Let's be honest. Megadeth was always Megadave. It was always what Mustaine wanted. Other members of the band are just hired guns. He's basically a solo artist.
This whole thing is just stereotypical rockstar bad behavior from a legacy act. It happens all the time and is pretty dumb, in my opinion. I wonder why we almost never hear this amount of bickering from underground metal bands?
If they are talking about the first 15 seconds Intro of Kingmaker, I really don’t understand the big controversy. The bass thematically sets up the helicopter sound for the king.
The controversy would likely come down to how publishing works. If you add a melodic part to a song they you are part owner and you get more money...which is fine, unless: Either A) Mustaine said "everybody write something cool!" and then forgot, like Ellefson says. B) Mustaine walked in to the studio and saw Ellefson recording a part that he never approved of on HIS song (which is NOT cool) and Ellefson is lying, which Mustaine implied when he said Ellefson tried to poach his song and it pissed him off. C) Little of column A, little of column B and the misunderstanding brought back the feeling to Mustaine of "why did I try to give this guy his percent of the Org after he lost it on me and yelled at me in front of my son, then missed the deadline and THEN tried to sue for the entire value of the Corporation??? (This is covered and documented Mustaine's Autobiography Mustaine.
@@lefthandedfork3337 Yeah, Kingmaker was pretty solid tbh. Super Collider is arguably Megadeth's worst album since their 2004 comeback, but it wasn't entirely a dumpster fire. It had it's moments.
Megadeth is one of my all time favourite bands. Dave Mustaine is one of my guitar idols. With that said, Dave can be an asshole and he should just leave Jr alone and move on. Dave likes to hold grudges we all know that.
Jeff Young wasn't the only one. Or have you not heard Scott Menzies (former tour manager) talk about the amount of fist fights he used to get into with Chris Poland too?
Having met MUSTAINE on many occasions, i can tell you, he doesn’t have a sense of humor, he’s very arrogant, and he never forgets a slight, no matter how benign…
Dave’s one of those heroes that you know you shouldn’t meet. He teeters on this line of being confident because he knows he’s good and straight up being a jerk. If he hadn’t been fired from Metallica when he was.. I think they would’ve split ways eventually. Some kind of monster showed how volatile Lars and James’ relationship is… throw a time bomb like Dave in there and let that bake for a couple of years??? Dave’s definitely got demons… It’s like Het said about Newsted when they drove him to quit the band.. he said he didn’t want Jason to be happy outside of Metallica because James doesn’t know how to love something without hugging it to the point of choking It.
I can understand where you’re coming from. I joined the army and when I got out I was working a job. Dave Mustaine showed up and I asked for an autograph. It was 1990 and I was kinda depressed because my job sucked. He gave me an autograph and a pick and shook my hand. It was a kind gestures d I never forget that. I met him ten years later at a meet and greet and he shook my hand again. I thought he was actually really cool. So I guess you just never know.
@@Emcfree2084 it was at a Hilton and he was hungover. And no he doesn’t just have to. There’s been plenty of famous people who shun people they come in contact with out of the blue.
I was really saddened by Ellefsons dismissal from the band, and I have to agree with Ellefsons claims that Mustaine never got over the Metallica firing
I used to think that dave mustaine got kicked out for a bogus reason but after seeing how he acts towards people after all of these years it's no wonder how he got kicked out of metallica, big props to ellefson handling it professionally like a real gentleman, he handled it more maturely than i think i would. It just goes to show how great of a character he is even when mustaine is still attacking him to this day.
Metallica are not known for firing people. If they fired an awesome guitar player like Mustaine there was a very good reason for it. I don't think they ever fired anybody else.
Ellefson's cool. He seems humble and accepting, and I'm sure it does feel good to be free from Mustaine, Mustaine is warped, gotta love him tho. And ellefson. They're my dudes.
Its about time Jr stands up for himself. The really sad part about this is Ellifson was the closest thing Mustaine could call a true friend, but was always to ignorant to see him as that. Decades the two Daves spent together one always through everything had the others back, the other one I think really saw the other as an employee. A hired hand that he used for studio work and touring. Dave Ellifson should hook up with Marty Friedman and Chris Poland find a drummer and do a tour of Megadeth songs but faster....
I'm with David Ellefson on this,Dave Mustaine has a history of doing this. In my opinion I think Dave Mustaine is toxic and should be avoided at any stage
Kerry King turned down Megadeth after playing 5 shows with them, Dimebag Darrell back when he was Diamond Darrell turned down Megadeth because they didn’t want Vinnie Paul
I am a HUGE Megadeth fan. And I think Mr Mustaine is one of the most brilliant guitarists of my time. I have only got to see Megadeth once in concert, in 2016, and I will admit I spent the entire concert twelve feet directly in front of David Ellefson, watching him play. No offense meant to James LoMenzo, but I feel like Megadeth does not really exist as a band without Ellefson; it just becomes The Mustaine Band. The band will miss Ellefson's contributions, not only in their live shows and their albums but just in bringing some humanity/humility to the band. Unfortunately, we all know that David Mustaine is a...troubled...human being. Always has been, and still is. He has difficulty relating to others, and treating them as equals. And thats too bad. I wish them all well.
Well said I agree with you completely. I saw them in 2005 and 2007 I think, both times without Ellefson. I really wanted to see him play in the band. Kind of sad he is not in the band anymore.
