As an American it is easy to understand your British accent, I enjoy the brief history you give of some locations. You are an outstanding rail tour guide. Thanks Paul.
Browsing UA-cam and came across your video, which I really enjoyed,as a ex steam fireman and driver, you have certainly got to be alert on today’s trains.Best Wishes.
Electric trains are certainly better for getting from A to B quickly, but you can't beat steam in my opinion. Electric motors are boring compared to the mechanics of a steam engine.
Thanks for a wonderful journey. It was fun following you on my iPad OS map. Last time I travelled west from Leeds was across the Pennines, waiting half way across at a station with an open fire in the waiting room.
I travelled many times between Leeds City and Manchester Vic on the "Transpenine" trains of the 80's: Class 47 and seven Mk2A's. Interesting to see a modern cab view. Thanks for posting.
Just found this site and a long with DON COFFY is by far the best video for a Tain nut like me. The level of detail that goes into them is superb. I am one of these people who wants to know we’re the lines go to and a brief explanation of them. This you do were many others don’t bother hope you continue to produce more. If I could suggest trains around the Liverpool system ad Yorkshire
Used to go to York train spotting.. 0.930 from Huddersfield reaching York 10.45 am and caught the 3.15 back pennine train. With 5 coaches then and straight throw no changing going in to Huddersfield 4.15 Love my days as a train spotter.....
Excellent commentary. Perhaps in future you could reference some of the exceptional industrial companies that do, or did, have factories beside the route, or linked to it? Do you, thank you, refer to the sad loss of Parkside Colliery, once a thriving coalmine that was shut when it was still more than viable. In future we will rue the day we did such things..
pity they couldn't keep the old BG station then...just a modern bus shelter thing now. don't go there expecting anything grand it only holds the title by name. edge hill is a more historic station two stops along the line.
Great video, with one exception. Droylesden Station the next station after Ashton Station was another third of a mile further down the line towards Manchester than you described. Once past Ashton Moss, the next 2 bridges (1 concrete & 1 bridge painted green) was the location of Droylesden Station & junction. The line converged from the left coming from Stockport & Denton.
Just came across this cabview video ... very well done! I love the audio, adds greatly to the enjoyment of the journey (maybe Dan Coffey could be persuaded to add audio!)
See how nice and lightly designed are the masts supporting the catenary, right outside York station (@ 3.30), in comparison to the unnecessary heavy and steel-wasting ones on the Bristol-Paddington line, especially at the point where electrification starts, coming from Bristol. Why such a difference ? The speed are different, indeed, but we doubt it's reasonable, when we look at the Shinkansen lines
Infact, yes. You probably already now the fact that it will be. I believe the section exiting Liverpool Lime Street has been electrified, but the York - Manchester section is still awaiting. Gotta wait 5 more years for it to be done sadly
Brilliant. But... It would be better if you occasionally showed a map of where we are. At each junction maybe, and showing where the other lines that leave and join go to. Otherwise.. ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE VIDS.🥰🥰.. KEEP'EM COMING.🤞🥰.. RICH(UK).🥰🥰🥰.!.!.
Unfortunately, you have the sight of Droylsden Station wrong - it was actually located near to the green footbridge @59.35I there was a junction that trailed in from Denton just beyond the platforms and can still be traced on Google Earth! Otherwise a great video! Thanks!
The best thing done with Beeching was his dismissal by Tom Frazer (Labour) who took over from Ernest Marples (Tory) who was very much in favor of roads (he was an owner of a construction firm).
Wow! It's really incredible how long Britain has to suffer from the biggest public transport mistake ever made since the Second World War: Dieselisation. And still electrification is delayed like on this route as the creator of this interesting clip rightfully points out. One can only hope that some blessed day Britain gets its act together and electrifies at least 80% of all standard gauge railways. In Japan or Switzerland it's almost 100%!! Kid you not!!!
Perhaps when DB stop "skimming " profits from Uk rail travellers and invests it back into the UK network as it is meant to instead of diverting profits to German railways then we may get the improvements we deserve?
@@seanrobinson891 😂 I fullheartedly agree eventhough I currently live in Germany. I hope to return to Britain as soon as possible. Germany sucks. Generally speaking the British railway network is BETTER than the German system. German railways are so badly planned and so congested that even the fastest ICE train in spite of its 300 km/h top speed needs about the same travel time as a British InterCity eventhough it "only" runs at 125 mph. At comparable distances the British trains are oftentimes even slightly faster in terms of travel times. The Germans are masterful in making the railways LOOK GREAT. That's all.
@@seanrobinson891 The train companies and their profits are nothing to do with whether lines are electrified or not; that is the job of Network Rail, which is a nationalised company under the Department for Transport. The UK Government decides which lines it wants to electrify, and DB have no say. I am in favour of renationalisation of train services and bringing trains and track under one body, so that 100% of the fare revenue goes back into the railways (staff wages, rolling stock procurement and maintenance, station management, electrification etc) rather than into shareholders' pockets, but can't see that happening any time soon.
We will see but at the moment the narration has proven popular with many, so it will stay in many videos for the foreseeable. If you want to see raw footage there are plenty of youtubers out there who have done so
Love this sort of stuff however, Trans Pennine are awful. The trains are completely unreliable and I have had to stop using them and have begun to drive for my journey from Leeds to Liverpool. Driving is not great but it is so much better than being in Liverpool and wanting to get home but trains are constantly cancelled. It's not worth it, I would rather be stuck in a traffic jam. Love the video, just needed a rant about Trans Pennine!!!
Great video really enjoyed it and great commentary
Brilliant! Thank you for the effort put into this, what a great channel.

