- SCP 650 is a Euclid Class anomaly also known as Startling Statue.
SCP-650 is a black statue of a stylized humanoid 167cm tall. The statue does not possess hands or facial features.
If the statue is not being observed, it will relocate itself to a point immediately behind whomever is in the containment site and assume a threatening posture.
However, it should be noted that SCP650 has not yet shown any signs of active aggression or hostility. Based on trial responses that varied the amount of time between breaking and re-establishing line-of-sight, its purpose does not seem to be to attack but merely to startle. The reason for this is unknown, and no further research is pending to determine its motives.

Dude, it causes so much trouble in the video game, it's one of the worst SCP to encounter because he CONSTANTLY creeps you out, and makes you panic to get away. He will block doorways even sometimes, cutting your escape off if another SCP appears.

SCP 650 is more interesting to me. Who made it? For what purpose? Is it actually aware? It's Euclid, which implies it has some observable intelligence. Why does it choose to use its powers merely to startle? 173 seems to act out of malicious hatred, and weeping angels are predatory, but what motivates 650 to behave how it does?

When the statue was posing casually, that may have been because everyone was expecting him to pull the same prank, so he did that to mess with everyone, as for the scared position, that may have been because he was upset that he couldn't go behind him.

I think the reason it ends up scaring you is because it isn't a threat. You ignore it's existence because it isn't a threat and while you are keeping an eye out for the others it just does it's thing.

I’d like to think that this SCP likes to startle people because maybe its very sentient (one example it going into a fetal position when it couldn’t find a way to scare that one agent) and finds the reactions amusing of people getting scared by it or it could possibly feed off of strong emotions kind of like the monsters in monster’s inc. either way I think this guy is super cool

@@Omiganox I don't know... The fact that it evoked a guilt response in the final researcher seems--at least to me--to suggest that it wants to create some kind of negative emotion in its victims. For what reason, I don't know. Amusement; sustenance; maybe even to prevent some kind of cosmic disaster in a way that would only make sense in the SCP universe. Either way, I feel like it does it on purpose to make people feel negative emotions.

My theory about this SCP is that it is sentient and also possibly possesses the memetic ability to magnify whatever feelings it creates in other people. Fear is the most common, as this is probably the easiest emotion for it to create in people (since it can only move when unobserved, is completely silent, and can't physically manipulate anything), but it was also able to magnify the guilt it created in the last subject. Maybe it does these things because it feeds off emotions. It may also be able to read the minds of people to determine what it could do to get the biggest reaction out of them; this would explain why it's behaviour got more unpredictable over time as the Foundation tested on it more and the researchers wised-up to its usual trick of appearing behind people. If this is true, then this SCP could possibly be considered an Antimeme.

The writer of this SCP is either dealing with hallucinations while being very well-adjusted to them or they are exceptionally creative. Shadows are often like this to me until I realize it's a perception glitch.

What would happen if 173 & 650 shared the same room? Would they feel that they’re both being watched? Or would the fact they both don’t have actual faces trigger their movements to “attack” the other? Would 173 snap 650’s neck, even though 650 is basically just a posable mannequin, or would 650 get the drop on 173, constantly standing behind it so it won’t get its neck snapped? Or would they both just be chasing each other trying to get behind the other until someone else finally looks at them? lol

Notice how when the researchers knew what it did and expected it to be behind them, it wasn't. I think 650 can read the mind of its targets and determine what the least likely place they expect it to be is and then do that. And with the other extreme emotions they felt after, it might WANT those extreme emotions either as some kind of sustenance or it just enjoys reactions and scaring is just the easiest one. Tbf. its not like the concept of "i only move, when I am not being watched" is something new. Sometimes is a whole "species" that is based on this concept, sometimes its just an easter egg, where you look away and some statue turns your head towards you, while you look away or probably one of the most well known examples: quantum physics. Double slit experiment. Particles do weird shit, when not being observed. And we know about that since the late 20s.

Honestly, put this guy in a Halloween attraction or escape room or other horror-themed thing and I promise you he'll be the happiest one there. Honestly, I get it.
Not all of the researchers are young and in good health. Some of the elders or those with already existing heart issues might just wind up dying to a heart attack when they turn around to spot this one.
I would hope that researchers with heart conditions wouldn't be assigned to Site 19

More than one statue that's capable of moving when it isn't observed. Very likely this was made by the same creator of SCP-173. The question, then, is whether SCP-650 is considered a more successful follow-up to its murderous predecessor, or an earlier "failure" that the creator would learn from to make it's follow up more lethal.
Maybe an easy way to determine how it moves is to attach a camera onto its head. This will show how it moves and if it doesn’t move, it will either show that cameras just don’t work on it and it just glitches them out or cameras can keep it dormant.
I remember seeing this scp for the first time in SCP Containment Breach Unity Remake. Not only it was startling, it was absolutely terrifying

It must have some form of telepathic ability, as it attempted to unsettle the agents who already knew of its behaviour rather than trying a potentially ineffective scare. It would also explain how Agent Riley felt watched while it was turned away and Agent Cho inexplicably felt the statue was afraid, thought about trying to comfort it, and felt guilty for supposedly "doing something wrong". I mean obviously the fetal position is a good indication of fear but to point of wanting to comfort an anomalous entity known for purposefully scaring people? Probably not.

this scp was one of the ones used in an attempt to contain the black moon. It was, however, not dangerous enough, and the idea was scrapped. (That is also how 173 was made as well) This idea, of course, failed to contain the black moon in the end.

For the 650 situation, it’s not trying to scare except for when it isn’t having trouble with it. It chooses the best hand it can play for eliciting a response depending on the person.
The reason it isn’t hostile is because it means it doesn’t have the chance of drawing a lot.
Like having the best tasting sauce in the world, but only getting one drop on your tongue before getting it washed off. You’d rather enjoy it than just have a drop, so it decides the more lasting method.
I think this scp is just trying to get a reaction out of people to entertain itself. I wonder what happens when it gets a fight instead of flight reaction though.

Theory: The statue moves based on its mood. Mood 1 is scaring. It wants to scare people, maybe as it may have been part of an incident that led to it's transformation into SCP. Maybe used at a party to scare someone changed it. Mood 2 is mimic mood. The SCP mimics the attitude of the victim. For example, first guy was more likely to lie on bunk, the woman was petit or had a good figure, hence SCP was sitting on chair. Mood 3 is fear, or sadness. If unable to do it's ability, it is both fearful and sad that it cannot do what it wants to do. Another theory is, it has an ability to project feelings into people, whether it's fear or apologetic, as either what it would be what normally happen or what itself feels.

In the game, it is VERY unsettling to be followed by 650 for sure. Even though you know it's going to follow you, it gets in the way constantly, and always leaps behind you, it never ceases to startle you even if you see it coming. Its quite the strong SCP because of the psychological effect it has. Combined with other SCP it can actually cause you to fumble and die if it startles you at the right time

I wonder....when a security member watches though the camera, they must remain focused on the statue. Let's say that you could SEE the scp but wasn't "paying attention" as in daydreaming or mentally distracted, would it still move? Which i imagine you wouldn't be working at the Foundation if you have such a mindset around potentially dangerous entities. Probably a question more for 173. Can you have 173 in your line of sight but if you start daydreaming and lose you visual awareness, even though you are "looking" at it, you're not paying attention. Would it still attack? Kinda feel like it would
