I would love for them to create an X-men universe within the MCU and not rush it - starting with a Cyclops movie to really set the tone as why he is so good and the real leader of the X-men, as well as being the first
Really glad you touched a little on Matt Fraction’s run on X-Men. The run wasn’t perfect, but Fraction had a really great understanding of Cyclops and did such a good job developing him and rationalizing all the decisions the character makes during that run.
So funny that people just got into Cyclops. He’s been a very big deal in the comics for a long time and hated for..reasons there. He was just a drama queen in the 91 series and fox movies. Summers needs to be tough but keep his composure. He’s the leader of the X-Men for a reason. Hopefully he’s cast well in MCU. I know in Deadpool it will be the old actor cause of multiverse stuff but even then I hope they redeem his character.
This is all facts. Cyclops is the most important character in the X-Men. He is the greatest leader, mutant kind has ever known, better than Charles, better than Eric by their own admission. The greatest proof of this comes from the fact that no matter how powerful they are, even if they are mad at him, even if they don’t get along with him, even if they don’t agree with him, the other X-Men will always follow him, he has earned their respect and admiration. They know, no matter what he is the guy that is always there, the one who always has their back.
I hope they play xaviar as complicated as this. Maybe less egotistical and more regretful for his shrewd decisions. Hopeful optimistic visionary Charles should be his core and the cold tactician be what he thinks he needs to be. Less narcissitic and maybe just spoiled rich boy. But maybe thats not realistic. I'd also love to see a live action arc of Cyclops breaking away from teachers pet to self actualized leader.
Cyclops became one of my favorite heroes after i read House of X/Powers of X and he became the Equivalent of Mutant Captain America for me plus with his Jim lee 90s Era costume being one of my favorite costumes ever created.
I'm an 80s kid. It wasn't cool to like Cyclops, especially when the 90s series came around. He was the loser rival of Wolverine with all the personality of 2 by 4. But he was always my favorite anyway. I loved his power, his dedication to Xavier's vision, his discipline, and his loyalty to his team. Its a shame he's passed through the hands of so many poor writers (especially those that just wanted to make him a slimy dick) and others who showed him little care. It seems things are changing now!
Can you make a video like this on Bobby Dake? I know there's a little more to him than we get in the movies and I'd love to get a better understanding of him
Cyclops is my favorite of the X-men team mostly because of his pragmatism but also he's a flawed character. He wants to live up to Xaviers ideology, but in reality he is at times closer to Magneto than he is Xavier. The criticism i seen lobbied against Cyclops tend to be because he's boring and he's not as cool as Wolverine. But in reality he the leader of not just the X-Men but is pretty much poised to be the next leader of the mutant race, he can't be as bombastic as Wolverine or Gambit or the others, he at all time has to be the adult in the situation. When it comes to Wolverine, the reason wolverine and cyclops does not get along is not because one a free spirted badass while the other is a boyscout, its because both are the Alpha Males locking horns, but even Wolverine at times really bow down to Cyclops authority as 1, he's more powerful than others like to give him credit for e.g in Marvel Dark Ages he was able to kill Wolverine and 2 Cyclops can make hard decisions not even Wolverine can/want to do. I wish the movies/series and even the comics focus more on the burden he has to carry at times and the amount of restraint he has to put in himself.
I remember reading an article that while most X-Men get spinoff series and solo books, Cyclops never really did. But that's because in a way, Uncanny was HIS series and everything flowed forth from it
I disagree that Storm is a better leader than Cyclops. Equal, yes, but her leadership has been pretty flawed at times. She spreads herself too thin. She basically abandoned the Morlocks, and she struggled to rein in Havoc when she was team leader, which led to some pretty disastrous events. She's also never led mutantkind like Cyclops has. In a way, Storm is the other side of the coin. Cyclops is logical to a fault, Storm is empathic to a fault. That's why they work best as equals. They've both said as much - each regards the other as surpassing them in some important aspect. They bring out the best in each other and have a strong mutual respect. And for the record, depowered Storm getting the drop on him in the Danger Room is not proof that she's the better leader. Ignoring the fact that he was distracted and leaning toward retirement, this didn't involve leadership at all. If they'd had two equal teams that were competing against one another, that would have been a true test of leadership.
When I think about it, Scott reminds me of Darrow from red rising. The role he takes as a rebel, leader, and symbol of his people is similar to Cyclops. The weight of the decisions and the reality of wars pull both these men who try to be what they need to be for peace.
thank you for such a great video. Cyclops has always been my favorite. you should check out Sinestro from Green Lantern, he has always been such an interesting character to me.
