For every god loves man kills you had five space operas where the X-men went off to help the star jammers overthrow an intergalactic tyrant or fight the brood, as well as plenty of hanging out and having fun shenanigans and the occasional bout of body horror.
I didn't have a problem with Ultimatium, although at that point, I completely checked out of the Ultimate comics except for the Mile Morales Spider-Man stories, that Arthur Adams X-Men series, and Ultimate Villain(?), where Reed Richards was now the villain. Maybe because I largely viewed the Ultimate Universe characters as versions of the 616 characters. Doctor Strange is dead? Well, "real" Doctor Strange is still around. I would point out that in the first X-Men arc, Cyclops temporarily defected to the Brotherhood because he wasn't sure of Xavier's philosophy, so his killing Magneto isn't crazy.
@@rossman8919 Well that's what they did I would disagree that they had to for Barry to be interesting. I've always liked them both personally. Idk why they can't just both have a comic running at once. Superman and Batman both have multiple titles and they're both just one guy. If any hero is justified in having two series running it's the flash.
Hearing you talk about the mutant cure reminded me of the line from Beast in Xmen Last Stand "Is it cowardice to save oneself from persecution? Not all of us can fit in so easily"
You know Alex, you talk about the depressing nature of how the X-Men proved to have learned nothing in Ultimatum. But I feel that nothing sums up the depressing nature of that event more than the revelation that Nick Fury gave to Magneto where he revealed that mutants are products of the Weapon X program, in an attempt to recreate the Super Soldier serum. In other words, unlike 616, mutants AREN’T a “next phase” in evolution like they thought. Instead, they are exactly what a large portion of the world consider them to be: mistakes. Just goes to show how the Ultimate Universe all but abandoned any sense of hope or humanity, for complete and utter nihilism.
I actually think having Mutants being mistakes works fine with the 1610 continuity, because that's what virtually every earth based hero and villain in that continuity was.
Hi, Alex. You may notice that I have an appreciation for Post-Ultimatum Ultimate X-Men, especially for Jimmy Hudson. This was like my little corner of Marvel Comics that nobady talks but I loved it anyway. So when you announced this video, I was over the floor and hyped. 🎉 Anyway, I watched this video and it's great. I am glad that you find bright spots in this series that no one give a chance. Despite sometimes being a little cynical and fumble some plotlines (like Jean becoming crazy and decide to kill all the mutants that don't follow her), I believe that the second volume has a lot of things that make up for the weakest points: Kitty becoming the leader, the young generation taking over and succeded what the first X Men team fail, the whole Mutant Nation in the desert and how despite all the losses and hate towards them, they didn't give up. However, I am little disappointed that you didn't talk about Jimmy Hudson (until the near end) 😢, who in my opinion it's the most interesting mutant post Ultimatum due one simple fact: it's Wolverine without the baggage. He's a simple kid that have similar powers but doesn't define him. He's easygoing (unless you provoke him), reckless but not rudeless (without a cause) and very loyal. Logan left him to be raised in a small town on Florida by a friend that met in the Golf War, so he can have something that he didn't have: a happy childhood with loving parents. That allows him to be good despite all bad things that happened after joining the Kitty group. Not only that but he became Kitty biggest supporter when she made the deal. He was always stand by her and always help her when she need it (until she regain her confidence). And despite for a little consider joining Jean team, he returned to be with Kitty and the others. After Secret Wars, he was one of the few characters of the Ultimate Universe to survive the destruction (like Miles Morales) and join the Young Version of the Original 5 X Men (don't asked why they were teenagers). The only reason that happened was at the time Logan was dead, so Wolverine mantle was available. This allow not to die with the Ultimate Universe and being forgotten. However, when main Logan returned, Marvel decided to make him a Poison host (that are antiSymbiotes creatures) and got rid of him. That was very sad bc I truly believe that he has a lot of potential that would allow him to stand out of Wolverine (and his other sons), but only if they would use him more. I hope Alex that you read this and consider doing a follow up video telling Jimmy Hudson story (like you did with Ben Reilly) as the Story of the Wolverine that Marvel forgot. In any case, I will be excited for your next video since it's about Paul (the Symbol of Current ASM status quo) and the next videos that you will post. Cheers.
@@darthkamen6564 Yeah, I truly thought that he would be back in events like King in Black or Death of Venonverse in order to use his abilities with Poison. However ,with Ultimate Invasion simple ignored him, it clearly shows that Marvel has truly forgotten his existence. ={
the post ultimatum era of the ultimate universe is my favorite era because it took what was left over from ultimatum and used it to its advantage to set it self a part from the 616 universe in major ways. its kinda like the prototype of what is the new current ultimate universe where its setting itself a part from the 616 universe by re inventing most of the characters origins.

The editing in this is so so so good….Great work!
18:41 I feel like the Ultimate universe had more of these deformed people panels than most other imprints lol
Great video so far!
btw remember when flash died for like 30 years? That was good
In comic or IRL?
@@arran4285 Irl, his death after Crisis really stuck.
