Always felt this song was about wanting to give someone everything but not being capable of enough.
just the thought is enough. i know.
The violin part makes me beyond happy
Me too☺️
Makes me cry for some reason
Erin Muchlinski It makes me feel exactly the same ^^ Happens with other songs with similar chords and instruments too !

Yes! I couldn’t have said it better myself. I listen to this bescuse some things came back to me, some series Rewatch after 16 years. And back at the country I so badly want to make better memories off. But this country is getting into sivil war.. I mixed the news videos with this song, and it hit the rock, so warm and yet so sad; country I want to visit but Chile my parents homeplace is in hurt..
I get a strange nostalgic feeling from this song, eventough ive never heard this song before..
Oh my goodness, me same
omg same it just feels so comforting and familiar idk
Yes well except I have heard it before when I was younger . But nostalgia all the way
wtf me too
+ki “dragonbeam189” stephen how old are you this song is only 3 years old
I initially heard this song on Orange Is The New Black & instantly fell in love. The song fit the scene so well, as Piper was getting transferred to the Chicago detention center. The scene was very bittersweet & that’s the exact vibe I get from this song. It’s happiness, but melancholy is right around the corner. Reminds me of my ex for some reason
true, i love piper
This is what everyone needs to experience before they die. Go on a nice scenic drive on a back road and play this song with the windows down and the sun shining. Its truly magical
This is how I first heard this song. On a road trip with some friends. :)
Or go to an Andrew bird show 🤷🏼♀️
Nike Raikage OH GODD YESS!...I’ve never commented on a post but I’ve never related to a comment so much like yours...I’ve always had this vision in my head of this song being played like you said
Or during night with a sky full of stars ✨
My experience before I die is digging my own grave
0:40 to 1:00 were the best 20 seconds of UA-cam I have ever heard
yea thats what got me into this song
im here bc of a phan edit

It's beautiful to hear this song while driving through the streets of Chicago with who you hope will be the love of your life. Nothing but happiness and joy and wonder. I love this song. It makes me so happy!
This is so sweet i hope that person is still the love of your life and if not i hope you are still happy
hely elizabeth. did it work out?
Good to know. Hope you guys are doing well rn
Hope you are still happy together 🤍
Her silence is disconcerting to say the least...
Andrew Bird and Beirut are my ideal scenic drive music.
My friend Andrew died of cancer back in 2021. He was a kind beautiful soul, so much light he brought. Everytime I hear this song I think of him and his wife for some reason. Rest in Peace dude, you were THE homie.
Sorry for your loss😢
Sorry for your friend man RIP Andrew 🙏🏼🕊️
I'm sure Andrew is rocking to this banger somewhere thinking of you, Anastasia
Honestly, I'm not gonna say "Orange is the new black brought me here" but oh my god. If it didn't I would have gone my whole life without hearing this song. It's incredible.
I feel the same wayy

I’m from Chicago and got so excited when seeing my city
My impeccable music taste brought me here
I wish I had a impeccable music taste like you, babe
hopefully entertaining that was so nice omg
Nice taste in music, might I recommend "Some minds" by Flume, although it's got a small electronic part, the start is pure bliss.
Well aren't you special
Where to go from here though?
This is the last song we talked about with my dad. He loved music
RIP

Of course there was no way to know before finding it, but this was the comment I got on the internet for today. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful piece of life. A suggestion: if you add a syllable to the last sentence, you end up with a haiku. Perhaps “all music”?
