yeah, and you know my favorite part? "he couldn't see me, the sun was in his eyes." like, he was so manic he wouldn't pay any attention to her. love it.
I think she is singing about a person with Bipolar disorder also known as manic depression, I have it, so i can relate to this song so much. So beautiful and passionate, makes me cry :') She should of got all the publishing she deserved unlike artists like jason derulo ECT
I'm afraid you may have a confused definition of bipolar disorder. Bipolar people experience a full range of emotion, in fact they can go days, weeks & sometimes months or years without manic/depressive episodes (without medication the days/weeks is more typical). Even during episodes there is great variation in mood, they just go to greater extremes than is called for by a given situation.
being manic means there is no in-between with a persons emotions. they're either completely happy "his GOOD days deceive him" or they have their low days where a manic is depressed and in extremes suicidal. "he wants to die by a lake Geneva." or pretty much the entire first verse.
"Manic" is sort of like the opposite of depression; instead of being constantly upset and mopey someone with mania feels angry or excited at an unhealthy level/length of time. "Manic" is greek for 'frenzy, madness.' It's basically craziness. :3
okay one question - is it really "them eats"? "avoiding them eats"? that's all i've seen, is that what is says in the lyric book? is there some english lingo i don't understand? it's not like "their mates" or something sensical like that? i do love this song though. don't get me wrong. i just get a little hung up when i'm singin it.
There is no song that can sooner make me cry than this one.
This song breaks my heart, Laura Marling , you write songs like my old love was talking to me and me to her.

I wonder y I'e never heard of her until now...either she isn't promoted much, or I've been out of the musical talent loop 4 a bit {{LOL}}
Maybe that! I thought it was two sides of the same person and the war between both the personalities.

@Erick0Samantha ooooooo thanks
She's writing about bipolar disorder. Sounds like she may have it herself. I know Marcus Mumford has written songs about having bipolar as well.
A manic depressive is a person with bipolar disorder. It's the same conditions.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
@Mixiegotyourgun what does she say before MOUNTAINS? I think I can hear "By"... help! I'm not a native speaker...

This sounds like something the wife of a martyr (or someone who wants to become so?) would sing.
Or a drug addict

Amazing comment @Kevin haha!
No it doesn't, it means you're at an elevated sense of mood. To be bipolar means to experience no in-between emotions.
