Forgive me for taking so much time with comments, but I'm compelled to ask the many other viewers to keep all tow and recovery people in thoughts and prayers for their safety .... Not only at Midwest, but around the world. It IS indeed a hazardous, but extremely necessary occupation. So again, God's Blessings to each of you.

I keep hoping the day will come when truck and rv manufacturers will consult tow operators about how to build them so they can be towed !!
Sure, just as soon as they consult the mechanics on how to make 'em more serviceable.

And car manufacturers. There is no place to hook a strap or winch to get them out of snow anymore. The eye hooks you screw into the bumpers arent very strong and the driver usually has no idea what you are talking about let alone know where theirs is. I dont even stop for newer cars stuck in snow anymore as long as they are in a safe spot and look to be ok. I'm too old to be pushing cars out anymore. Taking all the fun out of driving my off roader around on snow days.

I see that you had a different type of Talon help. Lol. Cool to see 2 companies work together to get a job done in a fast and safe manner. You proved that if you are going to have a fleet, you have to have something for everything.
Taking that Driveline out for Ron was a real help undoubtedly.
I loved the other tow driver and the RV owner helping you out. They both seems like a cool guys.
its called professional courtesy. Most workers will do the same.
Though some people never seem to know when it's time to lose the flip flops... ;p

K05 T4R the forks? 30 pounds each. The wheel lift bars, I can’t judge weight very well, I’d say about 60-80 pounds.
You might be business competitors but you still have to work together and help each other out, cover your six as you say. This video is a perfect example of that, the first company knew they didn't have the proper equipment to do the job right so they called you, who they knew had the right equipment. He parked behind you with his lights on to provide cover and warn drivers to help keep everyone safe.
There are also times where multiple companies may have to work together on a job because it is to big or requires more equipment than any one company has available.

Ron the pro as ever, polite to customers, working with the competition instead of against making it a brotherhood, what more could you ask for.
It nice to see other drivers block for each other. And he even helped out a lot with already removing the drive shaft and even helping out. Great video showing Team Work be safe and have a nice and safe weekend
my wife and i have been watching heavy rescue:401 on TWC -- it is amazing. you watch this channel to learn the RIGHT way to tow, and you watch that show to learn the WRONG way! last nights show, a truck full of sheets of sheet metal hit the brakes in toronto and sent the payload through the front wall of the box into the cab. so the tow operator set up his rotator on the other side of the concrete center divider and loaded from that truck to another flatbed on the other side of the road. i saw multiple mistakes that Ron would never make: 1- he lifted a large load way up into the sky with no guide lines, so it caught in the wind and spun like a top-- and it was hung on a snatch block, so the two lines were all twisted up. 2- he lifted some loose sheets with two chains spread out some distance apart, and the moment it got in the air, the chains slid together because he didn't use a spreader bar. the best was the overturned truck in the ditch that they decided the best way to unload it was to cut the top off and turn it upside down using two rotators, one on each end *cringe*, dumping the load in a sloppy pile onto the highway 5 feet from a 80kph live traffic lane! thank you Ron, for being an example of how to do it right!

Gotta love those RVers, always walking around with a cup of coffee, no matter what the circumstances. BTW, didn't hear the three blasts of the horn prior to backing up. Not sure why I find these videos so fascinating to watch and neither does my wife but keep 'em coming.

Well, just like Ron has all the rigging tools, “RVers” have all the tools to make themselves comfortable wherever they are. Why not take the opportunity while eating for help to arrive. Once upon a time my mother cooked dinner while waiting for an accident to be cleared up…

The amount of equipment Ron and his crew are constantly using requires a high level of expertise and intelligence. I remember one of the first videos of his that I watched he talked about the use of mathematics as part of his everyday decision making process. I am always impressed with their abilities to use these giant pieces of muscle to get their recovery jobs done.
That's what I like to see people coming together to help each other even if one tow company lost money on a toe but he stays to help another tow company safety is number one like you said in the video towards the end he doesn't want anybody get hurt I do the same exact thing if I was at the operator thank you for your service out there stay safe and God bless

Wow! Almost 12k views in just 8hrs! Shows how much your subs appreciate you Ron. There used to be a brotherhood like that in the trucking industry, not so much these days, unfortunately. Personally, I LOVE the sounds of a working shop. It's music to my ears and reminds me of home when I'm on the road.

Have a funny for you Ron Many years ago now when i was driving heavy we towed for the local transite company Late Sat. nite got called to a breakdown of city bus normally first thing we did was crawl under and hook air line to keep suspension inflated I no sooner had the air line hooked up and the bags deflated trapping me under the bus Took 3 hours before a local copper noticed I had been there quite a while and stopped to find out why Needless to say I was more than happy to hear his voice and tell him how to turn the air supply on to the bus Just your daily chuckle

Finally, the Large Star in action by it's self.
The manufacturer of any vehicle with an air system for brakes or suspension should put connections at the front of the vehicle.
Would be nice wouldn't it. but that be to simple.. My Truck has a quick connect on the air tank for towing. So they don't have to do disconnect my air line. it is also equipped with a shut off valve it is a little further back then most like but they like the quick hook ups and yes i to tend to have engine issues and transmission its par for the course..
My coach has 2 one above the gen up front with a yellow valve handle for emergency air and the other is the hose I use to inflate the tires. Back feed either to charge the air system
@@AZdirtdog Almost all of the European trucks and buses got connections at the front or a "quick connect" on the air tanks. I've been a tow operator for about 3 years now, and I'm still learning new stuff every day and also learning some stuff from Ron's videos now and then.

