    I'm American and I live in Italy. The Italians have us beat on safety, health, environmental awareness and racism is basically not even a thing. I pay $0.00 to go to one of the best universities in Europe. Americans have Italians beat at making money.

      +Tia Taylor Hi, I'm Italian and my dream is to go abroad to study because currently Italy has nothing left to give to us young. I do not agree on the fact of racism because my mother is Indian and my father Italian and I found cases of racism, now I do not know if they can be compared to those found in America because there have never been but isn't true that racism is basically not even a thing because there is.

      I don't know, I've been living here for over a year and I've never felt victimized by my race, where as in America it's a constant, everyday thing. Yea italians have problems with people who aren't italian, sure i've been treated differently at times because I'm american and I see how Italians regaurd foreign migrants, but I don't think it's an inherent race thing. That's just my opinion.

    I was born in Guyana and moved to Canada 5 years ago. I visited Brooklyn,New York for the first time last winter and I got stranded and I guess people thought I was homeless and walked past me when I kept asking for help but I find when I'm lost downtown Toronto no matter how busy someone is they always stop to give directions but I'm not saying one place is more polite than the other but in New York is everyone is always very busy compared to Scarborough. That hits the point that you made about the hustle, it's very real.

    This is my own personal experience which is limited to 4 major cities in 2 countries in a 6 min video. USA dominates in sports, entertainment and sciences and is overall the land of opportunity to live the "American Dream" which appeals to the hustlers and dreamers. This is the land of opportunity both of people and corporations alike. Canada has a glass ceiling so if you're too ambitious you may hit that. I love Canada for the foundation it gave me and I love USA for the opportunity it allows for my creativity.

      Shameless Maya I definitely agree with everything that you voiced in this video. Growing up in my family it was really every man for themselves. That annoys me because i feel like you instill selfishness into ones brain subconsciously. Families are segregated a lot here. Like no one sit down to enjoy meals together anymore. SO SHAMEFUL....

      Shameless Maya the glass ceiling may be a misconception (but you're right about arts). As far as science and technology goes.. we're seeing a brain drain. When it comes to sports that can be a bit misleading as we do have talented sports men and women her, it's just that we have a much smaller pool (population) to work with. Per capita we're doing well though.

    I cannot wait to transition to the Canadian life and culture. Everything Canada does I support especially their education system. I told my friends who weren't able to go on the trip, after visiting Montreal, that if I were to bring any child into this world or raise any child already here on this planet, that they would be going to Canadian school. After the EXTREMELY poor( not as in funds poor, but as in priorities, mentalities) school system I went through I would NEVER want any of my children to go through that. I'm only 17 but I'm thinking ahead, and definitely thinking about what kind of life would be best for them, and it isn't a life here in the states.

So why the fuck are you proud to be one? Are you proud that your country is in debt about 17.8 trillion dollars? Are you proud that the US poverty rate 14.9%? Are you proud that the murder rate is 6.2 (16, 000) per 100, 000 people? Are you proud of the obesity rate? I bet you are also proud of your candidates for president. They seem to be the real cream of the crop.

    Im from Panama. I still don't understand why public schools in the USA don't wear uniforms? Some one told me kids need to express themselves by clothes. I said kids can express themselves before or after school. Wearing uniforms is way cheaper.

    • @danicoleb5394
      @danicoleb5394 9 років тому +1

      Wearing uniforms in the U.S. is not worth the money they charge us. You could buy a full outfit and it'll barely last you a year coupled with the fact that each time you grow that's more money for you to shell out. Some retail stores have started selling basic khakis and polos so that people who can't afford the official uniform could at least look like they're satisfying the dress code but most schools like my middle school had custom designs and colors and made it impossible to replicate for a cheaper price & better quality. I rather us wear our own clothes especially in the elementary-middle school grade levels. High school is only four years and that's doable since you don't grow as much as you do in the younger grades.

    I think it's hard because you're experience of the US is completely different than that of most Americans. Most Americans don't live in major cities but in smaller towns and cities and there experience with family and money and hustle are completely different than LA and New York, which are probably the two US cities most famous for their hustle mentalities.

    • @agirlhasnoname1422

      A small town still doesn't change the price of tuition, or health care. Here in Canada, u get sick, u go to a hospital, clinic, or doctor, no worries. We arent thinking, 'I might have to mortgage my house, if someone in my family gets cancer'. God forbid. I'm sorry that Americans have to go through this b.s. No one should have to worry about their health, over their home.