@@scottselliers1672 Thank you for your kind words. Music connects us with beautiful memories
And consoles us during the sad ones 🤗🥲🫂 R.i.P
I'm from Chicago, and though there are times when I hate my city and just want to run away from the congestion and the grime, this song reminds me of all the things I love about it... Its idiosyncrasies, its character, all that make it home to me. Right now I'm in the highlands of Scotland, and though I am sad to go back home soon and leave this beautiful country, this song reminds me of why I call it home and everything I have to look forward to. Love you Andrew Bird and I wish you were still holed up in good ol' Logan Square instead of out in California. Chicago misses you! 💗
This song reminds me of cuddling up on cold nights and drinking warm tea, or dancing slowly with the one you love, soft kisses and then passionate love making, long phone calls and love letters, bike rides and long walks. This song just makes me so freaking happy.
this song make me happy
Me too☺️
+Maude Croisetière *makes
+Maude Croisetière it always helps me when i'm in one of my low moods
The way his voice drags - so beautiful, like it's own instrument
He is Polsiye. He is doing the thing with his voice like how we play our violin melodies. He is using very very ood music and making into Pop! Its wonderful 🎉🎉
Every Andrew creation is touched by God. I am an atheist, but there is no explanation for such thing.
I WAS here because I heard this on OITNB and now I keep coming back because I'm in love
i've come back to this song often over the past few years, because it's a very good song. but recently it feels like my entire life has fallen apart, and after having to make a drastic and sudden move, it's been helping me keep my cool in the face of the uncertainty of it all. this feels like it's the end of my world, like i'm failing my past self in every sense, but this music does help me sift through the chaos in my head. maybe there will be some light in this.
Every ending leads to a beginning
@@EverythingandnothingP it does. you're right. i just got out of a mental hospital a few days ago, and now that i've gotten help, everything feels so much clearer. everything burns and then new things grow from it.
@ you can ask the universe for help too, never forget.
I'm not sure of how many times I've listened to this song. But I am convinced that anything this guy creates is nothing but pure magic.
This song shows how good a violin can be. Absolutely brilliant
this song is serotonin
This tied in so perfectly with the state of confusion, loneliness and sadness Piper was in while being brought in the other penitentiary in Chicago. The shots of the city’s skyline, the river, the bus getting through all of it. Beautifully directed, really. It created the sense of melancholy they were probably after. Oh and do we want to mention the strings in this one?
Exactly. It's the kind of melancholy you get from a road trip/travelling + people-watching. In her case, well maybe a bit different.
who is Piper?
@@polygonmap she’s a character in the Netflix show ‘Orange is the New Black’. This song plays in the second season.
S2E1: Thirsty Bird
Chicagoan here. You really don't want to be in Pulaski at night! But the song really fits the perfect nighttime rides in Chicago :)
I was pumped when I heard this in OitNB.
mramerecka oathhhhhhh
Dear Andrew, when I am listing to this song, all my half-baked attempts at life seem alright. I feel like it's okay to be upbeat about them. So thanks.
I met a guy once by happenstance. We hit it off, and then nothing happened, which I’m alright with. But this song always reminds me of the many evenings I spent during a fall semester writing bioethics essays, writing scenes for a novel about a Chicago man begging for his lover to come back to him, and listening to this song out in a cold plaza as the moon rose and the sky turned a perfect royal blue. I grew up near Pulaski. Things worked out for the novel, and things didn’t with the guy I met at the library. I don’t mean to come on here with a story that’s particularly interesting, unique, quirky, or beautiful, but it still is an odd period of time in my life that I’m strangely nostalgic for. I had different fears and different challenges then, and the only reason I think I find myself finding comfort in the past as opposed to the future is knowing that for my past self, things worked out. None of us really ever have that comfort to give to our future selves, no matter how steady and sure we shore up the foundations of our lives.
This was beautiful.
Thank you OITNB, for introducing me to this incredible artist.
This song feels utterly magical to me.
I just finished The Young Pope and I had to visit the soundtrack. It was made beautifully by its music among other things.
I GOT SHIVERS AT THE VIOLINS
SAME D':
No way it's you, Maryam! It's Phil B! I just found this song earlier today
this is such a beautiful piece of music
I think so 😊
If you are ever on the verge of tears...
This will make them come.
saw him do this live last night. ahhh man, when that violin melody comes in I was brought to tears.
I saw him play last night too... I started to cry when he started singing. I loved the live version of this song!
idk why but this song makes me emotionally happy. Like I want to dance to it and cry at the same time.
Alyssa Mitchell same here
Thank you orange is the new black!
