He was an animal back in the day.. always trying to improve and “compete” in a kind of way with the drumming from King Crimson or ELP.. and of course he won by far 😂
Your closing remarks were great man. I'm 21 and I've been going through my own issues right now and it can definitely be a lot. I got into Yes a few years ago and my love for them only got stronger. Especially hearing their longer pieces. But you spoke to me at the end bc its the same way i feel about them. Nobody else sounds like them, and they're music has been a comforting friend to me at a time where i dont feel like i have many. I listen to them everyday and it never gets old. You'll enjoy The Revealing Science of God when you get to it. Keep going you got this.
Thank you so much I appreciate it. Music is so powerful. It evokes so much emotion and nostalgia just from pressing a button (nowadays) and letting the music flow. But I feel like yes is special. They just have this POWER in their music that is almost indescribable. Thank you.
Outstanding Young Man! Keep the faith, and yes, Tales from Topographic Oceans is right up there with Close to the Edge and Relayer! I think so anyway, I think Wakeman had a hard time with this album, composition wise! Think I remember hearing something to that effect over the years. But anyway ✌️
@@L33Reacts I absolutely agree. Music is a powerful thing when you allow it to be. Especially when you find music that touches and feeds your soul. I'm very centered around 60s-90s. I'll always wish I were old enough to get to see Yes 20+ years ago or especially the late 70s. Of course man.
@@josephnaja 100%! Tales is a great album and from what I've seen it aged like wine. You're right about Wakeman I actually had a meet and greet with him earlier this year and he thought it had more potential but a lot of filler to get the lengths to where they needed to be. But that in his older years he appreciates the album more for what it is. His first solo album also came out around the time they recorded Tales so his energy wasn't with it.
@@britannicvalente Yup, that's right, was it Six Wives or Journey to the Centre of the Earth, or Myths and Legends or all of them? I know he was back with Yes in 1991, I think until 2004 I believe. Amazing keyboardist nevertheless!
It seems incredible to me that critics accused them of being cold, clinical and lacking in soul and the spirit of rock n roll when to my ears these last 50 years, they were drenched in it.
One of the things I miss most in the live versions of this is, since Bill departed the band the bass and percussion section at the beginning of the song became a bass solo (with the drummer “keeping time”). Chris and Bill shared the spotlight in this recording, both doing amazing things, rhythmically.
YES❗️HOTS was my favorite Yes song for years. Bill and Chris really shine throughout the song. Jon's vocals are so powerful and magical. Definitely became a favorite of fans in concert. FOREVER YES❗️❤🌅
Ah, Jeff! I thought I might find you here, my Yes brother! Bill and Chris were a dynamite rhythm section. It doesn't get any better. Chris and Alan made for a good rhythm section too. In a way Bill Bruford was TOO good! For what Yes were doing, they needed more of a solid Rock drummer. King Crimson was a perfect fit for Bill. He could branch out more with Fripp and the boys.
Hearing this song for the first time live during Big Generator tour sucked me into exploring the “older” yes music and I forever became a Yes fan thanks to Rabin’s guitar version that I heard live around ‘85-86 tour. It’s a genius song regardless of who plays it.

@L33Reacts I have got to agree with that assessment. Lol Magic, indeed! From Time in a Word in 67, there has always been a bit of magic in their work. I really have grown impressed with their latest effort over the past four months. When I first listened to it, I wasn't sure what I thought of it. The last tune, which is the albums name as well is another masterpiece, actual fusion is achieved.

Congrats on 3 years! 26 for me. Yes music always my spiritual rock, and ever positive. I can't tell you how many times Close to the Edge kept me from going over the edge....
Dude that's such an accomplishment man I'm so happy for you. I really hope I can make it that far. I did the hard work already...now it's time for the dirty work. But it'd worth it. yes has been such a godnsend right now... My life is literally insane. And they help me calm down and come back to earth by taking me away from it :) if that makes sense lol
I bathed in these sounds as a teenager. As the 70s went on Punk became the music that was being pumped. So that is how I turned to symphonic classical music.
The live version is good as well. It's just more brash and noisy than the studio version. And on Yessongs it's Alan and not Bill drumming, so it's more just straight rock drumming and less jazzy. But it's definitely not lounge music! 😁 Jon has talked about how this was inspired by early mornings in the cities they'd be travelling through while touring, when the sun would come up as they were making their way from the city to the country. But musically the main thing to takeaway from this song is DYNAMICS. Soft-hard, loud-quiet, fast-slow -- HotS is a masterclass in how to bring all of that together in one track. Btw, that main riff was inspired "21st Century Schizoid Man." That closing bit was a reprise of "We Have Heaven", which was Jon's feature on the album (they all have one.)