Remember when they erased wally and gave aspects of wally to Barry to make him interesting
@@rossman8919
Well that's what they did I would disagree that they had to for Barry to be interesting.
Thats why for all its imperfections, I loved Ultimate-Spiderman, because it was the one beacon of hope while this nightmare was going on.
Hi, Alex. You may notice that I have an appreciation for Post-Ultimatum Ultimate X-Men, especially for Jimmy Hudson. This was like my little corner of Marvel Comics that nobady talks but I loved it anyway. So when you announced this video, I was over the floor and hyped. 🎉
Anyway, I watched this video and it's great.
Cheers.
I love seeing another Jimmy Hudson fan. I hate Marvel has all but abandoned him.
@@darthkamen6564 Yeah, I truly thought that he would be back in events like King in Black or Death of Venonverse in order to use his abilities with Poison. However ,with Ultimate Invasion simple ignored him, it clearly shows that Marvel has truly forgotten his existence. ={
the post ultimatum era of the ultimate universe is my favorite era because it took what was left over from ultimatum and used it to its advantage to set it self a part from the 616 universe in major ways. its kinda like the prototype of what is the new current ultimate universe where its setting itself a part from the 616 universe by re inventing most of the characters origins.
The movies : Wolverine and Friends.
Ultimate : Kitty Pryde and friends.
this was great, i usually don’t comment on videos but i’d love if you did a deeper dive on jimmy hudson, he’s criminally underrated and deserves some attention if marvel is gonna act like he blipped off the face of the earth after 2019
I don't know what it is exactly about your videos that just hit so well but they are fire.
Kitty Pryde was my favorite Ultimate Marvel character and the loss of that character is the one thing I miss most about the original Ultimate Universe...
sometimes we rise and fall AND RISE BACK BABY
I can’t go on without more videos Alex please I’m begging
Cancel all my plans, NEW alex lennen banger just dropped
It’s a shame that so much effort and time is needed for these videos because I would quit my job just to watch these every single day
as someone who grew up reading the TPB's of ultimate x-men this video hits home. I never really got to experience the post ultimatum era because i didnt have those books, but from what ive seen, its very interesting. Kudos for making this video Alex!
I would LOVE to see you cover more X-Men content in the future; Love your videos, amazing work, keep it up.
I'm actually one of the people that dropped ultimate X-Men with ultimatum I kind of just assumed that the series was going to be done after that. It's wild to know that went on for a bit longer and that the story actually seems really cool
Wow you are alive!
Missed you man
"So when do I cancel the book?"
That's the fun part: you don't!"
This is the best come back after being afk for a long back I have ever seen
Your analysis of Xavier is so brilliant and done so well
When is the 5 hour Paul deepdive? There's so much lore to tap there-- I've been a Paul fan for decades and even i don't know all of it
Your videos are so funny and densely researched they’re great for repeat viewing
Just subbed & hit the bell. My algorithm is actually working properly again & it feels like the power to materialize perfect channels has been restored.
To me my Tube-Men! 😅
We’re starving Alex please more comic history videos I can’t go on without you
It's been a minute since your last video. Your videos are always cool and insightful. Can't wait for the next upload.
Finally someone talking about my personal favourite x-men stories. I started reading specifically after ultimatum and was blown away and it pains me to try and convince people to give this a read.
It’s good to see that the ultimate X-Men got their redemption in the writing.😺
this idea of Kitty and the other teen being a new magneto and charles was a cool touch
I was just thinking "what happened to that comic book guy i liked i swear he said he was uploading soon" thrn 15 minutes later this dropped
That Xavier-Miyazaki parallel you made was perfect
Banger video! You've really sold Ultimatum vol 2 to me! Really excited for Spiderman Vs Paul :)
Nice to see some love for the original Ultimate X-MEN- Hoping for a possible analysis of Ultimate F4 sometime in the future. The downfall of Ultimate Reed is one of the most weird, unintentionally narratively consistent character arcs ever written for this imprint and I honestly love it so much.
>Logan the first mutant, with highly assasin trainning from years, the ability not from healing but survive anything :
>Gets one hit and 2 stabs to Magneto and fcking dies
>Valkyrie a normal girl without trainning but god powers :
>Cuts an arm of Magneto and lives
Well ok . . .
Idk much about xmen but maybe don't expect the dude with metal for bones to do well against the guy who controls metal 😂
@@grantcatdone3417 no, im saying magneto could kill Vakrye but the plot suck so much
that ironman and cyclops do NOTHING AGAINST MAGNETO (CYClops could CLOSE FCKING EYES and ironman shut down his power) but well i guess is wolverine fault xDDD
@@Morfe02yeah i hate ultimate Wolerine but he shouldn't have died like that, just didn't make sense
@@ironmaster6496 or they should not put Valkrye striking Magneto and living (she even uses a METAL SWORD)
Also the Death of Wolverine is kinda pointless because he doesnt even kill Magneto just weak him, Cyclops kill him by A or B or C . . .
While I'm not a fan of the Ultimate X- men comics I really enjoy Kitty Prydes story especially her relationship with Peter.
