Jimmy Carr told the story of how this game came about. He said that when it was pitched, everyone thought it was a stupid idea and dismissed it. Everyone, that is, except Sean Lock. He was the one who saw the comedy potential of it. He wasn't known as the comedian's comedian for nothing.
Jimmy also told the story of how that first game utterly destroyed Jon for several weeks. His game play went downhill as Sean continued to tease him off camera.
We played this last Christmas when all the family came around…kids v adults, kids v kids, adults v adults. The only difference was that I called it Chocolate in a box….it was a great success and lasted for nearly three hours. Lots of chocolate was won and lost, but just shows how you can adapt a simple game into big family fun.
Agree. That seemed a little unfair. Personally, having seen these many times, I'm still a little uneasy they did a third. A fan of Lee Mack too, and John who very skilfully plays his likeable charactature. However - and I'm sure all the regular cast were as devestated at the loss of Sean as Jimmy Carr later said he was in interview - I think they should have dedicated the game to Sean out of respect and left it at two.
I wouldn't have caught it if I hadn't read your comment first. Her face almost made me cry 😢😢 And then of COURSE it could only be Lee Mack to bring a smile back to our faces 😊
Sean and Jon were the team captains in 8 Out of 10 Cats, so when Does Countdown came out, they were team captains there too. Occasionally, they would have guest team captains, and when Sean was away for long periods of time due to ill health, they’d rotate captains on the show. Primarily though, they were the main cast of both shows alongside Jimmy, as well as Susie and Rachel on Does Countdown.
In British game shows there is always two permanent team captains and usually two guests every week. There is always rivalry either comedic or for dramatic entertainment value.
Jodie bless you, your face when you found out about Sean, it was such a beautiful moment of human emotion. Seeing you be so empathetic for someone was really touching. Sean's humour was this kind of blunt and gruff persona, but you always heard he was an absolute sweetheart. He and John were the two main captains on 8 out 10 cats does countdown for most of its history, bar being off for holiday or illness. I think Lee is taking over as the other permanent captain now against john.
I've been waiting for this one since I stumbled across your channel a while ago. Commenting before watching is risky but never with you guys. Now I'm gonna sit back & laugh along with you.
What’s funny is that when this idea was pitched Jimmy and John were hesitant and were not convinced. Sean without hesitation decided they were doing it. Jimmy discussed this in an interview
It's so funny watching these particular reactions. People starting off nonchalantly, oh yeah, carrot and by the end dissecting in detail every movement of the 'contestants ' faces...that's the genius of it. It's a carrot, people! It's in a spangly box! Who tf cares?! We all do by the end. 😂 brilliant!
I hope you are going to watch other episodes. They are always great fun but you must remember to watch what is going on as the seconds are counting down as so many funny things happen
I wonder how many times recently at Christmas a parent said, "not Monopoly this year" .... "Carrot is a box".... because no one wins at Monopoly as the board gets thrown into the back garden by someone at some point, same with Trivial Pursuit but you do get a winner with carrot in a box
"Why does Jimmy look so different?" He got older + he had some more cosmetic surgery done. Jimmy doesn't hide it and the other comedians will often tease/make fun of/roast him for it during their banter on the show, eg. saying he looks like a "ventriloquist's dummy", "Thunderbirds puppet", etc.
Can't really hide it anyway, people will naturally become suspicious if you appear not to have aged for a number of years. Jimmy still looks pretty much the same as he did when he started out in comedy 20 odd years ago.
He changed the side of his hair parting too which is what makes such a difference. It used to be on the left when you looked at him but its now on the right.