We're listening to a band, not one single human being. He was a liability to the band, the press hopped all over his drama and it was going bad. Dave didn't have a choice. It is the BAND. Imagine if they would have dug in as a band and tried to defend him with those weird accusations. TBH I think he's a creep and playing a strange passive aggressive game in the media. If he wanted to move on, he wouldn't be talking about it. He contributed nothing to Megadeth besides being clean at the right moments. Poland and Gar contributed far more to the music that he ever did in all the years he was playing bass. Mustaine has kids lol, how do you think he reacted to all of this? F-ck Ellefson, he's a ghoul. It wasn't trying to bang 18 year olds, it was GROOMING KIDS. The people apologizing for this are twisted weirdos. Lol now he's trying to frame it like he was abused. Gross.
Ellefson's psychoanalysis is spot on. Dave was fired from Metallica, and has fired about 20 Megadeth band members. He never got over it, but that's the fire that's driven him to make Megadeth as awesome as it is. Sure, he's a major douche at times but douchery often comes with great art.
As awesome as it "was" a long time ago. Dave fell off big time. I know his nut huggers don't want to admit it, but Megadeth haven't been relevant for decades. Looking back it is clear who the problem was and is. Dave could have been huge in anything he did. That's the talent he had. But he is a massive asshole. Just the way it is
He has a Metallica sized chip on his shoulder, for sure. I love megadeth, I try to separate the art from the artist but one comes directly from the other.
Honestly Dave Mustaine builds his confidence out of being an ass but fuck it we still get killer albums from Megadeth while the rest of the Big 4 is just… done.
Great art is an overstatement. The man is a needy pick-me showboating in hopes of outdoing Metallica and he has yet to accomplish that goal even after all these decades. Most people would give up but Dave's ego won't let him.
Typically with sexual related scandals there's no opportunity for a second chance, the stigma of what Ellefson did is more detrimental to a public image than someone being a drunk.
Nah probably not in this case. Perhaps if it wasn't well known for decades that Mustaine is a twat to everyone around him, I could believe that Ellefson maybe exaggerating.
I’ve only got two thoughts. Of course Dave Mustaine is acting this way. Wouldn’t expect anything less. 2nd, there’s something missing from this story. I understand that Dave used that opportunity to kick him out. But if it was building to that, other stuff happened. I just hope the kids are OK in this messy divorce.
I'm a fan from literally the demos and Mustaine is Mustaine, but I'm starting to raise eyebrows with Jr here...he's using his words in very manipulative ways...to say Mustaine has "some" resentment towards him and not bring up the $22M law suit he brought against Megadeth is totally dishonest. To claim it's all about Metallica is a complete cheap shot...Megadeth has had 25+ members in and out of the band...THIS is the only time that it was about Metallica??? Not to mention this nearly 60 year old guy seems to be totally good trying to get in the pants of a girl 1/3 his age and, for some reason, can not seem to fathom that it hurt the overall Megadeth brand while they were starting a promotional cycle. Even if you don't agree with their conclusions, nobody with any sense would think these are minor things...Ellefson had a chance to do it his way and it never seemed to go anywhere...he's still doing Megadeth tribute stuff. If he's that good a song writer then why does he have so few credits in and out of Megadeth??? I generally think Ellefson is a good guy who has made some BAD choices but this thing of "everything is Mustaine's fault" is so dishonest. If Mustaine was so controlling and wanted no ones input, its kind of odd that 9 of the 12 new songs DO have Dirk and Kiko input and writing credits...
I have to believe Junior's right. Children of abusive parents often go on to be abusive. For four decades. Mustaine has been taking his frustrations toward Metallica out on those around him...and probably himself, as well. It's sad, because Lars and James did him a real favor by muscling him out to make something considerably better than 'tallica on his own. I hope Dave Senior can one day set himself free from the resentment he's carried since the Reagan Era.
Better?! You're a joke 😂 but I agree with rest, among all musicians ever who were kicked out of the bands, Dave is only one that 40 years later still crying about it, that's pathetic, and simply doesn't care for benefits of it, look what he did with ton of other musicians that played in Megadeth, kicked out, trash talking, Kiko is next, just wait
Better than ‘tallica? Yeah for those who are able to completely ignore atrocious vocals maybe, but even then not really unless you also ignore the first 6 Metallica albums. Cue some NPC rolling out the old “Dave’s vocals fit the music perfectly” cope
Religion is the issue. Everyone assumes Salvation has to do with religion. Salvation is the beginning of a relationship with God and is not about religion. Even the devil believes in God. His relationship is a bit strained to say the least. Bottom line none of us truly know what took place between Dave and Dave jr.
Well, for a start Dave Ellefson is supposed to be an ordained priest who happens to be married, and yet there was that video scandal that led to his dismissal, so, what's a married ordained priest doing being caught indulging in a video session with a girl other than the one he's supposed to be married to?, if that's not doing something wrong I'll be a monkey's uncle.
Great video, I was in a beautiful marriage before my now ex wife left me,i still love her and most times i cant stop thinking about her, i am doing my very best to get rid of the thought of her, but i just cant, i love her so much, i dont know why i am bring this here for, i cant stop thinking about her.
its always difficult to let go of someone you love, i was in a similar situation my wife for 12 years left me, i couldnt just let her go i did all i could to get her back, i had to seek the help of a spiritual adviser who helped me bring her back.
@@haynesatteh4463 her name SHELLY RENEE WHITE, you can look her up online, she is the best spiritual adviser she helped out in such a difficult situation.
Dave probably had the last straw with David and wanted to have an excuse to get rid of him.None of us will ever know the full story but it seems like Daves the problem most of the time.
Yep. There's always one common thread, and that's Dave Mustaine himself. Everybody meets an asshole now and then, and everyone sometimes has trouble with coworkers, and everyone gets in an argument once in while... but when almost EVERYONE you meet has a problem with you and you fight ALL the time with almost EVERYONE you've ever worked with for DECADES... there's a damn good chance the asshole is you.
