    4:51 dude the flap is for it to have more coverage for people who work outside. I like the flap for that same reason. I work outside a lot and with use and washing carhartts have a habit of molding to your shape and shrinking down a bit. I’m all for the old school shape which I have a couple but I like the functionality of the new ones

      brother I'm 5,8 with proportionate arms, I would never use a table saw or any heavy machinery with this jacket on because the sleeves would keep falling past my hands. Also due to my height the tail serves no purpose, my ass crack doesn't fall out lol. Also the new blanket lining and canvas material are significantly thinner on the new model so its way too cold to wear on its own where I live ( Rural Ontario). If your some fat decrepit dude with chimpanzee arms and a fat ass crack who also doesn't care about being warm I would see why you'd like the new one.

      @@GamingEvaluation you seem to be under the impression that carhartt made these updates specifically for you, there are some people who will find this jacket to perfectly fit their body type. Also if you’re dumb enough to allow your sleeves to get caught in your table saw than maybe you should call someone to do the job for you. The duck is not thinner it’s simply been pre broken in and not as stiff, this has no correlation to the warmth of the jacket and the blanket liner inside is just as thick however much softer so with the new update the jacket is still just as warm. Hope this helps :)

    Couldn’t have said this any better. Bought my J97 in 2016, not realizing Carhartt would discontinue it later. Made in USA, great fit, great quality. I now have the new model, the tail sucks ass, the sleeves extend over half of my hands, the shoulders are so damn tight that it causes every shirt I wear to bunch up and it’s uncomfortable. It shipped with a real nice hole in the pocket too…. This company has had a lasting legacy in my family but they’ve turned away from quality made in USA products, to cheap made in China beanies. Disappointing as all hell…

    the duck fabric used to be very rugged and stiff and had to be broken in. now it is soft.

    My issue is that they started outsourcing everything, got my first carhartt barn coat with the wool blanket lining at Sunny’s surplus when I was 13. It was USA made and tough as nails, I still were it to this day, I’m 36 now. Worn to work, and as my general coat, still works great. Little faded but still awesome. I got a duck blanket lined Detroit jacket last Christmas, it’s not bad, it is warm, and the lining is softer. Overall it seems ok, we’ll see how it holds up.

    You're a child?
    What you call a diaper design, is to keep your back warm stretching and bending as you work outside. A double zipper is designed for a person to unzip the lower part slightly to allow a little extra freedom in the waist while sitting outside and working. Carhartt designs products for function first, not style. Adult men work and have different shapes and sizes than children ... who game in moms basement.

    • @GamingEvaluation
      @GamingEvaluation  10 місяців тому +7

      And You're an old man named Gary Czynski with no front teeth whos shaped like a potato? I mean I don't even know where to start with you man, there's no double zipper on the Carhartt jacket with a diaper so those "functions" you like so much don't even exist together. Double zippers are only on the Carhartt "WIP" brand which is strictly fashion and not workwear. The current version of the normal Carhartt Detroit jacket is also its thinnest so good luck keeping your "back" or any part of you warm in it. And you really want to give me that whole "everyone is different sizes" bs? You only have one playlist on your profile and its 80% cooking videos so I know exactly why your ass crack needs extra concealment. Have fun gumming on a twinkly and watching grass grow 😘

    Ummmm its got a tail because its workwear and men bend over while wearing their jackets so they dont show crack. The sleeves are longer to cover the wrist when reaching..... its first and foremost workwear.

    • @GamingEvaluation
      @GamingEvaluation  11 місяців тому +1

      I get what your saying and would totally agree if the durability of the jacket stayed consistent with the previous models, but it decreased dramatically. Don't understand the point of adding all these additional workwear features if the jacket itself is no longer made of workwear material. It is too thin too wear on its own ( At least in Canada). Also for someone whos short like me, the longer sleeves would only create additional hazards in work scenarios. Also since I'm short the butt flap is obsolete, it's just way too low and I don't have any problems with the straight cut backs exposing my "crack". They also had a "Tall" Version of the previous model for lengthier folks. And I'll be honest I am not in a trade, but I do live in a rural area and have to use machinery in the cold pretty frequently. I would be very cold and uncomfortable in the current Carhartt jacket model that's available if that's all I had.

