Why Andrew Marc David is killing it in the PC review space. 1) Consistent rate of new reviews. 2) Thoroughness of reviews. 3) Engaging with his viewers (something a lot of tech companies could learn from). 4) Very good production values in his video.

***UPDATE*** I re-ran the Geekbench 5 test and got better results after updates. Single Core 1,559 and Multi-Core 9062. A bit better but I would like to see it a little higher.I originally had it set to Extreme Performance mode but this time I changed it to Intelligent Cooling Mode with auto transition to Extreme Performance enabled.

I bought this laptop last week. The blue version with Intel i7 12700H and GeForce RTX 3050, with matte display-non touch, HDMI port and only one USB-A port on the right side. Im usually very picky but this laptop gives me very good feeling in hands since it has non sharp edges. It looks also very good, better than MacBook 13 pro in my opinion, which I also have. The laptop is very quiet, most of the time I dont hear ventilation at all and when I do It do not disturb me, even when Im plugged in and charging, but Im doing mainly basic tasks like browsing web, watching TV through USB TV tuner, youtube, etc. When gaming fans start to spin more, but still quieter than most other laptops and there is no annoying noise or frequency which is more important for me. The laptop has an "Advanced Optimus" which means that you can switch between graphics in NVIDIA control panel and you can use only discrete graphics card (RTX 3050) without restarting the system ("mux switch on steroids") - I found this very handy, because when I bypass the integrated graphics I can play some older games like Diablo II and others which are not 100% compatible with PC when you let PC decide which graphics to use by itself. Speakers are OK for a laptop, you can even improve the sound by opening lenovo vintage and allow dolby audio, but still my MacBook 13 pro has more base and is better for watching content. So I use with my Lenovo external speaker anyway, its much better for watching movies and so on ( I use "Soundcore Motion +" connected via 3,5 jack), but definatelly you can watch content without external speakers and that is a plus. So if you dont mind to have only 14,5 inch screen I think you are gonna love this machine :)

Love the fast RAM as well as the fast SSD. 3K bright 120Hz display, 16:10 screen ratio, 1080p camera with good quality, great internal mic quality and good Harman Kardon speakers. I also appreciate that you can remove the Wi-Fi 6 card and substitute it for the Wi-Fi 6e if you so choose. Lenovo doesn't usually disappoint and the Yoga Slim 7 Pro X (2022) is no exception. Brilliant review once again Andrew!!! 👍😁

Great review as always and appreciate you bringing the reviews of these latest reviews to us. Now regarding the USB4 support on this device, let me clarify this. For USB4 to be supported manufacturers need to first implement that physically in their devices and then only the proper Firmware and chipset driver can enable that. This is same as Thunderbolt which can't be enabled in any Intel laptops with Type-C port, despite the Processor supporting it, unless physically implemented. Sadly, this model doesn't have USB4 ports implemented over the Type-C port and can't be enabled via Chipset driver and Firmware update. Lenovo Psref actually documented pretty clearly which of their AMD Zen3+ Laptops have USB4 and which don't. Devices like 2022 Asus G14 and G15, Rog Flow X13, some of the VivoBook Pro AMD 6000 models have the physical USB4 port but it was working as USB 3.2 Gen 2 mode due to lack of firmware and chipset driver support. AMD has already released the USB4 chipset drivers and when Asus will release the BIOS based on that, only those devices will be enabled for USB4. For Lenovo, currently ThinkPad Z13 and Z16, T14s, X13 and ThinkBook 13s with Ryzen 6000 series SOC, coming with USB4 implemented and the firmware on those devices, support it out of the box. I am using the ThinkBook 13s with 6800U/16GB LPDDR5/512GB Gen 4 SSD and it is working perfectly with my Caldigit Thunderbolt 3 dock.

That's crazy given its small size, and it's a major plus that it doesn't have the ugly gamer look as most other laptops with capable graphics. Regarding keyboard and touchpad, Im coming from a Surface Book which arguably has the highest quality Windows touchpad + keyboard, and it isn't 100% there, but very close which I didn't expect. None of the other brands I tried in the store came even close to the Mac or Surface.

