Cessna Citation Mustang Touch and Go Landing Columbia MO

- Flying the Cessna Citation Mustang single pilot at the Columbia Regional Airport (COU) in central Missouri. I needed to get a couple of quick takeoff and landings to meet the requirements for 3 landings in 90 days to fly as Pilot in Command (PIC). So I did the pattern a couple of times with a touch and go. The video has a good view of the cockpit and live ATC audio of the Tower and pilot radio communications.
video taken with a GoPro Hero 3+

thanks for the no music, no arrogance video!. Truly enjoyed it
Music means arrogance back in 2014?
Haha these laps through the pattern costed more than I burn in a Cessna 172 flying down south from Minnesota for vacation!
Looking very nice....Positive climb out of that airport...Nice..
Excellent job and confidence of the aircraft you are handling
Always enjoy these vids. Thanks for making them.
thanks.
Man that looks so freaking fun love it
First circuit on the GO u hesitate raising the gear at first for a second then flaps then gear up just curious what that was?
Hi Captain. I enjoyed watching the video. I especially liked the camera being behind you so that I could see everything that you had to do while you were flying.
Thanks.
You're doing so nice control!
Just like TV game!
Thanks.
That thing looks like a hot rod! Very well performing airplane!
This Mustang looks like a Hot Rod! You did a great job!
Thanks.
this is amazing
Very nice Mustang Cap...:-)
wow, what a gorgeous video!
Charles B Thanks Charles.
you are a tuff guy, thanks for this grate video. saludos desde mex.
thanks for watching MX
THANK YOU
Nice pattern work Sir
thanks.
Awesome!!
Those are some good, FAST circuits there! Turning crosswind you look like a fighter jet, what speed to you usually go when you are on mid-downwind may I ask?
Some tight circuits.
I noticed and liked how you held your climb to build up speed. So many want to play Top-gun and that is how they get in trouble with an engine failure . Malcolm
I'm a firm believer in "fly like you train and train like you fly"
I agree 100%. I had a mixed training of pilots on the dole during the air recession in the UK and former Commercial Captains Female. My key words I always remember when things go wrong are "Fly the plane stupid" as I have been in situations that are normally experienced by 4 pilots. With a panicked ATC in the tower and a lost bigginer pilot above the clouds and asked to be the decoy to get the lost trainer out of the sky one does what was asked but flies the plane out through the clouds into a performance landing as requested. BUT fly the plane and don't be distracted and keep yourself safe.
I did not look around when the girl doing her first T+G on her own spotted the fuselage of my red and white plane and prayed I would beat her out of the sky and she did not ram me! The female controller requested releif for the next two days. I bought her a drink and dinner. The controller felt bad that she had used me as a target and only really realized it when the young pilot said she saw my plane what was almost about to happen. 100 people listened to the drama unfolding in the sky they could not see.

Another great video. Thanks for posting. What is the control you grab on the far right side of the throttle quadrant? Looks like those engines on the aircraft spool up pretty quickly.
thanks, that's for the flaps.
Verry nice
Thanks.
HOLA MI CAP. QUE BONITO VIDEO DE LO MEJOR GRACIAS Y UN SALUDO.
Thanks Commander.
Nice
awesome
Felixab B Thanks.
Flying a C510 is on my bucket list. Know of anyone selling a few laps like this!!??
Yank and bank. Smooth.
EXCELLET
How is it that the external sound (engine and air sound outside the mic) is still there if you plugged into the goPro?
Interesting...you were only cleared to land, not for the touch and go. Glad nothing happened!
Good Afternoon Captain. To stay somewhere near the airport, what speed and bank angle do you use for a tight pattern like this. You sure make it look easy.
The Mustang can really slow down in the pattern, It's been a long time but, I think I was only doing 125-130 kts. Only a 30 degree bank.
It's like a 172, with a couple jet engines strapped onto the fuselage :)
C Carr There's a lot of truth to that.
C Carr Agree, Cept, when the Fuel Bill comes, YIKES!!!!!!! Thanks,, Jack
Thanks, 34 years with a Single, and a Twin, And The economy Took a Nose Dive,,,, Sorry 4 typing, Have a full cast On r Paw,,,, Jack.... Safe Flying!
I have no idea how to fly a jet but in the landing and touch and go practice does it still just come down to throttle rudders and stick control ? Flaps of coarse . . And I’m sure staying in front of everything as well . Just curious
Did you keep the pattern at 1,000' AGL, or did you climb a little higher because of the fact you were a jet? By the way, enjoy all of your videos!
+Josh McCorquodale Thanks for watching Josh. The normal traffic pattern altitude for aircraft over 12,500 lbs or turbine powered is 1,500'. The mustang is under that weight but, since its a turbojet I was at 1,500 agl.
What's the purpose of this exercise?

