Under $800, this camera rocksss for everything with an “OK 4K!!” With the right lens and spending around $1500-$2000, it’s sick for what you’re getting! I don’t understand some so called Pros what they’re talking about, this is a very advanced camera, can’t go wrong under $800, I mean just compare the 6D MARK2 and tell me if it can give you a better quality then 20%-30% MAX on Images or video. And no 4K at all but you’re paying a hefty price for it, of course it don’t make sense to add a 4K @60fps for the price that it is! People should be all over this camera, and the fact that you can use all of the APSC lenses with an Adapter, plssss!!! Canon got this right, Bravo👏
Remember crop factor...there is none in full hd 1080p ff mirrorless except 4k 1.7x but m50 since crop sensor...1080p its 1.6x its double 2x of 2.5x crop in 4k. Speedbooster on r reduce crop in 4k and reduce hd crop on m50. Ff is better for native 1080p without booster than apsc.
I was looking for you for long time. I came across your vidoes 3 years ago. Glad to see you still reviewing. Great work and I have instantly subscribed.
Thanks so much for showing the 1080 vs 4k tests! Most channels only show 4k tests, and as someone who wants to mostly shoot 1080 due to file size, I really appreciate it!
You're welcome! I'm always going to try and include 1080 footage in my 4k compilations, although obviously the quality will always be impacted by whatever scales it up to 4k, in this case, Premiere. But i always try to include the original files for download in my reviews at cameralabs.com if you're interested.
I have the M50. I’m not a fan of the crop when shooting at 4K (I can’t afford a wide angle lens). So I tend to shoot at 1080p for car videos and use 4k when I don’t really need wide shots (e.g. for my tech videos). At this point, I’m better off using my iPhone 11 Pro Max to shoot in 4K @ 60fps 😁 Hoping to upgrade to a wider lens or potentially another camera next year. 🤞🏽
Subbed because unlike most viewers who just try to be cute you actually devote more than half of your reviews with shots made by the camera in different settings. Cheers!
Thanks! Why buy it? The white one is cute but a G85 would be a better buy at the same price just don't use the auto focus if your life depends on it. I actually think that G 85 autofocus is better than Canon's contrast autofocus?
I agree, some contrast autofocus can be very good. The Panasonic contrast AF is better than the Canon one, but not as good as dual Pixel CMOS AF or other phase-detect systems, at least when it comes to confident focus pulls. Contrast-based systems do however have advantages, like accuracy and lower light capabilities.
I have a G 85 and GH 5 and I love both of them, and I wish Panasonic had and they probably will offer phase detect in a newer model. I have the new Sony A7lll that has just arrived and of course the autofocus is fantastic but I'm already missing my GH 5. There is no perfect camera. I will not sell all of my good Panasonic glass I am waiting on the GH6. lol I do like your presentations
I wanted a 4k camera with 60fps but too long to save for that the M50 4k is still better than 1080 for my needs I will be filming mostly landscape. I've ordered the EOS M50 , Canon EF-M 18-150mm lense and Hoya 55mm Ultra-Pro Circular Polariser Filter. This is my first DSLR camera. Thanks for the review I will test it around Winter Hill and Blackpool when I get a Gorilla 5k.
Would love to see a update to the Sony a5100. Sony needs to add front facing screens to their lineup. Would love to use my a7r3 for vlogging over my 5100. Also wish canon would come up with a full frame mirrorless.
Hah someone trying to compare the m50 with the sony a7iii. Lets be realistic. the Sony is more than 3 times the price. Compare it with a same value camera and there is no contest. The M50 is better. Plus the adapter to use my ef l lens makes it a great camera.
Great info thanks so much for sharing! I preordered when I first heard about the camera then canceled when I hear about the 4K crop and lack of DP AF. I saved a bit and got the A7iii instead.
I did see your videos that helped my a lot. I know they are different cameras all together but I have the Canon SL2/200d if I want a dedicated Vlog camera. What a great camera that is. Also I can use my Canon EF lenses on the Sony I have the 50 1.8 and the 85 1/8. With the MC-11 they work a treat on the A7iii even with Eye AF. Cheers.
