Tyler Durden started with noble intentions like i talk about in the video but he becomes increasingly radical to the point where he brutally beats members for no reason, strips them of their individuality to make them project mayhem drones. He also blows up those buildings at the end having no concern about collateral damage or the repercussions

There’s nothing wrong with the matrix, American psycho, joker etc. they’re all good movies, the problem is just like with religion, these people like to find hidden meanings behind the movies/characters that reaffirm there already warped belief systems. The movies on their own are perfectly fine, I personally like them. It’s when you look up to someone like Patrick batemen or the joker as a hero, or a beacon for your beliefs that it becomes a problem.

I love how so many people remember Tyler Durden's criticisms of consumerism but miss the fairly significant part where he indoctrinates an army of men into becoming the disposable foot soldiers of his cult. He's not meant to be the hero.

Durden's criticism go beyond mere consumerism and capitalism, they go after civilization itself, and indeed there are numerous tenets of "anarcho-primitivism" to be found in Fight Club.
That being said, whatever "bad behavior" Durden may engage it, that behavior does absolutely nothing to cheapen the criticisms he levies against the status quo....to discount his previous criticisms would be nothing more than an ad hominem fallacy

I think it's important to examine where the emotions come from without endorsing the action, for example when the Joker says people would walk over his dead body on the street, he is expressing a justified anger, but it's also obvious that he's mentally unstable as a result of this negative society and that being mentally ill and shooting people up is not a good thing (duh). Like when I say US intervention in the Middle East caused 911, I'm not saying 911 was good, I'm pointing out how one bad thing caused another bad thing and we should stop doing the first bad thing if we want the bad reaction to stop, that's what these movies are doing also and they're all great pieces of cinema... people just lack critical thinking these days.

The thing is, a lot of them don't see them as flaws. They genuinely think that their qualities are good, which really says a lot about how self centered and unempathetic these "sigma male" peeps really are. Either that, or it's what you said. A lot of people just watch a few clips out of context and think they understand the film and the character. I'm sure many of them saw a few clips of Patrick Bateman or Tyler Durden out of context in scenes where they look badass or cool and think, "Wow, I wanna be like that. I wanna be muscular, charismatic, confident, etc." Because they haven't seen the full character. However, those who have seen the entire movie and understand the characters and STILL see them as aspirational and likable are the ones who concern me.

Wolf of Wall Street suffers from the same problem as Scarface- ostensibly it's a cautionary morality tale, but it's also so packed full of awesomeness that it kind of becomes hard to see the message after a while. Don't get me wrong I think both films are great and wouldn't be the same if they were made as more traditional cautionary tales (a la The Godfather), but the way the lifestyles of the main characters are presented is definitely more appealing (especially to young men) than not a lot of the time. Scorsese's moral messages are normally abundantly clear, but I definitely got the impression he didn't quite know what he was trying to say with Wolf of Wall Street.
With this in mind, personally people doing the "literally me" sigma thing for Wolf of Wall Street (or Scarface) annoys me a lot less than when they do it for movies/shows like Breaking Bad or American Psycho, which present characters that are so obviously and clearly contemptible in every single way that only a real moron could see them as role models. Fight Club is another one I'll kind of forgive, because while Tyler Durden is clearly ultimately the villain and the movie is in part a satire of how extremism on either side leads to mental enslavement, another part of it is meant to be inspirational and thought-provoking for disenfranchised young men (that's what makes the movie so interesting, it doesn't have a single, uncomplicated message that picks one side). Although the irony of people worshipping both Tyler Durden and Patrick Bateman (who could not be more opposite in every way imaginable and would absolutely detest each other if they met) is pretty fucking hilarious lol.

