      @@sambumaI am almost at a point where I am thinking that they should buff trading, in the end people get the enchantments and equipment they want, no matter what.
      At some point it just takes nothing but time to grind the villager trades.
      And that really just isn’t fun imo, also breaking the lectern half a thousand times just to get mending, been there, down that and it is so so annoying tbh.
      Villager rebalancing definitely needs to happen in some way, shape or form.

    • @sambuma
      @sambuma 25 днів тому +13

      @@sempervelox I'm not fully opposed to the trade rebalancing experiment for this very reason. It would be far more interesting gameplay to find/breed Librarians in different biomes then level them up to get guaranteed book trades rather than spending hours on the mundane task of breaking and placing lecterns. It's grindy in a way that isn't interesting or fun, unlike other grindy tasks in the game. I'm sure there are other solutions as well that could/should be explored, though. For example, I think a mechanic where you can "teach" a Librarian a book trade by providing an existing enchanted book would be interesting as well and would require obtaining enchanted books via other means, but this would also be much more difficult to implement with the current trade mechanics.

    Regarding the ore snatcher, maybe prepare an enormous horde of zombies, with no helmets? Prevent entity cramming, give them weaving effect, release them onto the snatcher's base just before the day starts so they can spread and... boom! A minute later they start taking fire dmg from the sun and in a few moments the whole base is covered in webs.
    Could even make a contraption for that! Maybe a ton of silverfish, with weaving, blasted with wind charges above someone's base, as to fall to their doom and spawn the webs!

    It's good to hear that the technical community are trying to engage with mojang over changes. Mojang have good and noble reasons for the changes they are proposing, but they are by definition somewhat blinkered in their views. Technical community truely are hackers, and hackers are experts at finding the "yes, and" answer that mojang overlooked to both get the great benefits mojang are after, and make an even better technical minecraft future!

    • @julton6610
      @julton6610 26 днів тому +13

      Well said! There’s a lot of redstone behaviors that are difficult to understand, so making it easier for less technical folks is great but have to do it carefully and with consideration for the amazing technical community. Doc don’t lose energy engaging with Mojang on this topic!

    • @GSBarlev
      @GSBarlev 26 днів тому +12

      Remember that the Mojang development team includes gnembon (whose farms and item sorters are *still* standard); slicedlime (who does massive redstone projects on his own fan server); and a bunch more legends of modding. To this day, Mojang's studio culture is still very much one of people who _actively_ play the game and are members of the community.
      Also give them credit for the fact that they dropped *three* experimental festures, and two of them (bundles and minecarts) are being phenomenally well-received-taking the latter, for example, collecting mobs like Doc was struggling with in this ep is going to be *much* easier going forward.

    • @sambuma
      @sambuma 25 днів тому +6

      This is a good point, but I do feel there's something a bit sidehanded about featuring one arguably positive change (deterministic piston update order) then putting a bunch of Bedrock-parity, Java-breaking changes in the small print like minecarts not stacking in the same blockspace. Meanwhile Bedrock would be improved with both more deterministic redstone as well as some of the Java exclusives like the minecart stacking.
      If there were two redstone-related changes that would bring parity with Bedrock that would probably be well received, it would be soft inversion and the ability to waterlog pistons. Most other parity should be changing Bedrock to be more like Java imo. Bedrock JUST got 100% TNT drop rates for example and it's been very well received even with no TNT duping possible to fully take advantage of it the way Java players can.

    I mean to be fair the experimental redstone and minecart stuff is just that, experimental. they're looking for feedback, nothing is set in stone. as someone who doesn't do a lot of redstone (and 3/4 of what i do isn't reliant on weird redstone stuff except occasionally quasi-connectivity though i do redstone more on bedrock than java so that's not a thing for me too often) and doesn't like doing stuff in the End, neither experiment seems bad to me, but i do recognize that, as the experiments currently are, they'll break pretty much every contraption made so far. hopefully with community feedback, a compromise will be able to be made.

    I appreciated seeing the absolute chaos of mob wrangling in this video because that's how it always goes for me as well. Admittedly with less annoying mobs than these but it's reassuring to see a pro struggle with things I also struggle with. Thanks for keeping it real as always Doc and not cutting the footage to make it look seamless!

    This reminds me of how in 2010 Scientists at the University of Wyoming actually bred a type of Goat that produced Spider Silk in it's milk. They are "very cannibalistic" though which is pretty horrifying.

    I'm really happy about the redstone changes actually. I get that it's not fun if you've invested a lot of time to learn how things are, but the new systems seem much easier to understand and explain. It's healthy for the game to resolve eg orientation issues even if some contraptions are affected.

    Regarding the redstone changes. I like what they're trying to do, I acknowledge a lot of stuff might break, and that will suck for a lot of people, but I think optimizing redstone lag is very needed, making minecarts more reliable and useable is great, and removing locationality with redstone is also great.
    Is the current state perfect: No. Should it be implemented as-is: Also No. But I hope that the tech community can work with the developers to make future redstone development better.

    on the subject of the redstone update,
    I think that, if you're at the point where you're thinking about the update order (which is a thing they changed in the snapshot redstone experimental stuffs), then bud power/quasi connectivity and other weird rules (such as the orientation update order) should probably also be understandable, though I do agree that the update order would be better if it was based off of some more logical thing, such as the redstone power, as opposed to just "welp, this block updates earlier in the world), and I do think that, in most redstone builds, you could get around that using leafstone and such techniques if really needed.
    I am not deeply into the hardcore redstone stuff, though I do love the concepts and feel like I understand a decent amount for someone not involved (probably partially helped by my love for redstone in the 2016s, my following of some redstoners and the fact that I have a bachelorate in computer science (and working on my masters ^^)). But yeah, idk if there are any more pressing issues with their update of which I am just not aware yet (if so, I'd love to hear about it :-D), but from what I saw it mostly seemed like some pretty nice changes, ignoring the fact that it might break a lot of existing conraptions relying on these underlying principles.
    However, if these contraptions can still be made, but just need to be redesigned then I think it should be fine (enough), if the contraptions are made impossible to make by these changes..... well, then its a different story altogether ofcourse :/

    I'm finally watching this 5 days later than I usually do (life happens you know), but I gotta say, I really appreciate your ethos toward organic content and community. I first started watching you in S9 when the others were first flirting with danger in the Perimeter and your video was suggested and I was like "alright lets see what he's about!" And immediately I was sold - technical engineering and appreciation of systems within a game (check!), lover of black/death/thrash metal (CHECK!!), and appreciator of community and artists that integrates involvement in your videos (RIP my mouse levels of CHECK!!!). Not to mention I didn't realize you inspired your name from one of the most notorious proliferators of disgusting dunks in the history of basketball until a couple months later.... I've been a fan ever since. Thanks for keeping it real!