I love the silly innuendos The 1st round, When he said you've got to convince him to swap his box or keep your box... the way it wa worded meant he could simply choose to keep his own box... flaw in the game... Jimmy's ploughing on... 😂 Aye, the most stupid game. But little things amuse little minds... I love it
Funniest moment EVER on this Show is Joe's Story during poetry episode! It makes Sean laugh so much he can barely breathe! And making Sean genuinely laugh was rhe highest accolade for UK comedians!! 😂
It is more fun with longer clips, because Jon can't stop going on and on for the rest of the shows about how he does not care... Jon sense of humor here is often underestimated. Both Jon and his wife, Lucy Beaumont, is great at this type of humor. Jon's wife has been on this show when she amonst other things were assessing their marriage so far, and it's very funny. They also have their own christmas show, but i have not seen it yet.
Sean was actually the one who saw the potential in Carrot in a box, both Jimmy and Jon like you guys thought it was a stupid idea but Sean saw the potential and thought it would be really funny. Sean was known as the comedians comedian as when he was on stage all the other comics would come out of their dressing rooms to watch him perform. He was a surrealist comic and would tell a joke but then take a complete left turn and even the professional comics would have no idea where it was going. His death hit the British comedy circuit pretty hard and his fellow comic's were heartbroken by such a loss.
As many has mentioned Sean and Jon was always the team captains. when they weren't there was a "guest team captain". and if you ever see one after Sean passed the ones sitting is his place are all introduced as guest team captains. there will always be only one Sean lock, and he makes me smile every time I see him.
Sean n Jon are Always there as Team Captains! Other comedians are guests, some of which have been on several shows....if they are deemed funny enough on the show, as some stand ups arent as good on a panel show format! Sean was regarded as one of the absolute best UK comedians, for his surreal humour and unique comedy stories that were brilliantly dazzling n hilarious original ...he was my fave comedian by far! And like many I only watched the show because Sean was in it! Great double act with Jon, but even Jon knew Sean was the Star of the show really! If it wasn't for Sean, I seriously doubt thr show would have such a huge success, as it was only supposed to be a one off for Charity really, but Sean made it all work.😂
The only people who knew how sick he was was his immediate family and his best friend and fellow comic Bill Bailey, they came up the ranks together in comedy were friends for 30 years and their families went on holidays together. His last appearance on screen was actually to help a charity, he looked very unwell but you have to give him props for being so selfless despite the fact he didn't have much time left.
Surely everyone knew he was ill? Anyone who saw his last appearances on Cate Does Countdown must have known. He disappeared off it for a while and came back looks really frail.
YES Jodi! Love the fact at one point you said, Im not really thinking about it, Im just enjoying the show. This is exactly the right approach, Nick gets so obsessed with what is right and wring, and Also in WILTY, that he forgets it is just a tool for the humour which is the key thing of these shows.
Sean was the one who wanted to put this game on the show. Jimmy Carr, in an interview, said that when the idea was pitched to them both he and John weren’t sure about it and it was Sean who pushed for it so even though he looked and played confused he knew exactly what he was doing. I have watched all the “Carrot in a Box” videos numerous times and they never stop being funny.
That's actually not a good place to stop. The Lee Mack clip continues for a reason: they keep referring back to the carrot game for a while during the puzzle, and it's all funny too. You should watch the rest. Not sure if there's another carrot in a box yet.
Naked Attraction is a television show that takes the concept of first impressions to a whole new level. It's like a dating show, but with an added twist - everyone is completely naked! Contestants stand in individual pods while their potential suitors examine their naked bodies from toe to head. Yes, you heard that right, no clothes, no filters, just pure vulnerability. It's a hilarious yet surprisingly intriguing concept that uses humorous commentary to break the ice and remind us all that appearances can be deceiving. So, if you're ever in the mood for a show that combines dating, humour, and a touch of awkwardness. Certainly not one to watch with family!