I used to do touch and goes on DC-3's after an inspection..Lots of work...this is much better deal..
Never flown a Dc-3 but, that's one of those airplanes I'd like to fly at least once.

--They look nice on the ground, but they feel like an old truck without power steering..and slow..160 mph at say 33MP and 2k rpm normal cruise..no big deal..Jets are better..
Question. Is it ok to advance the throttle that quickly from idle when doing touch and goes in a jet? I mean because usually, as you know, you want to stabilize the engines first during a normal take off so I am wondering if for a touch and go it does not matter and you just want to apply full power as quickly as possible. Thanks! And great video!
Normally that would be true. But, the Mustang engines are controlled by the FADEC's (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) units. Instead of me moving the throttles to pull a cable linked to the Fuel management unit to vary fuel flow to the engines, all I'm doing is moving the throttles into the takeoff detent, which sends a signal to the FADEC's that I want full takeoff power. The FADEC's then look at all the inputs it's receiving and set the schedule for engine acceleration and takeoff power limits. After takeoff, I pull the throttles back to the climb detent and then for cruise there is a cruise detent. It's the magic of computers.
captmoonbeam I see. I have flown FADEC's before actually, but I mean every airliner and modern jet has FADEC so is it now normal during a take off to just fully advance the throttle without the stabilizing of the engines first? Thanks.
Kaipeternicolas I couldn't say what's normal for other aircraft with FADEC's. I can say that for this aircraft there's nothing in the manual or checklist that precludes it and the guy that trained me for my check ride wanted me to just push the throttles up to the detent. Normally when I've got passengers on board I come up more slowly. But on this day, especially for the touch and go I was empty and eating up runway.
captmoonbeam Ok understood. Thanks again! Happy Landings.
Is that your own private jet?....If i was loaded i would own a jet just to fly around. Great video and top notch flying!!!
thanks. No. It's not mine. I'm just the driver.
I just watched your other videos. Still quite the career! What's your favorite bird? Also so on another video someone asking about not going commercial pilot( Large airlines) I always thought private jet pilots made more than regular airline pilots. Also seems to be more fun to fly smaller jets than the big birds
It is fun. My favorite to fly is the Citation M2. It's a very nice flying airplane. handles well and easy to fly.

Way cool think i found a new channel lol
thanks.
why you do that?
does a touch and go landing get considered as a full cycle?..thanks.
+mrabrasive51 No and this actually puts very little time on the airplane.
Both times once you took off and turned left there was a ding noise.... what is that?
It's the altitude alert. I set the pattern altitude in the alerter as a reminder.
CAPTAIN You must 3 touch Android go because You have 90 days no fly in this case citation Mustang ?
If he had one landing then he needed only two more.
Hey Jim love your vids. Can you please explain what your left thumb is operating on the yoke. It's pretty busy while you are doing these circuits.
I'm working the electric trim. With all the changes in the pattern I'm constantly trimming to reduce the control pressure.
Much appreciated. I see you like SteveO's vids as well. Me too.
Why don’t you keep that uniform anymore!
Where are you from? you around the mid missouri area? Only reason I ask is because I am from KCOU
I'm from the Saint Louis area but, I used to do a lot of work out of COU.
Well if you ever need someone for your right seat, I'd love to help out.
Thanks Nick. I'll keep that in mind.
!Me preguntaba!....Y donde esta el Co-piloto? ...Ya entendí que es un examen que esta tomando para una nueva certificación......
Antonio Barrera Hi Antonio. I have a single pilot type in the Citation Mustang. Therefore the presence of a copilot is not required.
Gracias...
When I win the lottery I will buy one, lol
Are touch and go landings hard
+Canaan Haben Not any more than a normal landing.
Why the uniform?
It was a company policy.
what is your landing speed? thanks!
I think it was about 95 kts.
Just curious if you had a choice between flying a Hondajet or the Cessna M2 which one would you pick that is to be your daily work plane not being the owner just flying for a company that let's say has both jets in their inventory and they gave you the choice of which one you want to fly daily?? Just curious!
thanks!
sir plz teel me any good pilot training center name.. plzz help me.. sir hm aviation piolt training center is true training center..plz help me sir..
Hi Subhanker. It's been 30 years since I did primary training so I'm not familiar with any primary flight training schools training students today. Maybe some one here who has recently attended one can comment on the school they went to.
Don't you use anything like a checklist?
Yes, I had a laminate simplified checklist sitting on the right seat.
Ill Give Va a A++++++++++ Or 11 Thumbs Up,,,LOL:)
Wow! it's noisy.
Cessna your using "Mustang" I cant believe your using that. Actually I think it sucks, how dare you use that name. For that alone I don't give a damn about this aircraft. I remember the fight Cessna had when the "Clipper" was released, we accepted that but not Mustang. Very disappointed with you Cessna.
