I think it's because he always was a "storyteller" and not a singer! Don't get me wrong, he was a fantastic singer(for me the best of all times), but I think the secret of his singing was that he told stories about his life. That's another reason why he never had problems with high notes! imo!

I heard, "You might've heard out there.", I didn't hear the "n't"... Remember, 1974 is when Rush got their first Album released. 1975 is after Neil has joined. So Rush was really just starting...Neil was not well known yet. Rush was still being mistaken for Led Zeppelin then. So the history as Scott is talking about makes sense.

Damn. Can you imagine going to a show to see Kiss at their prime, and some “little” loud Australian band called AC/DC and a “little” Canadian band called Rush are the supporting acts. I hope the kids that went to see those shows realize how blessed they were. As this looks like sometime in 1978, Rush were probably touring for their Hemispheres album, while AC/DC was touring for their Powerage album. AC/DC were just hitting their peak with Bon Scott too. What an amazing time to be rock fan.

My dad told me a story where he hitchhiked to Allentown (PA) to see AC/DC in concert around 77/78. He gets there (Ag Hall, to be exact), buys a ticket, gets inside and about 10 minutes before the show was set to start, the tour manager comes on stage and goes "Uh....Bon has a sore throat and won't be singing tonight. You can stay and see the opening band or get a full refund at the door." My response was "What did you do?". He replies "Well, we took the time to get there and paid to get in and wait so we saw the opening band." I ask, "Who was it?" He gives me a slight grin and goes "It was Rush."

The host was a rabid KISS fan, he asked (More like stated, but presented as a question.) If Gene Simmons thought it was safe to say that KISS was "The greatest band that ever was or would be". And that its members were the greatest musicians who ever lived or would live. Gene Simmons looked at him like he had lobsters crawling out of his ears and said "We're second, maybe third rate musicians but we're first-rate entertainers, we know what our fans want and we give it to them".

One had to be “ in the know” to have heard about Rush especially during the 1970’s.

Bon was the epitome of the perfect Rock Star.
He had it all, the voice, the attitude, his cool, sex
    appeal, charisma, everything.
    Phil Lynnot was another example.
Malcolm Young created the opportunity for a front man to be a God.
It's a small miracle that AC-DC found a replacement in Brian Johnson who you could say had a vocal that managed to keep the music going.
Brian never forgot the responsibility he had to play it straight and respect the boots he had to fill.
Both gifted, Brian never tried to out do the legend who was the Fit and style of Bon.

Rush tells the same story. KISS, Rush, and AC/DC all have a similar story ... their show hit so hard that headliners didn't want to follow them. So they did things like limit stage space, limit soundcheck time, limit volume, limit stage props (that would kill KISS), etc. KISS pledged not to be dicks like that. Plus, with their explosions and huge special effects, they weren't worried about being upstaged. So they took bands like Rush and AC/DC that other bands didn't want to tour with because of how good they were, and KISS wanted those bands to open. KISS was very cool to them, too.

I had a weekly show where I played every form of rock n blues, deep cuts as the radio was so NOT diversified! I’d play punk, ska, metal, hard rock all of it! If it was good I played it!Like I said no AC/DC on yet! I’m gonna brag now lol, I played the hell outta them first. And for one of the few female DJs having a rock show was cool! The professional stations used to scan all college/HS stations to see what the scene was, then they’d add popular bands. Lotta politics back then n fear of the FCC! Anyway, when Bon passed I actually cried! I dedicated an entire 4hr show, uninterrupted to AC/DC. My salute to the man! I got so many calls of thanks it was awesome. They were on Chicago rock stations by that time. Wow we had 2! In today’s terms that’s insane lol! We supplied our own albums too! I was so dedicated to opening up radio and giving exposure to how stupid all the categorizing was! I got a fast food job and spent all my $ on albums lol! Still won’t touch ketchup to this day! Anyways, music and live shows was all I did, still do! Sadly the rock clubs have dwindled...something I hope changes. After all the shows I’ve seen top 5 includes early AC/DC!
Thanks for the good words! You seem like an awesome guy!

Bon is awesome. Alot of people give KISS crap nowadays, but as AC/DC and RUSH can attest. They treated all of their opening acts very well, because they were treated badly. Look up the list of bands. Judas Priest, Cheap Trick, Slaughter, Pantera, etc.

This interviewer doesn’t know any bands outside of Australia. What about Led Zeppelin interviewer “are they the latest boy band”

  • @nvvam7597
    @nvvam7597 10 років тому +14

Bon scott is annoyed with the interviewer as indicated by his not so subtle middle finger to him. When Bon asked him if he knew of the band Rush and the interviewer said " No" you can see Bon is like who the hell is this guy. He later asks if he has heard of the band " UFO" that is Bonn's way at digging at him. At 1:10 listen closely and you will hear the interviewer quietly say " I have heard of them" right before Bonn asks if he has heard of them. The interviewer senses he is now being tested by Bonn and probably embarrassed or annoyed. Bonn's facial expression suggests he doesn't believe the interviewer knows of UFO. Bonn is most annoyed when he rhetorically asks " Tell me the bass players name rom Kiss" because he knows the interviewer has no idea. pause the tape at 1:37 and Bonn's facial expression is one of disbelief and annoyance that this guy is interviewing him. Than Bonn asks someone else who the bass player is and chuckles because he can't believe this guy is interviewing a musician. I would have walked off the set, Bonn was too laid back to do that.

That is so interesting actually. This interview is quite old right now, and I'm going to see KISS for the first time in my life this year (they come to Poland for the first time)! It feels a bit strange but I'm so glad they are still playing... could be their last tour ever. When it comes to bands, AC/DC and KISS are my real favorites, and huge inspiration on guitar playing. I could name some other bands but honestly... KISS is where it is for me... And I used to be fascinated with AC/DC a lot, now I don't listen to them much. Still, both great bands, legendary.
