injuries in the playoffs such as a broken sternum to the point where they have to be helped getting dressed.

**another note worthy fact**
When asked about fighting in the sport, the NHL commissioner said that fighting acts as a thermostat in that it allows players to take their frustration out on each other in a way that prevents more dangerous options. He is saying fighting is safer than what would otherwise happen. That’s awesome!

As a hockey goalie, I've only been in one real fight. Hockey is the greatest game of all time and the fastest game on earth. For years, it was a blue collar league. I went to training camp with pro teams but, the bond on a team is something that's something you can't underestimate.

If you want fights, go to a non-NHL hockey game. My local team is the cincinnati cyclones. I don't even know what league they're in. But let me tell you, it is a GREAT time.
Haha, the further you get from the NHL the closer it gets to MMA. My understanding is ECHL games can turn into absolute bloodbaths. Like wrestling in a gym for 80 people and cutting your face open with a piece of glass level stuff.

My daughter had season tickets on the glass for the Cyclones and loved it. She's since moved to NC.

I feel bad for anyone that didn't know that "Hockey Is Awesome" because they've missed out. Toughest athletes in professional sports. Playing with injuries, getting staples and stitches in between periods and finishing games. Nothing compares. Go Bruins!
I remember watching an oilers and stars playoff game where a player was crosschecked in the mouth and lost several teeth. He got his gums stitched up on the bench so he wouldn't miss a shift. Some of the toughest men on the planet, and yes, GO BRUINS!
With more recognition comes a bigger push to make it corporate! Love the exposure but I worry it’s gonna turn into the NFL as far as calls and fines and new rules. We shall see.

Pat we appreciate you covering hockey and please do it more, but don't spit hockey opinions as if they are facts. Ovechkin is not the greatest scorer ever. Gretzky is more than 1,000 points all time above the next guy and 2nd was his teammate. Crosby being top 3 of all time is questionable at best and more of a recency bias.
So when Ovi breaks Wayne’s goal scoring record, that wouldn’t make him the greatest goal scorer ever? 🤨
And Sid is top 3 on a lot of hockey aficionados’ lists
Crosby is great no doubt, but not top 3 ever. Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr...even guys like Yzerman and Messier. there are a lot to choose from. Oh, and the Red Wings don't suck.

Gretzky was the best but he was also playing against guys with summer jobs. My list is 1. The Great One 2. Super Mario 3. Sid. Orr is 4 as the best defenseman ever. All in their primes, Sid is the most skilled.
Points and scoring are different. Ovi can be the best scorer ever with Wayne being the greatest hockey player ever. Points means scoring and assisting if you really need help with figuring it out