Thank you so much for this video on cyclops I had no idea how deep and complex the character truly was makes me interested in reading in comic version of him

Saying that Cyclops is lame because the Fox is the same as judging Batman by Batman & Robin 1997 Movie. (I am also tired of X-Men never being more than Fox's X-Men or 90s X-Men Homage.) I love Cyclops is actually my second favorite Marvel Character (loosing to Magik (Ilyana Rasputin). I always hate when Cyclops takes hate in comics or in real life. Wolverine blaming X-Force's faults on Cyclops is stupid. Cyclops create the team but it's Wolverine that makes the field and majority of decisions. Cyclops could be consider as Wolverine's superior but if any error is made during a mission under Wolverine's orders, the consequences shouldn't be Cyclops. (You don't see Magik doing the same shit with New Mutants.) The death of Charles Xavier was poorly handle. I honestly believe that AVSX was design to destroy Cyclops and his Team and boost Wolverine and his team and make the Avengers look alike the better team. Yes Scott Summers killed Charles but Charles want to kill him. If anything Scott Summers killing Charles was on self defense. Avengers vs X-Men suffers from bad writing in my opinion. The Event was about if X-men could use Hope Summers as the new Host of the Phoenix Force to help Mutant undo Scarlett Witch's "No More Mutant" Hex (X-Men's side) or if Phoenix Force is just another means to destroy lives (Avengers' side). But now you have Phoenix Five saving lifes and help humanity having better quality of life to basically turn them inti power hungry Gods to the point Emma Frost forces Mutant to serve her and Magik torturing Avengers in Limbo (basically her realm and one of Marvel's hells) because if any of Phoenix Five loose the Phoenix Five, the others gains that part. That isnt how the Phoenix Force works. The Phoenix Force is a living thing but being a Cosmic Force, it doesnt handle well emotions specially the bad ones. That is why Jean Grey went "Evil" and "Insane". Phoenix couldnt handle Jean Grey's emotions after Jean was manipulated by HellFire Club. The Phoenix was seeing the worst of Humanity has to offer unlike the time she was Jean (loving someone, the need to want to protect and help others.) The most evil thing a Mutant did was Emma Frost manipulate Namor to attack and destroy Wakanda so they engage their relationship and rule the world. A character assassination of someone who doesnt even get who is Emma Frost and writes her this evil witch that plays around with others so she can get what she wants. Instead the reformed villain that wants to make better world a better place and teach and give the opportunities to younger generation that she knows that might not get in other hand. You also might notice that Rachel Summers is completely ignore in this event, Rachel used Phoenix Force previously and for a long time without any negative issue. But she never takes a main role in the story and anything she does outside of tie-in issues. She doesnt even trains Hope to control Phoenix Force - that role is giving to Iron Fist because apparently there was a Female Iron Fist that fought Phoenix and even became both an Iron Fist and an Avatar of the Phoenix Force. The Event ends with Marvel making Cyclops "evil and darker". He escapes from Prison, he creates a new school with Emma, Magneto and Magik, he becames the Malcolm X of X-Men. Until, his book ends sell more than Wolverine and Marvel tying to decide to kill Wolverine due to his movie, Scott becomes more heroic to the point he becames a matyr in X-Men vs Inhumans.
Cyclops always needed a good writer to understand him even in the rebooted x men movies he was misunderstood more or less downplaying him. However in this x men 97 they finally do him justice.
He also has protocols for other X-men, in pure Batman fashion. The one for Wolverine involved him and Magneto I believe, Magneto beheads him and Scott blasts Wolverine's body until there's no tissue left to regenerate. Chilling stuff.
Can’t say this made me like Cyclops more, but you definitely created a new beef between me and the Professor 😡 Edit: Just finished the video, never realized how much I resonate with Scott.
I had an indescribable dislike for Charles when I was a kid, and as time went by the reasons why I disliked him just unearthed themselves. The final straw for me was the AvX debacle, whatever ounce of like I had for Xavier disintegrated on that day 😂. Funnily enough, AvX was the reason why I started liking and respecting Scott as a character.