this is why i stopped associating myself with sigma male, alpha male or red pilled community. i used to believe it was just about self improvement, but now its all about being a sociopath manipulator, a psychopath and a toxic person, its why i stopped listening to these red pilled influencers almost every one of them is doing to get fame or riches. i agree on your take of self improvement, self improvement is about improving your life, be healthy, eat healthy, removing bad habits, etc. but the red pilled community think its about revenge, to please someone, or to just basically a douche bag. i also agree with blade runner being one of the best and real sigma male movie, i can relate to the whole ai gf and that shabang, i used to believe that an anime character would love me even though she isnt real and even if she was i doubt she would love someone who she doesnt even know and goes crazy for her. i honestly believe that real masculinity is about being a good person who doesnt lash out over simple thing, being a good influence to younger generations, being a gantleman basically and being a man of God. its honestly sad that many men think that being toxic is kool and bad4ss and being a good person is being a pus5y. alas i hope there will be someone who will show what real masculinity is.

@@OzymandiasV2Why get Into fitness if you are not supposed to be shallow?
Being healthy makes sense as far as it increases your life expectancy + saves one from a lot of trouble concerning only yourself and your body, impacting your quality of life, like obesity, back problems and head aches. But being fit? If you arent enjoying company or the feeling of doing a sport, there is no reason in doing it, as the benefits can be reduced to a short rush of dopamin once you reach a certain goal/ the satisfaction of your arrogance because you look Good. So No point in getting into fitness for the Sake of fitness.
Why get into finance if you aren't supposed to be materialistic?
What purpose does being rich serve once you earn above a certain limit that garantues a stable and proper life for yourself and your Family? And while that may be much to ask from the average person, it already applies to the average finance skilled man. Since it is a misbelieve a poor person can escape his misery by something Else then sheer luck regarding financial wisdom (meaning hard work/studying are the real boxes you have to check, not finances), it is only logical that merely these, who already posses a lot can make a relatively steady and secure investment and expect a return. This misbelieve Was set into the world by No other than the last mentioned group of people, powerful politican groups: "Come on poor guy, if you would just get into finances, you can become rich too!" To justify the comfortoable position they inherited/gained by luck without the hard work. Truth is, while a construction worker or inventor or peasant or teacher all benefit the world with their work and create a value through it, The value behind money cant be generated by buying stock. You are not Helping society, if you make Profit you Took it away from someone. Greedy and selfish, All in all nothing to strive for.
Lastly, why get into being aware of whats going on if you dont strive to reach a position of actual power?
People just love to see the talkshows, news, wars, This politican's new idea, this influencer's insta, everyone fighting for an own cause. But the in reality, this Illusion of political wisdom you Gain is nothing but a brainless time killer. All the time I spent Under political videos commenting, achieving nothing but a Bad mood.
      1. Do you Want to be educated with whats going on too form yourself an opinion?
But a opinion has to backed up with actions or it becomes irrelevant at best, harmful (repressed emotions) at worst. But the only action the commen people have Access to is a vote every few Years! And now your vote counts just as little as the most uneducated one's. But Mainly the options are so limited that your background prolly didnt make a difference: ever heard of a democrat who one day did Massive research and came back a republican? No. So for him voting Blue, The political education Played No role.
      2. Do you Want to be educated with whats going on to convince others, giving your vote more power?
That doesnt work. Its pointless and toxic trying to convince people in a subject that doesnt particulary connect you two (telling your kids why 8h TV is Bad? Valid. Convincing your uncle that indians for native americans is offensive? Pointless, senseless, useless).
All this time was me being informed ever of help? Did it help me to know there was school shooting on the other side of the world? That the poles are melting? That ugandas president is a racist? No.
Focus on yourself, dont cut out the people who Mean much to you because of certain ideals, stay in developement, dont try to achieve perfection.
      And watch fightclub again.

But in actuality it’s a movie about the mental torture that can be forced on somebody who is ultimately alone in society, they may be surrounded by people, but they lack community.
Fight club is not necessary a satire, everything in it is to be seen at face value but that does not mean every message is good. Fight Club is about a lonely man who seeks out community in a world that seems to have forgotten him.