Did I give this a Thumbs Up or a Thumbs Down You (two) decide! If you lose, I unsub! But will quickly resub after because I don't want to miss more of this greatness, and yep poor Sean, RIP
There's a version of the game that they did recently on the standard 8 out of 10 cats. They don't use a carrot though, it involves nudity, so i think you can guess what's in the box
Sean was still alive when this was made as Sean was suppose to he on the show but depending on how he felt and Lee stood in for Sean a few times this series when Sean was to unwell - why Lee mentions when called me doing carpet in box as he’d prob only he called that day that Sean couldn’t make it Sean lock sadly passed away same week as Norm MacDonald
Jimmy looks different as he has had a hair transplant. Carr doesn’t hide the fact & has mentioned it several times in his act. & Sean Lock a comic genius who is sadly missed. Well done guys. 🥕
There is a video on Jimmy Carr's official channel called Jimmy Remembers Sean Lock & Carrot In A Box . covers some topics from this video... It gets a bit spicey in the end.
Sean and Jon were the team captains but were sometimes away and there would be a guest captain. There so far hasn't been a permanent replacement for Sean after his death
When they laugh at a carrot in my box, box is another term for bum in the UK, that's why they were laughing. Indeed, RIP sean, he was a funny guy on this show.
they came up with two games for the interval, i cant remember the other game, it was sean that said, straight away, we going with carrot in the box, i guess that was his comedic vision, rest in peace sean
Seans Genius is that his moaning from the very start is the beginning of his set up con over John! He carries on the moaning i dont give a shit......but its his long bluff! Which confuses john as he doesnot know if hes acting or playing the game! Sean wins either way as he gets rhe laughs wim or lose!😂
Haha, that's great!
It makes his disdain for the idea in the first round even funnier 😂
Jimmy also told the story of how that first game utterly destroyed Jon for several weeks. His game play went downhill as Sean continued to tease him off camera.
RIP Sean. Comic genius using a carrot and a box 😄
We have Sean to thank for it too, both Jon and Jimmy thought it was stupid but Sean thought it would be really funny. Sean was right, fkn legend.
He died as he lived: the undefeated champion of Carrot in a Box.
We played this last Christmas when all the family came around…kids v adults, kids v kids, adults v adults. The only difference was that I called it Chocolate in a box….it was a great success and lasted for nearly three hours. Jodie's face when you told her about Sean was a bit heartbreaking. R.I.P Sean you brilliant man

However - and I'm sure all the regular cast were as devestated at the loss of Sean as Jimmy Carr later said he was in interview - I think they should have dedicated the game to Sean out of respect and left it at two.
sure but you can understand the opposite sentiment. they did it to keep seans legacy going @@pomerau
I just noticed that. Made me feel sad about it all over again
I wouldn't have caught it if I hadn't read your comment first. Her face almost made me cry 😢😢
And then of COURSE it could only be Lee Mack to bring a smile back to our faces 😊
People die everyday, he'd be pissed off with people still saying RIP. "Leave me alone!! Let me rest in bloody peace!!"
Rachel Riley... "That's a tough wank!" 😂😂😂
Sean and Jon still are the team captains, Sean's team gets a guest captain every show.
Sean Lock died undefeated at Carrot in a Box
That was probably his greatest achievement in life.
Technically he turned into a carrot
Jodi, your face when you heard about Sean 😢 you angel. ❤
He isn't. There are no plans for a new series captain.
Schrodinger's carrot... Until you open the box, it's both there, and not there!! lol
dang thats a small carrot
the 8.36 video ''Moving Tribute To Sean Lock | The National Comedy Awards | Channel 4.''
In the Lee Mack clip, the fallout continues through to the end of the letters round.
Too many edits on these three.
Great choice watching all 3. Best way to do it.
I've been waiting for this one since I stumbled across your channel a while ago. Commenting before watching is risky but never with you guys. Now I'm gonna sit back & laugh along with you.
Glad to see you do longer videos
What’s funny is that when this idea was pitched Jimmy and John were hesitant and were not convinced. Sean without hesitation decided they were doing it. Jimmy discussed this in an interview
It's so funny watching these particular reactions. People starting off nonchalantly, oh yeah, carrot and by the end dissecting in detail every movement of the 'contestants ' faces...that's the genius of it.
