Tyler is a fan of jazz, soul, punk rock and putting all of this into something creative including Hip-Hop. The man expands musically, no one’s looking for the same old sound that plays on the radio 24/7. They need something different, authentic, real even. Tyler embodies that sound. He ain’t the best but he’s a perfect example of what artist need to start doing
Best kind of music is music that takes inspiration from multiple different sources. Can’t have the same exact thing for 12 songs in a row and call it an album.

The fact that people measure how good someone's music is simply by how many other artists they can get to contribute to their songs just says it all.
Thats literally the only reason DJ Khalid is famous. He mooches off others then spreads fake positivity until someone bests him.

I just started listening to Tyler like 3 weeks ago. And yeah, his songs are mysterious. But that's why I like it. The rhythm, the beats, the meaning of each and every song that he puts out is incredible. And with the clips that I see of him on yt including this video, he's such a likeable and humble guy. I'm glad that he loves what he does and doesn't let it get to his head.

I’ve never actually plunged into Tyler the Creator’s music, but he’s always struck me as someone whose motivation is his art, not what’s gonna make him huge money.
He very much is. He used to have a sketch comedy show with some of the OF gang back in the day on adult swim. It was almost like snl met jackass with some black flair. He gave up on the comedy stuff because he was tired of being referred to ass “the funny guy”. at one point he was more known to mainstream audiences for his comedy. So he decided to cut that shit out. And came out with flower boy. Which is probably his true break out album.
I didn’t start listening until IGOR dropped but his music is quite good

This is why I love Tyler's personality, he doesn't care about being on top, he doesn't get upset that his album isn't number 1, he just enjoys the music and its foundation. Tyler whole come up gives me hope. There are a lot of people in the indie scene (especially in hip hop) that think like Khaled they let the competitive spirit get to them and don't realize great music doesn't always equate to what the clubs and radio are playing. When it comes down to it, if your ears are enjoying what you’re listening to, then that’s all that matters. Tyler is a genius when it comes to his music and obviously, a lot of people’s ears are feeling his music. It’s a nice break away from the usual, as he mocked, “I’m not at the club, I’m not In The back of a Mayback”. Tyler puts out shit that people can relate to and feel. That’s what makes him a genius, the fact that he can make you feel something with his music.

For the longest time I always just ignored Tyler's music because I only knew of him from the odd shit he did on Adult Swim and assumed that's all his music was. One day I heard a song that got stuck in my head and when I finally looked it up it was Tyler and from that point on I've listened to his music and really enjoy it. I wish I would have given him a chance sooner I definitely think he deserves to be recognized for the work he does.

Something you missed was the bundle deals though. Khaled’s bundle was rejected last minute by billboard before the sales were tallied. That’s why he stormed in Epic upset. Tyler also had a bundle deal, however his was accepted, and that’s how he was able to secure the number one spot.
It’s always these little details which bring a whole new light to a confusing and crazy situation.

As a music teacher I remember listening to DJ Khalid album when it dropped and thinking it was a hit. A while after I talked to my students and asked about the music they liked, it was unanimous, Tyler the Creator. They played his video, earfquake, and I remember wondering, if they were serious or not. Overall it was different and funny to me. Overtime I realized that Khalid’s music was played everywhere, and the older gen (like me) assumed that everyone listens to it. However, Tyler’s music has a greater impression on this generation. I could be overthinking it, but I feel like Tyler’s music allows you to be yourself, while Khalid is all about superficial success. I don’t know, I could be wrong, but as long as we’re all getting music that we like, I consider it a win.
I think you’re right, I’ll add on that a lot of us had been listening to Tyler for a while already (or after discovering him looked into his discography and history) and felt a connection to the way he presented himself and interacted with his art. He was casual, funny, but still took himself seriously. We saw him grow in real time from nothing to #1. And seeing that, from someone you can connect with, it feels like you can do it too.
When DJ Khalid said "It's Khalidin' Time" and DJ Khalibed all over me that's when I knew something amazing was about to happen as he filled me up while saying "Another One"

Just the fact that DJ Khaled got so pressed about not getting a number 1 is pathetic to me. Mostly because it shows you how little he actually cares about the art, he is just name value and hit maker, not a creative. Hate him or love him, you can hear Tyler's personality in his music and his willingness to experiment/progress is respectable.
Dj khaled just feels like a side character in a game where you just don't really care what he says as long as you're having fun with what you are doing. i think most of his success comes from collabs with even bigger stars that get him a bit of spotlight.

Nah, because the rapping within his older songs was better than his newer songs. His new stuff sounds hella different and has way more singing than his older music. It depends on what kinda rap you like considering there's just so many different genres, him being the best rapper in recent times is a bit of a stretch. Earl has better rap skills imo than Tyler, but Tyler is able to combine so many different sounds and make it work.
Fr. T is also among my all time favorite rappers/hip hop artists and I hope his next project further cements that (even if it breaks the 2-year trend 💀).