      Joyce Lee Yea I just thought of that. Everyone here has a 50/50 mentality towards gun laws. But I live in Winnipeg, known for its slurpees and crime rates. Although our crime rates have been dropping I've noticed one thing; I have lived all over my city, in the rougher areas and calm areas, but not once have I or any of my friends/family heard a gunshot. Not only that but when you do hear the word "shooting" people are in shock and everyone in the city finds out... Because it rarely happens and when it does it's normally between two gang members. People here rob with bare fists (I know that from experience), and rather smash car windows for change than rob a store.

    The US has us (Canadians) beat when it comes to cell phone costs. Canadian carriers charge a fortune for data! Unless you have a corporate plan, unlimited phone data is virtually unheard of ... either that or you have to spend hundreds of dollars a month. In terms of things that really matter though (safety, health care, education, general standard of living), Canada surpasses the US.

      Yeah, I've definitely heard from American friends and family that the plans can vary amongst providers. Americans are still better off though - I pay $85 a month for 2 gigs, and I had to fight with my provider (Telus) so hard to get that! I had to speak to 3 different levels of management for over an hour on the phone to get them to give it to me at that price. It's so ridiculous here!

    As a Canadian who's been living all over America for the last 8 years, the thing that annoys me the most in the US is people driving slowly in the left lane, and don't move over. Canadians are usually so good about using it as the passing lane, and the passing lane only. Otherwise, the food, shopping, museums, landmarks, universities (if you have the money) win in America.

  • @MsAngelaCrystal

    Hey Ms. Shameless, you've only lived in American cities that hustle hard. In my experience there are places in the midwest, south and suburban areas of most states that are more family/community/group oriented. Another good thing that I will say about America having lived in Detroit and been to Canada many times is that in America there are a lot more opportunities to make money in whatever field you choose. I have known a lot of Canadians who travel to the states for work and opportunity.

      +PaddySnuffles Honestly, Blue states in America have universal healthcare, exceptional education/school districts, gun safety laws/gun restrictions and all that stuff too, but with the added benefit of having an environment in which to succeed in the sciences, business, the arts etc. (not to mention a diverse and beautiful landscape!) It's really just the red states that are backwards. Both countries are great places to live, but you just have to look at the parts of the countries that suit you best :)

    • @PaddySnuffles
      @PaddySnuffles 8 років тому +2

      Andy Blaszkiewicz-DiBacco Oh, I believe you. But since she's referring to the countries as a whole rather than an area, the red states affect the end result of the comparison. I'm from the Canadian equivalent of Texas, and despite being a _super_ conservative province stuff like open carry, stand your ground, or removing universal healthcare would never be acceptable. I don't mean to say that the US is horrid - just that, overall, Canada's safer and more educated. Of course there's areas of the US that are great! If there weren't Bernie wouldn't be a senator. ;)

    • @dalevlog
      @dalevlog 8 років тому

      PaddySnuffles are you in Alberta by any chance? lol. It is true that our educational system in the primary and secondary school system is of higher standard than the US, but the US does have some really high quality post-secondary institutions, it's sad how ademics in Canada are preferably hired if they went to an american university for their PhD

    • @PaddySnuffles
      @PaddySnuffles 8 років тому

      Yep, I'm from AB (by way of Brazil originally).
      The education thing is sadly true for a lot of countries despite the US post-secondary institutions being no better or worse than those in other countries. It's why so many people who have phds in their home countries end up being cabbies and stuff when they move to the US (and a lot of countries - such as Brazil - participate in the same discrimination, unfortunately). It's unfair all around, I'd say. :/

    The Caribbean once had the best education system. Esp Guyana (South America) Guyanese kids would migrate and literally eat up their syllabuses. The work is not that hard. And I'm sure its still the same way. We never get passed to another class when our grades aren't that well. Its a strict system. Access to proper universities is the only drawback. There is always a Guyanese person excelling somewhere abroad.

    I am an Bosnian-American living in USA. I also lived in Germany, Sweden, Bosnia and Austria and even though these countries have some pros compared to America, they also have a lot of cons. Major difference is quality of life. Now what is quality of life? Assuming you're a somewhat smart person and not 200% in debt, America is the place to be. Whether you want to work your way up to be a millionaire and live like a king, or just enjoy all aspects of life as a middle class citizen, it's all up to you. If you're into traveling and exploring pretty much every climate zone and geographical points of interest, America it is. If you're into big cities or just small towns, America has more to offer. You like diversity and trying out food from every culture on the planet? America scores there too. You can set up your life the way you want it, there are so many possibilities to be happy and enjoy it. Can't say the same for many other countries. United States has it all, you just gotta know how to find, whether is real sugar soda or the special something you enjoyed so much elsewhere outside America. The country has its problems, but so do all other countries. None of them are perfect, but general quality of life and easy access to everything you may want or need, America is the place to be. That's exactly why so many people fight for that green card and American way of life. It's a melting pot nation so if you as a foreigner manage to get the language right, you have endless opportunities.