Cyclops seems to have a bad habit of getting his entire soul sand blasted by the writers because they don't get him, don't care, or both. The extremist that Cyclops evidently becomes later on feels like such a betrayal to who he used to be, but he should never have been pushed there in the first place. The entire fear of mutants was that they could have unregulated immensely destructive capabilities that they couldn't be separated from. That was a very rational concern (if not one that cleanly maps to _any_ known real world prejudice, as I am fond of pointing out...), especially with the Brotherhood complicating human / mutant relations out of pettiness and cynicism. The entire point of stuff like the MRDies or the Sentinels was a response to this potential threat that all too often turned kinetic. But if mutants were willing to self-segregate, that _should've_ been the end of the conversation. That's about as unharmful to humans as it gets. And don't get me started on that terrigen mist crap: a substance which awakens the abilities of inhumans while also being toxic to mutants? Gee, it's almost as if the writers purposefully baked mutual exclusivity into the worldbuilding when they didn't have to because heroes beating up other heroes was really in vogue for a period. Charles Xavier's plan was for mutants and humans to live together in peace. Mutants would responsibly train and hone their powers both for their own sake and the betterment of humanity as a whole, and humans wouldn't have good cause to hate and fear mutants as a category anymore beyond the few anomalous screwheads that every group has. To essentially declare that idea a complete pipe dream is why I can't take modern X-Men seriously. Hell, it made me respect DC a lot more. Superman wouldn't be caught dead being this stupid unless he were, say, turned evil in the plot of an incredibly obnoxious video game three times that I know of. If it is the ultimate fate of humans and mutants to fight forever until one side eradicates the other, what's the point? And what kind of stupid pill did the entire universe take that got them to believe in this ridiculous zero sum game? Why did the writers even _attempt_ this? Drama? Incompetence? Pettiness? Some misguided social allegory? Deliberate agitprop? Outstanding. X-Men, once a cautionary tale about the perils of time travel, retroactively turned surprisingly alright race allegory, essentially admits that integration and peace between different peoples is impossible. Because when I pick up an X-Men book, I want to read all about how it's us or them. X-Men was supposed to be above this. The X-Men were the Black Ops to the Avengers' NATO. They handle matters under their jurisdiction quietly and covertly because they were ultimately fighting for those who hate and fear them, and if they're lucky changing just a few minds and hearts along the way. They were heroes to be sure, but prudent ones. They're aware of mutants' reputation, and so don't stick around for the glory after saving the day if they can help it. It was always going to be a slow process to set that noble example. Now... screw it. They're just an attack squadron. Got a problem with 'em? Eat cosmic death firebird because Magneto was right all along.
Yeah. I like a lot of X-Men stories, and I understand why the writers want to use mutants as an allegory for any and all oppressed social groups, but the whole mutant hate thing is usually handled in such a stupid manner, in-universe, that I just can't accept it. That's the one thing I liked about X-Men: Last Stand: for all its flaws, it handled the "mutant problem" in a fairly sensible, nuanced manner that actually treated mutations as what they are, not as allegories for things in the real world. As opposed to modern comics, which treat mutants as a stand-in for every real-world oppressed people group in history, and also writes them as racial supremacists - even the nice ones are condescending, saying they're the way of the future and have evolved enough to treat humans better than we treat those we perceive as inferior, claims which are as insulting as they are demonstrably false. But when Cyclops isn't being a racial supremacist, he's a really great guy, and a really cool character (usually).
I didn’t exactly like Cyclops at first, now after watching X-Men Evolution and X-Men 97 show, it gotten me to favour him as the best leader in Marvel and represents true masculinity
Great video. Cyclops definitely is an underrated character. Side note: I love the fact that I can hear the Assassin's Creed 3 Multiplayer theme in the background. Very nice 😁
They don’t understand him. They think he’s a goody two-shoes, but he’s not. He just wants to perform at the highest level. Cyke is the kind of guy that will study the night before a big test or game, while his peers or teammates party for a bit. Then when they perform poorly because they weren’t focused, they’ll get jealous of Cyclops for taking the task seriously.
Cyclops was always my favorite as a kid. But I could never put my finger on why. I never really got a chance to understand his character until I was older (having some disposable income helps.) It's good to see Cyclops is cool again.
Wolverine has always been my fave x men but cyclops was second growing up and I feel like I’m the only one that liked him prior to the reboot show. For me I loved cyclops because of the capcom vs games. Dude was a badass in them. Never got the hate he got I get that the movies messed up his character but that’s not who cyclops really is. He’s a captain America es que badass that I like cap who grew up in a different time is actually the product of people hating him because of his mutation but regardless he goes the route of proffessor Xavier and battles for equal rights and good. That to me is harder than a boys out like captain America or Superman who grew up a certain way that helped them have the morals they have.
I remember reading these stories when they were being published. This all part of the post bankruptcy, Marvel with the Ultimate Universe, Civil War, House of M and Dark Regin. A lot of good and bad came from this ear of Marvel
Nice of people to remember that Scott is supposed to be a leader and a good one at that. He makes questionable decisions at times but no one else really wants to make them so he has to make them.