I think there are many people who recognize the flaws in these characters, but they sometimes intentionally ignore them because they are both too young and naive, and because these characters represent an attractive and romanticized side of loneliness and deppression (literally, all of them are inherently good-looking, just made to appear more grizzled, which ironically makes them a lot more relatable). Maybe it's just me projecting, but it seems like people today for one reason or another are more lonely, and these movies show how you can cope with that. They do something that makes them feel good, not realizing or even intentionally ignoring the harmful long-term effects. It's like an addiction, much like loneliness or acting out can become a cope and even an addicton in real life. Simply realizing that Joe or The Narrator have extreme character development and recognize their flaws is not enough to change your own, it's also about the experience of life and pushing through, which (hopefully) one day will lead the viewer to themselves grow and ultimately leave behind flawed idols. Breaking a habit can be extremely difficult.

this is part of the problem that a lot of satire has in popular media: they can't help by romanticize the negativity. like the fact that almost all examples of fascism shows fascists as strong, powerful, hyper efficient machines, instead of what they REALLY are which is emotionally constipated, sexually frustrated, mommy issue having, lonely, weirdo losers who's own ideology defeats itself(to explain this would be to explain anti-fascism 101, but the gist is that 'fascism is a death cult'). writers can't help but portray these ideas as the negative that they are. the lonely loser protag has to be a hot guy, and the evil bad guy has to be a badass. if they took a second and thought about how the narrative is portraying these characters and events, they'd maybe be able to avoid these pitfalls.

Toxic masculinity is only a problem when men are neglected. When the people who build society are viewed as disposable and aren’t respected, you get people who cling to identities like Bateman because they share the same struggle. The problem isn’t manliness. Men have always been manly. In fact, the problem is that men aren’t manly enough. Feminism has destroyed the family and therefore destroyed men. The sole purpose of a man is to creat, protect, and provide for a family. When you destroy that, and take God out of the equation, you get men who feel as though they have no purpose.

The analysis on Fight Club is decent but the part of "detaching from reality through aggression due to societal suppression of vulnerability" is partly true. While there is suppression of vulnerability, which is in part due to vulnerability becoming a means where you will be targeted and outcasted by your surrounding communities, it also in many ways removes one's care for their fellow man. The only times men should be vulnerable should be among their brothers, because that vulnerability is protected by the group, which historically has been the cause for brotherhood and will probably never change. Plus given aggression by testosterone, there is nothing wrong with expression of it in healthy ways. It's the opposition to it that is unhealthy.

The earliest example of the "sigma male" I can remember is Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye. The book acts as a way to point out the flaws of civilization from the perspective of a lonely young man. Holden fits the "sigma male" mindset perfectly. A commenter below said it perfectly, Holden represents a character whom we can recognize the flaws in, but people sometimes intentionally ignore them. I had a friend who identified extensively with Holden, basing his whole self around the character. We were young and naive, but even I knew at the time that Holden was not a character to strive to be like. Again, like a commenter below said, Holden is a character that represents an attractive and romanticized side of loneliness and depression. I believe Holden Caulfield is the original "sigma male". His behavior and thoughts match the sigma male mindset

Have you ever heard of Erich Fromm's 'The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness?' - One can glean that, in the case of men like these, their impulse for destructiveness stems from their desire to transcend the human condition and feel contentment/happy. Of course, transcendence can be achieved through creation as well, but destructiveness is the easy way out, usually reserved for when one feels they are alienated, powerless, and ultimately have failed to create anything, whether that is because of an inability to do so, or having been denied the opportunity to do so. This is why Agent K actually does achieve transcendence by the end of Bladerunner 2049 :)

I think film is art and art is subjective. If you looked at a painting and had a particular interpretation of it, you are right, even if it is different from the way the artist intended for it to be interpreted. The same thing applies to cinema. If one person watches the matrix and views it as a message on escaping the system and waking up to reality, but someone else views it as a message on gender identity, they are both right. There is no “one right way” to view art, there is only your own personal perspective.

