"Don't cry child, you've got so much more to live for, don't cry child, you've got something I would die for" - those lyrics are getting me through the night right now :)
I only started listening to Laura Marling yesterday after I picked up the GQ magazine and read the music section and I fell in love with her music instantly. She was highlighted above the likes of Florence and the Machine, Noah and The Whale and Mumford and Sons
I love that everybody loves it and says 'I love' for everything! It's so brilliant and I like that it has a bit of a story behind it, it makes it easier to remember the words. :) Thankyou for this it's been an obsession for two weeks - I fall asleep to it sometimes.I also love that nobody has argued over it which seems to be the case on most youtube videos today. :( I'll stop now about how much I truly love it now. :| x
I love this because it reminds you that good things will happen even if things are REALLY shit at the time. "And if it comes to the rain, just be glad you'll smile again because so many don't" SO TRUE :D
the chorus always makes me think of my friend. She tried to kill herself and had to learn to smile again. "Don't cry child, you've got so much more to live for. Don't cry child, you've got something I would die for And if it comes to the rain, just be glad you'll smile again 'Cause so many don't. And so many go unnamed." It touches me every time. All her music is so beautiful.
i think i'm gonna buy the cd even if i live in switzerland...i've done that for johnny flynn, so why not with her?!yeah, i'm gonna do that right now... anyway another great song!!(all her songs are amazing!)
Dear Caramel, I know your life is hard, I know that you feel as if you are alone, I know that you are under a lot of pressure in everything in your precious life, but please remember this song and everyone that cares about you. By you simply waking up everyday, you make those lives a little (or A LOT) better, please believe me. "Don't cry child, You've got so much left to live for, Don't cry child, You've got something I would die for And if it comes to the rain, Just be glad You'll smile again Because so many don't And so many go, Un-named" I wish I could say something to you personally that would help, but I know you've heard everything anybody has to say and I'm a million miles away from seeing your warming smile and eyes from Colombia. No words of mine could ever express my emotions for you. I love you Ana.
If this song makes me feel better about something that makes me feel like a failure, does it mean that this song is just very good or that my problem is just very minor?
@CentralNewButterfly It means she's touched your heart with her words and I'm sure that she would be so happy just knowing that she had helped one person feel better. I know that's how I would feel. We don't need to be a well known singer to do that...sometimes, it's just a kind word or a smile at a bus top that can do the same. Problems are usually survivable...we get past them and when we reflect on them years later, they may seem small but, we know they felt all encompassing when we were in the middle of them.
@xxsalbxx You know those times in your life, when you want something so bad, and you try hard for it but you keep failing, and you start to question if it is worth it to try again, but you are sad that you may never get it if you stop trying. That feeling is what this song is about. Sometimes people fail at one thing, and give up trying anything. They just fade into the background. However, everyone fails at life--it they didn't they would have nothing to learn. Look forward, not back.
***** Thanks for that. She's so much more than a "failure". She writes songs that touch all age groups. This was truly brilliant for her young age. What talent she has!
"if he made me in his image ,then he is a failure too" love it
(or im not)
"Don't cry child, you've got so much more to live for, don't cry child, you've got something I would die for" - those lyrics are getting me through the night right now :)
As a musician myself, its artists and songs like these that keep me inspired and serve as a reminder of how powerful music really can be =)
This song is so bittersweet and broken, I love it. Probably my favorite of Laura Marling's songs.
I only started listening to Laura Marling yesterday after I picked up the GQ magazine and read the music section and I fell in love with her music instantly. She was highlighted above the likes of Florence and the Machine, Noah and The Whale and Mumford and Sons
Again, mystically freaking awesome, lol. I love this girl's music. And her soul!

I just found this girl and it makes my day everytime I listen to her... :)
WOW! Just discovered this music. What a talent. Beautiful.
This song makes me want to learn guitar. If any of my friends or family are feeling down, I could play this song for them and cheer them up.
6 March 2020, I love this song 💜
I love this because it reminds you that good things will happen even if things are REALLY shit at the time. "And if it comes to the rain, just be glad you'll smile again because so many don't" SO TRUE :D
I adore her music. Always puts me in a good mood.
I love this version with the heavier music...I've only heard the more acoustic guitar based one. Thanks for posting it!
I love her in her depressing poetic beauty :)

What a beautiful and empathetic message,@dakielster. You've touched more than just Caramel. You unknowingly touched me as well. Thank you.

OH GOD SHE'S GOOD
her songs are so interesting
i think that this song saved me
But Laura's not a failure...
she like an angel
I love Laura. How can she be overshadowed by Adele?? her music is a million times bettter. Laura's on a whole new page too most though. . .
"The more things change, the more they stay the same."
@xxsalbxx

I'm just thinking about Alex Turner when I listening .......and I'M CRY NOW!!!!!!!!
If He made me in His image, then He's a failure too.
man made god in his image.
Made me weep
LOVEloveLOVE x
Didn't she write this when she was about 17? I'm still amazed by this, it's such a brilliant tune.
According to Laura, she was 14 and "Failure" was the first song she wrote and completed.
***** Thanks for that. She's so much more than a "failure". She writes songs that touch all age groups. This was truly brilliant for her young age. What talent she has!
I'm the only one listening to this in 2019
No.
"I gave up something
and I gave it up for nothing
and I'm a failure now "
:)
Would that lyrics could be manifest in the real world.
@MrsNezbit my favourite too, im thinking of getting that quote tattoed :)
i want this woman
Sounds like Jay Foreman's Renault Twingo
@evmiller12 you cant base the WHOLE song on that line :)
@doodlechick118 Oh my God! I think that might've been me!! (It's anna)
what's her popularity got to do with her music?
this song is either about carl barat or pete doherty....
reminds me of Red Dwarf - Tongue Tied haha
Who's here from that one comment Jay Foreman made? Just me? Okay...
now there are two of them
does anyone know who this is about,
i'm probably wrong but could this be about charlie fink (from noah and the whale)
AND she was only 14 when she wrote this!
don't like her new stuff at all but loved the album she wrote when just 17 and this song in particular.
If anyone here knows Weird Al, let him know that he should do a polka version of this song, about Popeye, called "Sailor".
Feeling like it's my -
+Francesca Morganti (This time, this is the end.)
You're not the only one? SCORE!
you will never guess what the 12 people who disliked this video are
Poor Charlie Fink
know the lyrics to a song.
aaahhhgg!!! i love her lyrics, but the chorus is a dangling preposition!!!! "sommuch more for which to live". grrr.... schmoe.
Oi tom
I'm not offended, hah, I just don't get why you seem to be offended. You can't correct someone for liking something. That's just plain silly.
how the fuck did she make money from this?!?!?
what a beautiful song
