The Bible gets to this idea as well with the parable of the talents. The story was never about the fact the one guy was given more talents than everyone else. It was always about the fact that no matter how many talents you have; you're supposed to multiply and expand their scope, thus being able to give back more than what was given to you. The issue comes when you dont do that because then it never grows and you never grow. So after everything is said and done even the one talent you had will be taken. That's people need to understand. Whether you have 1, 2, or 5 talents, you have to do the best you can and grow what you have. That way even if you don't have alot at the end of the day, you'll still have more than nothing.
@@elmermedina1713I hope you can accomplish it. I also want to make my own stories to inspire. It will take hard work, but if you truly want something you will work hard to get it
I feel really conflicted about the word 'talent'. I'll be careful with how I word this, because I promise I don't mean to cause offence, only to offer my perspective. Before I go into it, I absolutely agree with you, that any skill or passion you have deserves to be fostered, so you can grow in confidence to share the result with others and inspire them to do the same. It is possible to lose a skill that is not actively practiced, but I don't think of it in terms of someone taking unused skills away from you. Given the rise in popularity of AI 'art', I have come to see the word talent almost as an insult, an inelegant way of praising one's skills. When I show my art and people say I'm talented, it feels like a backhanded insult, like the art I made exists because of this gift that was inside me, rather than attributing it to the persistence and dedication I put into working on it. If something is a talent, it implies that it is inaccessible to people who don't have the 'gift'. If something is a skill, it means that anyone can aspire to reach the same level and accomplish it through sheer tenacity and determination. In the case of AI, it allows people to cosplay as artists, caring only for the obscene end product and giving no thought to the end process or the people's art that they flagrantly disregard, so they can feel better about having a 'talent' for typing words into a computer and claiming the result makes them an artist. Even if the art you produce is a lesser quality to the level of art you aspire to make, it still shows greater passion and heart than anything AI could ever make. Art is all about meaning. AI is surface level franken-mashing elements together without any thought or understanding of the meaning of colours, concepts or themes, only striving to replicate popular elements to maximise on viewer retention, capitalising on views. This is not an artistic goal. This is a business goal. No artist wants Big Number. We want what Big Number represents. When you go viral, you are not in good company. I wanted to find a positive way of finishing this. Sorry I didn't get there in the end.
@@iantophernicus6042 I think.....there is a distinction between talent and skill. At the same time both are intrinsically linked. One can be talented enough to do something, but have no practical skills towards it. On the other hand one can have all the skills in the world, but without that extra something talent brings, you can only go so far. One can make up the difference with skill, but talent and skill is what is needed to be the best. I think what I meant by bringing up the story of the talents is to show that there is such a thing as God given talents. Yet without developing the skills necessary to grow said talents, no matter how many "talents" you have you won't go anywhere. When you work with what is given to us and expand it to help others, that is when God gives you more. Whether that's discovering new talents you didn't know you had, or more opportunity to develop more skills. These things make more sense when we dedicate our lives and work towards a God driven purpose. Your talent for art is a gift, in a way. Trust and believe when I say my art looks like a Rorschach picture 😆. At the same time if you were to never draw art again, you might lose that overtime. Skills are just the willingness to develop the techniques necessary to keep your talents. The story of the talents and for Heros too is to be in service of your fellow man, no matter the way you achieve that. The path of service is not an easy one, but I think Jesus makes that path clearer and more doable.
Growing up I'd forced my parents to watch a lot of kids movies with me (most of which they weren't particularly fond of) but The Incredibles was always one they legitimately enjoyed and were drawn to rewatching. As an adult now myself I understand why, it handles its themes very concisely, and doesn't shy away from more mature topics-nor even mature content. Children get punched in the face and shot at with guns in this movie and it can get away with it by treating the audience with respect which is an aspect of Brad Bird's films which I love so much.
Your discussion on why the people had to bring down the supers gives me a new perspective on people who hate others for simply being different. Anything that makes someone stand out, whether a special talent, a condition they have, or their lifestyle, they see as a threat to them, despite it having nothing to do with them.
I just now realized, at the end of your video, the pun. Parr. The "Parr" family. A par is a golf term, for the average score. As supers, they're the Incredibles. As civilians, they're Parrs.
Helen: “Everone's special, Dash.” Dash: “Which is another way of saying no one is.” Syndrome: “Everyone can be super. And if everyone's super...no one will be.” *COINCIDENCE, I THINK NOT!*