With the low price of the A7III, I believe it may pull more people up, that in the past never considered an a7. I also moved from a Canon 80d to the Sony. I never pictured myself paying that much, but the features and quality are night an day.
If you're plugging this camera into something like OBS with a Elgato Cam Link, highly recommend moving to the 1080p 59.9P mode. Much better quality and frame.
The year is 2020, its the Olympics in Japan and then a shocker Panasonic makes a 8k mirroless ILC camera. 4k is the new 1080p standard and the rest are playing catch-up.
There will be 8k cameras at the Tokyo Olympics, definitely, but for 8k you'll need much higher resolutions than are currently supported on MFT and APSC sensors. I think it will only be practical on bigger sensors. Basically, I'm not expecting an 8K MFT body, but I hope I'm proven wrong!
Alucard, actually, Blackmagic Design have just released a $1200 ilc camera that shoots 4K 12bit RAW. Thats, right, 4k 12bit raw. The rest will now play catchup. You would probably be aware that all serious video is shot on 12, 14 or 16 raw, just like is normal for stills, logs not required. The day will come soon, that all cameras will offer at least 12bit 4k raw, and the premium models will offer preogessive scan shutter (by by rolling shutter).
Nor Dic unfortunately its a trade off. Micro sensor high bit rates. Asoc or 35mm and lower bit rates. The catching up argument could be used the otherway around as well.
Thanks for making this video. I like the Canon colors but wish they had kept the comp dial that's on the m6. All the other improvements over the m6 have me really anxious to try it out. I love the m6.
Hello excuse me I would like to ask you on the barrel I hesitate between 2 cameras cannon eos rebel sl3 Canon eos m50 My goal is to make my professional clips that sits i per nont and the photo the rest please I wait for your answer before buying it thanks 🙏
HI Gordon, How do you manage to have such crisp and sharp videos? My videos straight out of the camera look like shit tbh. Using a 11-22mm 2.8 24fps, 1/50 /100 iso with a lightbox so fairly well lit. but it still looks super blurry. not nearly as sharp as your images.
So this is a good 4K image 1080P video camera. I'll be honest I'll save 4K for if I'm actually using it for something professional, and at that point I might as well buy a different camera. For now though, It does what it needs to do.
I know this was 3 years ago xD, but if anyone could comment/answer this one question. I am going to use this for the 1080p part because (obviously) the 4k sucks. How is the rolling shutter in 1080p? The 4k was obviously horrible, 1080p it was harder to tell (mostly due to it actually being in focus on your subject).
The RX100 series are great compacts and will fit in your pocket, but the larger APSC sensor of the M50 (and G1X III) has better dynamic range. The M50 also has a mic input and the chance to swap lenses. If you can accommodate the size of the M50, I'd go for it in preference. The advantage of the RX100 is size. PS - if you're buying anything online, please consider going through the links on my reviews at cameralabs.com, thanks!
Thanks Gordon for the video, it helped me decide to order it and I did. What got me the most was the tiny form factor. I’m tired of carrying heavy gear (80D, 6D, Nikon D750). Direct compatibility with my existing EF & EF-S lens via Canon’s adapter saves me money. DPAF is superb (although not available in 4K mode). Finally, the cost. Got it on sale for very cheap. Can’t wait to get it and use it!!!
Hi Gordon! greetings from Portugal. I'm willing to move to the mirrorless system. I watched your previous review of the Canon M5 (very deep and good for instance) and now after viewing this review, I ask you what camera I should buy? The M5 or the M50? I'm not a pro, I have an old Canon 400D, and a few lenses: EF 50mm 1,8 STM, EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, EF 85mm f/1.8 USM, EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM, EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM and the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. I want to move to the mirrorless system, but as you see I want to keep the investment I've made on Canon lenses. Pictures are an important issue, but I want to start in the video world. For now I know that an Canon R is far away for my knowledge and a quite expensive investment for my propose. So your opinion is important to me due your experience. Thanks in advance Best regards
Bon Dia Nuno! I personally prefer the M50, as while it's not the top model, it does have all most of us need in an attractive package, plus you could invest any difference in lenses.
@@cameralabs Yes I'm asking for a camera which can film 4k without the problems the M50 has. The price should be as close as possible towards the M50. So basically the M50 or better without the 4k problems.
