Hey Sagi, no flying letters, no dizzy effects, no screaming... Calm, informative and unfortunately very underrated channel. Finally found time to write it... Keep up your good work buddy...
Love this episode of "Pimp my camera" 😅 👍. Great set up! I used to leave the cage on, but I've recently really enjoyed using the M50 naked (with the peak design plate). Whole package is so small and light. I still wish Canon had faster zoom lenses, but the portability of the ef-m system is unbeatable.

I teach hospitality at the University of Arkansas online and 1x a month graduate level lectures in person. I consider it a personal challenge to upgrade the content for my students by taking them through the world of hospitality via video segments that align with their lessons. Until the shut-down, I was doing my best to create video walk-through's of hotels, restaurants, festivals, bars, casinos, comedy clubs, etc. primarily in the New Orleans and Las Vegas markets, to show the business side and create real-life examples they could not find elsewhere in the universe of learning. In this downtime I've been able to build a small 'studio' in my office and a decent collection of video equipment. The M50 was one of my first upgrades from my iPhoneX and GoPro that I used prior. Your videos have opened my eyes to more tools to move my content to a new level. Students of today and tomorrow will consume quality production materials much better than the PowerPoint presentations that are currently deployed. thanks for the honest video. I have a question. I have a canon m50. can use the focus tap with the monitor. I mean by this, if you press on the screen with your finger on an object it then goes into focus. and you can go into the menu of the canon to adjust the settings. I once connected an external monitor. the screen of the canon m50 then goes out so that I could no longer change the setting Thank you in advance