He's basically mutant Batman, he even has contingency plans against other heroes and the X-Men themselves if he ever needs to fight them. Shame this aspect of his hasn't been covered very well outside comics, at least people are now coming to respect the character after a decade of disservice thanks to the movies...
The don’t even touch how powerful his powers are the Visors are there to inhibit his powers , the are powerful as his eyes can see and will obliterate everything In his path, his ocular blast are 100X more powerful than a nuclear blast
Magneto is STILL my favourite mutant, with Wolverine being second; however, Cyclops moved up the tier-after seeing Hickman's & Duggan's run on the X-Men comics-now shares that second spot with Logan!!
I think its funny I managed to recognize the soundtrack of Assassin's Creed Revelations midway through the video lol. Right at the end of the "War" section
A lot of responsibility was placed on Scott's shoulders as leader of his team their fate rests in his hands. You can place him between the two extremes of xavier and magneto. Xavier the extreme idealist who wanted them to surrender to the abuse, or magneto who takes his fight for mutant equality to the extreme, at times is a mutant supramacist, any action is justified for the good of mutants, a balanced approach is the hardest one to walk, you will get push from both extremes, it will never feel good like it does at the extremes, While the x-men are persecuted they also have a lot of power, they are capable of being a destructive force, scott has to take the weight of that that his team could become what people fear. Having to push back on those close to you can be one of the most painful experiences imaginable. The people that are your closest friends or even like family to you. Just because you're close with someone, when they start to go towards wrong, it doesn't make it okay. It's very difficult to be in that position. Knowing that if you push back, you're damaging the bond, and it might not come back. Never as strong of a bond as it once was or they might cut you off
THE FIRST X-MAN Our Capt. Summers will always deserve INFINITE respects, the most misunderstood/ under appreciated Super Hero in the entire Marvel universe, to me Cyclops will always be infinite times much more interesting and appealing as a character than that overrated Captain Lamerica TO ME, MY BEAUTIFUL X-MEN PEOPLE

Cyclops became one of my favorite heroes after i read House of X/Powers of X and he became the Equivalent of Mutant Captain America for me plus
with his Jim lee 90s Era costume being one of my favorite costumes ever created.
Cyclops has always been the mutant equivalent of Captain America, just with some added edge.
@@smashmaster521captain America is not a mutant also captain America is more skilled than cyclops.
Evolution and 97 shows why Cyclops deserves the respect he gets. He’s a top tier X-Men, and that’s no lie
Perfect video of my favorite character in all of Marvel history. Good job 🤘🏼
Damn.... He is the embodiment of Magneto and Professor X
Cyclops is one of the most complicated people in the marvel universe. The movies were a major injustice to Scott Summers.
What a great love letter to Cyclops. He is definitely layered. Great content.
Can you make a video like this on Bobby Dake? I know there's a little more to him than we get in the movies and I'd love to get a better understanding of him
The glazing since the show started back up is crazy
Excellent overview of Cyclops and his awesomeness! Subscribed!
Shout out to you for using 3 of my Fab5 members. Classic.
Bro this a beautiful video essay
As a Lifelong Cyclops fan, I THANK YOU, for putting respect my guys name!
I remember reading an article that while most X-Men get spinoff series and solo books, Cyclops never really did. But that's because in a way, Uncanny was HIS series and everything flowed forth from it
Cyclops has done do much for the xnen throughout the years and is arguably one of marvels most developed characters
This was amazing bro. Inspiring too
When I think about it, Scott reminds me of Darrow from red rising.
Thank you so much for this video on cyclops I had no idea how deep and complex the character truly was makes me interested in reading in comic version of him
The ultimate “fuck around and find out” build
Was always my favorite Xmen. Even when I was much younger.
Been a MINUTE since, and can't believe I missed you posted, Sage. Next video you should do Hulk. No, do MAGNETO. That man as a Marvel Anti-Villain has grown SO much over the years. Definitely do Magneto, next. Maybe some horror characters? Good to hear your breakdowns, and that beautiful rainfall behind your dope voice again. 🥲🥲🙂🙂🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙇🏾♂️🙇🏾♂️🙇🏾♂️💯💯🖤🖤😌😌❤️
Saying that Cyclops is lame because the Fox is the same as judging Batman by Batman & Robin
1997 Movie. (I am also tired of X-Men never being more than Fox's X-Men or 90s X-Men Homage.)
I love Cyclops is actually my second favorite Marvel Character (loosing to Magik (Ilyana Rasputin).
(You don't see Magik doing the same shit with New Mutants.)
The death of Charles Xavier was poorly handle.
The Phoenix was seeing the worst of Humanity has to offer unlike the time she was Jean (loving someone, the need to want to protect and help others.)
