I have loooked to buy this model in Elgiganten, but finally bought another Lenovo model - Slim 7 Carbon 14" with Oled. But definitly Pro X was my favorite as well. But I think I don't need so powerfull laptop like 12500h proc. Good job! 👍🏼
I got the I5 with rtx 3050. Battery life is poor. I got 7h of youtube playback. If you can, go AMD. If you need thunderbolt, an I7 P processor is not too far off an i5 H. Something like 20% less performance. But battery life will be better and IGPU will be too.
It's funny, I have the same exact laptops as you (this one and MBP14) and my pros/cons were almost the complete opposite of yours! This was quite an interesting video for me to watch as it made me realize quite how subjective these things really are! For example, I thought the Slim 7i Pro X trackpad was very bad (huge dead zone at the top, and not very precise compared to MacBook), whereas I thought the keyboard is excellent (great key travel, satisfying press, etc). I also found the speakers to be quite bad, though I'm spoiled by the MacBook Pro 14. I've also had no issues using it with my thunderbolt 4 dock (CalDigit TS4), but I don't use an eGPU. Anyway, thank you for the video and sharing your perspectives!
A couple of other nits about the laptop in case it helps others: 1) the power button is on the side, which is extremely annoying because I like to sit with the laptop between my legs and I accidentally turn it off sometimes. Quite annoying, no idea why they wouldn't just put it on the top like everyone else. 2) i really hate the coloring of the keyboard, especially with the backlight. it's white-on-white, and the backlighting on the keys is very wide, so the outlines of the keys glow more than the actual letters do 3) the lid of the laptop can be opened with 1 finger, but i wish there was a little indent in the center to make it easier to get your finger inside, like the MacBooks do. Instead, there's almost an inverse indent, to make space for the Windows Hello IR camera and stuff. Not a huge deal, but a minor annoyance until I got used to it. 4) the battery life is quite poor on my laptop, though I have the i7 with an RTX 3050, so that's a bit more understandable. still, coming from an M1 Pro macbook, it's a big step down.
Super interesting! Comparing strictly with the MBP14 is hard - I think you have to compare to other Windows laptops to have a balanced perspective. Thanks for all the input! :)
I got the laptop too. I got the I5 + 3050 version of it. My only complain is the battery life on light tasks. It is very poor. I got a zenbook with a 12 gen i5 P version and it last for 10 hours watching youtube videos. This one go down to around 7. Both with mid brightness and screens set at 60hz. I know the H CPU and the dGPU suck up more juice, even though the dGPU is deactivated on light tasks. But it's 30% less battery. Lenovo should throttle the CPU more when it's not used.
Have you tried to set the max CPU usage at 50% or so? You can find it in the „Energy Settings“ - Energy Mode - Advanced settings (not sure how it is called in English). There you can set a maximum CPU usage in battery mode. Maybe this helps. I had this laptop too but wasn’t satisfied with the fan noise. When I watched a UA-cam video they turned on every few minutes …
Hi, watched your Yoga videos, useful info is there, thanks, wanna buy one with Tiger Lake because it supports AVX512 and I want to write some Quicksort using it. Please consider running "Precise Decompression MIPS benchmark" at OCN forum, will gladly embed your video in the thread, people (myself included) will be able to see how fast in real MIPS this machine is.
Does the keys have a low, medium or high actuation force? I just got my Lenovo yoga 7i gen 7 and I find the keys are a bit too hard to actuate compared to my surface pro keyboard, Dell XPS 15 or my old macbook air 2015. The slim 7 pro X was already on my list but more and more I think of getting it instead of the yoga 7i since I do some 3D modeling (not hardcore though).
I think they have low to medium actuation force. I also have a hard time with higher actuation force but none of the laptops I tried from Lenovo I think have it. Maybe this is a matter of definition and personal preference too.
@@w2best yes it is 100% a matter of personal preference, I am sure someone else wouldn’t find my keys to have a high actuation force. But I am dealing with wrist pain so I am far more sensitive to it :P that’s why I hunt down the beast keyboard possible (for when I am away from my ergonomic keyboard at home). Anyway thanks for your answer!! I will be watching your review!
I would have one last question ! If you still have the Lenovo Yoga 7i, do you find one of the two have keys that require less force to press ? I am on the fence of ordering one of the two for Black Friday, and this is a determining factor for me (because of wrist pain) and I might choose the one with softer keys.
What dock are you using? I got a Cal Digit USB-C dock (since I have the AMD version, I don't have Thunderbolt), and it is quirky. I got the dock as a relatively inexpensive stopgap as later I want to get one of the Dell monitors that have all the connectivity/charging built in. I'm hoping that will be a better experience.
Hi, im very interested on this Laptop. I must know, do this laptop work fully with the Thinkpad Universal Thunderbolt 4 Dock (40B00...)? I have a setup with 2x 32" 4K and 2x FHD Monitors. I want to let the nb display close and start the notebook with the buttom in the dock. In this excel list, this TB4 dock is not listed in the Yoga sheet... sry.. .for this question, but the thinkpad nb optic is the same last 10 years and i dont wont to use this models :-)
I have no option to test it, but I can say with my Belkin thunderbolt dock it didn't work great. I don't know whether it would work with the thinkpad one.
@@w2best Hi, now i can anser you, this Dock works great with the 7i ProX. Only the Power Button doesn´t work, but all other things. Bevor i have test a Lenovo Legion, but there are many problems with that dock (Thinkpad Univeral Thunderbolt 4 Dock). For my Setup: Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i ProX with i7 / 32GB DDR5 6000 plugged one USB C to the Dock (include power for the Yoga). The Lenovo Montior runs with 120Hz. Is your Yoga Slim 7 ProX silent all the time when watching UA-cam videos? My unit turned on the fans every 3-4 minutes even when the laptop was unplugged (1080p videos) and that was annoying because the fans were quite noticeable.
@@greatbritain1406 Yes, but of course you can't play a game in 165 fps... I played overwatch 2 on the external monitor and got 60fps though, even on battery power.
I just got mine however it's extremely sluggish it takes 3mins to boot. When unplugged its 30 secs to load google chrome or any other application, when plugged it get faster but the restart takes 2mins. Did I receive a defective model
I have yoga slim 7 pro 16 and fans are always working, could you please check if in your model it is fixed? For keyboard had same experience but get used to it very fast, so dont warry a lot. And what about screen? Is it 500 nits?
Good to hear that the laptop is silent when consuming media.
Yes, that is usually important for people.

A comparison to the old version of the yoga slim 7(i) pro would be very interesting, especially battery life. Keep up the good work!
Yes, please. Would also love to see a size and thickness comparision.