I really like the idea of the cage for the M50, like you I ran into the issue mounting it on a gimbal with the Sigma 16mm. My temporary solution was to use a Zhiyun Quick Release Setup kit between the gimbal and the camera. I like your solution with the cage much better.
Me too... have the same issues. I've got a Zhiyun G6 Plus with a SmallRig mount clamp weight holders and Smallrig Counterweight 100g and 200g. Just waiting for 1 more part coming...
I just ordered a refurbed M50 from Canon yesterday. I'm looking forward to using it as my go-to video solution and possibly a webcam using the new Canon utility, but thanks for the other video that mentions SparkoCam!
Thank you! This was really informative and gave me hope. I got the M50 two days ago. It'd my first camera and I am pretty overwhelmed with all the information, but am taking it bit by bit. Love your set up and am looking forward to learning the film making craft. Many thanks from New Zealand!
Love the look of the wood handle, but took mine off. It just gets in the way of tethering port and you cant reach the button to take a picture with your hand gripping the handle. Even worsen the handle gets in the way of gripping the camera normally. The cage is nice, but the wood handle is cumbersome at best.
i always check your videos whenever i need some info or tutorial, and sometimes i just check you out because i am truly impressed on how you do reviews - very elaborate, well explained. on top of that how you edit your video - amazing!
What a beast of a Rig! So modular! Just received my M50 Today and can't wait to get out and get some use out of it. Just goes to show how capable the m50 is! Great content bud 👍
I always enjoy learning how to improve on the cameras I already have, especially in the budget category. I have been on the bubble about getting an M50 over my SL2, which I am completely satisfied with for my needs. Maybe a cage and a few external upgrades are in order.
I'm super glad it was helpful Eric! Thank you for the kind words and for being part of the community 🙏 If you end up picking anything up - let me know how it works out for you.
I have the m50 and have just bought the plug in battery from watching your videos, I’m still in the early stages on leaning with the camera and prem pro editing software’ love your videos even thought you keep Turing in to Ross from friends lol
Looking for honest opinions to two questions: - How is this camera for stills as well as video work? - How have people found the 4k crop to work with/work around? Seriously contemplating one of these!
Hi Kyle. This is a good entry-level camera for both photography and video - and if you learn how to use it well, you'll be able to create outstanding content. If you really want 4k, I would not get the M50. It's not just the crop (which you can get around with a speedbooster or simply moving the camera back). It's the lack of dual pixel autofocus. The contrast detection system is simply not as good (slower and less reliable). Check out this (if you wan canon): ua-cam.com/video/Nir8pfvfdFI/v-deo.html or this if you wan Sony: ua-cam.com/video/oim6v2zDQM0/v-deo.html Hope that helps.
Getting lenses have been my main thing to do since I got the M50, but this cage will be my next order. Thanks on the info within the video and a great one as always.
Wow, great video. I wish I saw this earlier before I spent a ton of money on some parts that ended up being useless. Very insightful especially the handle and the Power Junkie NP battery adapter. The Power Junkie is a must for anyone who needs extended power... so Awesome! Great Video, thanks!
I laughed when I saw your thumbnail since I have almost the same rig for my A6600. SmallRig cage, side handle, top handle, and AndyCine monitor. I recently replaced my Rode shotgun for the Blink 200 wireless lav mics. I have a couple of Aputure AL-F7s for light. I don't have an external battery mounted, but I like yours. With the cage they are super flexible on how to rig them out. Some people may think it's overdone for these little cameras, but they have become so powerful you don't necessarily need a big expensive camera to build out a very usable video system. Looks like I'm not out of my mind.... :-)
13:16 This shot looks insane! It's just a battery with some scratches but it looks majestic. The blur on the background and the way it's moving is wild. I'm still just learning so even shots like this are bonkers to me. Wow! 👻
Wow mega amazing setup. If a pro photographer invests time and money on this camera and document it as well, it means it is a camera worth investing in. So I got mine with the Sigma 16mm and have been following your recommendations. Thanks a lot and keep the good work.
Wow! That's awesome / very resourceful... and sort of funny at the same time. Like taking a moped and turning it into a Harley :-) My M50 is on its way- I think I'll follow in your footsteps!!!
@@TechGearTalk Thank you. Your videos inspired me, I didn't know where to start. So I found your channel, after watching hundreds, liked your setup and explanations, so I bought everything on the list. Having a blast! Thanks again!
@@TechGearTalk I had just bought 2 offbrand batteries for the M50 when I saw this video. Now I have the powerjunkie setup. IT'S EPIC. I'm glad I got the extra m50 batteries for when I'm not all rigged out, but that said, I'm going to be rigged out most the time and this power solution is the best advice in the history of UA-cam. And my last name is Riggs so I'm prone to loving a good Rig. Lol
Thank you for an amazing perspective on creating an affordable and productive rig. I've been trying to break into a semi-pro setup like this for a few years, but it's a spendy passion, and other responsibilities take priority. With this setup, I'm hoping to finally break through into turning my passion into reality. Your videos always provide an informative, entertaining, and productive perspective on many of the things I find interesting. Thank you for sharing your passion and expertise with your many well deserved followers. I wonder if you'd be able to adapt this setup to the M6II? That is the one (out of it and the M50) that I would personally prefer. Thanks again!
Hi Mark, thank you so much for taking the time to leave such an inspiring comment. Yes, you can get a cage for the M6mkii and then I would do something like an ATOMOS Ninja V because you have a clean HDMI output. That will get you around the 30 minute limit.
I use the canon M50 for all my shoots. Love it! I have a similar rig, except for the NPF adapter to power the camera. That’s going to my next upgrade. Awesome video & Thank you!
What's the difference between using the power junkie and using a power bank? Can I just hookup a 10000 mah power bank and get longer battery time than an npf battery. What are the advantages? Maybe you can make a separate video on the power junkie, would love to watch
I've watched a ton of your videos, but usually only the ones that relate to the equipment I own, or am interested in buying... I'll be honest though, you're quite entertaining, if not a little relaxing as an asmr track for house work - subbed ;-)
Just stumbled on to your video while looking for great info on Canon M50 that I intend to buy. This was a very intelligent presentation that gave me several great iideas - thanks ! Two thumbs up and a subscription ! Cheers