Mad respect for Ellefson, he was there from the start, an awesome bass player, and definitely enjoying the freedom of being in a different band. At first I wasn’t sure about this but I wanna hear his new stuff.
Ellefson had way to many chances and proved he's a piece of shit everytime. He screwed himself. Now he wines about it to get attention....fuck em. Jr is a total asshole. Mustaine even gave him another chance after Jr tried to take the band name from Mustaine.....Mustaine wrote all the songs as obviously is Megadeth. I'm glad Mustaine canned that turd.
Been a Megadeth fan since the beginning. We all know Dave can be an asshole and he likes to hold grudges. It is a shame to see him and Jr at odds though. I know deep down they love each other.
Dave E. made a big mistake got punished for it and Dave M. is still dragging him through the mud? It does feel like there's more to this than Dave M. is letting on¥
I mean Jr. Tried sueing him, and now got leaked choking the chicken to a 19 year old whilst married to his wife of 28 years. Now comes out claiming Mustaine was abusive??? David give it up, Mustaine does run his mouth but you got no room to be talking about abusive relationship.
He was owed money, he's been with mustaine from the very beginning, immediately after Metallica got tired of his violent drunk outburst... When a bunch of alcoholics can't stand an alcoholic that's pretty fkn bad
megadeath is an exceptional metal band no question there, the trials throughout the bands history have been tragic also. its tough to judge how situations were dealt with in the past but ultimately they were. This situation to me has manifested into something larger than the bands life could absorb which is sad to say the least . My hope is that this bickering between the 2 daves can be ultimately be resolved. The past with metallica is exactly that , and should have no baring on what is currently feuding .
This is all just fluff. Dave has been trying to avoid talking about Ellefson and everyone keeps bring it back up. Ellefson made decisions that Dave didn’t want to be associated with and that’s why he was fired. You’re just starting shit.
Absolutely! These interviewers just aren't putting 2+2 together. No one wants to be associated with a pedophile. And as for his bass parts on Kingmaker, why are they arguing over something that happened 10 years ago on what is perhaps their worst album which they don't play any of the songs from live anymore?
If you read/listen to Dave's interviews in the Rust In Peace 30th anniversary book you get this really bitter sentiment from Mustaine on people's contributions or attempts to be part of the band post-reformation. Those sentiments are especially clear in his voice
@@ObsidianLife in the book he's referring to the vibe around the classic lineup reunion discussions and how the dynamic had certainly shifted from what they had been in the 90s to a straight up Mustaine Monarchy. If I had to guess what brought out Dave's grump it would be not being in the room when people were experimenting and the notion that they might be committing without his sayso regardless of how justified that notion is. I'm sure Dirk and Kiko, having come in with a different dynamic were far more diplomatic about their contributions and most certainly didn't have that same baggage or history that Junior did.
@@MaxFeinsteinMusic The original line-up of Mustaine, Ellefson, Gar, and Chris Poland was the closest that Megadeth ever got to being a cohesive band. Ever since that line-up dissolved it's been a hired gun situation, I mean if you read Mustaine's auto-biography it's obvious that Marty never really fit in a "thrash metal" band (great player, but he's a little too, uh, nice, to be in a band with Mustaine) and Mustaine never really gelled with Nick Menza. By the time of Youthanasia that line-up was starting to be strained.
@@ryanjacobson2508 I could not agree more. Gar and Chris were practically unhinged as players and when Jeff and Chuck had to replace them for practical reasons the band began to sound a bit too conventional. You start seeing people get fired for more petty reasons going forward from there.
Same dude. I had an asshole for a guitarist who told me I couldn't do this and couldn't do that. This interview actually describes my relationship with him. When he fired me I felt like I got kicked out of hell. Only problem is I was the founding member and that asshole just joined. He had no right to fire me. But since the other two are afraid of him they went with his orders.
Dave and Junior both formed Megadeth in the fall of 1983. Mustaine did come up with the name, Megadeth and wrote most of the tunes, but Junior was there from day 1.
If Dave Mustaine is mad about anything it's probably the negative publicity that Ellefson brought to the band last year. You represent more than the just the band there are a lot of moving parts such as guitar techs, drum techs, management. He could've ruined a lot of jobs.
@@commisargamerson1666 I mean to be fair, although that video did put the band in a bad light, Ellefson didn't do anything illegal, sure the chick was on the way younger side, but she was still a legal, of age, consenting adult, so I don't see what the big deal is, although I can understand from a business point of view why he was fired...but mustain is salty and bitter and we all know why, and thats why i'll never be a fan of the band, coz mustain can't accept that metallica moved on and made a huge success, its almost as if he forgot why he was fired in the first place...
@@ronaldvanas9492 the picture of ellefson holding his pud is constantly spammed on all of megadeth's social media Mustaine is gonna bad mouth him as much as he can
@@Jakevoss96 Yup. Megadeth is now known now for Ellefson holding his pud and is a laughing stock, in some circles...and people think image doesnt matter.
I never got a chance to see Ellefson play in Megadeth so I hope they can mend their relationship. Unfortunately, every new Mustaine interview seems to be burning that bridge.
I saw Ellefson on their reunion tour with them for the RIP 20th anniversary in 2010. It was nothing special really. Other than Dawn Patrol the focus was more on Broderick playing the Tornado of Souls solo properly along with the other Friedman guitar work.