@@xXSeak if you want 4k at a similar price, then you'll have to go Panasonic and have less confident AF.if you want good 4k with good AF, then you'll need to go for a Sony A6400 or one of their other models, but it'll probably cost more.
great information thank you , i am going to buy my first camera and i compare between canon M50 and canon 800d/t7i i need more image quality so which one will be the best,
@@ayuutoboss2602 that's the cheapest of all - the EF 50mm f1.8 STM - and it works well on the M50 with the adapter, although you will need to multiply all lenses by 1.6x due to the sensor, so it will become an 80mm short telephoto - great for portraits, but not general use.
I have viewed your very good reviews on Canon M50 and Olympus EMD Mark III. Currently I have a Sony A58 with the 18-135 lens and do mostly still photos and very less videos. Which of the above 2 cameras would you suggest for a hobbyist ? Need a smaller and lighter ILC. Should I consider Sony A6300 for better dynamic range and of course other features.
If you shoot action or need good autofocus for movies, I'd recommend the Canon M50 or Sony A6300. If you want to vlog, I'd suggest the M50 over the others. The Canon and Sony also have bigger sensors, but I am still fond of the style of the Olympus and it has lots of nice small lenses to choose from too.
Thanks Gordon. I don't vlog or take videos much. Sony 6300 or Oly fits the bill for being small and light. Also, smaller tele lens on Oly would be good for wildlife too. On the other hand, Canon's colors are tempting for the stills. Its a typical "Paradox of choices".
You're right, if you're happy with 1080p, then there's no need to worry about average 4k performance. But some people do want 4k and it's definitely the future, so it depends if you want to invest in a camera that's not equipped for it.
Hello sir. Did you upscaled the 1080p to 4K footage using Premiere CC? How can I do that in OpenShot Video editor..? Thanks. Since if I am able to do that I might cancel upgrading to M6 Mark ii.
Been following you for a while and finally bought a EOS M50 so I will be working thru your past posts trying to learn how to fly it thanks again stay safe see ya

Great Review! Not sure if I want this if the 4k is so shaky. I plan on using it for my youtube channel, with a bit of vlogging. Do you think I should get this one or try something else out?
@@cameralabs Tbh Im not sure, I record a lot of hair videos as well as a little cooking, sewing. Do you think I need 4k for that? Right now I use my iphone 11 pro max, which shoots in 4k. Will the quality be better or worse than my 4K iphone? Sorry, still kind of new to camera specs so I have no clue
@@Zhaanaay no problem to ask at all! The camera has a much bigger sensor than your phone, so it should deliver better-looking images even if it's filming in 1080. If you want 4k with no crop and good autofocus, then you'll need to spend more on the Canon M6 II, Sony A6100 / A6400, or the Fujifilm XT30. If you're happy with 1080, the M50 is a bit of a bargain, especially if you couple it with a nice lens. Check out my recent video about the Sigma EOS M lenses... PS - if you end up ordering online, please consider going through my links here or at cameralabs.com thanks!
@@Zhaanaay I just checked out a couple of your recent videos and I have to say I thought your video quality looked great - plus, love that crochet wig! Switching to a more dedicated traditional camera like those we've discussed will get you shallower depth-of-field effects (more blurring in the background) if that's what you want, but in good light, you won't notice much difference in quality. What are you using for a microphone? Again it sounds pretty good on the videos I checked, but if you're using the phone's mics, there's opportunities for an upgrade by using a better mic or a separate sound recorder and syncing later in edit. If you went for one of the bigger cameras we discussed, you should also consider a separate mic for them, either a shotgun mounted on top, or a lapel / lavalier mic clipped onto you, although NOT if there's any chance of the hair brushing against it.
Enjoyed this video but how do you get such clarity on shots? Complete newbie and in camera the footage looks okay but when trying to edit everything is very flat. There seems to be no clarity or sharpness and the footage can be jumpy. I guess it must be something I’m doing as all I ever see is great videos on YT with the same camera
Gordon Laing wow really? I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but yours is streets ahead, do you let your software set the timeline rate to match automatically before upload?
