Thanks for the review. What is the portable monitor you're using in the beginning, and do you recommend them? Looking for a portable monitor especially for one of these types of gaming consoles, but I have zero experience with them. Thanks!
Very welcome Jackie, thank you for watching! I've had that monitor almost a year, it's been great. Here's my review video on it, if interested: ua-cam.com/video/zZVxXA_eCdQ/v-deo.html . There is a link to it in the video description. I personally like this monitor, it has been reliable and I've used it in a number of videos while connected to my recording equipment. You may be able to find a better price on a different monitor, so definitely shop around. But, if I hadn't received this one for review and needed one, I'd buy it.
Just got this. But I feel like an idiot. I can't grasp the controller buttons. Every time I think I'm selecting something, I'm not, and vice versa, then I go into a game by accident and can't figure out how to get back to the main screen. Help!
To get back to the main screen, press SELECT+START at the same time. The SELECT key is your "HotKey", pressing that button along with another can perform some function like save/loading game states, exiting a game, etc.
Make sure you have a backup image before doing this, but you likely need to expand the partition to make use of the extra space: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Expand_a_Partition Instructions for backup/restore are also on that page.
@@WagnersTechTalk thats the problem I don't have a backup image because computer says not enough space even though hard drive shows 300+ gb of free space dang so I can't create a backup of the super console x cube sd card dang
You plug it directly into a TV/Monitor. Id recommend making a backup copy of the microSD card before using it as the card that ships with it isn't very reliable (here's how: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Backup_Clone_a_Drive ).
need desperate help. Had to reboot the system, because it froze, but it would still not work fine. I pressed factory reset,to see if it helps and found out I have to configerate the controller. The problem I have now that it would not let me go into the main system settings, whatever key on the controller I use.Start and select are not working. No clue how to open up any menu.
Did you make a backup of the card as shown at 3:11 ? If so, I'd recommend restoring it to a new microSD card (as mentioned, the cards that come with it are not very reliable/cheap), I have some instructions here for how to restore from a backup : wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Restore_the_Backup .
@@WagnersTechTalk I was stupid enough and did forget about it. Is there anything else I can do, probably with a differet controller or is it a total loss ??
If you have a USB keyboard, see if you can plug it in and navigate the menus with that. I can't tell you what buttons do what (or if any of them do anything) since I've not tried it, but something you can try if you don't have another controller nearby.
@@WagnersTechTalk I do have several other wireless controller here, but since I messed everthing up, I needed your opinion to avoid more damage. Just got this clone two days ago. I should wait for my 20 year old to fix that.
Pressing SELECT+X will typically get into RetroArch (depending on the core/emulator). From there, if cheats are supported, they can be entered. I've personally not used any cheats so can't 100% confirm but that's how you'd get to it.
Yes, 'A' should allow selecting a game unless the A/B buttons have reversed (there is an option for it under developer options). To exit a game, it's typically START+SELECT at the same time.
How do you reset the configuration for the controller? I just got this today and without knowing anything, I played around with the controller configuration. Now I can't even open the menu since all the buttons are reassigned to God knows what. None of the buttons are opening up the menu, and I'm not sure how to do a factory reset.
That's another reason why in this video I recommend making a backup of the microSD at the beginning. You should be able to plugin a USB keyboard to enter the controller mapping menu, then remap. Once you get it working, see here on making a backup of the microSD: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Backup_Clone_a_Drive
If that 256gb card goes bad can I go get a new one and pop it in and go on my way or is that what the games are on? I don't know how to back up like you did
Since this video was created, I did wind up documenting all the steps I took on my website to make it easier. To back it up and restore it to a new card, please see this: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Backup_Clone_a_Drive . At least make a backup of the card that came with it first. That way if things go wrong, you can restore it. I've had folks ask me to send my image, I can't do that.
I’ll try it again. I have two wireless style NES controllers that won’t configure even after the configuration screen. They worked for Atari only but I have used them for NES previously. Guess I’ll have to play around.
I have this same console and have been unable to connect it to my Atgames Legends Ultimate. I get picture on screen but the joystick and buttons don’t serve any function. I’ve also been unable to map them in the console settings. I know others have used a super console x pro and had no problem connecting via OTG . Not sure what I’m doing wrong?… any thoughts?