    Two things she didn't mention that I've noticed about Canada is the multicultural and diverse demographics. It doesn't appear to be as much racism and/or racial issues because of it. This may also factor into why America's education system isn't up to par. This country operates a lot in terms of money, status, and race which is done to keep certain demographics inferior to others. Canadians also appear to be more well-traveled. It's almost nothing for them to get on a plane and go to Jamaica, Europe, Africa, etc., etc., while in America, at least for most, it's a big deal to take a trip outside the country. It involves more saving and planning. A trip like that is thought of as a privilege or something extraordinary that only happens when people have money or save for year/s. In Canada it seems to be a way of life. I do like those aspects of Canada vs. America.
    I will say, it's evident there are many things Canadians look up to regarding America, but sometimes don't admit. There's a pride that comes from either side when people speak of their birth places and countries.
    I think the lack of family unison that she feels is probably due to the fact that she lives or lived in hustle and bustle areas where she doesn't have much family. If you go to other states that are less about trying to "make it" in highly-competitive, billion dollar industries that are designed for only a few to "succeed" and are very cut-throat, there is a greater sense of family and support. However, I do feel in America, we see our coworkers more than we see our family members. I think about that quite often and it's very sad and backwards when you think about it. It's my goal to change that aspect in my life.

    As a tourist I generally find retail costs more in Canada (Walmart, Target, Forever 21 H&M, etc) than it does in the US but i understand why. Canadians say "ey" or "a" all the time and "guy".
    As a Trini visiting both countries from time to time, these are the things I've noticed:
    - I've seen more Asian people and communities in Canada than in the US
    - I've noticed hella more interracial couples, particularly with black men of Caribbean descent with Asian women, black/caucasian, etc.
    - Toronto is generally cleaner than Manhattan
    - Nightclubs close early, like 1am or 2am?
    - Transportation getting in and out of Toronto not that great, compared to NYC
    - For international students, Canadian tuition costs more. In the US we pay double, but in Canada we pay triple what a legal resident or citizen pays
    - Canadian Customs Officers asks more questions than the US (except if traveling thru Miami)
    - In Trinidad, the visitor visa application process in terms of documents is more exhaustive than the US, however the process itself is better than the US, cuz the US make us wait in line outside (not for too long tho) then we're called inside in groups.
    That being said I've only been to a few US states and only 3 provinces in Canada but I love them both.

    The quality of healthcare you will receive here in the US is by far the best in the world. Free healthcare means your basically going to sacrifice the quality. Doctors have no reason for being competitive so they are very relaxed about the quality of healthcare they give you. Don't be fooled by what you hear not all health care in Canada is free. Plus along with the decrease in quality of the healthcare you will be waiting a really long time before you receive the care you are needing. Often times you are put on a waiting list. So like most things in life that come free you sacrifice the quality and the response to your specific emergency.. Not so perfect now huh?

      I did a report on this in my first year of med school. The facts are out there if you do your research. Average American healthcare is far better then any other healthcare in the world. No healthcare is free you pay higher taxes if you live in a country where healthcare is "supposedly free". Education and healthcare are statistically better in the US then in any other country. Please do your research before you get on here looking like an idiot.

    • @HamMax444
      @HamMax444 9 років тому +2

      Excellent healthcare is never limited to one demographic. If you have insurance or if you don't have insurance in the US you will receive good healthcare. It is against the law for a Doctor to deny a person in need of care. No doctor will risk losing their license by providing poor healthcare. That makes no sense. Thats why America is ranked at the top of the list when it comes to education and healthcare.

Yes, I know you have your health card but our health care while not government run, is so much better than Canada. Canada rations it's health care especially to the very old people ... they just give them some pain medicine instead of expensive surgery.