The most evil thing a Mutant did was Emma Frost manipulate Namor to attack and destroy Wakanda so they engage their relationship and rule the world.
Been telling people 4 years...there's a REASON even Wolverine puts respect on Cyclops name...he's that dude...
Cyclops has endured more tragedy than any superhero, ever. He is my favorite super hero of all time.
Make one on Beast Boy next
5:58 Yeah I bet he was...
Cyclops always needed a good writer to understand him even in the rebooted x men movies he was misunderstood more or less downplaying him. However in this x men 97 they finally do him justice.
HEY THIS VIDEO MADE MY MORNING I LOVE CYCLOPS
@5:22 "Summers Protocol"
This guy is really dangerous!
- Batman
He also has protocols for other X-men, in pure Batman fashion. The one for Wolverine involved him and Magneto I believe, Magneto beheads him and Scott blasts Wolverine's body until there's no tissue left to regenerate. Chilling stuff.
I actually liked his portion the animated series and Evolution. It was a shame they didn’t utilize him more in the movies.
5:11
Cyclops doesn't have 26 plans. He said that he doesn't use letters for his plans because it implies that he only has 26.
scott would have control over his powers if not for a nasty concussion he got while in the orphanage
Respect the Shooter! Cyclops got the long range game on lock. 😃
Cyclops is the Captain America of an entire species...
As someone who has not read many comics, what is Cyclops relationship with Magneto like as his views evolve and become more like alike?
Can’t say this made me like Cyclops more, but you definitely created a new beef between me and the Professor 😡
Edit: Just finished the video, never realized how much I resonate with Scott.
My favorite marvel character
I couldn't agree more your speaking 💯 facts my man
I didn’t exactly like Cyclops at first, now after watching X-Men Evolution and X-Men 97 show, it gotten me to favour him as the best leader in Marvel and represents true masculinity
Cyclops was right.
The Cyclops Renaissance. I'm up🔥🔥🔥
Cyclops will always be my favorite lmao him and sunspot
Lore of Cyclops Deserves Respect: The Greatest (X-Men) momentum 100
Cyclops was always my favorite as a kid. But I could never put my finger on why. I never really got a chance to understand his character until I was older (having some disposable income helps.)
It's good to see Cyclops is cool again.
I like Cyclops... After hearing this sounds like what Batman would be if he were a mutant
i would say, cyclops is more like a realistic take on captain america
He's basically mutant Batman, he even has contingency plans against other heroes and the X-Men themselves if he ever needs to fight them. Shame this aspect of his hasn't been covered very well outside comics, at least people are now coming to respect the character after a decade of disservice thanks to the movies...
Shadow of the Colossus and Hollow Knight music? Good ass taste my man
They must care a equally powerful actor as cyclops in the re-boot. Homelander Anthony Starr?
To be fair, the movies watered down all the heroes, but Cyclops got the extra special treatment; not sure why.
I thought cyclops was omega level
Fox did him dirty.
Awesome video!
Very well done... CYCLOPS WAS RIGHT!
Disney 👏get👏James 👏Marsden 👏back! He was superb in the role. He *was* Cyclops! 😎
Cyclops has to plan for everything and has to manage all of their different personalities in the field.
Jason Aaron character assassinated cyclops
scott is the bridge between magneto and professor x
The don’t even touch how powerful his powers are the Visors are there to inhibit his powers , the are powerful as his eyes can see and will obliterate everything In his path, his ocular blast are 100X more powerful than a nuclear blast
While he’s not my favorite X-Men he certainly does still have my respect
Magneto is STILL my favourite mutant, with Wolverine being second; however, Cyclops moved up the tier-after seeing Hickman's & Duggan's run on the X-Men comics-now shares that second spot with Logan!!
I think its funny I managed to recognize the soundtrack of Assassin's Creed Revelations midway through the video lol. Right at the end of the "War" section
0:44 my fave Evolution Cyclops
Never as strong of a bond as it once was or they might cut you off
Good job.
OPTIC BLAST!!
Didnt even mention him beating uranus😢
THE FIRST X-MAN
Our Capt. Summers will always deserve INFINITE respects, the most misunderstood/ under appreciated
Super Hero in the entire Marvel universe, to me Cyclops will always be infinite times much more interesting and appealing as a character than that overrated Captain Lamerica
TO ME, MY BEAUTIFUL X-MEN PEOPLE
It's virtuous when Cyclops make children into soldiers but vicious when Xavier does it?
Can we get a video of The Walking Dead with a interesting character named Negan? He’s the guy who led the people called the saviors.
Cyclops/Scott summers is my favorite X-Men....