David needs to get bitter and resentful, then start a new band for the sole purpose of upstaging his old bandmates. He can call it MegaDavid Jr and reuse all the riffs he composed while in his old band, but faster. Only he needs to actually succeed at the goal. 🤣
Didnt junior say that he was willing to get back in megadeth, and that he is sad for how things turned up? What does he mean with abusive behaviour and hell? I believe theyre both dumbasses, junior is kind of mad that he got kicked out, and mad about the things mustaine said recently, and mustaine is just mustaine... I love him but his personality doesnt really scream manners...
I do see your point, and I feel like in the beginning, when Ellefson was kicked out, he just wanted to not talk shit on Dave and not start drama, but now since Dave just keeps talking trash, Ellefson definitely got bothered by it, and now might be more willing to throw shit Dave’s way too.
The stories have always been that Mustain is almost impossible to work with. Just look at the line up changes through the years. There is no original member of the band other than Mustain.
My gosh, the media is drooling over the idea of a feud between the two Daves so much that they'll twist anything Dave Mustaine says and turn it into a diss towards Dave Ellefson. And I've stated this before but I think Ellefson being fired from Megadeth is just a consequence of Ellefson's Toobin tape (as I shall call it) getting out.
The biggest thing is my life that has kept me from being a Megadeth fan is Dave Mustaine. Never cared for him. He's a great musician but clearly a very flawed human being. I'm not pro-Ellefson but I'm definitely leaning towards anti-Mustaine. Mustaine makes it pretty easy to root against him.
@@JJ-mu9ev Personally I like SFSGSW and Peace Sells the most of out their catalogue. I agree that both bands have lost their relevance, it's mostly a handful of albums that were released before I was double-digits years old that get my attention. I gotta agree on the manchild aspects and not wanting to stoke that particular ego. Soap opera is a good way to summarize the drama that follows (and leaks from) Dave Mustaine.
@@JJ-mu9ev It's interesting how metal fandom overlaps with people who can't grow up (I'm guilty) and people who are susceptible to weaponized nostalgia. Maybe it's not surprising that terribly immature mindsets and ideologies are more common than in the general public. It doesn't justify any of those issues, it just suggests to anticipate them.
I love the music of Megadeth but only that. I have no interest in meeting or being friends with Dave Mustaine, the same applies to Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley, Hetfield & Ulrich, Kerry King, Varg Vikernes and Euronymous if he were still alive. Difficult people are everywhere.
Well said brother. The music will secure itself to me the less I know about the ego & narcissism of artist mention I learn about. I wouldn’t put myself in a position to meet any of those artist mentioned so as to insure my love & joy for their music & avoid ever taunting it.
Super Collider is not one of their best albums, but Kingmaker is a good song, and that bass intro is awesome! No doubt by the time Dave gets to the "Super Collider Remastered" he'll pull the intro like he did to Marty Friedman's guitar intro on Insomnia.
Mustaine is Megadeth ownership wise. Mustaine forgot that Ellefson was with Mustaine before they actually formed the group, and maybe if Mustaine actually let the other band member's contribute Megadeth might have sold more records. Mustaine has been through hell, and back but perhaps he would have sold 200,000,000 records like Mettalica instead of 50,000,000. I'm sure Mustaine smiles once in a while I think....
But Mustang has released more solid thrash metal albums in general, Metallica from 93 to 2006 was complete garbage, the real reason is simple, James has a better voice and that's why they're more successful, Dave would run loops around them musically sadly he's not a great vocalist
@@michealrosen The voice doesn't always sell more records, or Dio would have the best seller. It's all in the style you like. Mettalica's first three albums started to sell a lot more after 1988 Monster's of Rock tour. I was at the Cotton Bowl watch Kingdom Come leave the stage without much excitement then Metallica came out, and I had seen the crowd of over 107,000 people fist pumping in 100 degree weather being cooled off by firehoses, and that day I knew I had seen the power of Metallica out do every band that day. Don Dokken talks about it sucked to have to go out after Metallica. I still have my And Justice For All concert t-shirt. Then in 1991 The Black Album sold 31 million copies woldwide not counting downloads.
No, it's because Metallica goes for the commercial appeal in their music. It's safe for them. They write the best catchy hooks. And James has a good voice but so does Dave when he's not doing an overly harsh vocal effect. Megadeth has constantly released a higher percentage of thrash albums. Even though both bands each released 4 non thrash albums (mostly metal), Metallica has 11 studio albums and Megadeth has had 16 studio albums all together. That puts things into perspective. Also even though Metallica's last three have been thrash, Death Magnetic was the harder of the three and 72 Seasons is once again there to make the lowest common denominator fan happy. Will the next album not be thrash once again? That's my fear. I hope I'm wrong.
Also thrash isn't as popular as just metal. It's more palatable for the masses. So that's why they sell more albums. Thank God Mustaine doesn't see it that way.
I agree. People like to put down Mustaine, but he's been married to the same woman all this time and isn't a sexual predator like Ellefson is. Plus... Ellefson is an ordained minister which makes his hypocrisy worse.
Dam, I wasn't aware that so many people know so many in-depth and intricate details about the private lives and deepest thoughts and feelings of this band and its members, especially Dave Mustaine.
Mustaine has always been a smart A. Anyone joining that band has to know that going in. I think it has to do with the way he was raised. His childhood was rough and had an affect on him. Every interview I’ve ever read or heard by Mustaine he’s always condescending of someone or something. It’s just the way he is.
Mustaine doesn’t let anything go. I’m sure he’s still pissed at the doctor that slapped his ass, after he was born. David has been far too gracious, and keeping things “respectful”. Glad he stood up for himself, hopefully MegaDave can move on.
