  • Are you ready for healthy low sugar smoothies (that still taste amazing!). Sugar can easily creep up in smoothie recipes, but today we're keeping it in check with these 5 low sugar recipes and some sneaky vegetables.
    While not overly sweet, these smoothies are still fruity and have 15 grams of sugar or less per serving. When it comes to healthy smoothies (to enjoy for breakfast or any time of day), these are the ones to have on regular rotation!

    My new favorite smoothie - and one that is getting me excited for Fall - is a pumpkin pie smoothie! I blend together a cup of unsweetened almond milk, 1/2 cup of pure pumpkin puree, a scoop of my favorite vanilla whey protein powder (adds protein of course and a little sweetness), a tsp of vanilla and some ground cinnamon (or any fall spice you want) - it's low in sugar and rich in taste and goodness!

      @Frank Landaverde It is a matter of balance. Eating too much of anything is bad. Drinking too much water is bad because you lose all of your nutrients when you drink too much water. However, fruit is bad for diabetics or people who need to maintain their diet due to underlying diseases. Complex sugars and simple sugars affect your blood glucose level the same way. That is why diabetics cannot eat a ton of bananas. Both types of sugar can be found in fruits or processed food such as a Sneaker Bar. Eating too much sugar has always been bad. Fruit has its benefits, but it has sugar. However, eating fruit is better than eating a sneaker bar because there are nutrients found in the fruit that your body can utilized while eating a sneaker bar has no nutritional value. The about of sugar found in a Sneaker bar is ~30 grams of sugar vs a (medium ripe) banana has ~14 grams of sugar. Also, the Sneaker bar is processed with so many chemicals and indirect chemicals. So too much of sugar has always been bad, it is a matter of a better substitute. We all know that eating vegetable is better than eating fruit. It is not to say don't eat fruit, but eat it in moderation just like everything else.

    Very interesting combinations! I need to try them all. Love the idea for frozen veggies, adding veggies wherever we can is always a plus nutrition-wise.
    I used to make a smoothie with a couple of handfuls of kale & a cup of frozen blueberries. It's been a while, but I believe I used almond milk and sometimes yogurt, and a bit of cinnamon. You truly cannot taste the kale!
    Hoping you will be doing another Vitamix giveaway this year. This fellow Virgo - September 18 - could use one for sure!

    Thanks for the ideas on zucchini prep! I don't have much of a sweet tooth so it's nice to see ways to get a little less sugar in my smoothies. A favorite of mine is spiced butternut squash with pecans and milk - I had leftover custard made with eggs so it's a complete breakfast without enough sugar to taste like a dessert.

    I have made three of these and they have been great! Game changers for me in my quest to eat healthier. I have a prescription from my Dr for a probiotic scoop and it has worked perfectly with these smoothies. My goal will be to try to add the cauliflower next.

    Love this video! I love smoothies but have always been timid to make them often because they’re high in sugar (albeit natural sugar, still too much to include in my regular diet).
    I love the tips of the frozen veggies as opposed to the banana! Can’t wait to try it!

    I love your channel and I make smoothies a lot also I would love a vitamix. I’m a real foodie and went through breast cancer two years ago. Trying to eat more veggies than I already did and getting lots of Dr Axe protein and bone broth as well as the collagen you have in my smoothies. Thanks for the fresh ideas!!!

    Finally made the green smoothie and was so pleasently surprised by the flavor. I was a bit worried about the flavor, but it is quite neutral and very refreshing. I did peel the cucumbers though. Great recipes

    Love these! My go to low sugar smoothie is: water, two handfuls of spinach, an inch of ginger, 1/2 cup frozen blueberries and a half a frozen banana. Makes enough for two!

    I am so glad to have happened across your UA-cam channel. I am allergic to seafood and fish and am lactose and gluten intolerant.     This was exactly the recipes I wanted! I love the products too. I use the glasslock set all the time and can't wait to try those silicone bags because I have had problems trying to freeze my own food. I think this will help with that and with the waste.     Hi- Just bought a vitamix and so far worth every penny. Low sugar is the key to a healthy smoothie and your video shows you also don't have to give up on taste either. Nice tips on how to freeze vegetables. Keep making videos and thanks for all the info you share

    Loved this video! I have such a love-hate relationship with smoothies though, because I have a sensitivity to both spinach AND bananas (I know. It's weird. And it makes it very difficult to eat smoothies). If anyone here has the same struggles as me, I always substitute a banana for avocado. It thickens up the smoothies much like bananas do, but you can barely taste it! Also, I'm pretty sure kale would work as a spinach substitute as well. Just a little fun fact for any peeps with sensitive tummies.