Marvellous music, 5 virtuoso performers at their peak knocking out amazing music for fun. I recall this one was one of the first collaborations with yes featuring himself (Rick Wakeman). I recall, He reckoned they knocked this one out pretty much their first afternoon in the studio and finessed it the next morning then, onto the next one. Amazing.
I was in high school when this album came out, and this song was my go-to when I was feeling frustrated and misunderstood, in a "close the door to my room, put the stereo on full blast and don't dare bother me" way. It still has the same impact on me, but now I use earbuds.
Congratulations on 3 years. Thanks for sharing. I found YES when I was 16 years old (1975). I had a lot of shit going on then... and, have had a lot of shit happen throughout my 65 years here on earth. YES has truly influenced my perspective on life. Their music is so positive, uplifting, spiritual, majestic, introspective...I often still tear-up, 49 years later, listening to some of their epic masterpieces. I hope that you can react to some of those 18-to-22 minute masterpieces...I think you'll tear-up too. Till your next YES reaction! Keep-up the good work!
Thank you. I truly appreciate it. I don't bring it up much but I'm not hiding it either. I'm not ashamed of my past. I'm an open book. yes is just like a cup of hot chocolate ona winter day :)
That's just the thing, man, we don't listen to Yes, we experience Yes. They were so good that one might have suspected them of having come to us from the land of Faerie.
I'm a Yes fan, so thanks for your great reactions. if you haven't listened to their "Endless Dream" masterpiece you have to. I JUST discovered it and It is incredible, especially the 2nd half.
Congrats on 3 yrs. I love your channel my friend. I seen yes 4 times back in the day and of course tbey were amazing. Maybe try some zapoa soon..hint hint.
Thank you so much bro! I really appreciate it...I'm glad you enjoy the videos. I appreciate yall so much for the support. You have no idea how much it means to me.
I call BS on live versus studio version. YESSONGS version is much better. Higher energy and great playing. Studio version is drab compared to it. Don’t understand why anyone would say the quality is not good. It’s excellent.
For me it's half and half. I prefer some songs' Yessongs version, like Siberian Khatru, but for this song studio takes it easily. The intricate rhythmic interplay between Chris and Bill is completely absent in he Yessongs HOTS
On HOS I will go with Fragile. For myself Alan did not have the style to play in the surgical manor of Bill. Take away Bruford and something is missing.
@@2visiondigital Bruford played it great. Just very mechanical. I love the energy of the live version more because of the energy and dynamics. Both version are great
Lee-- so very cool to hear of your recovery...Huge Kudos to you, bro! You seem to gravitate towards this very positive sounding material,so-all the more reason for you to dive into Neal Morse's music. He's the king of positivity, guy. Maybe try NMB's 'The Call' as an intro, but you can hardly go awry with his catalog. Cheers and congrats! T
In the instrumental refrain at the beginning and throughout the piece, Bill Bruford is mixing single and double strokes between his snare drum and his hi hat and ride cymbals. Amazing that he even thought to do that. Part of the reason the live version isn't as good is that on most versions, Alan White (RIP) is the drummer. White was a completely different drummer than Bruford, and he does some stuff that I really like, but I never liked the way he played this one (Bruford does play HOTS on the Union tour from 1991, and that live version IS very good). The end part is actually a reprise of an earlier piece on the record called We Have Heaven.
Sound Chaser next, definitely. It will blow your mind. Revealing Science of God is a trip -- you have to be in the mood for it. I think you are ready for it - but don't forget about "Ritual" (closing track from the same album).
This is a great car song. Max volume, rolling down the highway, preferably alone so no one can critique vigorous air drumming on the steering wheel or joyful belting along with Jon on that last “lost in the city.”
Other great rhythm sections include Squire and Bruford on Squire's solo album Fish Out of Water. Also Bruford and Wetton on several King Crimson albums as well as the 1st UK album. Squire and White (replaced Bruford in Yes) were also great - saw them 3 times.
Great choice, this is such an amazing track! I don't think you've explored the late 90s Yes yet, and it's incredible, some of their very best stuff imo. I'd heartily suggest the epic "That, That Is" from Keystudio. Another reactor who'd just heard it said, "Music is *supposed* to be this good. Music is *meant* to be this powerful, it's supposed to make you feel like this." You'll love exploring Yes further. The style changes, but that feeling of being bathed in light is always there. Cheers man!