5:27 Ellefson sounds like he's really moved on from being fired from Megadeth? Meanwhile he's prepping a tour with other ex-members of Megadeth, to play Megadeth songs... hilarious! This is probably what rubbed off Mustaine the wrong way. Ellefson was also saying he would like a second chance or whatever, he would welcome the chance to come back... He CLEARLY has not moved on at all
Junior has to make a living He knows the songs and so does Chris Poland The two will be able to draw on the club circuit. I don't think it has as much to do with poking at Mustaine as it does paying the proverbial mortgage.
nor does he need to. Megadizzle was Ellifsons' child too - I don't think he means he's simply done w the music and all he helped to create - he just means he's over dealing w Dave Mustaine and his obviously sour, bitter, angry attitude. I'm not in a band w the guy and I don't even know him - but I'M over dealing w Dave. He's such a downer - disguised from time to time w 'reborn' BS. Transparent as a window pane. Don't tell me you're reborn one minute, then the next minute go back to being the same old jerk
Literally the only thing Ellefson is known for is playing on Megadave records and tours. He doesn't have a whole lot of choice for other ways to make a living. What's he supposed to do, put out a solo record no one would give a shit about? So yeah, he's probably going to be playing in basically a Megadeth tribute band the rest of his life. It's kind of sad, really... hitching yourself to someone else's star for your whole career seldom ends well.
He fact he's off playing Megadeth songs should prove he's moved on, if anything. If he hadn't, he'd be making a Megadeth 2.0, trying to out metal Dave or whatever. He's not. Dude's been extremely gracious about the whole thing... same can't be said about Mustaine.
I’ve seen fanboys before claim Dave Mustaine to be a “national treasure” who should be “protected”. Well he certainly doesn’t seem to be acting like any sort of “treasure” unless you count precious. Plenty of people saying it’s Dave’s band etc and he can do as he likes. For starters, both Dave’s have been there since the beginning so they should hold equal stakes in the band. Secondly, if it’s just one person running the show then it’s not a band. Little wonder there’s been a constant revolving door of musicians throughout the entire band’s history. I don’t profess to know anybody personally (plus don’t like the way Newsted was treated) but ain’t it funny how Metallica, for the most part, have remained a consistent unit for decades. The soul exception being the bassist and they’re only on the third in that case. Ellefson is the one person who stuck with Dave throughout. Otherwise it’s always been the Dave Mustaine show. Everybody is expendable to Dave. Know what that means? If you’re in Megadeth, you’re not in a band. You’re a god damn session musician playing backup to Mustaine. I love Mustaine’s talent. He doesn’t really endear himself to me as a person right now, however.
@@phadrus I’m not protecting anybody. Neither guy is a model citizen. They’ve both made some retarded life choices. Only one seems to be getting on their high-horse over it.
David Ellefson quit during the Capitol Records fall out. Then sued his way back into the band only after Dave got another record label. Which led to an uncomfortable relationship for everyone involved with the band. For him to act like he doesn’t know where the hostility came from and just blame Dave is BS, he knows exactly what the problem was.
@@JM-mv7sv Well everything I have read was the band broke up in 2002, David sues in 2004 and did not rejoin Megadeth till 2010. I also recall reading in Dave's book that the two had not spoken in several years and he had flown out to Phoenix to where Ellefson lived. To quote " We went out to dinner, talked about old times and new opportunities, about wives and friends and kids". That does not sound like it was an immediate sue and back in the band.
I can't believe that after 40 years, Dave Mustaine is still pissed about being kicked out of Metallica. He forms Megadeth which became one of the greatest metal bands on the planet, and he's still pissed off about being kicked out of Metallica?
It's so obvious that after all these years, Mustaine isn't over being kicked out of Metallica. It's quite absurd, given the fact that he has achieved more success as a leader of his own band. If he stayed in Metallica, I'm sure the band would implode anyway.
I don't believe we have enough insight or inner circle knowledge to have a valid opinion on this subject. I know this though, the new Megadeth album kicks ass and I know I would love to hear the Ellefson version which will never happen and I look forward to hearing Ellefson and Poland in their new project together.anything else sounds like quips from "The days of our Thrashing" soap opera I don't want to hear about it yet when it comes up I can't help myself but to listen
It sucks .. and is sad . I grew up with Megadeth being one my favorite bands ( still is ) Even though Mustaine is clearly the driving force , but Jr. is who made Megadeth a band in my eyes . Those two together were amazing ! And people don’t realize how Jr. helped that band keep moving . There’s clearly something else going on here that we will probably never know the full story . Regardless it’s sad . I had the honor of having Jr. as my A&R guy when I was with peavy for a short time ,and we did a leg of a soulfly tour he was on playing bass . Great standup dude I hope they can get past this .
It seems like Mustaine is pissed that he caught so much flack from the fans over letting Ellefson go. He probably didn’t think the fans would make that big of a deal of it and now he’s really annoyed by the whole thing.
Mustaine is the sort of person who could find a way to be annoyed by it if you just handed him a briefcase full of cash and walked away. He's obviously a miserable person. It's honestly really sad, not just for the people he screws over, but also for him. Happy, well-adjusted people don't act like that.
I think Dave never forgave Junior for suing him. All the Megadeth fans i know think it was hard to fire him. ‘Box office over brotherhood’ also was a factor no doubt. Reminds me of Eddie Van Halen’s resentment towards Michael Anthony.
2:30 Why would someone, who just signed off on the whole album, then say "if you want to change anything, go right ahead"? Wouldn't that mean he would have to re-listen to sign off again? No wonder Mustaine was bewildered... Ellefson seems like kind of a blockhead sometimes
As a music fan I don’t give two shits about either one of their riff raffs with each other. The way I look at it is I get a kick ass Megadeth album and from the first song that I’ve heard off of Elleson/Soto that isn’t bad either. Win win.