Thank you for your business-like review. It’s Christmas 2023…. a year after your review. This laptop is now on offer from Lenovo at a 42% reduction: £800 in the UK.. with Ryzen 7 6800HS…. 32Gb RAM… 1Tb SSD. Very tempting.

    • @mistergeorgie
      @mistergeorgie 6 місяців тому

@@jasmansangha487 I haven’t bought it. The specs are very tempting. Three or four things hold me back: 1) the screen size; I’m wanting to make educational videos .. and I think a 16in screen would probably be a lot better; 2) Just Josh gives two reviews of this: the first was pretty negative; the second was at best lukewarm; I don’t think Josh is always good-spirited in his reviews (although I have no doubt he’s free from bias); nonetheless, his reviews have dampened down my interest; 3) I have two Lenovo laptops.. one is an IdeaPad Flex 5 .. it’s 4 years old… and the keyboard is misbehaving periodically; this dampens down my enthusiasm; 4) on the Lenovo website, there are a couple of 1 star reviews… Again, this dampens down enthusiasm.
I don’t know how significant is the quality of the CPU and the generation of the graphics card (3050 compared to the 4xxx generation - is the 4xxx generation a big step up?). The 32Gb DDR5 looks appealing. The whole package looks appealing. If I were younger and had more money, I would give it a shot (I still might!!).
      But to date…. I’m looking at alternatives….
ALL the user reviews (except the 1 star reviews) say that it’s more than capable of handling everyday work. Even Just Josh in his negative review concedes this. The specs say that it is way beyond capable of handling everyday work. The specs qualify it for being at a modest level (or more?) as a gaming laptop or a portable workhorse for creatives.

From what lenovo said, there is an automatic refresh rate limiter. It will lower the refresh rate of the monitor depending on the use. This is really good.
In europe, this laptop is way cheaper on it's basic configuration but the upgrades cost a lot and EU prices become more like NA prices. For example, an I5 or R5 without GPU and 16gigs of ram cost 1190€ tax included (remove 20% and convert to $ it will look so cheap). Fully upgraded it cost 2100€ !

My Slim 7 Pro X with the i5-12500H is quite annoying when it comes to fan noise.
The fans run loud for 1-2 minutes when starting windows (when there's no reason for it because the laptop is cold).
During office work and web browsing the laptop is quiet (fans off) but they randomly kick in for 1-2 minutes (especially when watching youtube videos).
The problem is that the fans then run quite loud and not quiet like you'd expect during low demanding tasks.
My Acer Swift 3 was better because when the fans turned on they were running really quiet (except for high demanding tasks of course).
Except from that the laptop is great, only the display isn't that good in my opinion, slight dark vignetting in the corners.
Got it for only 899€ but not sure if I should keep it because of the annoying fan control.

The two main reasons for cancelling the order were: still no known delivery date after two weeks of waiting and I made a mistake when ordering. I opted for the non-glare panel on the Slim 7 X Pro but that also gives you ugly plastic bezels. The Slim 7 Pro I have now is running Linux flawlessly, but upgrading the BIOS in the future will be a pain since I completely wiped Windows. In the end, I might give this laptop to my son and place a new order for a Slim 7 X pro again.

Just one warning, if somebody buys a laptop with a MediaTek or RealTek Wi-Fi card, if it is socketed (not soldered, but all of the ones with those Wi-Fi cards I've seen are socketed), do yourself a favor and change it out for an Intel AX210. It costs about $30, but you get better and more stable Wi-Fi & Bluetooth, better Linux support for the Wi-Fi, and less erratic behavior and hangs in Windows. Because it happened to me, and when I did the swap, it was a night and day difference. Just keep that in mind.

It would be nice if they move the camera switch from the side and make it so you can then turn it on or off from the keyboard like what HP did with the Spectre. Then they would have room to put in a SD card reader. Then this port selection functionality would be even better. Still a very good PC especially what one could purchase it at Costco. I just find the whole XG Mobile to be completely impractical, since for it's price ($1.5k) I could build a PC that outperforms it. Especially if you saved $500 by getting the cheaper laptop, you could build an absolutely insane desktop for $2k.