Your M50 videos are awesome and so helpful. I'm quite stuck right now for how to turn on dual screen simultaneously camera and external, I can't find the settings. Can you help? Thanks and keep making those great vids!
What a great setup, thanks for sharing! I'm already looking at a Smallrig cage just to boost the M50's size in hand. Good to see the different options available from using that as a base. Great video as always! 👏👏
Thanks so much Joe - yeah, it's definitely nice to have improved handling (also, I forgot to mention that the bottom of the cage is arca swiss compatible, so you don't need a quick release plate)
I have seen the M50 and Sony A Series get recommended so much online that i finally dont know whats best anymore. wheeeew. I love your rig for the M50 tho, its really simple.
a6100 - Photos only, or photos and video but no color grading a6400 - best of both worlds a6600 - best if budget is not important (ibis, better battery life).
Is there a different battery option with shorter cables? I love the idea of using np-f batteries to power the m50, where did you attach the thick brick part of the power coupler?
I am getting the Canon M50 but am undecided as to which to go for: a) Canon M50 body alone and get the SIGMA 16mm f/1.4 EF-M seprately b) Canon M50 Kit (EF-M15-45 IS STM) c) Canon M50 Kit (EF-M15-45 IS STM & EF-M55-200 IS STM) The M50 primary purpose will be for social and travel logging. Appreciate your advice, please Thank you.
Hi Ron. I always recommend getting the kit lens first because of ua-cam.com/video/z-x-d-K9Jfw/v-deo.html then I would look at the sigm: ua-cam.com/video/uORT1dfeS0M/v-deo.html