The new M50 MarkII address all the previous M50 issues without image crop at 4K using a faster image processor and 32mpx sensor meaning that the new M50 MarkII is a true 4K design from scratch
I'm afraid not. The M50 II has the same sensor and limitations as the M50. I think you've seen some rumours that are incorrect. Always take care to ensure the validity of your sources.
Thank you for this review! I was just in BestBuy yesterday and held this camera for the first time. I may be moving to China soon and would love to know what camera you'd recommend for great interior shooting as well as video. Thank you so much!
For interiors it's as much about the lens. so I'd go for a camera where you can afford a good ultra wide lens. Canon has a good one for the M50 called the EF-M 11-22mm. PS - if you're shopping online, please do go through my links!
I have the M50 myself and 4K looks a lot better in terms of details. But the autofocus in 4K mode is quite bad and it is useless to film in 4K hand held, it looks really bad. Filming in 4K on the M50 is only worthwhile with a tripod, along with no swift movements.
you need a wide lens or just move the camera back. wide angle lenses are only necessary if youre in a tight space or you hold the camera for vlogging. if you have alot of space you can be fine with the kit lens.
Great review. Just wondering: What is the signal out on HDMI? Can I Connect external recorder or are the limitations in 4K also there? I'm using an Atomos 4K recorder.
Good question - I don't know what the HDMI spec is on this camera, it may not output a clean signal. I now have an Atomos Ninja V, so will be able to test this going forward.
Depends on the lens - if you use a bright wide prime lens, you can, but you'll probably be adapting an EF lens as there aren't many EF-M ones available with a wide focal length AND bright aperture.
@@saledellaterra actually they have very similar sensors, so it depends what size you prefer and if you like optical vs electronic viewfinders. I'd get the M50 myself.
@@saledellaterra for handheld vlogging,I would use a wide lens like the EF-M 11-18mm. But if you are sat in front of the camera at home or in a fixed location, then the 32mm f1.4 is lovely.
This was the best review I have ever seen. I never write comments on youtube. This is first time. Your review was so informative in a modest way and no silly music and also the of the surroundings/location where its all shot are very cool! Also you are not pretentious or act weird in front of the camera or talk weird because you think it is funny. And most of all what you say and show is very important and helpful. I am looking for a compact camera with APS-C sensor that can shoot video and has image stabilisation and mic- connection and good autofocus and price and this seems to have all that except good 4k unfortunately. So if I can manage with HD and forget about 4k than I should get this one I think. But then again I miss out on the 4k... anyway very good review, thanks!
Sure! I am going to subscribe! Also what do you think of m50 as a video camera? Is at a buy worth making despite only using it without 4k? I am not a pixel nazi but am worried about future proofing. Thanks again for awesome video.
M50...get speedbooster to reduce 4k 1.6x= 2.5x actual crop and 1080p 1.6x crop. Even better upgrade to ff...no 1080p crop worries ...4k not needed and still crop.
Hey Gordon thanks for this vid man. Hoping to upgrade my g7x very soon. Worried about the difference in stabilisation tho. G7x is amazing. I’ll keep it and decide. Thanks again mate 👍🏻😊
Finally a good video on the M50. If you don’t mind me asking, where is that waterfall? I live in London by the way so I only came across one waterfall here. Thank you!
Gordon Laing Thanks! Also I wanted to ask, in regards to what you would recommend getting, I already have a Canon 70d, very good for photos and videos. But I want 4K so I’m sort of stuck between A6300, Panasonic G80 and Canon M50. It’s clear that M50 isn’t very good for 4K video, but my concern is that G80 is good but it’s a 4/3 sensor and the A6300 doesn’t have IBIS or IS. So if you could be recommend or give me your opinion for what I should do and whether if Panasonic G7 and G80 will do be justice compared to the Canon and Sony? Thanks and I’m sorry for the long comment.
Well, I provide sample movies you can download from my reviews at cameralabs.com so why not check some out and see if the MFT models are good enough? I think they're good! Or if you can stretch to the A6500, you get great 4k AND IBIS!
Gordon Laing sure, thank you I’ll check it out. To be honest A6500 would be out of my range, plus i think I’d rather get Black Magic pocket cinema camera over that for around that £1,200 mark. But thanks a lot!