Yeah I have not heard anything from the 90s by them only the 70s and 80s I think. I will definitely check some of them out. Thank you for the suggestions
One of their very best songs from one of their unforgettable albums! You should have heard them back in 1979 at Madison Square Garden then you would say arena rock is what they were meant to do! You are very right as far as with Jon and the band they lift your spirit and make you feel positive, one with the world! Awaken is great if you have not done that one and Brother of Mine from ABWH, which is essentially YES with the return of Bruford though without Chris Squire!
Great video, very moving track. I'd love to see your reaction to Yours Is No Disgrace and/or Perpetual Change from The Yes Album. In A Glasshouse by Gentle Giant if you have time also lol
We Have Heaven should always precede HOTS because as you heard, there is the We Have Heaven reprise at the end. Keep feeding your soul with the light and love of Yes music! As for next, you can’t lose with those two choices. For me, Tales from Topographic Oceans is part of my dna. If you’re ready for RSOG brother I am here for it!
If you are interested in more Bill Bruford insanity from his solo era, check these tracks: Beezlebub (live version from Rock Goes to College) Etude Revisited Fin De Siecle Cobalt Canyons
This is great band for you. Many people don't resonate with Jon's spiritual vibe. They think that it's too dreamy, too ethreal, too sensitve, too hokey, hippie, peace and lovey. Many people like to act and pretend like they're super strong and stoic and nothing ever bothers them. Therefore they don't need any soft, spiritual BS in their lives. Until the bottom drops out of their life and their hard outer shell gets totally crushed and their soft insides are exposed. Suddenly, Jon Anderson looks more like a very insightful poet, philospher, rather than just another silly hippie.
actually that little bit at the end is part of the song and there is another song on the album that has the complete version..... looked it up the song is called, "Cans and Brahms" ....I think the reference to the "March Hare" is from Alice and Wonderland...maybe. (Actually the thing they keep repeating is "Tell the Moon Dog, Tell the March Hare" but I don't know what that means....anyway that is what they are saying in the lyrics of Cans and Brahms so you don't have to search for it.
There ARE great live versions. Just the "YesSongs" version is not necessarily one of them and that was the option on your poll. Here are two to react to: 1) Oakland 1978 with Alan White on drums: ua-cam.com/video/spwpmgJaYUo/v-deo.htmlsi=LIDww4NgUegdwvvV 2) ABWH in Mountain View, CA with Jeff Berlin on bass in 1989. Here you get to see Bruford play it, though. ua-cam.com/video/AbCpI--0phk/v-deo.htmlsi=vTxkMpCIBhDsrGIn
Even though I prefer Bill Bruford over Alan White, I prefer the yessongs live version of "Heart of the Sunrise" over the studio version. You should check it out & compare the two.
That is NOT True about the Live version !!! Yessong is Fantastic it's just that some don't like Alan White on Drums, just Nuts !!! And that Yessongs version Alan White was in the band just about one month as Bill Bruford left to join King Crimson !! 👍🥁🎶

Btw, that main riff was inspired "21st Century Schizoid Man." That closing bit was a reprise of "We Have Heaven", which was Jon's feature on the album (they all have one.)
it's a shame the live version doesn't have bill on drums because in every other way but drums it's so much better than this version.
Congrats on recovery bro! keep on keepin' on!
Amazing.
one take Wakeman. Space Oddity was one take, and his mad organ solo on Roundabout also. Just to depress you, they were in their mid twenties here
I was in high school when this album came out, and this song was my go-to when I was feeling frustrated and misunderstood, in a "close the door to my room, put the stereo on full blast and don't dare bother me" way.
It still has the same impact on me, but now I use earbuds.
such a great live band
@@L33Reacts your very welcome.
Bill Bruford :) The only reason Fragile isn't Yes' greatest album is because "Close to the Edge" exists
How can the wind with it's arms all around me?
I call BS on live versus studio version. YESSONGS version is much better. Higher energy and great playing. Studio version is drab compared to it. Don’t understand why anyone would say the quality is not good. It’s excellent.
If Yes are on, were on, it didn’t matter, live or studio. At their best, locked in and loaded, they were the world’s finest band. Yes. I said it. Yes.
Both version are great
Yessongs is the Bible - all the best versions are on there!