In the initial menu where you select the systems, my screen appears to be slighty not sized correctly (the bottom bar is kind of cut off where it says menu, random etc.) Is there a way to adjust this resolution?
You can adjust resolutions, with a big caveat: it may cause big problems. Please see this video which is essentially the same internals as that of the SCX Cube: ua-cam.com/video/f-tNd31hwBU/v-deo.html It's why I often recommend making a backup of the microSD. In this video, I show what can happen and why a backup is important before attempting to change the display resolution. Hope this helps!
I fixed this issue. After connecting the cube to another tv, the screen was not cut off. I just had to change the view settings in the original tv's menu (Normal, wide mode, etc.).
Bought the super console x 256gb. Mortal Kombat 2 was working on the first try no problems. Then the next day it started lagging. Is there a way I can adjust the frame rate to make it work? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If I recall correctly, I think you can press SELECT+X to enter the RetroArch settings on the device. You can then add a frameskip to improve the performance at the cost of a less-smooth experience. If you made a backup of the microSD, you can also re-flash it back to the original settings.
is there a way to change individual game languages? take the PC engine for example, all the games are in Japanese and I can't find a way to change it to English. I suspect since each game is the Japanese version there is no way to change it but hey....it doesn't hurt to ask...
To change it, you would need to locate/download a rom and copy it to the microSD. Definitely possible, so long as there is an English version of the game out there.
I managed to restore the system but I only have a few games in the console and when I try to add them I get a message that there is not enough memory. I will also add that earlier, when I connected the memory card, two devices popped up, one was the system and the other was the game and I don't have it now.
Not quite sure I understand the issue. Are you saying you tried to restore from a backup and you're getting an out of memory error? Is this from the SCX Cube or on your computer?
You can, don't recall what the button combinations are off-hand. It's something like SELECT+Left bumper, etc. May take some experimentation or may be in the included documentation.
Could be, or it could be the controller lost connection that gives the appearance that it is stuck. Perhaps check the batteries first. If that doesn't help, you can get a replacement from Amazon. I'd recommend, as soon as you do at least make a backup of the original image. That way, if it ever gets corrupted again, you can always restore it to a new microSD card. Here's some some steps on how to do that: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Backup_Clone_a_Drive
You shouldn't need to re-map the buttons. I'd recommend trying the other controller first. Then see if you can navigate to your games, start/exit (exit a game by pressing select+start at the same time). If you need to remap the controller, map the Hotkey to the Select button and Start to the Start button.
Question: can you take the SD card and put it into an HDMI stick instead of using the console? Also, would the console or an HDMI stick work with a wireless game controller (as these ones feel cheap).
The short answer is no. The "HDMI Stick" would have to be based around the same CPU used here. In your case, you may find this option more interesting (SCX Stick): ua-cam.com/video/eRVuBStH2jY/v-deo.html
@@WagnersTechTalk If I back up the SD, could it theoretically be put onto an HDMI? I hate the cordage attached to the console, even though the console itself looks cool. As for controllers, could one upgrade to some different versions, like a universal controller?
If you made a backup as recommended at 03:10, you could use these instructions to restore from the backup you made: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Restore_the_Backup
My Arcade game FRONT LINE .. one controller the soldier will not run unless I use the OTHER controller... and the other controller will not fire.. unless I use the OTHER controller.... seems the signals are crossed.. I configured both controllers..doesnt matter... any ideas?
If you press SELECT+Y (or X), you can get into RetroArch and re-map the controls under the Input option. Also, try turning on the Analog button to see if that helps.
Hi! Great video, one question. Is there a reason why the bottom options don’t respond with the buttons on the menu. For example, Press Y to put title in Favorites. However, it’s actually the X button instead. Do you know how to fix the buttons issue so that the options on the screen are what we press? Thank you in advance for your help.