    Truth bomb! I really don't understand the mostly good reviews on the new Detroit Jackets on Amazon, Carhartt and other sites. Seems to most people this is to 100% a fashion statement and they don't care about quality or are not able to distinguish between good and bad. I own one of the new chore coats, they also have this soft blanket lining and it wears down and gets "soggy" after just a few wears. Also stitching at the sleeves is going lose, all after not wearing for 1 season. So sad to see such an iconic brand go south. In my town (in Germany) we even have a WIP store, where all the hipsters go, but as you said, it is expensive af - but I think, the quality here IS a bit better than the new Carhartt workwear stuff.

    I can easily get a brand new Detroit jacket with the short cut. I have one from work that's company branded and one I wear outside of work. I also have the Carhartt vest from my job (I work in a warehouse in the Pacific North West) that has the drop tail. I'm warm and comfy in the elements at all times so I don't know what you're talking about when it comes to quality. I'm constantly going in and out of the rain, hitting walls and scraping against boxes. I'm also currently looking at the website and as of the date of this post there is a Detroit jacket without a tail. When I wear the short cut the jacket rides up. The drop tail keeps the elements like rain and snow from hitting my jeans. As far as WIP goes, its a European brand made for hipsters. Let them blow their money. This stuff is fine and it should matter.

    I own the 103828. The label says "Made In India" (wouldn't have bought it, if I had known before). I would say that neither the blanket lining nor the outer material is thin. On the opposite the jacket feels rather stiff and is also quite heavy. Definitely not a jacket for weekly casual wear. Don't know if it's as per original design, but the jacket sleeves have also a thin quilt lining. I was told they added the strip of bum-warmer at the bottom of the jacket as an extra protection for those working in the cold. Not very attractive, I agree, therefore the jacket is not part of my casual outfit.

    The sleeves are absurdly long, it has to be an error. I am 5' 6" athletic build, and medium t shirts (or slightly shrunken large) fit me perfectly. The small has an astonishing 35" +/- 0.25" inch long sleeve (when measured from center back of neck to hem of sleeve), the dickies version of this jacket has a 35" inch long sleeve on the XL size, and 32.25" long sleeve on the small.

    Great video man, it's so hard to find quality made-in-country products anymore. I love comparing older models of the same article of clothing to newer ones. Any videos comparing other popular jackets like ones from Filson, Barbour, Dickies, LL Bean, etc. would be sick. Most of us are buying these via vintage outlets anyway and I appreciate knowing model numbers and production years. I'd rather spend a couple hundred on a quality vintage piece than waste money on a newer, inferior model.

The problem is early carhart wears (if you worked) peeled the store tags off (no working people keep stickers on their hats or gear.) and we would ball them up and drag them behind our trucks to beat’em up - Or break them in. Carhartt WIP OG Detriot Jacket Winter version (and Carhartt WIP OG Active Jacket of which they have several versions) have very thick, nearly artic level quilt lining. Significantly more than what you would find on the mainline Carhartt version. So they are the warmest versions you will find. That should justify the price a little. You can wear a jacket like this all throughout the winter with a sweater underneath and not feel a thing. I used to own a Carhartt WIP OG Detriot Jacket Winter version for 15 years, from 2000 when I first moved to the Netherlands until 2015. I put on too much weight to fit in it anymore.
    The main issue with Carhartt WIP is the sizing. The jackets are a much smaller European size so they won't fit bigger people. Other than that, the OGs are just as durable as the mainline versions. And yes, the prices have gone up significantly since I owned mine back in the day. I would say double. It's also much more expensive in North America than it is in Europe due to import taxes. I would suggest going to a store and trying one out for yourself and making a decision based on that.
    Currently I own a mainline Carhartt Detroit Jacket, a pre 2019 version and a mainline Carhartt Active Jacket J140. However, the blanket lining in the Detroit Jacket is not warm enough to wear on really cold days. The Active Jacket's Quilt Flannel lining fairs a little better but still not ideal. So I switch to a Wellensteyn Starstream (which is even more expensive) on really cold and rainy days. Hopefully, when I loose enough weight, I'll be able to fit in a Carhartt WIP OG again or I might try one of those Canadian, Tough Duck Chore Jackets, nearly identical to the Carhartt WIP OG Detroit Jacket I used to own, this however, should fit me.