It's a carrot, people! It's in a spangly box!
Who tf cares?!
We all do by the end. 😂 brilliant!
RIP Sean. He growing carrots in his box now.
I hope you are going to watch other episodes. They are always great fun but you must remember to watch what is going on as the seconds are counting down as so many funny things happen
Jimmy looks different because he's had everything in & on his head done. Poor Seany was hilarious to the end.
I wonder how many times recently at Christmas a parent said, "not Monopoly this year" .... "Carrot is a box".... because no one wins at Monopoly as the board gets thrown into the back garden by someone at some point, same with Trivial Pursuit but you do get a winner with carrot in a box
"Naked Carrot in a Box, Rat in a Hat, Buzzwire, Duck Bluffing + More! | 8 Out of 10 Cats"
The carrot in a box starts at 03:15
It's disappointing that these compilations never have the dick in a box one
"Why does Jimmy look so different?"
He got older + he had some more cosmetic surgery done. Jimmy doesn't hide it and the other comedians will often tease/make fun of/roast him for it during their banter on the show, eg. saying he looks like a "ventriloquist's dummy", "Thunderbirds puppet", etc.

So good. RIP Sean 😞
I love the silly innuendos

Aye, the most stupid game. But little things amuse little minds... I love it
Sean was one of the best, loved his sense of humor and he had perfect delivery. A big loss.
you may already know watching it, but sean has passed, RIP sean legend
15:30 and 16:15 As they talked about it twice, I think there's a chance that they already know.
@@thegroovetube3247 yeah, i left my comment as they started, as did not appear as they knew, troll
There is a variation that was done on the normal 8 out of 10 cats, which is Prnis in a Box
You should watch the tribute to Sean lock presented by Harry Hilll, it's moving and funny, it shows how much Sean lock was loved.
Oh, shazzbot. You missed Lee rubbing in his victory. That was the best part of that segment.
Yup, he cut off just before Jon realised he was losing countdown too 😂😂😂
Nick with no hat threw me a little 😂😂😂😂 it feels wrong hahaha
Much better without the silly hat indoors nonsense.
You missed the end of the video. Why pause before the end when it's a clip specifically edited for the segment?
Funniest moment EVER on this Show is Joe's Story during poetry episode! It makes Sean laugh so much he can barely breathe! And making Sean genuinely laugh was rhe highest accolade for UK comedians!! 😂
great stuff guys ive never seen all 3 put together like that
ahh the disappointment in your face Jodi when Nick told you about Sean. 15:37😥

They are the Team Captains just like David Mitchell and Lee Mack on WILTY

Don't you play carrot in a box in the US? It's massive in the UK, everyone plays it.
Favourite game to play at Xmas 😂
Sean had cancer. It wasn't public. When he died, it shocked a lot of people because I don't think anyone outside friends and family knew
The only people who knew how sick he was was his immediate family and his best friend and fellow comic Bill Bailey, they came up the ranks together in comedy were friends for 30 years and their families went on holidays together. the first time they did it is still one of the funniest things i've ever watched on the tv
Respect & Peace ☘
Sean was the one who wanted to put this game on the show. That's the thing with these shows, you forget what they are doing because they infiltrate your brain through banter!
That's actually not a good place to stop. The Lee Mack clip continues for a reason: they keep referring back to the carrot game for a while during the puzzle, and it's all funny too. You should watch the rest.
Not sure if there's another carrot in a box yet.
Sean was one of those people who read others like a book. Jon was utterly transparent to him. It's next level intelligence.
Sean created lots of laughter that we can still enjoy today, R.I.P. Sean
They are spaced out 2m apart as this was filmed after Covid. the boxes are further apart, the team members are further apart etc.

God bless Sean. RIP . One of the funniest guys I've ever seen. 💔
Type "Joe's poem" into your search bar...
