Yeah, it's a combination of having some universal comebacks that you see him reuse across shows and also actually good improv. So yes, he has some stuff in his head, but he's also quick on his feet... in his head... 🤔

There are no haters at a Jimmy Carr shows, Americans heckler are always angry, they aren’t like British or Australian hecklers, heckling is part of British stand up comedy. British comedy is two way from crowd to comedian some of the best joke are from these interactions, it all starts 100’s of years ago at Christmas pantomimes. In “panto” the crowd are as much part of the show as the actors, when you see a British concert, football match or any other crowd event, we pick up the vibe & just join in, this starts as kids going to a panto. It’s near impossible to explain a pantomime to someone who hasn’t seen one. They are for kids but there are loads of joke for the parents that go over the kids heads but have the adult rolled up laughing.
I assume Jimmy has prepared jokes, like he's been at this game long enough he can anticipate the sort of heckles he'll get and prepare responses accordingly, maybe adapting them in the moment for a given situation. It may not be completely off the fly but it'a still pretty impressive to me.

They're not haters they're actually encouraged to heckle, it's part of his act...
If you watch enough you'll discover he has a selection of retorts he uses in his act. These aren't coming off the top of his head. They're rehearsed and tested before we hear them, I suspect the audience is genuine but the he simply selects the one most suitable for the response...

I just think the hecklers are not very bright or they just want to be cursed out, Jimmy Carr does not need plants I see him ruin celebs in front of them.

It never fails to amuse me to see how bemused you Americans chaps are by British comics. We, Brits, are not restrained by sex, colour, religion or bugger all else, anything can be funny if told correctly.