Oh Gordon Laing honestly thank you so much, because of you I came across the LUMIX GX80 which has image stabilisation and only cost £450 so I think I’m going to try that out over G7 and G80 and even the A6300
Hi Gordon: good to have a review on the M50. Really just what I was looking for. Maybe too wishful thinking but I would like to make the best of it during the yoga trips and fitness journeys I follow. Lets do it and see what it gives soon. One question though: I know it may sound like comparing appels and peers but how about a review about the GoProhero5 and the M50? ;) All the best.
Thanks! Yes, you're right, it is apples and pears! The GoPro is an action cam, whereas this is an interchangeable lens mirrorless camera. Sure they both take photos and video, but are aimed for completely different styles and tasks.
Wow, is that the take away you got from the video? With everyone waiting patiently for Canon to release a mirrorless with 4k capability I'd say the camera was designed specifically for that market . . . . and in usual Canon fashion of late, they released a totally crippled camera. Really, the 1.5 year old Panasonic G85 is a much better camera than this one and at a very similar price point you get a weather sealed kit lens as well.
Some want 4K and great 4K focus etc. but as the Canon executives have said, they are not going to do that anytime soon in the low end of the market and as the market share leader they made a business decision and to prove their point they just completed a very profitable year. You may not like the way they parse out their technology but they still dominate the market. Sony products have the advantage of starting with a blank slate as do the micro-four thirds people. They have no vested interest in DSLR's - which by the way still dominate sales. The reality for 4K is that in the real world it is still not really that wide-spread in broadcast or content, and if you are watching on a smart phone or tablet it is likely to be unnecessary practically speaking. Those who want different things are free to buy them but using Canon glass on a Canon camera is always a better bet than some other brand. Really only Sony offers sensor sizes and focus capabilities for video to compete with Canon but Sony glass is very pricey and I think their ergonomics suck.Canon has said they are working on full-frame mirrorless and it will be interesting to see their implementation. As for the M50 it was designed with specific features and limitations for both sales and profit reasons and for what it is and for what is made to do it is a great product albeit pricey, but then they are in no hurry to cannibalize entry level dslr sales by too low a price. Are they too slow in changing and will they Kodak themselves to death, maybe, maybe not. One thing is for sure, they know how to make and market and service excellent quality products. So yes, for what it is it is a great product, don't fault it for what it isn't, just look elsewhere and pony up the money for that or if you are into Canon wait and see. You may or may not like their strategy but in the end when you have Nikon being shaky financially, and Sony bails out Olympus, and Panasonic consolidates and absorbs the photography unit into the more general business all while Sony has been raiding its insurance wing for money, you have to kind of admire Canon for making their own glass and sensors and many products in Japan and being as profitable as they are in a generally shrinking camera market for all concerned.
as always, good info. i would stick with the canon 80d and ignore this "ain't quite so" version of 4k. thank you for the effort and the sharing. i am an appreciative subscriber. thumbs up.
Very similar feature-set for video, although the M50 has it's basic 4k AND the chance to compose and playback video through the viewfinder. In its favour though, the 800D / T7i ultra wide EF-S lens is cheaper than the EF-M equivalent, so it depends if you'll be buying that too. In terms of the body though, I'd go M50.

Great honest review thanks so much. Would you recommend this over the m6? not sure what one to get for my channel.
The M50 has been my favourite Canon mirrorless so far, but it's definitely a mid-range product.
At 8:32 with 4K didnt crop the video? using other wide angle lens or the kit 15-45mm lens?
Would love to see a update to the Sony a5100. Sony needs to add front facing screens to their lineup. Would love to use my a7r3 for vlogging over my 5100. Also wish canon would come up with a full frame mirrorless.
I agree, if Sony made a forward-facing screen for the A6000 or A7 series, it would clean up. I tell them every time.
I'd like that too. Love my NEX-5T and hesitating on an A6300 because of the tilt screen only.
Hah someone trying to compare the m50 with the sony a7iii. Lets be realistic. the Sony is more than 3 times the price. Compare it with a same value camera and there is no contest. The M50 is better. Plus the adapter to use my ef l lens makes it a great camera.
Maybe Panasonic G85?