As always. This was worth the wait
Hope all is wellCan’t wait for the next video whenever that is
numba two alex lennen fan 🙏

comicstorian but youll get there one day
Most underrated UA-camr in the world by far your vids are amazing
First time I’ve actually been fairly early to a video on this channel. So I’ll take that opportunity before this comment gets lost and say that I have learned so much about comics from this UA-cam channel, the content you make is entertaining and engaging and love how much I get to learn about comics, this is way better than simply recapping a story bit by bit.
Can you please do entire history of the green lanterns from earth. Or just entire history of Hal Jordan. I think it’ll be really interesting seeing as it’s entirely based off his pure will to move forward. Pls consider I’m a huge fan of your videos, especially the entire history ones.
I agree that Ultimate X-Men after Ultimatum is wildly underrated
I've started watching comic book videos recently, & I have to appreciate that not everyone can do them as well as this
Beautiful video, very well made. Why is iceman wearing a durag for like 90% of this? I assume the reason you didn’t touch on it here is because you’re planning on making a whole separate video on the topic. Can’t wait to see it.
Good bit lol
I feel like sometimes creators get their hands on a big mainstream title and just want to have their own Frank Miller Dark Knight Rises moment. It can get annoying
Yeah, except instead of being a cool reworking of a preexisting character, they just kinda ruin things
Thank you for this amazing vid speaking on the original Ultimate X-Men series.👏 Seriously an underrated and interesting series to speak on.
Always a great day when Alex posts!
I look up to you so much Alex, you are an inspiration and I love your videos! Thx 4 the amazing content I don’t feel so alone in my nerdiness when I watch it
I'm not a fan of video essays. I swore I would never watch one again but I couldn't ignore this. It may sound over the top but thank you so much. Ultimate Comics X-Men deserves more, I hope more people can now see what I saw.
Long Live Utopia
HE'S BACK!!
it's so easy and profitable to be a hater these days, yet you brought a nuanced and interesting point of view to this series. A lot of what was done in the Ultimate Universe felt like testing grounds for the 616 universe, can only hope there's a much brighter future to the new Ultimate Universe
First you made me read Ultimate Spider-Man, I swear if you make me read Ultimate X-Men…
(It’s mostly because I loved Kitty in Ultimate Spider-Man and hearing about her role in the X-Men run makes me want to experience it myself-)
2:49 nice costume design for Kitty Pride, taking cues both from her nickname "Shadowcat" and Spider-Man, her ex in this continuity.
i have read all of ultimate spider-man and nothing else really so seeing this and getting to know what ended up happening to Kitty is really nice she deserved the best and not a cheating peter or brian micheal bendis stand in
Brother made one of the most compelling essays about the cycle of violence ever it made me wanna return to read cape comics
Lets hope they don’t make the same mistake with the new Ultimate X-men in that new Ultimate universe
As a fan of Ultimate Spider-Man, wow I kinda love the idea of Kitty Pryde having to step up and become a mutant leader after Ultimatum. Pretty cool.
BABE WAKE UP! NEW ALEX LENNEN VIDEO DROPPED 🎉❤
Well done..good video, I think Jimmy Hudson ended up with a exiles team for a while.and hasnt been seen since
I was just getting ready to eat! Thank you!!! 👑
Dude that was one great vid man! Liked the point where they kinda missed the ball on the meaning of The X-Men being for nothing. Great stuff.
Still loving the content, sorry I'm a bit late to this one, keep making these great videos.
Whats your opinion on sin eater? In fact,, what IS a sin eater?
@@adreeeandanothere510 I'm quite the fan, He's a older spider man villain.
I remember you from the other video
Wow 2 whole videos of you not mentioning sin eater.
you should mention him again
Wow. Thank yoy for this. I always heard that the Ultimate X-Men and most of the Ultimate universe ended with Ultimatum. It makes me feel a lot better that it continued to grow and find its footing into something better.
HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!
lets gooo hyped for this spiderman vs paul video. Also great ultimate xmen video alex you never disappoint.
Came here from "the wall" being recommended. I must confess I've... never really been into superheroes. Being raised a (albeit very VERY weird) girl most of my life, it was seen as just boy stuff. I've watched maybe the spiderverse films, one recent marvel movie against my will, the usual.
I must say I am actually so fucking shocked at how well you can tell these stories, I'm usually never missing context and put on videos in order to chill and listen to when I play games / work on webcomic / code. Seeing that, two years ago, you had basically no subscribers is crazy. Happy 300k+ subs, dude. I fear I now intimately know all of the secrets on those weird marvel characters.
What a great comeback. Awesome video.
4:10 In all honesty, I consider this reaction to be a low-grade case of irony poisoning. Spend enough time watching irl unstaged videos of shit happening and you'll quickly realize that if you want dialogue that sounds human, it has to be "cringe". Humanity is "cringe". People are "cringe". Existence is "cringe". Reality is "cringe".
"the cycle of revenge changes nothing but the number of graves you have to dig" kick ass phrase
