Saudades.

    Having left the UK some 55 years ago, I am in awe at the progbress made by Network Rail and others. The commentary, history and geography lessons leave me absolutely gob smacked. And this cmes from from an ex pat who has not seen a train or had the opportunity to ride in one for at least FOUR years. Thanks Paul.

    Thanks great footage and loads of info! I lived very close to the line, between Gailey (worked at the Spread Eagle for a year) and Penkridge. We used to walk along the Huntington colliery line. As a kid I used to watch the 8F steam locos pulling dark red coaches (or was it freight) enveloped in thick clouds of smoke as I did the washing up.

    ….hmmmnn… people refer to the cuts made by “Beeching” (c 1963/4). The much maligned doctor didn’t clise anything - Alec Douglas-Home’s conservative and subsequently Harold Wilson’s labour governments did the hatchet job! Beeching only made recommendations based on line foot-fall & revenue.

    This is professional quality. I preferred this to video125 productions. I've signed this route for 18 months as a SC and I still learned a lot, especially between stops which we don't cover that much off in our training. Weird to think I could have been the SC on this trip, but the timing of the TFW 158 near Coseley suggests this was filmed on the 12:04, so I could have been the SC after wolverhampton as we swap SCs at wolverhampton on the 12:22 (couldn't see me on the platform though)

    • @Aidankiwi
      @Aidankiwi 3 роки тому

      I could easily agree as this is of equitable video quality, excellent narrative and in contrast to Video 125 it shows the entire route - not with chunks edited out.

    I think it's true to state that Britain's railway operating companies do not own the rolling stock. They lease them from from three leasing companies. So you can see why our railways are so rubbish because both structures are not even British but owned by nationally run by eg. French, German, Italian and even Japanese countries. That is another reason our train fares are so expensive as we subsidise those countries rail travel.