Megadeth is a one man band!! It hasn't been a band since Menza and Friedman left. Even Ellefson said it's Mustaine and the rest are just paid musicians. The issue with Mustaine is he can't stand the fact that Ellefson is as much Megadeth as he is!!
Dave Mustaine seems like a miserable, temperamental baby. Dave's life is so full of people that he resents and has shitty things to say about, the problem most likely is not everyone else. The problem is Dave.
Yep.
@@phadrus Interesting well-documented personality trait that can be attested to ever since he was in Metallica. The man's a bitter, resentful needledick.
as a Megadeth fan I just wish we wouldn’t hear the shit that happens behind the curtains, band mates talking shit about each other… it’d be best to not air all that drama…
Love Mustaine and Megadeth, long, long time fan, but I think it's pretty clear that Jr is more in the right over this particular situation. Yes I could understand firing him, even though he didn't do anything illegal, but I can't understand re-recording his bass parts. That seems incredibly petty to me and it's obvious that Mustaine does have resentment & bitterness he can't let go of.
Mustaine just can't seems to accept his firing from metallica. I mean some people just have that long ass resentment that they just chose not to let go when actually they can. That's actually Mustaine problems. Firing nick, firing ellefson etc. It's just Mustaine. He can't accept the bad things that happen to him b4. And what he did to nick and ellefson was the same.
Yep. Buncha miserable old rich men in their 60s arguing like schoolgirls. It's pathetic, but it happens a lot with successful musicians, actors etc. When people get famous young, often they just never really grow up; they're living in a fake world full of fake people who tell them they're gods all the time, many of whom are constantly trying to rip them off, and they're under bizarre pressures that normal folks can't really understand. It warps people's minds.
It's almost like Mustaine is trying do to Ellefson a favor by bringing up every other reason he wanted to fire Ellefson and not mention the one that ruins Ellefson's character.
Everyone can add something good to the world. Not everyone can be charismatic in public all the time. These people work better alone, and they think better alone. Dave Mustaine is that type of dude. He can be an ass, and he can be nice. But one thing is for sure with lone wolf's is they all tell you what they're thinking. Thoughts change over time. These people just live and don't try and hide behind some fake persona built up over time. It's tough sometimes because of personal growth but I respect that type way more than the type who can mingle with everyone.
Mustaine has always been a difficult human being that harbors resentment. ME-gadeth has always been just about him. Don't get me wrong, I love their music, but he has always overshadowed the band with his personal issues and statements. He is not a humble guy, but is an incredible musician. He has caused a lot of critcism when he opens his mouth because of his unfiltered nature
I honestly feel bad for Dave mustaine cuz he's been through a lot and it's still striving and thriving. As we all have our flaws and I love Dave Ellison's bass playing and it sucks that they aren't getting along but it does sound like something else that isn't being said is the real issue between both of them.a
Helll no dude. I remember the megadeth forums having the coolest and kindest people of any fan group. Dave actually shut the forums down because they kept making light of his behavioral issues towards band mates and crew.
They all voted for Trump too. Mustaine claims he hates Trump as a person but loves his policies. As far back as 2012 Mustaine was calling for a revolution because Obama won the election (Chuck Norris did a television add telling Republicans that voting for Obama would result in an apocalypse of biblical proportions). Dave also claimed that he had the same idea for a border wall as Trump, which is why he claims to have voted for him. Basically Mustaine said the same about Trump as people say about Mustaine when they say "I love his band and guitar playing but hate him as a person". If you hate him as a person, don't support his band. Dave only turned on Trump because it was hurting his image and sales, he's still a Far Right Conservative like Kid Rock and Ted Nugent.
I agree with Jr.'s take on Mustaine he is most definitely not over the fact he got kicked out of MetallicA. Now Dave M. continues to treat his band members like he was treated and to his own demise 🤘
I'm trying to imagine Mustaine saying, "Yeah, that's a dumbass part, but it's OK to leave it in." Really? Can you seriously imagine Mustaine saying that? Mustaine has always struck me as a mercurial person. Given what he has shared about his childhood I suspect there's a part of him that is emotionally stuck. Anger, resentment and revenge has fueled him for most of his life. As for being a Christian...bwa ha ha ha ha. If he wants to think so.
I actually really enjoyed the weird intro in king maker. I thought it really added something special to that song. It just saddens me that Dave was the only one who didn’t like it
Because it's not the 90s anymore. Megadeth just isn't the draw they used to be. Personally I think it sucks that that garbage band even exists at all, I don't really get why anyone likes them at all, but oh well... time marches on and trends change.
Anyone who knows Megadeth's and Dave's history knows that this has been an abusive relationship since they first met each other. Jeff Young even said that Mustaine made Ellefson bring him drugs to Chuck E Cheese and threatened to fire him if he didn't. As much as I love Megadeth's music, the new album sucks, and Dave's personality has turned off longtime fans like myself for a long time now. I lost a whole lot of respect for him when he said onstage that Obama staged a mass shooting to promote gun control legislation. We all knew he was a little crazy, but that, like WTF dude?
Never heard the Chuck E Cheese story...Young has done some not so great things too, like hitting on Mustaine's fiancé, but it may be true. I totally agree with you about the BS conservative psycho stuff. No one should every start or end a sentence with "staged mass shooting..." I'm not a fan of Obama (I'm HARD left) but that is just dumb.