I can say the WIP stuff is worse, not the same quality, often thinner fabric and higher prices. Most of my Carhartt clothes are made in mexico and a few in the US, while my bib overall (WIP) is made in Tunisia, has just 8-ounce instead of 12 and no studs at all. Ps. the Detroit jacket was never a really warm jacket, I even got an older one with even a thinner lining, which I just wear in spring and autumn.

      Love the camo one so much! and I find deals like that all the time in the UK but since I'm in Canada whatever the sale price is will double with customs duties and shipping. so if I found one for £60 that's 100cad plus taxes and duties will be 200 Canadian ;(

    I always disliked that they added a flap. I understand why, but couldn’t we have had a jacket and a coat version? I love my old style jacket, but I’d buy a longer coat style quick.

    I bought the new Detroit version. Sleeves covered my entire hand. No adjusting waist so it’s unusable and freezing if there is a breeze. I think k I might be done with Carhartt. Bought the Yukon extremes jacket. Worst jacket I’ve ever had. Zipper just broke after two years of light use

    I have a j97 from 2008, a c03 from 2004, and a hooded one, (cant remember what its called as it has no tags or logos on and its labeled irregular but seems to fit and be a nice color so idk). Love all 3 of them and use them for work/going out. Only grievance i really have is the c03 is longer even tho its the same size as the other 2 but maybe cropping it to the same length as the j97 may help it

    Hello bro, I am just curious why are you compare carhartt OG Detroit jacketwith WIP Detroit jacket.
    WIP line is actually Europe company considering fashion brand such as Stussy or levis.
    if levis makes 90% cotton + 10% spandex jeans still you can understand that right? You will not say bad words that they are not making any 15oz rigid denim for worker.
    I know OG old version brown leather logo Detroit jacket got famous for fashion because it looks nice, but that is not meaning that carhartt OG have to keep the same way for worker.
    They were changing clothes almost 200 years for worker, and that is the reason why real worker choose carhartt when we work in construction site. NOT FOR FASHION BRAND

    • @GamingEvaluation
      @GamingEvaluation  2 місяці тому +1

      Sorry i think the WIP names might of created confusion, when I'm talking about the OG Detroit jacket model I am referring to the style called (OG Detroit) that is a version of the Detroit jacket that is made by WIP currently. There is no OG version of the main Carhartt brand at the moment, only the newer styles which I don't find to hold up to the quality of the WIP OG Detroit Model. I own the current most updated version of the normal detroit jacket and also own 2 versions of the WIP detroit jackets with one of them being the OG Winter model. I find the OG to have the thickest duck and best construction. I also find it to be heavier and warmer when compared to the current normal brand Detroit jacket ( blanket lined). My issue is that WIP makes a better, warmer, and better constructed jacket that would be more suitable for workers when compared to Carhartt's main line, The closest thing you can buy to an old original brand detroit jacket is the new WIP OG Detroit and I wish that the original brand would just go back to making them the way they were when they produced them in the U.S. Its the equivalent to Levis having a normal brand and a fashion brand where the fashion brand is 15oz denim ( great for outdoor work) and the main line is 8oz cheap denim. It just doesn't make sense the fashion brand should focus on appearance and the main line should focus on quality and being good for working in, not the other way around

    There's a fact among everyone commenting including op... None of yall are wholesale purchasing carhartt. At the end of the day, they make the most money off companies that mass buy this jacket for their employees and that's who their audience is. Your single jacket purchase or x amount for ebay won't change their earnings. There's some feedback theyve been getting from noone here that we don't know about and seems like the company's doing just fine.

  • @redmond9653

    Look for a J02 "arctic lined" jacket instead of a detroit jacket. They are way cheaper and still have the waist and sleeve proportions you want, and they are much warmer because they have a quilted lining.
