The funny thing is that despite all of the criticism - apparently the M50 was the best-selling mirrorless camera of 2018. Canon must be laughing their heads off at all the other brand fanboys rubbishing this camera.
Finally.....what a great video....I am in total agreement. Some of these “professional “ photographers just don’t seem to grasp who this camera is for. All they can say is “it doesn’t do this, it doesn’t do that.” What do you expect at this price point. Do I wish this had the Dual pixel in 4K? Of coarse...but there is no,perfect camera...The camera is just a tool ...it’s the person behind it that makes the photograph. I just bought the M50, 22mm f2.0, 11-22 mm zoom, and the nifty fifty with an adaptor. I couldn’t be happier. Thanks again for the very down to earth view of this amazing camera.
Thanks for the great comment. Always great to hear. My next purchase for the camera will be the 10-18mm and 50mm (Nice little Canon Kit). I currently own the 50mm (nifty fifty) but would like the new one which has the silent autofocus. Thanks again for the comment, always appreciated!
One of my biggest hurdles as a hobbyist was all the horrible things people say about "introductory" cameras. These aren't sony point and shoot cameras. They're good. Going from a cellphone to a DSLR will make you feel like you could work for National Geographic. After getting mine I was appalled that people complain about these. After having mine a year I already want 4K and 120fps but that won't happen for awhile. It STILL wouldn't make me tell someone "don't get a Rebel, it's for kids."
Your video made me miss our family summer cabins. We had 2 cabins on Bear Head Lake in Ontario. I adored spending summers there with my grandparents. My favorite childhood memories!
Nice video, I appreciate your time and effort to sample the amazing footage the M50 produces. I also have an M50 but I’m only a beginner so when I see the potential in something I own it really excites me. 👍
Dazza thanks for the comment! I’m a big fan of the M50 and think that with a little patience it has the ability to shoot amazing 4K footage. Hope you’re having as much fun with your camera as I am!
I think the frustration is that Canon deliberately disabled the hardware to protect the sales of their more expensive cameras. The hardware is fully capable of using DPAF in 4K. I bought the m50 and am excited to see if I can get the most out of it.
that's right. Sony does put a lot of features into their mirrorless and Canon is losing customers too, Canon need to work on adding features on their cameras in general. BTW I love Canon cameras I have them, on the positive side I think Canon is more reliable than Sony.
whatsupdate I mean you’re also only paying $550 dollars for a camera that already has a ton of nice feature sets. It makes sense, companies do this all the time with cars, phones, computer parts. It’s just how it goes. I remember a time when you couldn’t get a camera with even a headphone jack for less than $1000
The only thing I would only strongly recommend is getting the Canon adapter for sure. The 3rd party adapters , might a little wiggle when attached to the camera . And for comfort sake; if you own L lenses , you would feel more comfortable with nice snugged parts . My opinion though
Sure, but I have both the Commlite and the Fotodiox adapters and both have worked flawlessly and I really haven't noticed any 'wiggle' on either. I did notice the screw on the tripod mount getting loose and I talked with Commlite and they were very fast to say that this would be something that they would look into. But if price isn't an issue then why not buy the Canon.
Thank you thank you for posting this. I personally could care less about 4K but I am happy that it is an option. The only videos I will be shooting are occasional clips and the 1080 with DPAF is awesome. Even the haters admit that. The camera also produces very good photos. So I got the camera because it suits my needs perfectly. I have several EF lenses and bought the fotodiox adapter. Also bought their adapter for the bunch of old FD glass that I own. As you mentioned the focus peaking works great on those manual focus lenses.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Ive been using this camera now for a couple months and love it. I have the fotodiox adapter as well, and just recently I bought the commlite adapter (just another brand). As I also bought the M100. Very happy with both cameras. But the M50 is definitely my goto camera with zero regrets!
Cruisn Canada most definitely. One thing for sure though, body will feel a lot better after a day of shooting with the M50 😂 The 1DX is one heavy beast of a camera
Gio Lee 100% agree. The M50 is so light. It was actually a little strange shooting with it at first as I used to shoot with a Canon 7D with battery grip which was so much heavier. I love shooting with the M50 now. Amazing little camera.
Dj Verrett completely agree. Love this little camera. Would have bought a second but for my needs I went and bought a little M100. Which I also really like! Thanks for the comment! Always appreciated!
I don’t understand it either, the hate or why people aren’t talking more about the M50. I did months of research for my first camera and finally landed on the M50 for a multitude of reasons. I won’t bore you with my thoughts but there were many more pros over the cons! There were many more cons over pros to getting a DSLR or a Sony.
Great video! Finally smart talk about this camera . I have m50 and I am very happy with it. If you know how to use 4K if you want to use it. What a great camera for price. Shout out from Slovakia (Europe) :)