It's running Emulation Station, the buttons may not 100% correspond to what you see. Unless you're familiar with re-mapping the controls, I'd be very cautious and make sure you have a backup first. It's possible to get it pretty hosed up. That said, on the main menu press START on the controller, then remap controller (I think) is the option. Then presss+hold a button on the controller to remap and assign the buttons
@@WagnersTechTalk I will try that thanks. But what I mean is that I try to play any game. It won't allow me to play and just shows me a demo of the game I selected..
If it's an Arcade game, press the SELECT button to insert a credit. If that doesn't work, your button mapping may not be correct. Try the 2nd controller first though.
How do you play the computer games I never learned computer lingo to start up the system but since most of them use a controller and one button shouldn't they be easy to play like atari games
@@WagnersTechTalk my kid messed with the controller settings and now I can't select anything. is there a way to reboot it to factory? I essentially can't select anything
Hello is it possible to flash and use another system on the Super Console X family like ArkOS (RG351MP) or RetroOZ (RGB10 Max 2) or is it just a waste of time? I love the idea to play ports like HOMAM2 and other PC games on TV via SCX. Is it possible? Thank you.
I have tried installing a few operating systems, outside of EmuElec, without success. If I figure it out in the future, it is definitely something I would make a video about. I've not investigated in several months, I'll add it to my todo list to revisit.
Love your channel and bought a super console X based on your review. Anyone know how I can alter the control to move the aim reticle on terminator 2 (MAME) to work with the controllers? Also, how do you play the ds games? Thanks for any help in advance!
Hi Kevin, thank you for your kind comments! I think for both of these, the analog button will be helpful. Press it to turn it on, then in DS you should be able to press the right-stick down to access the menu and make any adjustments you need. For T2, I think with Analog on that will work as well. I don't have the unit on-hand, this is from memory but give it a try. Should help!
The image backup will backup everything on the microSD, including the roms. I've documented that here, if needed: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Backup_Clone_a_Drive
No, you don't have to setup WiFi to play. Not sure what you mean by the console window. The main menu can be accessed by pressing the START button (press it again to hide it). When in-game, press SELECT+START to exit the game. When selecting a game, press the A button to start the game. Hope some of that helps.
A Raspberry Pi 4/400 could be setup with the Daphne emulator and added to a case such as the NESPi 4. Recalbox, Batocera and RetroPie are various Pi 4 operating systems that may be of interest. I have some info/videos on each here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming
I'm thinking of getting this for my collection, I got a ps classic mod, retro gp430 handheld and super console x pro. I can't get those others like the mini PC ones yet, too expensive. I need to fix my ps classic also my super console x pro needs fixing, I want to add some games on my gp 430 and fix the buttons. Where I go to do those?
Operating from memory here, but I think you can go into per-system game settings and set the aspect ration to 'core provided'. This will use the original aspect ratio of the game. If that's not what you want, you can try one of the other settings (if you want it stretched).
My D Pad and joystick don’t work when I try playing fighting games on Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, and PlayStation. Does anyone else have this problem? The one that I left at my mother’s house that only has 63, 000 games can play the fighting games without this problem though.
hi. i gotcthis system but the controllers are very uncomfortable. i play super mario 3 all stars of the snes and castlevania 4. also i played mike tyson's punch out and the dodge buttons feel uncomfortable. is there's any configuration to make controllers play right? or do i need to buy a special controller? if so, can someone help me?
@Wagner's TechTalk. I must say, this is the best channel I have found in a long time. I am binging your videos right now. @Wagners I was going to buy this until i found out that the MAME sounds are missing in many games. I'm not comfortable messing around with emulators on PC's so a plug and play pre set up system is very appealing to me. I want something like the Super Console X Cube, but with the MAME sounds fully working. Any recommendations I would hugely appreciate.
Thank you SJW! Just about all the options out there are going to require some kind of tweaks here and there. One that includes 100 licensed games is the Legends Gamer Mini: wagnerstechtalk.com/algm/ There are some great games, but a limited selection of them. However, by adding a specially formatted USB stick it can play thousands more using CoinOpsX: wagnerstechtalk.com/al-coinopsx/ Though, the process is documented fully on that page, it is a little time consuming -initially. I've heard Sam's Club may have them on sale in certain locations around $50 which is a steal IMO.