Sounds like Jr. Is taking the high road and good on him for doing so. Mustaine has a lot of demons but that is part of what fuels his creativity and aggression. From a distance it makes his art engaging and fascinating but up close but I have no doubt that his fire often scorches those around him. In my opinion the line up with James Lomezo on bass in 2007 was one of the best ever and the current lineup is perhaps the best in the history of the band. So, I am personally thrilled with the change and hope this line up stays around as long as long as possible. Best wishes and best of luck to Ellefson, keep on the high road🤟
Lot's of ego being thrown out here. I think Dave Mustaine forgets how he was affected by being fired by Metallica and I think that will always be a sore spot for Dave.
Heck the guy was a big part of the band. He has tried taking the high road. Mustaine is running the man down. I can't blame the guy for voicing his opinion. It's not like Ellefson had came out first. He's been silent. Mustaine is the one who keeps going to the media about Dave.
I mean up until Ellefson's recent interview all he's said about the situation was that he was disappointed, but hoped they would work together again at some point. Dave's the one who keeps bringing shit up.
Imagine being married for forty long years through good times and bad, and then suddenly blammo, you're thrown out of the house on your ass, and your ex is talking massive shit about you not just to your friends, but to the whole music media. On top of that, there's a lot of money at stake with Ellefson reportedly legally having been a shareholder in Megadeth Incorporated... that's a real messy "divorce." That's how long those two have been working and touring together, and yeah being in a band really is kind of like a marriage. It's gonna take a while for anyone to just move on and get over it, no matter what they say.
He has the right to give his side of the story before all of this Dave E was respectful but Mustaine just had to open his mouth and talk shit so Dave E has the right to defend himself
Megadeth hasn't really released any unique records in the last 20 years. Endgame was good, but it's not Countdown or Rust in Peace. Heavy on the drums and lots of double bass, pentatonic chuggy riffs that sound a lot alike, Mustaine sing-talking over the whole thing. They're all Mustaine records wearing the Megadeth brand, which is fine if that's what you're trying to do. The latter albums lack the chemistry and creativity of the earlier ones. Mustaine has always hired super talented band members and it's served him well, but when you don't allow their strengths to come through in the music, you might as well just record all the parts yourself and just hire a band for touring. For example, he had Chris Broderick, a classically trained guitar player who can go lick for lick with Jeff Loomis. An amazing talent in any bandmate; and you can count the number of Broderick's credits on one hand. He's got Kiko Loureiro now who's stuff in Angra is very different, and a departure from Megadeth. Dave should be asking Kiko for more than just solos and lead runs. But I get the feeling we're seeing the end of Megadeth. Soon it's going to get into a place where Mustaine is just hiring touring musicians and turns Megadeth into a cover band of it's own back catalog.
Ah yes, another one who doesn't know what the term means. How is it grooming if she admits to being the one who initiated everything? He could have and should have nipped in the bud, but that doesn't qualify as grooming.
The current lineup seems to have good chemistry and they look like they have fun while playing live. The only exception is Mustaine, who comes off as a tired and bitter old man, still fighting his internal strife. He ruins their live sets, has his guitar amps cranked louder than anything else, it just sounds like shit. Booting out Jr was hypocritical and convenient.
Let's be honest. Megadeth was always Megadave. It was always what Mustaine wanted. Other members of the band are just hired guns. He's basically a solo artist.
with good reason, it's his name signing the contracts with label, and putting up the money for the records, production, promotion, tour, staff, etc...

If they are talking about the first 15 seconds Intro of Kingmaker, I really don’t understand the big controversy. The bass thematically sets up the helicopter sound for the king.
The controversy would likely come down to how publishing works. If you add a melodic part to a song they you are part owner and you get more money...which is fine, unless:
Either A) Mustaine said "everybody write something cool!" and then forgot, like Ellefson says.

As guitarist!!! he's the best! as human being, he's not the best!
Well said I agree with you completely. I saw them in 2005 and 2007 I think, both times without Ellefson. I really wanted to see him play in the band. Kind of sad he is not in the band anymore.
Completely agree
Gross.
It has always been "The Mustaine Band" from day one! Nothing new there!
Can’t disagree.
Ellefson "what? No warning,no second chance"? Dave Mustaine stops, turns head and looks straight into the camera.
Typically with sexual related scandals there's no opportunity for a second chance, the stigma of what Ellefson did is more detrimental to a public image than someone being a drunk.
Mustaine was right to kick out a person who committed sexual misconduct.

9 out of the 12 new songs are co-written by Kiko and Dirk…

When he fired me I felt like I got kicked out of hell. Only problem is I was the founding member and that asshole just joined. He had no right to fire me. But since the other two are afraid of him they went with his orders.
@@etallikesmetal9826 you let yourself get kicked out of your own band..?
Dave and Junior both formed Megadeth in the fall of 1983. Mustaine did come up with the name, Megadeth and wrote most of the tunes, but Junior was there from day 1.
Dave wouldn't have let a riff he thought was "really dumb" stay in the album. He's being passive-aggressive and petty.
If Dave Mustaine is mad about anything it's probably the negative publicity that Ellefson brought to the band last year.
You represent more than the just the band there are a lot of moving parts such as guitar techs, drum techs, management.
He could've ruined a lot of jobs.
Yep
Sponsors could have just said no and ruin any collaboration with anybody that Megadeth could have had. Glad that didnt happen.

Yup. They are trying to twist words without context at all.
What ever happened this new album kicks ASS!!🤘 that said I wish they could get along. I've listened to megadeth since I was a teenager in the 80s!!
Idk I’m still a Megadeth even with knowing how inflated Dave Mustaine’s ego is and how much of an asshole he is.
@@JJ-mu9ev You mean you get bored of Dave's showboating to pwn Metallica? Me too.
I don't want more line up changes, Dave, Kiko, Dirk and James fit perfectly
The continuous lineup change is proof of bad management.