Contender for the m50 is the lumix g7. They're priced the same on a henry's camera branch here in my country.
Excellent review.
The 1080p was so much better than 4k. Why even use 4k?
Great info thanks so much for sharing! I preordered when I first heard about the camera then canceled when I hear about the 4K crop and lack of DP AF. I saved a bit and got the A7iii instead.
The A7 III is a big step up! Hope you like it, it's a great camera. hope you've seen my videos on it here and my review at cameralabs.com
Cheers.
Well, the A7III is 3x more expensive....different class if you ask me...ofcourse it's better with a Full Frame sensor.
Right, I wasn't trying to compare the two just noting I got the A7iii.
Anybody know what export and render setting are best for the M50? I'm using Davinci Resolve for editing. Thanks for the help!
I wanted to get the Sony A6000 but this one is a lot better

So basically in 4K the Canon becomes Panasonic in therms of focusing? :D
HI Gordon,
How do you manage to have such crisp and sharp videos?
My videos straight out of the camera look like shit tbh.
Using a 11-22mm 2.8
24fps, 1/50 /100 iso with a lightbox so fairly well lit. but it still looks super blurry. not nearly as sharp as your images.
How do anamorphic lenses look on this camera?
Good comparison and practical info. Keep doing honest reviews 👍
Thanks, will do!
Hmm Canon, i'm not sure if we should call it crop 4k for video, or crap 4k
oh shit! @canon!
Most respected helpful video, you deserve to be sponsored 👏🏽🙌🏽
It seems like a fun camera. I mean it’s not a massive full frame costing thousands of dollars but seems like something to just pack around.
As time goes on, I grow fonder of the M50...
It's ok, not the best but not the worst - try not to whip-pan it!
@@cameralabs So you'd say it's like WAY better than the 4k part of it though?
@@ashawiiisthebest5289 yes, it's way better than the 4k skewing.
This or... the Sony RX100 IV for travel cam? The size is not the problem, the quality and video/pics is. :)
Are all canon m50s 1080p. I dont see 1080p in one of the descriptions in the bundle i want to buy. I don't want buy it if its only 720p and 4k
Suggest a camera or camera+lens which is capable of film making and street photography please.
I've just purchased one of these - your comparisons were very helpful, thank you!
You're welcome!
Hello, may i download this original video to compare it to my other camera?1080 & 4k. I want to test its quality and apply luts and premiere pro.
sir i want to shoot a cinema movie. is possible shoot movie by m50. if possible which lense i use. please reply
Hi Gordon! greetings from Portugal.
Thanks in advance
Best regards
Bon Dia Nuno! I personally prefer the M50, as while it's not the top model, it does have all most of us need in an attractive package, plus you could invest any difference in lenses.
@@cameralabs Thanks Gordon for your opinion.
What's the best lens for this camera for making videos?

I don't think so, but hope you enjoyed watching it again!

What would be "the" camera to buy without the 4k problems the M50 has? (with a price closest to the M50)
Does it need to film 4k? if not, then the M50.

@@cameralabs legend what Abt 50mm ef

What lens are you using when you shot the Chess pieces and the next when you were walking towards the camera
I say the lens in the narration during those parts! It's the EF 50mm f1.8 STM.
I did a 4K video and the canon app says error when I try to pull it up on the app. ? Why is that
Maybe the app can't transfer 4k videos
so if you're only youtubing i don't see the big deal sticking to 1080 most of the time. What's the big deal?
You're right, if you're happy with 1080p, then there's no need to worry about average 4k performance. But some people do want 4k and it's definitely the future, so it depends if you want to invest in a camera that's not equipped for it.
Hello sir. Did you upscaled the 1080p to 4K footage using Premiere CC? How can I do that in OpenShot Video editor..? Thanks. Since if I am able to do that I might cancel upgrading to M6 Mark ii.
Yes, all editing software will scale 1080 when placed in a 4k project. It's not as good as real 4k, but may be good enough
To improve the image quality of M50 4K video would it be better upgrading lens or change to M6 Mark ii but with kit lens sir?@@cameralabs
What settings were you using for the picture profile etc? Great quality in both the 4k and 1080 IMO
just the standard default settings. I change nothing for my samples.