Since everyone is saying what brought them here I might as well ... Jesus brought me here amen hallelujah
When I hear this song I think about the relaxing walks on campus I would have Freshman hear. It was something so simple yet reminiscing about it now makes me teary. Just walking to my doorm in the always beautiful Athens ga and thinking about my new life, my future and my place in the world. What an exciting time
As a fiddler myself, I really appreciate the new ground Andrew is breaking with the violin in pop music. It is something new under the sun. And as someone who loves Chicago, I am glad he has given this gift of a song to a great city.
I have to thank Sorrentino that made me find out that good music is not dead!
Love my city! Thank you so much for writing and sharing this song with the community. I moved away for college and now I am in Louisiana. I listen to this song when I am homesick. Pulaski was my stopping grounds when I went to my Dads house. Let me tell you! Pulaski street runs through a lot of neighborhoods and captures the blend that chicago brings. I really do miss my city but this comforts me when I miss my family, friends, and ultimately what I call home..
The moment this song started playing during that last episode of The Young Pope I bursted into tears. THANKS.
so happy to be living in chicago while listening to this song c:
Andrew Bird is physiologically incapable of making bad music. He's simply made of awesome.
Half empty, half full
Cup runneth over
Horns of plenty, coffers full
We're starting over
Half empty, half full
Cup runneth over
Horns of plenty, coffers full
We're starting over
I write you a story
But it loses its thread
And all of my witnesses
Keep turning up, keep turning up dead
I paint you a picture
Of Pulaski at night
Come back to Chicago
City of, city of light
Come back to Chicago
I paint you a picture
But it never looks right
Cause I fill in the shadows
And block out the, I block out the light
I send you a postcard
It says, "Pulaski at night"
Greetings from Chicago
City of, city of light
Come back to Chicago
City of, city of light
Come back to Chicago
I thought it was saying city of love
General Maddie same
OOOHHHH Starting over! oooh, starting over.
@@generalmaddi6310 exactly what I googled
Thank you.
This song is truly beautiful...
Makes every moment precious.
"We're starting over"
Orange is the new black brought me here. Nice song! The violin part is awesome.
Am i the only person who can't quite get a grip on how she's feeling while listening to this? Happiness? Hope? Melancholy? It's haunting. But why?!? I get a similar feeling with The Association's "Never, My Love"
Laugh? Cry? I don't freaking know, lol!
Every time I hear this song, I feel this sudden urge of happiness in the pit of my stomach as I recall the flights I took in and out of Chicago to see my fiancé while he was away for work.
This song reminds me of my childhood with my father playing this on a Friday night, simpler times full of joy...... what I would give to go back
All the OITNB comments are 4-5 years old...and that makes me feel old 😳
Jajajjaaj welcome to quarentine 2020 jahahah
I remember when the episode with this song aired, I believe the first episode of season 2 either 2013 or possibly 14 but I believe it was still 2013 so try 7 years lol. There was something about them playing this unique song when they did and how they did as Piper is being processed into the rather horrifying looking Federal MDC in Chicago...and at that moment her and us viewers believing she was in there for a totally different reason HAHA
Es gracioso porque decidí buscar la canción apenas hoy porque comencé a ver de nuevo la serie :0
Y hce unos días al fin terminé con la temporada siete... XD
True
I first heard this on a danisnotonfire + Pooh Bear fan edit. Loved it so much I had to track it down. Been probably almost ten years now and it still brings me joy every time
omg I saw that edit years ago, please tell me you remember the creator?
Orange is the new black show me this but omg it's so beautiful! His voice with instrumentals, wow, it has a holw echo about it that you feel like you want to walk in to the music and yet if you do will you miss something so your left aching for more as if not able to feel it all and you know it's right there! I love it!!
I don't see anything wrong with commenting how you got here. Tons of people from different fandoms have connected here and if you have a problem with it, grow up. It's not worth your complaints.
Thank you so much Paolo Sorrentino, Jude Law and obviously The Young Pope
Good night, your holiness.