No, the card is ready to go. But, I do recommend making a copy of it just incase it fails in the future you can restore it (done from a PC). Here's some instructions to help with that: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Backup_Clone_a_Drive
My Super Console X Nes came in the post, but when I connected the HDMI cable, there was no display. I tried using different HDMI cables and still there was no display. Please tell me what the issue could be, and whether there must be something wrong with system.
Make sure the microSD card is fully inserted (uninsert/reinsert). If HDMI cables are good, hit the power button. If you don't see a video signal, return for a replacement.
@@WagnersTechTalk okay, I've tried that. The SD card was already inserted, I turned off my TV and on again, and still no video signal. This can only mean it really is broken and really does need replacing. What email should I use to contact customer services, and request for a replacement?
I don't know where you are or where you purchased it, if from Amazon, get a replacement through them. If another seller, it could be more difficult especially if they are in China.
Hi does anyone have a working link to a proper backup of the SD card? Mine is no longer working and unfortunately I failed to back up 😔 Most of the links I find on the net are not working
Technically, I'm sure you could. However, it wouldn't be easy. You would need to compile the emulator for the target chipset (S905) and then install the binaries to the image. It's not something I've personally done myself.
This happened to me after purchasing an upgraded sd card from them that had more games. They were cool in sending out a replacement. You just have to contact them. I think I had to send them a photo of the system itself.
They aren't great, but functional. I used them in this video, so they do work. The sticks and buttons could definitely be improved, but if you find them really bad you can always plug in something else. Just keep in mind, it doesn't have on-board Bluetooth. If you do, it will need it's own wireless dongle or use a wired controller.
@@WagnersTechTalk really!?!?!!! I’m gonna look into some better controls. I got them when they came out wasn’t many people out there talking advantage of that maket yet. I’ve played the Hell out of them LOL even putting up with the delays and pressing Left right and moving the character up or pressing up or down and the character move left or right falling off of cliffs trying to throw punches in Mike Tyson’s punch out etc LOL but I’ve played the Hell out of it!!! Nostalgia city it’s a little time machine definitely.
I don't think so, the dongles that come with the controllers provide the wireless capability to the controllers. It may be possible to plug in a BT dongle and make them work, but it's not something I've personally attempted.
You'll have to check with the seller to see what regions/adapter you will need. They will likely ship it according to the region where you're located, but double check with the seller.
All the connections are USB-only. A buddy told me of an Atari 2600-style USB controller that was available, it might work in-game but there won't be enough buttons on that stick to exit the game (I don't think, you'd need to be able to assign a hotkey and the A2600 only has a single button).
If you're asking if the X Arcade Stick would work, I don't own one, but most likely. However, if I were going to use that stick I would recommend using a Raspberry Pi 4. The processing power will be better, hardware is better supported and more controller options. I have a guide for using various RetroGaming distributions (Recalbox, RetroPie and Batocera) here, if interested: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming
I only paid $60.00 for mine. Seems like everyone but me got the Playstation style controllers with this. I got the Super NES controllers. I didn't want the Playstation controllers because of them being wireless. I don't trust wireless controllers (that aren't the real deal). My two complaints in the short time I was playing was...1. The graphics being a bit blurry for some reason. And 2. The play control is a bit clunky and unresponsive. Every button I press is delayed for a split second. Like in Super Mario Bros., I press jump, but Mario doesn't jump until shortly afterwards. Every game is this way, and I got killed over and over because of this. That alone makes me wonder if I'll ever use this console anymore.
Curious if you have another USB controller, such as a wired XBox 360 (or similar) you can connect and try? I've not tried the SNES controller so not sure if there are any issues specific to that model. The PS-style controller I received certainly isn't the best, but it was usable.
@@WagnersTechTalk Unfortunately, no. I have no other USB controller. But I do plan on getting some. It might just be the these SNES controllers they made that's causing the delay. I'm going to get a different brand eventually, plus maybe a USB Playstation controller to try out (but not wireless). This console will be awesome if a different controller responds better.
@@WagnersTechTalk thank you I just got mine in mail today and I'm really surprised how well it works. Still the 3.9 but I'm having flash backs at goingbto family's house and playing all these games.