Did I give this a Thumbs Up or a Thumbs Down
You (two) decide!
If you lose, I unsub!
But will quickly resub after because I don't want to miss more of this greatness, and yep poor Sean, RIP
Sean was devious 😂 fkn love him 😂❤
It's amazing how you know everything after the fact. She must be a saint to deal with you.
John "I don't see why you would build a game out of deception" - everyone "check out WILTY for your answer".
16:50 it's Jimmy's new hair bothering you lol. It bothers me too. Dunno where he bought it but it's like it doesn't even grow.
There's a version of the game that they did recently on the standard 8 out of 10 cats. They don't use a carrot though, it involves nudity, so i think you can guess what's in the box
RIP Sean. Superb comedian!
Brilliant tribute to Sean lock by Jimmy with the thunder dome comment 👏 rip Sean lock taken from us far to soon 😢
Absolutely loved sean what a genius ❤
joe Wilkinson on 8 out of 10 cats does countdown is brilliant you have to see his bits on the show.
Sean had already passed away by the time they did it a third time. You could see he was already very ill in the second one. He was replaced with Lee.
R.I.P Sean Locke, one of the great british comedians.
This is peak tv man honestly.. ❤
Sean was still alive when this was made as Sean was suppose to he on the show but depending on how he felt and Lee stood in for Sean a few times this series when Sean was to unwell - why Lee mentions when called me doing carpet in box as he’d prob only he called that day that Sean couldn’t make it
Sean lock sadly passed away same week as Norm MacDonald
RIP sean... ❤carrot in a box is fukin stupid lol 😂 but so typically British and i loooooove it ❤ Sean will never be beat lol 😂
I cant see this game flying in america. It works on EOOTCDC purely because of these characters and their gentle banter.
This is best of Sean.....just a genius...RIP
Overused term, but true legend.
Yeah, they were the main guys for a long like David and Lee. They are both very different but very funny, like David and Lee
This will definitely bring in traffic and I'm glad you've gotten around to it
Jimmy "looks different" because he has had " work done " !
You need to watch NAKED CARROT IN A BOX .
"Why does he look so different, Jimmy Carr?" I donnu, but he has had some work done on his face
Sean and Jon were the team captains but were sometimes away and there would be a guest captain. There so far hasn't been a permanent replacement for Sean after his death
Nick said he'd never seen Naked Attraction. I wouldn't recommend watching it on one of your reviews!
Sean should have been teaching the CIA interrogation techniques 😂
They are the team captain's until one died they were always there
When they laugh at a carrot in my box, box is another term for bum in the UK, that's why they were laughing. Indeed, RIP sean, he was a funny guy on this show.
Guys I have to ask - do you not have shows like this in the USA?
RIP Sean 🙏 miss that man
Katherine Ryan played carrot in a box with a twist😈
I go congratulations you won !
Jon Richardson: The world's gentlest King Kong
Never seen Nick without a hat. It’s freaking me out.
Was a huge fan of Sean Lock for many years. Not too proud to admit I had a little cry when I heard of his passing.
dont stop watching until the video is fully over!
they came up with two games for the interval, i cant remember the other game, it was sean that said, straight away, we going with carrot in the box, i guess that was his comedic vision, rest in peace sean
Only person who made Jimmy carr cry with laughter was Sean Locke
Seans Genius is that his moaning from the very start is the beginning of his set up con over John! He carries on the moaning i dont give a shit......but its his long bluff! Which confuses john as he doesnot know if hes acting or playing the game! Sean wins either way as he gets rhe laughs wim or lose!😂
"Are you trying to Monty Hall me?!"
Jon and Sean are team captains.
Like David and Lee on WILTY.
Sean and Jon are the team captains the only time they are not is if they have another commitment
I like Sean Lock's stand up stand up stuff. Watch it sometime.
They have two captains that appear every week and two visitors on each side
It's always Shaun and Jon because they are team captains