Conformity is the primary antagonistic force of the movie; Syndrome's endgame is to make everyone and therefore no one exceptional. The school that Dash can't fit into is wanting everyone to be mediocre. Even Bob's boss is a force of evil thriving under conformity, his fingernails perfectly trimmed, the four pencils perfectly aligned and perfectly sharpened all the exact same amount. Everything is trying to conform them, but they cannot abide by that entirely.
I honestly could have watched it in theaters when I was younger but missed it. The trailers got me so hyped for it. I love super heroes and this is one of the best Disney/Pixar movies ever. Honestly I relate so much to Bob now, heck even when I was younger I related to going back to better times. The family dynamic, the villain and satire is just amazing.
One thing about it I think Bob had a harder time adjusting to a normal life mostly cause of how it happened and felt like he was forced to instead of coming down on his own witch could have spured it making hin gorify the glory days. But I agree I can let pass the dude sueing cause he wanted to die personally I don't see why he just didn't try again but eh. But those people on the train oh naw they would have literally died if mr.increadable didn't save them
Can you also talk about monsters university? The movie tells a message about the harsh reality that you can’t always fulfill your childhood dreams which makes it one of the best and most realistic Pixar films. Another idea would be to talk about the movie up because that’s also one of the most beautiful Pixar movies ever made.
You have a way to put into words what touches me, especially in a story. Honestly, I must have watched the Incredible when I was around 4 or 5 years old for the first time, and this has truly been one of my family's favourite movies of all time. I thought it was because we related to the Parr family, but as you explained, I think it's mostly because the mondain becomes exceptional (or as important as the exceptional) in the movie. You just connect with these characters, and their struggles are so human that it's impossible not to care. Forever saying Pixar pre-Disney era was the the BEST 👌 thanks for your analysis. Take care! ❤
Maaaaan watching this movie as an almost 30-year-old hits VERY differently than it did watching it as a kid. Heart's out to the whatever guy(s) having a midlife crisis and a struggling marriage who made it.
„When everyone is super, then no one will be.“ I question that belief and say „When everyone is super, then the superness is not the specialness but the way in which you are super is then in the focus of specialness.“ So it is a Transformation in consciousness. When the focus is less on the specialness and more on the type of power then it is not the having of power that makes you special but the „type“ of power and how you use it which is special. So when everyone is „super“ in their own way through the focus of their Type of Power the „being super“ is present. But not in a Top Down way and more in a socially helping heartopen way.
I hope if we ever get incredibles 3 that it's about the Parents retiring and the kids trying to find replacements but they all come to realize that they're fine as a team of three or even as independent supers and the parents can learn to finally relax and leave the world to their children or the next generation or whatever. Idk I just want one more movie before the voice actors retire but considering the gap between the two we have idk
One of my favorite scenes is when Helen writes off Syndrome’s men as nothing more than faceless goons who need to be put down. Men with no sense of morality who aren’t conflicted about having to shoot children. She doesn’t care for who they are and why they might be swayed by Syndrome’s technology. It reminds me of Luke believing that Vader (the child killer) can be redeemed, but happily slaughters the everyday imperials working a 9-5 government job.
The thing that syndrome didn't get is that being super is not about the powers, it's about the heart. Everyday we see a person without powers putting their life on the line for strangers or making sacrificea so other people could be better, live better. Those are the true heroes, the ones that sacrifice themselfs for the others, despite their circunstacies
I've always wondered since the supes were forced to retire wat about the villains. They could have seen this as an advantage take wat they want without anyone being able to stop them the government cant bribe all villains whos to say that they do bribe them they won't keep their word.
As a child, I didn't understand how public opinion became so hostile to supers overnight because of the train incident and how the press began to put the magnifying glass on the defects of the supers with so much emphasis. Now, after social movements of resentment and identity became state policy, I understand it perfectly. The mediocre individual does not tolerate the existence of ideals and excellence that he cannot aspire to, so he would prefer to see it disappear and suffer the worsening of his living conditions as long as exceptional people the one he envies remains trapped at the bottom of the bucket with him.
I wholeheartedly agree with the message of the incredibles and how you shouldn't pull others down if someone seems more special than you. That being said, it only works in this context. Is it really so bad to want someone with so much control over a power they have to be checked? In case a power like that goes to their heads? I don't trust anyone, not even myself, to hold something like super strength or even invisibility without some oversight.