Late last year I viewed American Psycho for the first time. After it was over I felt it had been oversold to me. Before I saw the motion picture, I frequently saw edits, memes and high praise for the movie.
I felt disturbed that this many men felt exactly like Mr. Bateman. I understand his struggles, I don’t feel bad for him. Like you stated, he murders people that have little to no impact on his daily life of greed. His brutality is what made him extremely hard to like and that is what the film likely argues against.
The film is not critical enough of his actions from what I recall. I don’t take pity on him as he has ample resources to fix his life. However it’s not his character. He is not a character of change but one who drives himself deeper into conflict. That’s what I got at least.
A marvelous video- the narration and editing was perfectly splendid.

thank you for the compliment and i agree. first time i watched it i was like “is that it?”. However, i think the fact that Bateman is in his own personal hell is the movies way of “criticizing” him. Patrick Bateman is constantly subtly belittled, has no identity (people mistake him for others all the time), and even in his delusions he is eventually caught and finally becomes a sobbing mess. In his confession at the end of the movie, he even says that it means nothing and he will never have release. Honestly i wouldnt be surprised if there was some hidden layer of the movie being that Willem Dafoe is the devil and the entire film is in Hell

@@OzymandiasV2 You are welcome and thank you. A wonderful reply you have sent me. I think the movie is subtle in its meanings but plenty of people pronounce this a masterpiece. The word masterpiece is overused and doesn’t describe the level of quality of this film. It’s just okay to me, there’s deep meanings but overhyped by people online.
Now in the same “sigma movie universe” the film Falling Down (1993) is certainly my favorite film out there. It is more critical (although arguably not enough) of a man’s violent actions towards society. I think it could be a real god watch for you and possibly a good channel video. If it’s not for you then that’s alright, no film is meant for everyone’s enjoyment.

    • @LicoriceLain

Bateman is driven by a desire for recognition. As much as he says he wants to fit in, he actually wants to be caught, to be found out, to be recognized in public as this homicidal psycho. His most brutal crimes are those inflicted on people who don't recognize him or confuse him for someone else, whereas those who do interact with him on a personal level are left unharmed. The end of the film is the world around him telling him that he doesn't get to have this. He is trapped in this state of anonymity with a bunch of identical drones who will ignore his every indiscretion, the exact thing he fears. He is the villain and you aren't meant to pity him, but there is something to be said to being able to relate to his fear of fading into the background of his own life., of being a non-entity who does horrible shit and just dies.

    • @Adam1Gee
      @Adam1Gee Рік тому

@@LicoriceLain Well said. I watched many videos analyzing the movie after and I was still unimpressed with the film and his character. His brutality was used on a homeless guy and several prostitutes. Neither of them really had an impact on his life, he was just slaughtering for the sake of using people as punching bags. The fact he goes after what many would consider as low lifes doesn’t make his killing any better. They are still innocent people and I know it’s apart to make him disturbing. I just don’t like it and didn’t find it funny as many did.
I understand that he wants to fit in, has no real identity and is a symbol for what many men want to be in terms of success. The movie was just mediocre. If it wasn’t put on a ultra high pedestal I would have enjoyed it more as it would not have been oversold to me. I still recognize why people enjoy it, it’s just not a movie for me.

i find the reason he doesn’t kill him is more about disgust than a fear of being accepted: the man makes an advance on him because he views the choking as sexual, bateman is so disgusted by it that he can’t stand to be in there anymore or continue with the choking, perhaps speaking to his homophobic pettiness.