Hope it's helpful!
Great .. amazing lighting and explanation .. gooood job man .. 👍👍👍
Glad you liked it! Appreciate the kind words about the lighting! Thanks for being part of the channel!
I really appreciate your kind words and support 🙏
What a beast of a Rig! So modular!
Just received my M50 Today and can't wait to get out and get some use out of it. Just goes to show how capable the m50 is!
Great content bud 👍
CONGRATS!!! So excited for you! Glad you liked the video!
Your videos helped me understand how to better uilize my M50..........Thank you so much!!!!!!
I'm so glad they are helpful - you are very welcome!
Once again you Rocked... Sagi, I always like your reviews about Canon M50.
Thank you so much Nabeel!
@@TechGearTalk You are always Welcome Dear
🙏
Love your battery solution👌🏾
Glad it was helpful! Welcome to the channel!
Can you show us a video on your studio setup? I love the backdrop, camera shelving, lights, etc in your studio there!
Hi Sean, thanks for the kind words. Here is my studio tour! ua-cam.com/video/Knqufkb35kY/v-deo.html let me know if that helps.
@@TechGearTalk Love it!
🙏
Congrats on all the new gear. I'm still Ross, LOL!!!
Looking for honest opinions to two questions:
- How is this camera for stills as well as video work?
- How have people found the 4k crop to work with/work around?
Seriously contemplating one of these!
Hi Kyle. This is a good entry-level camera for both photography and video - and if you learn how to use it well, you'll be able to create outstanding content.
If you really want 4k, I would not get the M50. It's not just the crop (which you can get around with a speedbooster or simply moving the camera back). It's the lack of dual pixel autofocus. The contrast detection system is simply not as good (slower and less reliable). Check out this (if you wan canon): ua-cam.com/video/Nir8pfvfdFI/v-deo.html or this if you wan Sony: ua-cam.com/video/oim6v2zDQM0/v-deo.html
Hope that helps.
@@TechGearTalk I'll have a look now, thank you very much!
@@TechGearTalk In a little reply; I think you may have just sold me a M6 MKII. Time to start putting some pennies aside! Thanks again
Getting lenses have been my main thing to do since I got the M50, but this cage will be my next order. Thanks on the info within the video and a great one as always.
Smart move, focus on lenses first. Thanks for the support.
So glad the video was helpful. The Power Junkie is so good - love it!
Appreciate you sharing your setup (love the a6600 btw!). Totally agree about maximizing what you can get out of these smaller cameras.
Oh My Gosh, I literally came on here to check if you posted a rig video of an M50 and there it was! thank you!!
Ha! That's crazy!
13:16 This shot looks insane! It's just a battery with some scratches but it looks majestic. The blur on the background and the way it's moving is wild. I'm still just learning so even shots like this are bonkers to me. Wow! 👻
Appreciate the kind words 🙏
Wow mega amazing setup. If a pro photographer invests time and money on this camera and document it as well, it means it is a camera worth investing in. So I got mine with the Sigma 16mm and have been following your recommendations. Thanks a lot and keep the good work.
Glad you love the gear (that 16mm is 🔥🔥🔥) Thank you for the support.
A sample of this set up would have been nice
Insane set up 😍
Glad you liked it!
great as usual cause of you i bought my M50 yesterday thanks a lot
CONGRATS!!!! Let me know how you like it when you get it!
Wow! That's awesome / very resourceful... and sort of funny at the same time. Like taking a moped and turning it into a Harley :-) My M50 is on its way- I think I'll follow in your footsteps!!!
Ha, that moped analogy made me laugh. Congrats on the M50!!!
@@TechGearTalk lol :-) thank you!
Just bought and built this rig today! Literally.
Congrats Joe!!!
@@TechGearTalk Thank you. Your videos inspired me, I didn't know where to start. So I found your channel, after watching hundreds, liked your setup and explanations, so I bought everything on the list. Having a blast! Thanks again!
So glad you love it. That Power Junkie is just the best
Lol
Oddly, you'd think I would have realized the last name connection before now Riggs/Rig, but no. Now I'm deeply amused by it. Be well!
Where are the drink holders Sagi? Where? Joking aside, that is a pretty boss rig. Thanks for sharing with us, "the beast!!!!"
Ok, that made me laugh 😂🤣 - I'll have to add it to my next one, LOL.
Very cool rig! Thanks a lot for putzing this together and explaining it so in detail.
Thanks Alexander - super glad it was helpful!
That's awesome brother..
Ayee I'm about to do a binge session. Lol every video is top notch informative but in a fast descriptive way.
I appreciate you.
@@TechGearTalk Awesome, thanks!
You're very welcome. Glad I could help.
Thanks, Sagi. Such a nice rig. Your vids are packed with good info.
Super glad they are helpful brother!
Very good video mate... love dat magnetic thingy for d led light i want one....
Glad you liked it!
literally identical to my rig.
Crazy!
Awesome! Hope you're enjoying it!
Planning to buy m50 because of your review 👍🤘
I'm super glad it was helpful! Thank you for the kind words and for joining the community 🙏
I use the canon M50 for all my shoots. Love it! I have a similar rig, except for the NPF adapter to power the camera. That’s going to my next upgrade. Awesome video & Thank you!
Nice! Super glad it was helpful - let me know how it works when you do.
For sure!!
👍
What's the difference between using the power junkie and using a power bank?
Can I just hookup a 10000 mah power bank and get longer battery time than an npf battery. What are the advantages? Maybe you can make a separate video on the power junkie, would love to watch
Man, what a setup! Been looking for a good top handle to get those quintessential, low-angle skateboarding shots. Thanks for the recommendations!
Glad it was helpful! There is also a NATO version of it, which is easier to install and remove (if you plan on doing that often).
Great video and very informative. I like your set up.
Appreciate the kind words Marc 🙏🏻
THIS IS VERY HELPFUL BEST VIDEO EVER FOR THE M50 THANKS FOR THIS
I've watched a ton of your videos, but usually only the ones that relate to the equipment I own, or am interested in buying... I'll be honest though, you're quite entertaining, if not a little relaxing as an asmr track for house work - subbed ;-)
Super helpful Video just bought the m50 and thios was handy
Just stumbled on to your video while looking for great info on Canon M50 that I intend to buy. This was a very intelligent presentation that gave me several great iideas - thanks ! Two thumbs up and a subscription ! Cheers

Third video I've watched in the last few days from you, love your content, love your format, and I'm working hard to emulate your cinematic results with my new M50!
So glad that I've been able to help in improving your content - keep shooting!
Very informative video as always!

