  • In this video, we are simplifying our wardrobe and focusing on the four essential jackets every minimalist needs. By choosing only four versatile pieces, you can easily create a range of stylish and practical outfits without overwhelming your closet. Of course, these four jackets will depend on your lifestyle and climate but I challenge you to embrace the minimalist mindset and pick only four jackets.

Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well and allows you to own less and own better.

I got a Banana Republic peacoat about 8 years ago. It's not available anymore, but it is the style with a removable "liner" in the hem, which is more just like a fake layer, since it doesn't actually line the cost, just closes off the usual gaps a peacoat would leave - the front of the chest, and neck. It's a fantastic coat, and I wear it as my fall/winter go to coat. They're super versatile, especially with the removable fake layer.
I did not take care of it, but the exterior looks great, I just need to reline it 😅

@@justicebinder6544 I got mine through bison trading out of Vancouver and it is an aero leather jacket. From what I’ve read they are very high end in the leather work and they actually had the contract to make them for the American military during ww2. It was made to measure. I couldn’t be happier with both aero and bison trading. I paid 1800 if i remember correctly. So not the most expensive of the b7 models but i can’t complain in any way about the jacket

@@KyleMeyer949 not cheap by any measure either. Something I’ll probably hold off on till I have more money. I live in Missouri, and it definitely can be well below freezing here but it’s not THAT cold where I need a b7.

Love the Alberta shout out. I work snow removal up here in the far north of the province where with the windchill it gets to minus 83 degrees Fahrenheit on occasion. I bought some of the fleeces you mentioned in your cold weather videos and they have been a huge upgrade over my typical mid layer (usually a Sherpa lined flannel or a crew neck). However with the workers on the oil fields and construction sites here you rarely actually see heavy parkas unless it's people who do not move much like equipment operators or sign holders. Typically it's just heavy bibs or coveralls and a lighter jacket. This is to prevent sweating.

Good list. I would add a dedicated rain coat, especially if you live in the PNW. Also I get a lot more use out of my down puffer than my parka. I get way too hot in the latter unless it's 0F / -15C or lower.

For extremely cold regions I have PHD Omega Parka, out of the UK. A U.S. option would be Feathered Friends. Thanks for a great channel. Always get some good ideas on clothing. Coolest jackets are the Crust Punk jackets. Putting studs and spikes is one thing, but building up a band patch collection as you go to more and more shows, building up a sweaty patina from going in the pits… They are like the shield to a spartan. Every crust punk dies with his/her jacket it’s a rule

For leather jackets the BEST quality/price ratio I've ever found is Soul Revolver. Fantastic wide range of styles for around $400-500. Sounds like a lot but honestly anything less isn't worthwhile, just get denim.
I highly recommend their Ghost Rider which is a simplified classic 50's style and the Café Racer style, a bit more modern. Both have the back pleats/gussets that allow a slimmer fit with ease of motion. Their bonber styles are great too.

On overcoats, size your first one like a pea coat. To fit on a thick sweater not a suit jacket, looks way better on days you don't need a suit jacket underneath. Pair it with a nice paisley scarf and you're good to go. I have 9 of them in wool melton wool twill, cotton twill and leather. If you're tall, long coats are the only way to go.

I have a Mountain Hardware parka and only use it a few times a year but boy is it worth it when you need to be outside for a few hours. Buy them in the early summer you save about 40% on a $700 jacket. Have a sherling bomber jacket and thats my favorite once they break in there's nothing better , just a cool nostalgic jacket. Only problem is the occasional smart ass that asks were you flew in from.

  • @BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists

This was pretty humorous. The FOUR coats you need, then Carl reels off 45 of em. Also consider some of us move around a lot for work. What works at 10 below is not the same as 25-35 and wet. What works on land is not the same as with a pair of waders. What works in dry isn't the same as a coat you'd wear in the driving rain of the Olympic Rain Forest. It also depends on the needs of the activity. Are you backpacking or sitting still? Are you continually exerting or working in pulses. If I think about it I MIGHT whittle it down to 8 or 8 coats. That's a bit more than four.

Carl, What jacket are you wearing to the far left in the thumbnail?

That was a jacket called the Brooklyn Utility Coat from Articles of Style. Unfortunately they discontinued it a few years ago.

I love your styles. Although I buy a plethora of boots; they’re for work. Flannels are for work or leisure. A d gotta admit I’m a jeans flannel and Nike air max guy all day everyday. Anyway any thoughts on Dixxon flannels? They look great but ordering online is my only way of purchasing.

I’m in a climate where a sweater is warm enough and outerwear is for making statements. I standby the top being more important than shoes. When men workout the upper body gets the most notable development. A good top draws attention to your upper body. Shoes are overrated. No one works out the feet

Literally in the first line of your video. Have heard you mention it before though. Typing this freezing my butt off in a Australia. We’re just sensitive down here as many mistake it for being warm all the time.
Oh also…you might like to do video on Bluey Jackets. 32ounce wool and genuine work cuts, not slim fit.

I don't know where you live my friend but here, you need jackets for winter and autumn/spring, and you also need formal coat for winter, and another for autumn/spring. Wearing a suit with a down jacket on the top looks quite silly in winter, but it's really the same situation with thinner jacket in the autumn.