Policing people with power won't help, I guess even I don't want that. I just dont feel like giving so much credence to people with powers right off the bat. Anyways I don't want to debate this further about whether people with powers = inherently good or whatever. The incredible is a great movie and it's message is equally great
@TriggeringOpinionsandFacts it wouldn't do us any good to over police people with powers. The best we could do is make sure people with powers grow up in environments that provide them with education and empathy for their fellow man. It's a difficult thing to think about
Bob might have been able to tolerate a civilian life, if that life didn't seem to be by design humiliating (the fact that everything is far too small for him) and mocked the concept of helping people, which he values very much. The company he works for is straight up criminal, refusing to pay out insurance and commiting wage theft (see the letter on the boss's desk), and the boss acts like a supervillain. It's not like Bob can't do an insurance job; he's as smart as he is strong and values the former over the latter, and comes alive when he teaches the old woman how to get her claim. He just needed a better job. Not that Bob didn't have a hand in his situation, constantly giving himself away and forcing his family to move and single handedly tanking a government branch that was there to help him; they understandably stopped caring about his wellbeing.
What an amazing film with nuanced themes and well developed characters! Surely a sequel would be a great movie too and not assassinate it's characters or backtrack at all!
Thank you for another amazing and great video that broadened my understanding of something I didn't know i needed , until it was shown to me. For me this video helped explain the resentment I've been noticing people have for creatives in multiple fields. It also helped me understand a little better why so many people might have been so eager to accept AI art.
I watched The Incredibles when it first hit the theaters in the early 2000s. It was great to watch and the soundtrack for it was awesome. Bob wanted to stay in his Super life for a long time but reality and life caught up and things shifted. Helen wanted Bob yet craved for some manner of stability to adjust to their new lives. There was a clear contrast in their ideals but ultimately their lives will never be anything but Superhero focused.
I'd actually argue that the film was more in support of mediocrity or, more accurately, highlights the rejection of the mundane and the normal to be a bad thing. This can be seen, for example, by Dash choosing to end up second but being fully content even though he severely limits himself and is further supported by the sequel where Bob has to go through the journey of having to embrace the domestic life in the same way that Helen did.
i loved the incredibles, though i would like to point out, that i honestly think that Syndrome is actually a Super.. he has super intelligence.. he invented jet boots at what? - like 10? and as an teen/adult he created tech that rivals and even surpasses Superpowers.. however because it is not a visible type of super like: super strength, speed, elasticity or invisibility etc. etc. it goes mostly unnoticed..
This Super Hero experiencing the mundane reminds me a lot of My Hero Academia. Where the maid root of the problem is the society. Why should we limit our capabilities just becaue our society says so.
Yes! A video I can comment on! I've always loved watching the Incredibles. Ever since I was a kid watching it on blue ray at the back of my Dad's car on family vacations. Personally, I've never thought about this viewpoint when watching the film, a both the duality of Mediocrity vs Exceptional of being a superhero. Typically most superhero movies deal with the persona of the hero vs the normal with a single protagonist. But to see it with a family like the Parr's it new and amazing because you can understand both sides of the argument. Good work, Sage!
The incredibles has always been probably my favorite Pixar movie ever, for that theme of suppressed excellence vs mediocrity. The internal struggles of dash and bob. Dash run on the water do you remember that? This breakdown is probably the best one I’ve seen, great job Sage! Crazy depth for a “kids movie” - it’s not even close to being a kids movie
Yup this Analysis is similar to the Mutants in X Men. It's so sad to really think about this. I know it is important but can you imagine the people who think these way. Being Different is bad, not having fair footing is bad, and only those with Money has Power, just because it is in modern times.
When I was a kid, I thought Mr. Incredible had a point. Then i grew up, and realized he was never a hero to help people. He was a hero to be loved by people, like a jock whos in the sport because it makes him popular.
I completely agree, but what makes MR incredible still lovable to everyone, is that while this is the case, he still also does this because he genuinely enjoys doing what he thinks is the right thing as well. He just also enjoy the perks of the fame and recognition as well. When things go badly in the film and he has lost what seems to be everything, for example when he has the opportunity to kill Mirage in front of Syndrome, and towards the end when he is trying to stop the robot, when knowing the risk of his family dying is for no recognition, except to do whats right against evil, thats what makes him still a true hero. And I love that depth that he gets throughout the film. Honestly, as an adult today, still in my top 5 favorite films ever, Incredibles is always up there with films like Gladiator and Bladerunner etc because Disney pixar films, were films made were made, that kids can enjoy. Now a days, films are made for kids first and that leaves little depth for kids to learn lessons from. An INCREDIBLE film forever. 🥳
Ehh isn't this a bit of a stretch? Mr. Incredible voluntarily risked his life countless times, putting himself in harms way even when his super strength may not have kept him alive, like when he jumped on Buddy's back without hesitation to remove the sticky bomb, at the cost of letting Bomb Voyage run away Sure, fame was a part of the package, and maybe doing the right thing was not as much a priority for him as it should have been, but I think he loved the thrill and the glory of the game itself more than the fame it brought, like a handicapped ex soccer star