Ellefson tried to sue Mustaine, the fact that he was even allowed to rejoin says a lot
Thats actually not hard to believe as Mustaine spews out whatever shit he wants to say as he thinks he's right all the time
Mustaine has always been a smart A. Anyone joining that band has to know that going in. I think it has to do with the way he was raised. His childhood was rough and had an affect on him. Every interview I’ve ever read or heard by Mustaine he’s always condescending of someone or something. It’s just the way he is.
you're spot on actually
Ellefson is such a sweet guy, the whole thing is just sad.
exactly (
Mustaine doesn’t let anything go. I’m sure he’s still pissed at the doctor that slapped his ass, after he was born. David has been far too gracious, and keeping things “respectful”. Glad he stood up for himself, hopefully MegaDave can move on.
Dave probably taught that doctor everthing he knows about medicine. I don't think the doctor even passed any of his exams because Dave passed 'em all!
@@Omar24Music I mean, that's how Dave tells the story.
He CLEARLY has not moved on at all
Fanboy much?
The bass intro is awesome!
Lol I didn’t think the kingmaker part wasnt that bad
But the guy who cheated on his wife does?
@@phadrus I’m not protecting anybody. Neither guy is a model citizen. They’ve both made some retarded life choices. Only one seems to be getting on their high-horse over it.
David Ellefson quit during the Capitol Records fall out. Then sued his way back into the band only after Dave got another record label. Which led to an uncomfortable relationship for everyone involved with the band. For him to act like he doesn’t know where the hostility came from and just blame Dave is BS, he knows exactly what the problem was.

@@Grodd70 He wasn't invited back in. Re-read what I wrote. I can't get into to many details about it.
He has not achieved as much he’s jealous he thinks he’s better than them but they don’t sell as well but obviously more than most bands

I agree with Mustaine, Ellefson screwed up
I think Dave never forgave Junior for suing him.
Yes, it didn’t make sense to me either. Clearly Ellefson is hurt but it’s his fault.
As a music fan I don’t give two shits about either one of their riff raffs with each other. The way I look at it is I get a kick ass Megadeth album and from the first song that I’ve heard off of Elleson/Soto that isn’t bad either. Win win.
Megadeth is one of my favorite bands but let’s be honest, Dave is a jerk. No wonder metallica kicked him out.
well. that was 40 years ago. but Dave is still known for being a jerk lol

High school drama at its finest.
Even better, Ellefson doesn't have to hang around Dave Mustaine anymore.
It's Dave on Dave crime, people.
I agree the part on Kingmaker doesn’t go. It seems cut short. He should have played a 16th note pedal tone note in the end to blend it better.
I honestly feel bad for Dave mustaine cuz he's been through a lot and it's still striving and thriving. As we all have our flaws and I love Dave Ellison's bass playing and it sucks that they aren't getting along but it does sound like something else that isn't being said is the real issue between both of them.a
Love Megadeth! Dave has and always will be a world class Megadick.
You notice how the "only Megadeth" fans have the same personality as Mustaine? 🤣😂
I'm realy like Megadeth but Mustane is terrible person. When everyone who was around him said that, it must be true then. ;)
😂
Basically fuck Ted, Kid, Chuck and Dave Mustaine. I don't watch WWE either because fuck Vince & Linda McMahon too.
If you think Dave isn't a christian just because he has character flaws, you've completely missed the point of Christianity.
Prove he’s not a Christian, you can’t. Bwa ha ha.
I think your right, if Dave Mustaine didn't like that intro, it would never have made it to the record
I actually really enjoyed the weird intro in king maker. I thought it really added something special to that song. It just saddens me that Dave was the only one who didn’t like it
WHY is Megadeth OPENING for that garbage band?!?! Blasphemy.
Because it's not the 90s anymore. Megadeth just isn't the draw they used to be. Personally I think it sucks that that garbage band even exists at all, I don't really get why anyone likes them at all, but oh well... time marches on and trends change.
Megadeth used to play arenas by themselves, now they’re opening for 5 flavor fruit punch? I’d be mad to.
Love Megadeth, but totally believe Ellefson says about Mustaine
David Ellefson is a great person. He took the high road. I really feel David has been very honest and straight-forward person.

What ellefsons saying is not stuff that a man who's "moved on" would be saying
Heck the guy was a big part of the band. He has tried taking the high road. Mustaine is running the man down. I can't blame the guy for voicing his opinion. It's not like Ellefson had came out first. He's been silent. Mustaine is the one who keeps going to the media about Dave.
And the same can be said For "Super " Dave Mustwang
I mean up until Ellefson's recent interview all he's said about the situation was that he was disappointed, but hoped they would work together again at some point. Dave's the one who keeps bringing shit up.
Imagine being married for forty long years through good times and bad, and then suddenly blammo, you're thrown out of the house on your ass, and your ex is talking massive shit about you not just to your friends, but to the whole music media. On top of that, there's a lot of money at stake with Ellefson reportedly legally having been a shareholder in Megadeth Incorporated... that's a real messy "divorce."
That's how long those two have been working and touring together, and yeah being in a band really is kind of like a marriage.
Not as abusive as grooming a 18 year old. It might be legal but it’s gross. That girl old enough to be his granddaughter
Ah yes, another one who doesn't know what the term means. How is it grooming if she admits to being the one who initiated everything? He could have and should have nipped in the bud, but that doesn't qualify as grooming.
Too many fans give Dave Mustaine a pass, it’s disgusting. If he treats his band mates and friends like this, imagine how he’d treat YOU.
Didn't he just get kicked out for grooming a 18yr old.