Great Review! Not sure if I want this if the 4k is so shaky. I plan on using it for my youtube channel, with a bit of vlogging. Do you think I should get this one or try something else out?
How much do you want or need 4k? The M50 is really just for 1080
@@cameralabs Tbh Im not sure, I record a lot of hair videos as well as a little cooking, sewing. Do you think I need 4k for that? Right now I use my iphone 11 pro max, which shoots in 4k. @@cameralabs Thank you so much!!
This is all footage out of camera, no mods!
Gordon Laing wow really? I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but yours is streets ahead, do you let your software set the timeline rate to match automatically before upload?
@@kf6808 no, you must definitely set your software to edit in the same frame rate that you captured in.
Always take care to ensure the validity of your sources.

great video man! im interested into buying it to do my workout videos... have to decide between this one and fujifilm xt-100.
For me it seems to be that 1080p looks better than 4k wow! Am I judging wrong?
I have the M50 myself and 4K looks a lot better in terms of details. But the autofocus in 4K mode is quite bad and it is useless to film in 4K hand held, it looks really bad. Filming in 4K on the M50 is only worthwhile with a tripod, along with no swift movements.
amateur here, so in order to shoot in 4k wide, you need another lense or it can't do that at all?
Yes, a very wide lens
@@cameralabs OK sure thanks, any suggestions?
you need a wide lens or just move the camera back. wide angle lenses are only necessary if youre in a tight space or you hold the camera for vlogging. if you have alot of space you can be fine with the kit lens.
So would you say 1080p is sharp?
Great review. Just wondering: What is the signal out on HDMI? Can I Connect external recorder or are the limitations in 4K also there? I'm using an Atomos 4K recorder.
Good question - I don't know what the HDMI spec is on this camera, it may not output a clean signal. I now have an Atomos Ninja V, so will be able to test this going forward.
Can you have a bokeh effect on vlogging with M50?
Depends on the lens - if you use a bright wide prime lens, you can, but you'll probably be adapting an EF lens as there aren't many EF-M ones available with a wide focal length AND bright aperture.
@@cameralabs Do you think it's better take an EOS 80D than this M50? I know they have different technologies inside

Your review was so informative in a modest way and no silly music and also the of the surroundings/location where its all shot are very cool! Also you are not pretentious or act weird in front of the camera or talk weird because you think it is funny. And most of all what you say and show is very important and helpful. Finally a good video on the M50. If you don’t mind me asking, where is that waterfall? I live in London by the way so I only came across one waterfall here. Thank you!
Thanks! The waterfall was filmed during a trip to France - it's at the source of the river Lison.

Thank you for your comment Gordon. Really now nothing at all about cameras: therefore thank you for confirming my thoughts.
So basically it is an excellent camera for what it is designed to deliver, i.e. stills and HD video for home use or vlogging.
Exactly, if you mostly - or only - use it for photos and 1080p video, you'd be very happy.
Great 1080p video in a 4k age. Way to go Canon. By the time your full frame mirrorless comes out Sonys will be shooting in 6k.
Not everyone is video-centric.
as always, good info. i would stick with the canon 80d and ignore this "ain't quite so" version of 4k. thank you for the effort and the sharing. i am an appreciative subscriber. thumbs up.
Thanks! yes, in terms of 1080 and photos quality, the 80D is essentially the same as this. There are other pros and cons to each of course...
Brighton Pier is so pretty
Thank you for this review!
I would like to ask you, which camera would you prefer for video between m50 and t7i(800d) ?
Very similar feature-set for video, although the M50 has it's basic 4k AND the chance to compose and playback video through the viewfinder. In its favour though, the 800D / T7i ultra wide EF-S lens is cheaper than the EF-M equivalent, so it depends if you'll be buying that too. In terms of the body though, I'd go M50.
PS - if you're buying it online, please consider going through my links here or at cameralabs.com, thanks!

Gordon Laing not going to lie, I’m looking into but it crops 4K, is it normal? & do camera have a software update to? Sorry just first time buying one
@@vivekwastaken255 yes it crops 4k, but do you need uncropped 4k? I would use it as a 1080 camera alone.
Gordon Laing thank you I’ll just go with M50 then
