I don’t think The Bee Gees’ catalog gets the same recognition as The Beatles or Stones, but their contribution to music was just as significant. They were so much more than ‘Saturday Night Fever’.

IMO, this is one of the most finely crafted songs ever. Barry's delivery is a true piece of magic, and those harmonies! The soul is oozing! There have been so many covers since 1967 when the very young brothers first released it. There is also a great rendition done on The Midnight Special with Helen Reddy in 1975. The collaborations are another thing I loved about the show. A huge thank you on a Saturday morning.
The Midnight Special was one of it's kind, hosting the great talent of the day, with actual live performances. You couldn't hide behind auto-tune, pitch correction, canned instruments. Music as it should always be.

@Melke.2024 Barry and Linda had been married just under 3 years when this show was recorded. She made a point to travel with him when the brothers toured, and when they had children, they came along too. I think that played a large part in their successful marriage. ❤❤

INTERESTING: Watch Berry’s chin position as he sings certain power notes. He angles it downward to his chest in order to open the back of his throat to achieve a deeper tone that’s not in his natural voice but can be achieved with wider air space….. interesting! I’ve always found the technicalities of extreme professional singers to be fascinating. I can see it clearly in Celine Dion, Whitney Huston and many others, after their massive popularity. Before their biggest hits (when they’ve not worked with a vocal coach), you don’t notice it as much, but afterwards it’s very apparent.
Barry Gibb is as great an artist as Celine Dion and Whitney Houston.
Many artists are left in his shadow with his vocal range and songwriting talent.

For anyone who doesn't know, they wrote this song for Otis Redding but he died before he could record it -- so the Bee Gees decided to record it themselves. No doubt Redding would have done a great rendition, but I'm really glad the guys did it and released it. I love this song -- takes me back to junior high.

What is the most hilarious is my wife who is 31 years younger than me and doesn’t span just one generation, but two…. She tells me this music is outdated and nobody likes it because it is old. Can you believe that? Unreal. I tell her the present day music does not even come close. I am an avid music lover and my open mind can go back many decades and even centuries. When I listen to music that was played for King Henry 8th - I love it. When I listen to music from the 19th and 20th century, in the 1920s for example. It is beautiful harmonies to my ears. But I will have to state the music of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and even into the 90s Grunge, there just is not anything present day or for the last 25 years that comes close. It is garbage music. She asked me a couple weeks ago whe. We were having an argument regarding music if I k ew who is Taylor Swift, my reply was never heard of her. Then she put a second name to me Lady Gaga. I replied that I heard the name, but could not recite one song she sings. She played two songs for me. I tried to keep an open mind. I tried to NOT break out laughing because she tell me their music is way better than anything from the 1950s to the end of the 1990s.