Great video! Loved the movie! What I find potentially dangerous about this ideaology is it's vagueness. Mediocrity and Exceptionality are vague concepts. I fear that it is too easily applied by those who simply wish or require feeling superior in order to continue their ways of life. Sure, in a movie these supers put their lives at risk and save the world from dangers we can all tangibly see. But in reality, many of the "Incredibles" do not face such foes, nor do they provide any true good for the world. Imagine if these supers used their powers for "mundane" things, like feeding the starving or housing the homeless. Ending genocides. They might actually look Super for once.

Thr Incredibles is the best Fantastic Four film we've ever seen is a statement i heard but cannot agree with enough. The powerset of the Incredibles mimics the Fantastic four almost to a tee just kinda shuffle whom gets which power. Mr Incredible gets The Things super strength. Elasta Girl gets Mr. Fantastic's streachyness. Violet gets Sue Storms invisibly and forcefields. Dash isnt a one to one with Johnny Strom but has the cocky and competitive nature of him and his powers do enable him to mimic alot of The Human Torches abilities. Then of course we have Syndrome who mimics Dr. DOOM. Syndrome is the ruler of his own "country" has dozens of robots and henchmen. A vendetta agaist the patriarch of the family (Bob Parr). Syndrome is brilliant but egotistical. Id say the only real difference is that Syndrome acts a bit more immature and like a "geek" than Dr. DOOM who mascarades as a clandestine Dictator "who refers to himself in the 3rd person".
Actually Bob is more right about society celebrating mediocracy over exceptional talent by dumbing downing society to so no child is left behind. Celebrating moving from one room or one grade to another is hardly an ‘achievement’. Men are natural competitive so they know what a real achievement is when it means it. Syndrome’s resentment does represent a lot of the problems with modern day comic book bad writing characters by emasculating the male characters to elevate the female character to check a DEI box because their self insert character does not represent the qualities of a real hero. Similar with Feminists who want the glory of being a man, but never the responsibility and accountability that comes with the package. “Great Power comes great Responsibility!”

That's why I want to become a published author to share my stories with the world and use my royalties to help others
@@iantophernicus6042 I do agree with you, but there are people who are more gifted than others. Like basketball players for example.
Helen: “Everone's special, Dash.”
Dash: “Which is another way of saying no one is.”
Syndrome: “Everyone can be super. And if everyone's super...no one will be.”
*COINCIDENCE, I THINK NOT!*

Don't Burn-E me!
THIS LITTLE RAT IS GUILTY!!
The family dynamic, the villain and satire is just amazing.
incredibles/syndrome: Sage's Rain you got me monologuing
One thing about it I think Bob had a harder time adjusting to a normal life mostly cause of how it happened and felt like he was forced to instead of coming down on his own witch could have spured it making hin gorify the glory days.