OMG first time looking at your channel. OMG Elvis.
The song is fantastic live, but it’s great that you listened to the original with Bill Bruford first.
Bands like YES,and Pink Floyd are medicinal, therapeutic.
bruh this one is epic
Sound Chaser next, definitely. It will blow your mind. Revealing Science of God is a trip -- you have to be in the mood for it. I think you are ready for it - but don't forget about "Ritual" (closing track from the same album).
Had a feeling you’d get to this eventually. An epic song. It has been charted as 17/16 by some.
I finally got Here and it was totally worth the wait. 👍😊
that littel bit at the end is a joke on the fact that We Have Heaven (an earlier song) had started just before South Side of the Sky.
Squire and White (replaced Bruford in Yes) were also great - saw them 3 times.
masterpiece
Another great tune from Yes's "Going for the One" album is "Wondrous Stories."
Music is *meant* to be this powerful, it's supposed to make you feel like this."
You'll love exploring Yes further. The style changes, but that feeling of being bathed in light is always there. Cheers man!
Yeah I have not heard anything from the 90s by them only the 70s and 80s I think. I will definitely check some of them out. Thank you for the suggestions
The keyboard player of this song, rick wakeman, has a great song in his solo career, catherine parr.
Also, ELP hoedown is a super song
Both..."The Reveling Science of God" and "Sound Chaser" are excellent! Personally, I'd go with "The Reveling Science of God".
YES for last 45 years.
Def agree about studio vs live.
I love how good I feel after I listen to them! They are pure magic!
I absolutely love that song, Brother of mine!! ABWH
Great video, very moving track. I'd love to see your reaction to Yours Is No Disgrace and/or Perpetual Change from The Yes Album. In A Glasshouse by Gentle Giant if you have time also lol
Best prog track to go on record...
I'll vote for The Revealing Science of God. That's a real journey. (Different drummer. Alan White took over when Bill Bruford left.)
I will be saving it for the 5K subscriber special. It will be a special video :) I will be there within a week probably! So it's not too far away!
Yes. Awesome. Do Sound Chaser . Thanks for the videos.
WE HAVE HEAVEN"
Chris Squire (bass) played a Rickenbacher and also had a foot bass, lowered
and the first roger dean LP cover art
The first for Yes.
@@rogerhennie8939 that is what i meant
If you are interested in more Bill Bruford insanity from his solo era, check these tracks:
Beezlebub (live version from Rock Goes to College)
Etude Revisited
Fin De Siecle
Cobalt Canyons
I'll check it out. He is a goddam machine back there. I feel like I learn something from every song I listen to with him in it lol
And yes Bill was a master.
"The Revealing Science of God" from The Keys to Ascension album is a better version than the original in my opinion.
actually that little bit at the end is part of the song and there is another song on the album that has the complete version..... looked it up the song is called, "Cans and Brahms" ....I think the reference to the "March Hare" is from Alice and Wonderland...maybe. (Actually the thing they keep repeating is "Tell the Moon Dog, Tell the March Hare" but I don't know what that means....anyway that is what they are saying in the lyrics of Cans and Brahms so you don't have to search for it.
Yes..the greatest prog bsnd
Amen!
The revealing science of God!!!
Another vote for Sound Chaser 😁

There ARE great live versions. Just the "YesSongs" version is not necessarily one of them and that was the option on your poll.
Here are two to react to:
1) Oakland 1978 with Alan White on drums: ua-cam.com/video/spwpmgJaYUo/v-deo.htmlsi=LIDww4NgUegdwvvV
2) ABWH in Mountain View, CA with Jeff Berlin on bass in 1989. Here you get to see Bruford play it, though.

The only live version that exceeds the studio version of this song is the "Union Tour" performance!
With Yes, you should ALWAYS listen to the studio version of a song first.
Well I always listen to the criptoid 🐒 so studio it is! 😆
🔥🤯👀
Even though I prefer Bill Bruford over Alan White, I prefer the yessongs live version of "Heart of the Sunrise" over the studio version. You should check it out & compare the two.
And...We Have Heaven 😂
That is NOT True about the Live version !!!
Yessong is Fantastic it's just that some don't like Alan White on Drums, just Nuts !!!
And that Yessongs version Alan White was in the band just about one month as Bill Bruford left to join King Crimson !! 👍🥁🎶
Five classically trained musicians dosed on LSD and Psilocybin. What could go wrong?