    • @OzymandiasV2
      @OzymandiasV2  Рік тому +2

thats a fair analysis. the main reason why i went with fear of intimacy/true interest is because nothing in the film to that point really indicated that Bateman hated gay people (in the book he is violently though). @@OzymandiasV2 A trans character would undo the entire allegory because how can there be an allegorical and literal transition from meatspace to cyberspace? Plus, the way residual self-image works the trans character would be forced to undo the transition every time they went to the Matrix. Sounds pretty callous.
People have lived as the opposite gender prior to modern medicine. The red pill is also a clear reference to Total Recall.
The Matrix is not about breaking free from comformity. In fact the movie explicitly states that the utopia Matrix just failed because human nature rejected a simulation that was too perfect. And at the end of the trilogy humans are given a choice to be free or remain in the simulation as a compromise. At it's core the Matrix is more about reality and how you can perceive reality that's totally simulated, and free choice. The entire thing is centered around computer simulation and deterministic processes creating a predictable event that the Oracle can see. However, Neo himself states that he is fulfilling the prophecy because he CHOSE to. While a Smith unchained from the restrictions placed upon him as an Agent will seek power for power's sake because he is a program obeying his code, Neo shows his human nature through free will and self-sacrifice. This culminates in the machines injecting into Neo the code that kills Smith in a way that makes his body glow into the shape of a cross, employing overt religious symbology to reference self-sacrifice to save humanity. I mean the red pill part is pretty inexcusable as it's such a blatant reference to another sci-fi movie but where is the conformity here? Hell, the trilogy even states that as long as free choice is involved, it's okay to embrace conformity inside the Matrix.
Creators can retcon their opinions. Just Kidding Rowling did it. We'd need some kind of written or recorded statement before or during filming, saying it a decade plus after the fact creates a situation that's impossible to verify. "Just trust me, bro". No I don't think I will.

The world saw a group of men who obviously relate not to the “evil” parts of characters but the more complex parts of being a man, and your first reaction was to call them virgins and losers, and the worst part is you label it as toxic or dangerous and eliminate yet another space for men. If you aren’t a man don’t try to understand. These movies are usually about isolation, loneliness, and purposelessness. Obviously the tik tok girlies won’t relate. There’s plenty of beloved characters that are villains. You can want bateman’s confidence without wanting to keel the homeless. It’s also such a double standard because y’all simp for Evan peters dahmer and joe from you. If you want to go another level deeper, the rise of the “sigma” figure is due to the decline in masculinity and healthy households with both parents. Young men are desperate for any sort of firm masculine guide or mentor. Sorry for ranting but this pisses me off. You’re trying to tell me tiktok npcs have more of an in-depth understanding of movies than actual tistic dudes who stay inside all day? Also it’s art, let people take away whatever tf they want. The Matrix point is interesting to me however i can see what people like Andrew Tate mean. The system aka the matrix is one that is designed to trap you and keep you from ever being "free" but by using the Matrix to your own benefit, similar to how neo can manipulate the matrix to compete against the men in suits, you can then escape the matrix as you now live above or aware of it. I don't think Sigma's want to be like Tyler Durden or the guy from American psycho. After all, their phrase is "he's literally me", not "I want to be like him". These guys know that the people they talk about are messed up, all they want people to know is that they are also messed up. Since they have no one to talk to they do this through memes and hide their feelings behind a wall of comedy, but the big problem behind this is people just being alone and seeing themselves reflected in people that are sick, just like them. It's a cry for help more than anything else

I believe a lot of these movies are known to be Woke by ‘Sigmas’ but, because of their extreme, exaggerated and intense emotions they convey, as well as the cinematography it’s the only escape that these people can find relatable. Nobody would make movies about a sigma male with a boring uneventful life with an A list actor, so they just take small moments from these movies, that capture how they feel or what they want. When they think of American Psycho, they don’t consider his killing sprees, these clips or photos they use just demonstrates a confident, succesful man who has anger deep down, and those gosling movies also capture a male loneliness. Any media that is filmed well and aesthetically pleasing about a lonely male will be eaten up by these people. I don’t think it’s that deep, I think they just need an escape and cut the parts they want

Something to note is that most of these “sigmas” havent even watched the movie that has their beloved character. They just look at the memes.