He operates out of Scott City which is in the southeastern part of the state. You'd be hard pressed to get him to come to you if you were broke down in say, St. Joseph lol.
I have logged man hours on an air tools. I wish I had started wear hearing protection in the early days! I try to remember these days but approaching 60, the upper range hearing is gone!

Mr Pratt this was one of the first times I was really worried about your safety along the highway. Usually you have police and fire blocking the road. I saw you put out a marker light but I didn't see the other tow truck until the very end. Glad that you are safe and thank you to the unnamed tow truck driver who blocked your work area with his truck.

A friend of mine from the Isle of Jersey, UK, payed me a great compliment. After watching this video she said you're just like him! She previously watched me install a pot, pan, & lid rack in her kitchen, she wondered why I was so methodical. My reply was that I didn't have time to do it correctly the third time. Regardless of the paint job Ron,that is one nice looking Western Star.You'll get it painted and it will match all of your other trucks.You just have to find the time is all but it'll get done,of that I'm sure 😊

This was a very educational video for me, since my Husband David has had a dream of owning an RV. Those look very complicated to work on, However I believe that I would have had someone check my tires before I left home on vacation. ( I know that he probably ran over something.) Wonderful video. Good job. No rain/snow and no "arc nemesis" but was surprised the RV did not have the 4-ways on. Maybe they no longer worked after the tires went.
I never realized those things were so tricky to tow. Nice work. Don't apologize for the air hammer. That's the sound of commerce and business. It's not a movie set...it's a truck business and it needs to run to keep the doors open. Keep up the good work, Ron!
As you may know, we in Illinois had another State Police Office killed yesterday. She was inspecting a truck parked alongside the road when another semi hit both her squad and the truck that was parked. This was despite Illinois' new "move-over law." This video today emphasized the need to "move over," and, STAY OFF THE DANG CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING!!! Working along the road, (and as a former diesel mechanic, I did my fair share of it,) is extremely dangerous. People who have never done it don't realize the force of a vehicle passing by closely! Glad you and all involved were safe, Ron, and another great video!!!

Rv's seem to be a real pain in the butt to lift since they are so low. Must be difficult on the roadside in the dark alone. You guys do a fenomenal job. Thank you for your great vids, stay safe and God bless!

Hi Ron when you become a tow truck driver so many years ago you become a part of a family with lots of brothers and sisters.
"Chalking" is what kids do on the sidewalk.
Chocks are placed in front of and behind tires to prevent rolling.
Blocks are placed under tires to assist with hooking and dropping.
You're a good man, Ron. I just wanted to make sure your viewers understood the terminology correctly.
And if I could work with you, I would. I went to high school in both Dixon and Salem and my Adopted mom lives in Rolla.

Thank you for give the month and year of the tow. It puts the video into prospective. The owner of the RV was in a bad position between the RV and the Vulcan. We just lost an IL State Police Officer. She had a semi pulled over to inspect and was between the semi and the squad car when another semi veered off the road and hit her car and killed her instantly. So sad. Glad to see the other Tow Truck driver helping and learning how you do your job. Teamwork!

One of my best friends throughout high school's family owned a large charter bus operation, mostly MCI MC7's, MC8's, and later MC9's and three Golden Eagles. The MCI's were "straight forward", fairly easily towed; the Eagles, however, always seemed to throw the drive gear on the compressors, and had a "Torsilastic Suspension", which made the vehicles miserable to tow. Most of those times, the tow truck wouldn't even attempt to tow them if the distance was less than ten miles, they'd just 'fill it with air, head back towards the shop, and stop for a refill when she hit 60 psi'. That was my "every third weekend part time job", which didn't pay squat, but the times I had at "Reeder's", remain among my favorites, and have propelled me into 'old age' - with great smiling memories.

Hey Ron I've been watching a show for a while and I really love it and but I got a question for you to see if you have an answer you're doing the RV left with Western Star and it was kind of short can you use the Jacks the leveling jacks of the RV to give you extra clearance if that's the case am I right or am I wrong I'd love to hear from you
@@mannysantos381 Normally, I could have used the jacks to raise the coach for extra clearance, however, on this coach, the power supply and control systems were destroyed when the incident occurred. This rendered the jacks inoperable. Thanks for watching and God bless.

That's a very unique feature of the Western Star, being able to tow lowrider RVs. I would like to see you keep the burgundy/maroon color and add the yellow when you switch to the current scheme, thereby recognizing its uniqueness. Thanks for the video.

Superb job. I was a broadcast engineer for forty years. Then I got blown up in Afghanistan, and lost my legs, etc. However I have filmed everything, excellent job..... CLIff

Being a native Arizonan, I never fully understood the whole "it's a dry heat" thing until one July in St. Louis. You can HAVE it, I'd never been so miserable!!
Nebraska has dry heat. Their 112 degrees equals VA's 90 degrees, because "dry" means no humidity in NE, and full "wet" humidity in VA, the Southeast. I like
the dry air. Yes, you are hot either way, though you can breathe, see clearly, stay dry in 112 degrees. We call it hot muggy days.