It's typically considered rude not to answer. Culture is strange

    Shameless Maya I think your video has many flaws when comparing Canada vs. USA. This video paints a romanticized view of Canada that's not helpful to your diverse audience. Your video is just as bad as Mimi Ikonn's video comparing Toronto, Canada to London, England. Especially when most of your Canadian experiences are from one of Canada's major cities Toronto. Everyone knows that Toronto is "okay" because of the diversity and its proximity to the US boarder shared with New York. However, Canada has issues just like the United States. I have heard of racism stories in Toronto as well. There isn't a perfect country out there. Every country has issues.
    Yesterday, July 27, 2015, I read a post on Clutch Magazine's website about a mural dedicated to Sandra Bland in Ottawa, Canada that was badly defaced within hours of being completed. Also, the August 2015 issue of ESSENCE magazine features a woman from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada where racism is rapid. She said this area is considered "the deep South of Canada". This woman has lived in the area her entire life. Furthermore, I have read stories of the Eskimo populations of Northern Canada facing challenges living in the country as well. These are just a few of the recent stories available online highlighting issues in Canada.
    Again, no country is perfect. I think its disturbing you couldn't find anything positive to say about the USA. Especially since you moved to the United States. No one forced you to come to the USA. The fact that you are not living in Canada and trying to "live your dreams" here in America speaks volumes. Why not live out your dreams in Canada? Furthermore, you have used this US based platform (UA-cam) to catapult your career, pay your bills and open opportunities.
    When making any type of comparison videos, you should either provide an accurate picture of both the pros and cons for each subject or don't make the video at all. This video and your LA vs. NYC video fail to provide accurate comparisons. In general, these comparison videos are becoming pointless on UA-cam.

    • @alexandriawilson416
      @alexandriawilson416 9 років тому +17

      At the beginning she said the video would be very broad. Something like race relations would take a long time to discuss, considering historical facts and current events. I think Maya did a good job just breaking down the basics.

    • @CarleyMacIntyre
      @CarleyMacIntyre 9 років тому +15

      UrbanLateNights if you noticed.. she said she was sharing comparisons based on her own views and experiences from living in both countries. She never said Canada was perfect. Instead of going around to videos and trying to find the flaws in other peoples' hard work and content, try not being so negative and maybe just keep your comments to yourself if you don't like the video. Having so much negativity must get exhausting.

    • @luvinmysailor
      @luvinmysailor 9 років тому +5

      I agree with you! it's the first video of hers I have to thumbs down.When I saw the title,I knew it wouldn't be a good idea. It can be seen as offensive to some.(not to me) Her doing this video is like me comparing the U.S. to Brazil (stayed there for a time). Canada has fewer people than the U.S. and that plays a huge part & not to mention all the different cultures that migrate here.Sorry Maya but this video concept is a no go for someone who doesn't like confrontation.

    • @UrbanLateNights
      @UrbanLateNights 9 років тому +9

      ***** Please note that I am not "spreading negativity" with my commentary on Maya's video. I discussed issues in my commentary that are simply facts. Race relations is a real issue for many people. The stories I mentioned are real and not fabricated.
      Unfortunately, there are too many people these days who are placing popular UA-camrs on a pedestal. It has gotten to the point where some people believe everything their favorite UA-camrs says is "correct". Some viewers never think for themselves. Have you notice all the commentary on this video of people saying "I want to move to Canada" just based on what Maya mentioned in the video? These people didn't even take the time to question Maya's statements.
      Also, I live in California and have family in NYC. The LA vs. NYC video was filled with the general stereotypes people have of Californians that sound ignorant.
      Plus, in the "Resume Refresh" video, Maya is encouraging her viewers to use outdated resume templates with objectionable resume practices. Furthermore, these templates contain damaging information that could open one up the racial, sex and age discrimination when applying for a job. Also, these templates can guarantee that someone doesn't get the job. However, no one pointed that out in the video or even questioned the validity of her video content. I was going to say something on that video, but, people like yourself, always come out to "defend" your favorite UA-camr! even when the opposing commentary is valid.
      Clearly, based on your comment, UA-cam has got to a point where anyone with an opposing opinion is seen as being a "being a hater" and "showing no love" for the UA-camr in question. This is sad. Just as you are entitled to have a "Yes, I agree! Thumbs up everything for Maya! I love her! mentality", I have the right to question anything on a public platform that is questionable and potentially damaging to viewers.

      UrbanLateNights okay. I understand where you are coming from. People do need to question what they are reading and watching. But in this video, she never said it was anything more than her opinion. I find that if you want to inform people, you need to do it in a respectful way. Not in a way that puts anyone else down. I find that your comments come across as attacks even though I am sure you only meant to inform. Just something to think about.

And higher education was sooo much more expensive in US. And less open to world differences. My standard of life was much better in CA. Again, this is just MY experience. The States seemed cheaper to live in, but you're nickel and dimed to death. There are advantages & disadvantages to both countries. "Better", being in the eye of the beholder.
    I love the fact that I've had the opportunity to live in both countries and that I was able to travel thru Europe. Many never leave their own backyards. And it shows.
