Yes! I couldn’t have said it better myself. I listen to this bescuse some things came back to me, some series Rewatch after 16 years. And back at the country I so badly want to make better memories off. But this country is getting into sivil war.. I mixed the news videos with this song, and it hit the rock, so warm and yet so sad; country I want to visit but Chile my parents homeplace is in hurt..
This is what everyone needs to experience before they die. Go on a nice scenic drive on a back road and play this song with the windows down and the sun shining. Its truly magical
Nike Raikage OH GODD YESS!...I’ve never commented on a post but I’ve never related to a comment so much like yours...I’ve always had this vision in my head of this song being played like you said
I initially heard this song on Orange Is The New Black & instantly fell in love. The song fit the scene so well, as Piper was getting transferred to the Chicago detention center. The scene was very bittersweet & that’s the exact vibe I get from this song. It’s happiness, but melancholy is right around the corner. Reminds me of my ex for some reason
It's beautiful to hear this song while driving through the streets of Chicago with who you hope will be the love of your life. Nothing but happiness and joy and wonder. I love this song. It makes me so happy!
My friend Andrew died of cancer back in 2021. He was a kind beautiful soul, so much light he brought. Everytime I hear this song I think of him and his wife for some reason. Rest in Peace dude, you were THE homie.
I'm from Chicago, and though there are times when I hate my city and just want to run away from the congestion and the grime, this song reminds me of all the things I love about it... Its idiosyncrasies, its character, all that make it home to me. Right now I'm in the highlands of Scotland, and though I am sad to go back home soon and leave this beautiful country, this song reminds me of why I call it home and everything I have to look forward to. Love you Andrew Bird and I wish you were still holed up in good ol' Logan Square instead of out in California. Chicago misses you! 💗
He is Polsiye. He is doing the thing with his voice like how we play our violin melodies. He is using very very ood music and making into Pop! Its wonderful 🎉🎉
This song reminds me of cuddling up on cold nights and drinking warm tea, or dancing slowly with the one you love, soft kisses and then passionate love making, long phone calls and love letters, bike rides and long walks. This song just makes me so freaking happy.
Of course there was no way to know before finding it, but this was the comment I got on the internet for today. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful piece of life. A suggestion: if you add a syllable to the last sentence, you end up with a haiku. Perhaps “all music”?
Dear Andrew, when I am listing to this song, all my half-baked attempts at life seem alright. I feel like it's okay to be upbeat about them. So thanks.
Honestly, I'm not gonna say "Orange is the new black brought me here" but oh my god. If it didn't I would have gone my whole life without hearing this song. It's incredible.
As a fiddler myself, I really appreciate the new ground Andrew is breaking with the violin in pop music. It is something new under the sun. And as someone who loves Chicago, I am glad he has given this gift of a song to a great city.
This tied in so perfectly with the state of confusion, loneliness and sadness Piper was in while being brought in the other penitentiary in Chicago. The shots of the city’s skyline, the river, the bus getting through all of it. Beautifully directed, really. It created the sense of melancholy they were probably after. Oh and do we want to mention the strings in this one?
When I hear this song I think about the relaxing walks on campus I would have Freshman hear. It was something so simple yet reminiscing about it now makes me teary. Just walking to my doorm in the always beautiful Athens ga and thinking about my new life, my future and my place in the world. What an exciting time
Love my city! Thank you so much for writing and sharing this song with the community. I moved away for college and now I am in Louisiana. I listen to this song when I am homesick. Pulaski was my stopping grounds when I went to my Dads house. Let me tell you! Pulaski street runs through a lot of neighborhoods and captures the blend that chicago brings. I really do miss my city but this comforts me when I miss my family, friends, and ultimately what I call home..
I remember when the episode with this song aired, I believe the first episode of season 2 either 2013 or possibly 14 but I believe it was still 2013 so try 7 years lol. There was something about them playing this unique song when they did and how they did as Piper is being processed into the rather horrifying looking Federal MDC in Chicago...and at that moment her and us viewers believing she was in there for a totally different reason HAHA
Every time I hear this song, I feel this sudden urge of happiness in the pit of my stomach as I recall the flights I took in and out of Chicago to see my fiancé while he was away for work.
Half empty, half full Cup runneth over Horns of plenty, coffers full We're starting over Half empty, half full Cup runneth over Horns of plenty, coffers full We're starting over I write you a story But it loses its thread And all of my witnesses Keep turning up, keep turning up dead I paint you a picture Of Pulaski at night Come back to Chicago City of, city of light Come back to Chicago I paint you a picture But it never looks right Cause I fill in the shadows And block out the, I block out the light I send you a postcard It says, "Pulaski at night" Greetings from Chicago City of, city of light Come back to Chicago City of, city of light Come back to Chicago
Thank you Andrew Bird for this beautiful song. It resonates so much with me Especially growing up & living on the south side & on Pulaski. Working downtown & all my many adventures & all the hard times too. I went to high school at curie on archer & Pulaski. It means so much to me. & you literally touched my heart & sang it so beautifully ♡
me too!!! Went to John Hancock. This reminds me of all the times I walked down south pulaski after school and grabbing the orange line for a quick stop to downtown and grabbing a slurpee.
When you meet a kindred song you've always felt and desired to hear but you never knew it existed until you hear it for the first time. This song is making me weep but I'm so happy at the same time!!!!!......WOW!WOW!WOW!
I moved from Chicago to Italy 3 years ago and haven’t been able to go back and whenever I play this song I just want to cry… I want to be in Chicago again ❤️
I met a guy once by happenstance. We hit it off, and then nothing happened, which I’m alright with. But this song always reminds me of the many evenings I spent during a fall semester writing bioethics essays, writing scenes for a novel about a Chicago man begging for his lover to come back to him, and listening to this song out in a cold plaza as the moon rose and the sky turned a perfect royal blue. I grew up near Pulaski. Things worked out for the novel, and things didn’t with the guy I met at the library. I don’t mean to come on here with a story that’s particularly interesting, unique, quirky, or beautiful, but it still is an odd period of time in my life that I’m strangely nostalgic for. I had different fears and different challenges then, and the only reason I think I find myself finding comfort in the past as opposed to the future is knowing that for my past self, things worked out. None of us really ever have that comfort to give to our future selves, no matter how steady and sure we shore up the foundations of our lives.
"I paint you a picture But it never looks right ...'Cause I fill in the shadows And block out the, I block out the light; Come back to Chicago" As if my soul finally has a voice❤️