Great video ... I was using my m50 in 1080p mostly but started using in 4k with my 11-22 lense f4-4.5 mostly , and AF not too bad , usable ... very surprising
Great video man. I like my m50 for video and for vlogging...but I think my 70d is better for doing time lapses. Cant install magic lantern on the m50 yet and also the m50 does not have a interval-meter jack but all in all? m50 is a great little camera
Thanks for the comment. There are definitely some features that are missing, but I do think that for the price its a great camera and I love the light weight of this camera. Ive always had large cameras (still have my 7D with grip) but carrying this one around is so nice with being so light. Plus I really do like the colours that come out of Canon cameras in general. Thanks again for the comment, always great hearing others thoughts and opinions.
@@gregtoope no doubt its a great camera...I love it for vlogging and travel...cant fault it and with the adapter can use all my lenses. Love the lightness of it and tge color science in it 😁
Yes i have m50. For just a month . Awesome camera. . You won't be disappointed. . Takes some good photos also. The 1080. As some good coulers in video mode.. and the Mic is very good for picking up sound. . Enjoy
Ive been filming with this camera for around 2 months now and love it. Make sure to pick up a EF EF/S lens mount adapter so that you can play with all the EF lenses. You can pick up the non canon ones for pretty cheap. Then you can use all the amazing Canon EF lenses. Well worth the money.
4k on m50 is great if you do b roll on a static tripod, but handheld is not good mostly because of lack of dpaf and rolling shutter problems. I think people are just to spoiled nowdays, they expect the camera to do all for them. I think Canon put those limitations on m50 for two reason, one: not to ruin the salses on expensive models (more of a guess) secondly to avoid overheating which the rivals have some problem with mostly Sony and Fuji. Canon likes to have well balanced products.
Great video! I am a proud owner of the M50 as well. I love it! The 1080p is great at either 60 or 24fps, I have to admit being guilty of putting 4k footage on a 1080 timeline!😬, Never thought about it not actually being 4k after the render. Thanks for the heads up!!👍
Informative review..... But, I'm going to buy it after researching other cameras of similar functionalities. Who cares about 4k while you guys have not fully exploited the 1080 yet. This M50 sells now in Hong Kong at HK$3,900 (US$500) with the kit lense 15-45 for the white colour model; $50 (US$6.5) more for the black colour model. I will choose the black one thinking it's more mature for a guy like me at age 60. At this age, can't do too much low angel shooting without pain in the spine. So, with the articulating screen, this little guy should work good for me. I am now using Sony RX10 (first version). It's good. But, my wife finds it too heavy to shoot and refuses to share the fun of photo-shooting/traveling with me, and with it. So, have to turn to lighter ones. RX10 also does not have the articulating screen; not to mention the touch screen, even though it has a larger aparture at 2.8 and longer zoom range. Hope that I am on the right track of extending my shooting and travelling life with my wife. Cheers!
i am very happy with my white M50. The only unnecessary flaw is that the loss of dual pixel AF in 4K is because it has been intentionally done by Canon for marketing strategy reasons. The greed for money and competition is the root for most atrocities in human history and for planned obsolescence. Imagine what could be done and achieved if money and profit would not be the defining tool for what can and can´t be done! One company who is doing that what can be done mostly is TESLA. They´re not perfect and still in this system of fiat money but the innovation and genius is showing through. So Canon is to blame for building this limiting factor by design, sad! Still a very good camera!
Who is shooting in 4K?
Cruisn Canada I’m not! I don’t think most people watch in 4k either.
The funny thing is that despite all of the criticism - apparently the M50 was the best-selling mirrorless camera of 2018. Canon must be laughing their heads off at all the other brand fanboys rubbishing this camera.

I definitely love spending time at a cabin. This one was just a rental but still amazing. Great way to break free from the city and just relax.

possible, but if you look at the rivals they have better 4k but also they have overheating problema, maybe Canon wants to dodge such a problem

Got this a week ago. Haven’t touched it yet. Haven’t opened the box. Excited to see how it compares to the 1DX MKll
should be a cool comparison. let us know what you think once you test them.

Nothing better at this price range! Great camera I bought 2

I bought 2 too! One for my daughter one for myself. Its a great camera. Shouting out from Singapore!

So Glad that you enjoyed the video. It's a great camera, you just have to learn it's limitations and work within them. Thanks again for the comment!
The 4K is even at a better bit rate than most cameras. There’s lots to love
whatsupdate forsure. 120 Megabits/second. Gotta love that!

the quality is good and if you have a wide lens then it works pretty good. But you have to NOT rely on autofocus. As that is its biggest weakness.
Totally agree with your comments. Same reason I bought the m50 and it is great.
Definitely one of my favourite cameras. Hope you enjoy yours!
what is the best adapter to go with nifty 50 to use on this camera? (in budget)
I really like the fotodiox adapters.