Good night, Pope Pius XIII.
You evolved so well.
Sound #FOM and God...
2:02. That's sooo beautiful omg
indeed☺
Thank you Andrew Bird for this beautiful song. It resonates so much with me
Especially growing up & living on the south side & on Pulaski. Working downtown & all my many adventures & all the hard times too.
I went to high school at curie on archer & Pulaski. It means so much to me. & you literally touched my heart & sang it so beautifully ♡
me too!!! Went to John Hancock. This reminds me of all the times I walked down south pulaski after school and grabbing the orange line for a quick stop to downtown and grabbing a slurpee.
this song makes me want to get on in a plane to find a new life somewhere far.
Chicago deserves a great new pop song, and this is it. When this tune starts rolling it pulls me right along with it. And as a fiddler myself I appreciate the strings very much -- I particularly I like the way he uses a strummed fiddle, and the pizz. with the fall offs. My thanks to Orange is the NB for letting me know about this guy and kudos to Andrew Bird for a great original song about a great city.
I love the violin music
this song is delightful
"I paint you a picture, but it never looks right, 'cause i fill in the shadows and block out, i block out the light" one of my favorite lyrics ever.
This is hands down my favorite song of all time, bloody brilliant
This song is so beautiful I'm crying
oh my god no joke i was watching orange is the new black and this song started playing and i just knew it had to be andrew bird even though i haven't heard this song. i love this man so much omfg
This song brings me such a melancholic since of comfort
I'm here because my daughter wears an orange shirt to bed almost every night in an effort to prevent gun violence in neighborhoods. I love her and it helps I've been a fan since the emusic/sisyphus days. Even prior.
I am addicted to this song
this song never fails to make me happy
the young pope brought me here.....and now i'm going crazy for this song! thx mr Sorrentino 👍
I moved from Chicago to Italy 3 years ago and haven’t been able to go back and whenever I play this song I just want to cry… I want to be in Chicago again ❤️
Thank you, from the Poles of Chicago.
Did anyone else find themselves chocking up cuz this song is kinda sad but so amazing? 🆔💜
Yesss
I full on cry listening to it
YES
This song is so beautiful, that you notice how sad it is. That's why I choke on tears when I hear this.
+Elizabeth Kraisler dude yes
Anyone else come because you've listened to Andrew Bird for a while
Jordy Sanchez Yes! Been listening to him for many, many years. Didn't need a shitty vine or whatever to find him.
Since yesterday! What kind of prize do I get?!
Yes, hi! Haha. An ex of sorts shared him with me, best thing I got from that relationship and Lord Huron.
exactly why i'm here!
Been listening to him for 5 years
LOVE the violins my god
This is my favorite song
Andrew, your talent is uncomprehensible. When i was around 6 or 7 we took a road trip in a van from Texas to Canada, my dad would always play his soundtrack of camping music. We would always listen to this song and all of the others, it was just breathtaking being out there and taking this trip with that. I never knew the artist of the song until recently I found you name again. I played this song and it is so nostalgic and warm. Thank you for the memories you gave me and the music to get through hard times.
Driving down Pulaski Street at night listening to this💆♂️
anyone else get a strange feeling when they listen to this song? Like they're sad and happy and restless and content all at the same time? This is good
I feel the same way!
I will never stop hearing this song. I first heard it on it's release, when it came out on WXRT. It's a real gem.
I'm not an important person, but you turned my 23 years, this topic is my favorite, GENIUSS!!!
A friend sent me this song cause it's totally a great song but I thought it had something to do with wildfire fighting - y'know, pulaskis and drip torches etc - cause I have a person who does that wild courageous job and I can completely visualize the pulaski at night, in the hand of an exhausted fire fighter, with the trees candling and the crew trucks idling and ready to get them the heck outa there, cinders falling, yeah, that's where I went with this beautiful song. Thanks, friend. Thanks, Andrew Bird. Thanks, firefighters. Never been to Chicago but I like the band Birds of Chicago.
This song is like a delicious piece of cake.
The young pope❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