Andrew, your talent is uncomprehensible. When i was around 6 or 7 we took a road trip in a van from Texas to Canada, my dad would always play his soundtrack of camping music. We would always listen to this song and all of the others, it was just breathtaking being out there and taking this trip with that. I never knew the artist of the song until recently I found you name again. I played this song and it is so nostalgic and warm. Thank you for the memories you gave me and the music to get through hard times.
i think its awesome that so many people come to andrew birds music from different places. andrew bird has been one of my favorite musicians ever since i was just a little kid when my dad used to play his music in his truck. i even got to see bird perform live two years ago which was awesome (he played this song, if i remember) here in michigan. what i love is that so many people hear one of his songs just one time and they have to look him up on youtube because they liked it too.
I'm here because my daughter wears an orange shirt to bed almost every night in an effort to prevent gun violence in neighborhoods. I love her and it helps I've been a fan since the emusic/sisyphus days. Even prior.
Orange is the new black show me this but omg it's so beautiful! His voice with instrumentals, wow, it has a holw echo about it that you feel like you want to walk in to the music and yet if you do will you miss something so your left aching for more as if not able to feel it all and you know it's right there! I love it!!
I don't see anything wrong with commenting how you got here. Tons of people from different fandoms have connected here and if you have a problem with it, grow up. It's not worth your complaints.
I had the privilege of seeing him live and I doubt I will ever feel the way I did that night again, it was truly the most fantastic thing I have ever witnessed.

Every Andrew creation is touched by God. I am an atheist, but there is no explanation for such thing.
Andrew Bird and Beirut are my ideal scenic drive music.

Chicago deserves a great new pop song, and this is it. When this tune starts rolling it pulls me right along with it.