Your M50 videos are awesome and so helpful. I'm quite stuck right now for how to turn on dual screen simultaneously camera and external, I can't find the settings. Can you help? Thanks and keep making those great vids!
Awesome video per usual, Sagi. Thanks for all the great info.
Thank you so much Kim - glad it was helpful and to have you along for this journey. Stay safe.
That looks brilliant! I love these kinds of videos. Nice set up!
So glad it was helpful Roscoe! Thanks for being part of the channel!
It depends on what you're looking for. If you want 4k, 120fps, definitely the A series. Easy to use and better colors right out of the camera - M50
@@TechGearTalk oh ok. I will keep that in mind. thanks for the tip brother
@@TechGearTalk which of the A series Sony would you recommend if asked?
a6100 - Photos only, or photos and video but no color grading
a6400 - best of both worlds
a6600 - best if budget is not important (ibis, better battery life).
Tech Gear Talk Awesome. Just what I thought. Thanks brother
Is there a different battery option with shorter cables? I love the idea of using np-f batteries to power the m50, where did you attach the thick brick part of the power coupler?
Enjoyed the video and a great set up for me to start working on building. Cheers.
Glad it was useful! Welcome to the channel.
I am getting the Canon M50 but am undecided as to which to go for:
a) Canon M50 body alone and get the SIGMA 16mm f/1.4 EF-M seprately
b) Canon M50 Kit (EF-M15-45 IS STM)
c) Canon M50 Kit (EF-M15-45 IS STM & EF-M55-200 IS STM)
The M50 primary purpose will be for social and travel logging.
Appreciate your advice, please
Thank you.
Hi Ron. I always recommend getting the kit lens first because of ua-cam.com/video/z-x-d-K9Jfw/v-deo.html then I would look at the sigm: ua-cam.com/video/uORT1dfeS0M/v-deo.html
LOVE FROM PHILIPPINES 🇵🇭

Been thinking about getting a cage in order to leave the gimbal at home at times. Great timed video!
So glad you liked it Thomas! I completely understand.
The SmallRig cages are SO useful. You won't regret it!
agreed
Great video, love the new battery option. Thank You
Glad you liked it Tim - it lasts FOREVER!
@@TechGearTalk that is so cool, I very love this whole smallrig setup. What is price in the smallrig and handle?
Thanks. I've got links in the description for each part.

I love your rig setup 😙
Appreciate you watching my friend!
That setup is dope!

Tech Gear Talk You’re one of the best teachers. You have a gift in simplifying things and you’re so humble and kind when sharing what you know. I’m so tech challenged and somehow you make it less frightening. I’ve recent bought an M50. Been creating and editing using my old but trusty iphone6S plus. Yeah! Not kidding. You can check our my channel and see. Hahaha. I’m trying to create inspirational content based out of a Christian lifestyle. To God Be The Glory. You’re a blessing. Thank you for what you do.
I'm so glad the videos having been helpful and simple to follow. Congrats on the M50 and keep creating!
You're videos are totally amazing!!Plz can you make a same video for Canon SL2....is there a cage for SL2??
Thank you and yes, I have one coming!
I like how detailed you are keep the great work and it’s amazing how you are replying to every comment don’t ever stop lol it’s awesome 🙌🏽
Thanks for the feedback my friend. I will do my best.
Great videos...I was considering the m50 but went to the ozmo pocket for my slot play and food videos..the small size doesn't draw much attention in the casinos...I have just purchased the ozmo action but have only used it once....with things opening up I'm going to get some more use out of it....Thanks for the great content..
Appreciate the kind words Richard. Those two cameras will compliment each other well - can't wait for you to get to really put them into use!
I bought the m50 and i have been really impressed by it. I would like to build a rig like this too when i have the money for it.
Congrats on the camera! Glad you liked the rig!
My God thats a big nice set up