      Lauren Smith I can relate! Unfortunately I have trouble with bananas AND avocados! It’s the worst...I believe they’re supposedly both linked with latex allergies or ragweed (I can’t remember), but I’m glad she does make banana free smoothies at all! So many places have bananas in EVERY recipe!! The pineapple coconut is calling my name!

    What I like to do is to freeze coconut milk or yoghurt in ice cubes and use those to keep the smoothie cool. It also gives it somewhat of a frappé-texture, which I personally like a lot. When you do that and add in some raw unsweetend chocolate powder and instant espresso powder it makes a nice sort of moccha-frappé-smoothie.

    Thanks for these, Lisa! For frozen cauliflower, I think I'll try organic cauliflower rice which you can get frozen at Trader Joes (and probably other places). Or frozen cauliflower florets. I need to save time standing in the kitchen ( leg problems).

    Thank you very much for taking the time to put together this informative and well-designed presentation on smoothies. Your demonstrations are very clear and easy to follow. I have an allergy to bananas (a tragedy of the highest order, given how wonderful banana bread is), and this is the first time I have seen alternatives to banana that actually result in a high-quality end product.

    Thanks for sharing these with us. I would never of thought about adding cucumber or cauliflower into my smoothies but I always have left overs from my garden. Will be trying these out. Especially as the kids won’t know there is veges in there lol. Would love to win the 🤞🏼.

    Great video , never thought of using cauliflower or zucchini in a smoothie. Have to give it a try! On another note I tried your smoked salmon avocado cucumber bites, they well great. Are there any other lunch ideas for how to use the smoked salmon?

    I cannot wait to try some of these! I love the idea of adding zucchini. It's a great way to add bulk without adding more sugar. The Vitamix seems to make the smoothies so smooth and creamy. Fingers crossed and Happy Birthday!

    Great ideas, it’s easy to forget about the sugar levels when throwing in bananas, pineapples, mangos etc, or is this just me 😂😳 will definitely be trying the zucchini (corgette here in the uk)

    Love the video! Although I have never tried a smoothie, a vita mixer would be the perfect way to start! I have quit smoking and with that came a weight gain but I am trying to eat healthier to get the weight off.... congrats to whoever wins and Happy Birthday!!,

    You have some really great recipes here. This week I will pick up some ingredients and maybe experiment with some dragon fruit. I never thought of using cauliflower in a smoothie but it makes sense to thicken the texture and knock out the excess sugar of ordinarily using something such as a banana. Sugar is great, I still bake the occasional batch of cookies, but I no longer have the sweet tooth of my younger years and the health benefits of limiting it are also an obvious bonus. Also, early happy birthday!

      Yes, cauliflower is great and I'm right there with you on sugar as we get older. I ate tons of dragon fruit when I lived in Bali for 2 months - love that! Thanks for the birthday wishes as well! :) x

    Thanks so much for suggesting the zucchini in place of bananas. I have pcos and am really trying to dial back my sugar and carbs. I love the banana flavor in my smoothie so I put in some banana extract with the zucchini and lots of ice. So glad I saw this video-thanks for sharing!

    Oh my gosh, I'm so excited to have some low sugar options!! Is using Chia powder any less healthy than using the seeds? I'm not always a fan of those little seeds in my teeth!       Smoothie make it way to easy to eat a lot of fruit and with it sugar in a very short time, even without adding sweeteners. It is still a bit better than drinking juice where the sugar is not buffered in the slightest, but mixing too gets the sugar faster into the bloodstream, as if you would eat the fruit whole . . . People with autoimmune or other inflamatory issues realy should be mindful with them for both fructose and insulin can be harmful in that case. Fat, protein and fiber all help to slow the sugar absorbtion and lesen the fallout.

    Great video! I like to make my low carb smoothies in a batch but with the avocados they start to go rancid after a day or two in the refrigerator. Can you recommend the best way to store these in freezer so I can just grab them and go?

    I usually mix frozen berries, water, one tablespoon of unsweetened yogurt and one tablespoon of honey, but these recipes look amazing, definitely gonna try them :)

      And those aren't bad at all. It's when you add a whole banana with a whole mango where the sugar levels really shoot up (even though I love that smoothie - ha!). ;)

    Smoothies sound delicious! However, whenever I make a 1 serving smoothie, not everything grinds. I often get pieces of spinach leaves or blueberry peelings, sometimes even chunks of banana. I have a Vitamix from Costco. I usually blend at the highest speed, starting out low and gradually increasing. How long would a typical blend take? What could be the problem? Aren’t smoothies supposed to be smooth?

      Your smoothies should come out smooth using a Vitamix, but there always can be little bits leftover from fruits and vegetables. I would maybe suggest to blend it a little longer :)