Still one of the best Disney/Pixar films 20 years later!
Can you also talk about monsters university? The movie tells a message about the harsh reality that you can’t always fulfill your childhood dreams which makes it one of the best and most realistic Pixar films. Another idea would be to talk about the movie up because that’s also one of the most beautiful Pixar movies ever made.
To this day I consider The Incredibles to be one of if not the GREATEST superhero movie of all time. Marvel and DC simply can not compare.
I hear LA Noire- rainy mood in the background I didn’t know Sage was cultured like that
You have a way to put into words what touches me, especially in a story.
Forever saying Pixar pre-Disney era was the the BEST 👌
thanks for your analysis. Take care! ❤
Maaaaan watching this movie as an almost 30-year-old hits VERY differently than it did watching it as a kid. Heart's out to the whatever guy(s) having a midlife crisis and a struggling marriage who made it.
„When everyone is super, then no one will be.“
I question that belief and say
„When everyone is super, then the superness is not the specialness but the way in which you are super is then in the focus of specialness.“
So it is a Transformation in consciousness.
Exactly! I 2nd this
I hope if we ever get incredibles 3 that it's about the Parents retiring and the kids trying to find replacements but they all come to realize that they're fine as a team of three or even as independent supers and the parents can learn to finally relax and leave the world to their children or the next generation or whatever. Idk I just want one more movie before the voice actors retire but considering the gap between the two we have idk
The merging is the person who lifts up others alongside themselves. At least in my opinion.
15:00 dashes laugh when he hits the water is gold
One of my favorite scenes is when Helen writes off Syndrome’s men as nothing more than faceless goons who need to be put down. Men with no sense of morality who aren’t conflicted about having to shoot children.
She doesn’t care for who they are and why they might be swayed by Syndrome’s technology.
It reminds me of Luke believing that Vader (the child killer) can be redeemed, but happily slaughters the everyday imperials working a 9-5 government job.
Ikr, Luke chooses to think his father can be redeem, despite the fact that Vader kills people good or bad almost 24/7.
I guess it's one of the reason why I like Batman and Superman, they actually commit to their belief that everyone can be redeemed.
Amazing! As always this is such an amazing take on a classic. Thank you so much for your insights.
I always love your ending monologues. Always learn something new! Never change Sage!
Sacrificing freedom for security will cause you to have neither
@@osets2117 definitely untrue and only parroted by people who don’t take the time to think about the extremes. Like a lot of other things, you have to strike a balance
@@TriggeringOpinionsandFacts spoken like every fascist regime ever. The person who said that was far smarter than you or I. His name was Benjamin Franklin.
@osets2117 I guess it shouldn't be security, but just making sure the people with powers don't grow up in environments that turn them into callous individuals.
That being said the institution of racism in America and even unfair institutions around the world wouldn't make fair individuals like the heroes in the incredible.

This is absolutely my favorite movie, and I love hearing you opine on it. Thank you for brightening my day!
I wish we could get some kamen rider or any toku shows deep dive or character analysis because that would be pretty chill
Good work, Sage!
i was not expecting a discussion on Nietzsche’s genealogy of morals, but it worked so well
The incredibles has always been probably my favorite Pixar movie ever, for that theme of suppressed excellence vs mediocrity. The internal struggles of dash and bob. Dash run on the water do you remember that?
This breakdown is probably the best one I’ve seen, great job Sage! Crazy depth for a “kids movie” - it’s not even close to being a kids movie

Mr. Incredible voluntarily risked his life countless times, putting himself in harms way even when his super strength may not have kept him alive, like when he jumped on Buddy's back without hesitation to remove the sticky bomb, at the cost of letting Bomb Voyage run away
Sure, fame was a part of the package, and maybe doing the right thing was not as much a priority for him as it should have been, but I think he loved the thrill and the glory of the game itself more than the fame it brought, like a handicapped ex soccer star

Okay sir listen imma need you to update the Spotify page cause my sleep playlist is needing some new bits

You are technically right that it would solve all the problems in the movie we all know, but I believe that given the context of bad apples & lack of accountability in both the force & in the public coupled with victim mentality while facing a superhuman cop would create a whole new set of problems & a completely different movie