At the front of the controller, you'll find a mode button. Press it once and see if that helps. Also, make sure that both of the wireless dongles (inside the battery compartment) are plugged into the USB ports on the unit. If that doesn't help, you may have received a faulty unit. In that case, return/replace or contact the seller for options.
Thank you for the video. I bought one after watching this. I've been playing the Dreamcast version of Marvel vs Capcom 2 for about a week when I suddenly got a game error message and can no longer boot up the game. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I bought this for my arcade 1 up cab and it's great only issue I'm having is configuring the controller I get all the buttons done and joystick but for rhe life of me the back out to the menu selection won't work
If you use the wireless controllers that came with the unit, does it work there? How are you connecting the A1up buttons, through an IPAC? I don't have any moded A1UP cabs here (just a single SW cab), may want to post your question here: www.reddit.com/r/Arcade1Up/ . Could be a connector not seated with the iPac or the version of EmuElec may have an issue. Hard to say.
That is why I mention to make a backup copy of the microSD as soon as you get it (instructions: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Backup_Clone_a_Drive ). That way, if it gets hosed up, you can always restore it back.

Hi, can I connect this directly to my TV and play like regular console or is a computer needed?
I know nothing about these?
Thanks!
It would be ideal if you have a USB controller you can try, it may work right away.
Do cheats codes work? For example Contra code?
Pressing SELECT+X will typically get into RetroArch (depending on the core/emulator). From there, if cheats are supported, they can be entered. I've personally not used any cheats so can't 100% confirm but that's how you'd get to it.
Very basic question- when selecting a game in the library how on earth do you start???? Pressing A doesn’t work
Yes, 'A' should allow selecting a game unless the A/B buttons have reversed (there is an option for it under developer options).
I've had folks ask me to send my image, I can't do that.
i'm glad this system have virtua fighter animation on gamegear and master system
In NES Super Marion3, there’s no way to actually start it. Just shows the start selection screen. What buttons?
Should be the Start button. If not try the other controller.

If you made a backup of the microSD, you can also re-flash it back to the original settings.
the stick has pretty much disappeared from the stores. I'm thinking they may have had technical issues with them.
Maybe, I haven't had any issues with mine but I don't operate it that often.
is there a way to change individual game languages? take the PC engine for example, all the games are in Japanese and I can't find a way to change it to English. I suspect since each game is the Japanese version there is no way to change it but hey....it doesn't hurt to ask...
To change it, you would need to locate/download a rom and copy it to the microSD. Definitely possible, so long as there is an English version of the game out there.

You have 685 PS1 games on yours?
Hi. So I recently bought the super console x cube from Amazon and now it’s stuck in the emuelec screen. Does this mean that the SD card is corrupted?
Could be, or it could be the controller lost connection that gives the appearance that it is stuck. Perhaps check the batteries first. If that doesn't help, you can get a replacement from Amazon. I'd recommend, as soon as you do at least make a backup of the original image. That way, if it ever gets corrupted again, you can always restore it to a new microSD card. You shouldn't need to re-map the buttons. I'd recommend trying the other controller first.

How do you connect a remote control
Can u use original controllers with the systems it's emulated. For example , can u use atari controllers on Atari games ?
All the connections are USB-only. A buddy told me of an Atari 2600-style USB controller that was available, it might work in-game but there won't be enough buttons on that stick to exit the game (I don't think, you'd need to be able to assign a hotkey and the A2600 only has a single button).
@Wagner's TechTalk how about an x arcade stick , that has an option for USB port ?
Could be a connector not seated with the iPac or the version of EmuElec may have an issue. Hard to say.
@@WagnersTechTalk yeah I think it's just not saving the configuration for some reason
Is better than super console x pro?
IMO - No, I don't own the Pro but from what I understand the Pro has a usable Android firmware where this does not. Hope that helps.
I heard this console can be easily bricked if you're not a techie (which I am not) Do you think that is true?
That is why I mention to make a backup copy of the microSD as soon as you get it (instructions: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Backup_Clone_a_Drive ). That way, if it gets hosed up, you can always restore it back.
