I have the AMD version (as I commented in your unboxing also). A few comments after having it for a couple of months: - I haven't had an issue at all with Hello recognizing me, but it is slow to get to the desktop after recognizing - The keys on the AMD version don't seem glossy at all, have not had an issue there. I don't understand your comment about the keys being spread out: they are on standard 19mm center-to-center, exact same as any full-size keyboard. - The dark gray finish of the metal on the AMD one is really nice - feels very good to the touch, and it barely picks up fingerprints at all. - Battery life I get 6-7 hours when Windows is set to Balanced Mode, and Vantage is set to Intellicool. 1-2 hrs longer if on Battery Saver - I rarely hear the fans come on, and when they do it's typically at a low speed and almost inaudible, even when doing something like using CaptureOne Pro - I did some further investigation of the issue I mentioned in my earlier comment where it would get very get hot after going to sleep when plugged into a Cal Digit USB-C dock and into my ultrawide HP monitor (no TB since AMD). The culprit was the USB-C cable connecting the monitor back to the dock (as I had a couple of devices plugged into the USB-A pass-thru ports on the monitor) - there seemed to be some sort of feedback loop going on in this set-up that was making it get hot. I redid the cable set-up and removed that connection, and so far it's been nice and cool.
Thanks for the input! I guess the keyboard is personal, but for me there's a huge difference between this keyboard and the one on the macbook pro, or even previous lenovos. I keep hitting the wrong keys, something that never happen with other laptops. My guess is that there's a slight difference in key placement and more space in between the keys.
I also bought the Yoga Slim 7 ProX but the Intel version (12500H) with Iris xe. My problem is that there are no „silent fan modes“. The fan is either off (Office, Spotify, Web - where it just kicks in from time to time and makes noise) or loud. There is no very silent mode in between you’d expect for low demanding tasks. Even when I turn it on the fan gets loud for 1 minute. And that really sucks. Don’t you have the same problem? I had an Acer before and there the lowest fan mode was so quiet that you could barely hear it spinning.
It was the only one that was available to buy here. Also need that HDMI port for sure. Almost always completely silent though. Which is not so common. :)
@@w2best Actually, I don't quite understand Lenovo (like many others). They put the exact same ports on their Intel/AMD 2 in 1 models (including TB) but not here 🤔. Even more surprising, on the Intel 2 in 1 version (Yoga 7i Gen 7), you don't have the 32 GB RAM option🤨. My ideal product should be a 2 in 1 with an OLED mat screen... Because I very much like working on my desk with my Dell XPS 2 in 1 in tent mode as a second monitor + external keyboard without having the obligation to always turn my head 🤯(but my Dell works with only one fan... they can't replace it and they decided to stop this design in 2022 😡). Why Lenovo no onyx grey Yoga 2 in 1 with Intel 12th gen H series??? So many things I don't understand🥱
@@w2best I bought it 😊 Quite good, 14.5 inch is perfect, I also like the keyboard but I have one problem with it: the fan noise! It seems that there are only two fan levels - off and loud … when I turn on the laptop the fan kicks in and runs 1 minute or so. Not in a silent mode but already loud. In web browsing and office it is most of the time completely silent (fan off) but from time to time the fan kicks in and then it’s loud and not silent like you would the fan expect there. I had an Acer before and there the fan also had a „quiet mode“ for such low demanding tasks where you could barely hear it and only went loud while exporting a video. The Lenovo’s fan is always loud when it spins ☹️
@@patrick.771 ah, it's strange you had such different experience on when the fan kicks in. I was even running benchmarks without the fan running... Have never heard it when browsing.
Thanks for the great detailed review ! I am looking to buy the AMD version and I think even if the battery life is poor, it's really really hard to beat for the price ! I thought at first that the amd version would have better battery life, but another UA-camr compared the two and the difference is minimal. It's really unfortunate because it's almost the perfect Windows laptop considering the price.
I have usually had better battery life on AMD versions, but I also saw that it didn't differ that much. Probably this is what means I will stick to the Macbook Pro. If the battery life felt safer I could have switched.
@@w2best The Ryzen 7 6800U outperforms the Intel P series and isn’t too far short of HS/35W levels of power. The iGPU performance is class leading however so it could be a much better choice for many Ultrabook buyers who don’t really need 45W performance (or the roaring fans that go with that) but would really appreciate the far superior battery life as well as the awesome gaming performance.
Depending on how he tested the battery life, the test might be flawed. No laptop is better than the other during load. There is no magic involved. if the CPU uses 30w constantly, it will last the same. AMD, intel or apple, all the same. Where AMD shines is on low power usage. Same with apple. Doing small daily tasks with minimal power use.
I got the same laptop with the same processor but with an RTX 3050. I aquies everythin said in this video. But since i got a dGPU in it, i can game more confortably. But beware, with a GPU, the 70w cooling solution is overwhelmed. Lenovo finetuned everything to be on the bleeding edge. I got the laptop during last summer in the south of france. Let me tell you, during gaming, fans are overworking and the chassis is burning hot if you live in a hot climate. It works, but use it docked and make sure the fan intake is cleared. Fans at full speed make no sound at all, you only hear loud wind but no whining or any click from a motor. Now, in winter, with a 20c embient temp, the chassis is hot but fine to the touch. This laptop is almost perfect, my only grief is the battery life. If you can, get an AMD version.
I have purchased the exact same PC a week ago. I was sceptical about the fan noise level, but I find it to be really good. In the low power mode the fans only turn on for some seconds at start up, otherwise they are totally quiet. When doing intensive tasks in high power mode the fans are loud, but not unacceptable. The screen is really nice, as well as the brightness. The only thing I find somewhat bad are the loud speakers. I have had several Macbooks, and I simply don’t understand how a Macbook can have really good sound and all the Windows notebooks have very tinny sounds. This Lenovo is a little bit better than others, but there is no comparison to a Macbook.
On the AIDA64 screen, it shows the CPU frequency as 3200, not the RAM speed. Also the numerical bit of LPDDR5-6000 refers to megatransfers per second (MT/s), the MHz value is always half of the MT/s.
Even though I use a MacBook Pro, I am pretty impressed by this laptop. I used Lenovo desktop earlier and even a Lenovo smartphone. They were pretty decent.
Many thanks for a splendid review!!! I think you may have saved my skin, as I was about to buy this laptop until I saw your comments about the Monitor connection via Thunderbolt/docking station - Stort tack! The main use of my future laptop will be with an ultrawide monitor, so it appears as though this could be a deal breaker.. Would you have any other solutions or similar great-value laptops where monitor connection via Thunderbolt/docking station wouldn't have this issue?
I used it with multiple USB c monitors with no issues but for some reason thunderbolt lags. I loved the other Lenovo laptops for that use case. Also MacBook pros are wonderful for that.
Can you tell me your opinion on the 7 Pro vs 7 Pro X? I have been planning to buy a laptop for long now, but haven't found much options that I genuinely liked. I really love the 7 Pro X but it isn't available in my country and not sure when or if it will even come here. The 7 Pro came into stores recently, so thinking of picking it up maybe. The lack of a dedicated graphics card, poor camera and down firing speakers is something that I'm concerned with. Is the 7 Pro X a worthy laptop to wait for?