The best cab view video I have seen to date, excellent
Have travelled these places many times from 60s to 90s..great history and factual documentary
A very interesting trip full of detailed information and excellent cutaways which added to the trains progress through the journey - well done indeed!
Another excellent video with plenty of interesting history and location identification. Thanks.
UK has so beautiful trains and stations ❤

Class 68 in the Trans Penine livery look gorgeous.
Excellent, as expected. Video 125 ‘eat your heart out’. 🐨🇦🇺

Sad to see the operator of this run fail (May 2023) - amazing journey - thanks for the upload!!

Thanks for the video and the commentary.
Outstanding video - far more than a pleasurable cab ride, this is an amazing history in motion.
Thoroughly enjoyed this ride; well-informed narration! Some mis-speaking. The music is a nice touch, and an added touch. Excellent!!
Thank you. Really enjoyed it ❤️
Excellent work all around...video, editing, and narration! Thanks!
VERY PROFESIONAL , ENJOYED EVER TALE !
Brilliant, so very enjoyable and informative.
Well done Paul, your Drivers Eye View is well up to the standard of VIDEO 125 who I regard as the gold standard of Drivers Eye View videos.

Oh my god. I just saw myself in northern uniform on platform 16 at 25:31. I still keep pens on my jumper at the v-neck.
Great trip and those external shots really add to it. Must have taken a lot of effort thank you so much
hi paul i heiko from germany finde deine videos über england sehr good mache weiter so

fantastic video mate.
A little bit of history, Broad Green station is now the oldest used railway station in the world. Used to 'train-spot' there as a young boy!

I hope you had a nice train trip

The construction firm that built most of the motorways apparently
Maximum speed leaving york on the up Leeds is 100 mph. The starts at Chaloners Whin (Tesco’s)
We have travelled from Durham to Manchester Airport in the Trans Pennine.
Loving it. Though it's Holgate Junction, not Holdgate Junciton (3:50)
TransPennine Express Class 185
York holgate not holdgate few mistakes in commentary but good video

The usual grey English skies. Even Starmer can't do anything about that!
Compared to the trains I am used to, this is a really slow train. It's also impressively quiet.
1:36:56 notice the class 319 to the left still in Thameslink livery
The proper one goes coast to coast Hull to Liverpool port to port You can join it in Selby if travelling from York
Not sure how the Liverpool and Manchester railway can be called the first inter-city as Manchester was not made a city until 1853!
Just a correction it’s holgate not holdgate
The station called Churwell is there any History about it please
Does this pass through Trafford park down where GCE or GEC used to be
No, that’s the old CLC line via Warrington and Urmston into Manchester.

19:40 BAD BEECHING! YOU SHOULDN’T HAD ACTS IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Either the driver is a complete maniac or you've speeded this up somewhat.
