If your layer is still black when working with multiple layers, I "soloed" the layer that I am filling since the layers underneath kept filling in the gap apparently and it worked!
Yeah, it works this way: you have the layer without the object at the bottom, then you have an original layer above it, you add a linear wipe effect to the layer above and keyframe it's transition completion
What can i do if i don't see the mask in the fill target window. Mine is just transparent (the black from the mask is missing) and google brings no solution. Maybe I should add, that my Clip is 4:30 min long and i use the mask on different timestamps for like 10 seconds or so. Even if i cut it to the lenght that i need it at, it does not work. I did cut out the clips, so i have 6 layers with like 10-20 seconds and make the workarea appropriate to the clips, but still just a transparent window on the right side without the Black. (Hope you understand i am from germany and sometimes, there are a few words missing or i choose the wrong word 😅)
It might be because the time indicator is not on the clip that has the mask on it, that's why it's not visible in the content aware fill window. Other than that though I can't think of why it would not show if all the steps were followed as shown in the video🤔
@SmertimbaGraphics wow thanks for the fast reply. I will try if that is the fault. Do you have a discord by and chance? If it doesn't work maybe i can sent you a picture or so.

I'm working on a beach scene to remove a person by the water. I tracked the mask manually. When i generate fill layer the outcome wasn't what expected. The wave lines of the water are off where the person was standing and is very noticeable. Is there a fix for this, did I do something wrong, or is it impossible because of the moving water?
If you have the effect "Rolling Shutter Repair" on the target clip, this all won't work. Delete the effect and the mask will appear in the tiny "content awuwu fill" window.

For those who's fill layer is still black, you need to make sure to switch back from your layer if you're in one to your composition.

That's one object. You said objects. Can't out how to do more than one.
You can just repeat the steps for a different object in the same video, it will create another generative fill layer to fill the gap
